I've been eating at lung wah since I was 7 years old. Hands down the best fried rice in Indiana. I live almost 150 miles away now but every time I'm in Hammond I have to stop by and get some. Their other menu items are just ok but the fried rice is awesome!

Lung Wah has some of the best Chinese in the northwest region of Indiana. The egg rolls are deliciously flavord and actually have a variety of vegetables, not just stuffed with cabbage & mystery meat. All of their entrees are prepared fresh & you know your eating real chicken & beef. The shrimp fried rice is also a favorite.

Very fond memories of going here during my childhood. Now living in Miami, I have yet to find a Chinese restaurant that can compare. They really know how to make my favorites items - the egg rolls, combination fried rice, and shrimp egg foo young.

I don't think I've had Chinese food that tasted this bad ever before. I only ate it because I was driving on a 16 Hour Rd. trip from Colorado, but I wouldn't recommend it to anybody who enjoys good Chinese food because this just is not it. Of course because it was my first time I may not know if this is a consistent issue but hey this was my first impression and I was not pleased at all my girlfriend decided to take one bite and that was about it. Frozen White Castle was much better

Got the eggroll and Gen. Taos lunch special. Good price but sad eggroll and the chicken was very bad. Meat was dry and rubbery (not sure of meat cut). It's very near, so I may have to go back and try something beefish.

My wife and I stoped based upon a recommendation of a patron at an Asian Grocery Store south of the restaurant. We ordered off the dinner menu, a dinner for two. First let me say the the waiter was most courteous and helpful; tea and soup brought out expeditiously! The egg roll and barbeque pork were passible, but the egg roll was underdone but tasty, the pork swimming in too much sauce so as to disguise the real taste. The main entrees that came with the meal were a Gee Bow Gai with great fresh veggies, bok choy, mushrooms water chestnuts, and chicken breast tender and juicy. The sweet and sour pork was very good with pineapple, fresh green peppers, and lots of meat. The value is outstanding (prices very reasonable). Not gourmet but definitely worth the trip!

This is a decent lunch spot in the land of zero food options. I commute to the neighborhood for work each day and usually eat a sandwich in my car. I have been here many times and the service has always been accommodating even if there is the occasional language barrier. The decor is pretty dated but it is comfortable enough for a 25 minute visit. The food is very cheap in price and quite tasty. I can say with certainty that it is not 5 star dining but sure beats the Subway at Walmart (Which is similar to people watching at the carnival). My biggest complaint is the rude customers who smoke inside as it fills the entire place and my clothes now smell for the rest of the day. Guess this is one of the benefits of living in Illinois.

I've been going to this restaurant since I was a kid, the food is great, when dining in servers make you feel at home...

Not bad food, but I was surprised they don't serve spring rolls here. It's a private menu, not the typical franchise menu you find at most chinese restaurants these days.

Everyone has their favorite place for Chinese, this is mine. Its in Hessville, which is a neighborhood of Hammond and right on the main drag. Great food. Never had anything there I didn't like

This is definitely the best Chinese place in NWI. It's a nice sit down restaurant, great food and nice decor and friendly staff. I don't come here as much as I'd like to since I live further away. But if you want some great food, this is a great place.

Absolutely the WORST food, not just Chinese food, I have ever had! The food was mushy and tasteless. I had to drench my food in sweet and sour, which was 10cents a package, for any flavor. The woman behind the counter stared at me for 5 minutes before someone else came to help me. To top it off, When I opened my box, my order was wrong. The Richie Rich vase in the lobby was the only thing worth seeing in that restaurant.

I hadn't been to this Chinese restaurant ( restaurant-guide-uk.com/… ) in Hessville (why this would be a stop for any UK visitors is beyond me) since I lived in Hessville about 21 years ago. (Note: Hessville is one of the many neighborhoods in Hammond, Indiana.) Anyhow, as a child, I loved Lung Wah. It was the only ethnic restaurant we ever went to that wasn't Mexican and it FELT ethnic and exotic. It was dark and had red dragons all over the walls and nice wooden booths with lots of routed detail and they sold those awesome chewy rice-paper candies that got stuck in your teeth. They also had a combo appetizer called "Tidbits for Two" that arrived in its own wooden lazy Susan and totally ruled. Therefore, I was excited to make my return with my parents on Christmas Eve a few years ago. Well, the restaurant is still there, of course, and as is understandable, they've expanded and renovated in the past couple of decades. Sadly, now the newly bright interior is about as ethnic as that of an Old Country Buffet. Well, there were two barely noticeable dragon plaques on the walls. Also, the food was far nastier than it used to be. ("Tidbits for Two" was still there, but it just didn't sound as appetizing coming from a sticky laminated printout as it did coming from the "fancy" pleather-bound menus of yore.) The only thing Lung Wah has going for it are the price of the mixed drinks: $2.50. Can you even imagine? (By the way, you should definitely try ordering a Manhattan in a Chinese restaurant in Northwest Indiana just to watch the confused look on your server's face, as well as to see the nervous scurrying he or she performs while trying to find a bartender's guide.) Over all, I was pretty bummed out by the experience. Well, that is until we were leaving and I noticed a glass cabinet near the door that had a green vase with a golden dragon on it. Alas, it wasn't the tacky vase that really caught my eye, it was the placard next to it, which read something along the lines of: "This is the original vase seen in the Warner Bros. comedy 'Richie Rich.'" Had I still been drinking my Manhattan, I would have undoubtedly spit it all over the cabinet in laughter. Can you believe it? I ate Christmas Eve dinner in a room containing a vase that may have been in the same room as Macaulay Culkin or John Laroquette! Maybe both! Does this mean I'm only four degrees of separation from Michael Jackson's glove? It was worth it after all! If I ever go back, I'm defintitely bringing my camera.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
