Had this for dinner the other night. Foods not bad, place wasn't so clean so I don't know if I'll be back. And they only take cash. I'm a girl that never carries any cash (yes I know it's bad) so if u check it out just make sure u have cash.

They keep it simple.... and good. Huge, fresh shrimp at a reasonable price. They have been around for awhile and the quality has remained the same. Cash only

Great shrimp. Great flavor. Crispy but not hard. Can't wait to try the other items. Great value too. I will be back and if you have not tried them you should.

Loved this spot since I was a kid! I travel from the northside of Chicago just for the Jumbo shrimp and slaw!!
(5)Risa C.
Good more times than it isn't. Definitely some of the best shrimp in the area ( wayyyyy better than Lawrence Fisheries) Large 1/2 pound is under 8 dollars enough to fill me up. I get it with mild cocktail sauce!!! Enjoy, you won't regret this visit. :) all smiles after eating here:)

Shrimp. The best around. I LOVE their jumbo shrimp. Sure its a bit pricey for a pound, but its DELICIOUS. My old favorite was 95th st shrimp on the South Side, but Bob's has displaced them. Its carryout only at this location. Try it. You''ll love it.
(5)Deborah M.
Between Bobs in Hammond & Simply Seafood in Merrillville they are the best place )s) for Fresh Hot Delicious Seafood in the County!!!
(5)Rochelle W.
Bob's is the sister company to my favorite shrimp spot in Chicago - Shrimp Express, in Calumet City. Therefore......... love Shrimp Express = love Bob's Better than goose island, WAY better than lawerence fisheries..... give both of them a try if you are ever in the area. That's it.
(5)Pattie S.
Been there every other week i know what size jumbo shrimp r. Ordered a pound of jumbo shrimp.. they are not even xtra lg. Or large. Coustomer servise sucks. 38.00 down the drain. Thanx for nothing!!!! After years of going there &shrimpexpress.... u shoulad have saved shrimp express. Better quality . Just loss about 130.00 a month one customer

Love this place! I always order 1 lb of large shrimp and 1lb clam strips. Both items are always cooked well and the mild dipping sauce is delicious. Always make sure to check your food before you leave otherwise you're screwed. If you didn't get what you ordered and you leave it is no longer their responsibility. They have a note on the door to remind you. I picked up my food once and almost forgot to check my bags. I'm glad I did because there was catfish in my bag instead of clam strips. The woman behind the counter said they have similar abbreviations. So, since I caught their mistake before I left they gave me the right food with no problem. They even gave me a pop while I waited but Im sure that isn't something they do often. Make sure you place your order ahead of time otherwise you'll be waiting a while, this place gets pretty good business.

Bob's Shrimp is a dive. It isn't very clean. It has cases of pop stacked in front of the window while the two refrigerator cases are empty -- a telling sign, that the workers are lazy and the management doesn't care that you, the customer, want a cold drink to go with your food. It has lazy workers who don't care about the items in your order that are not shrimp. If you just order fried shrimp, zip, boom, you have your food. Order something else and while you wait for 25 minutes and watch everyone who came in after you get your food, you hear a periodic call: "I need a 1/2 pound of scallops..." The person who needs to fry the scallops really doesn't care that it is holding up the order, and the person who breads the scallops is too busy talking about putting their underwear on backwards (not making this up)! And other reviewers are right about the food being basic and bland fried food. The spice is in the sauce you choose. You get better fish and shrimp at a Lenten church fish fry. Why people flock here, I'll never understand. Must be because they don't know better than their habit, or can't drive another 15 or 20 minutes to get their food.

OMG! BEST shrimp in town. Even the large shrimp dinner is to die for... Lightly breaded and moist, choice of three different sauces. They have good lake perch & cat fish, but I keep getting the shrimp....

I'm surprised how Bobs shrimp has not reached the full 5 stars yet, this place offers some of the best quality shrimp and sea food in NWI. If your a health eater , I'd use bobs as a cheat as they mostly sell fried foods. Great business, I believe it's family owned, staff gives you what you ask for! It's like a home feeling from the time you order to the first bite. Shrimp shack that deserves a visit if you haven't yet tried it! Trust it's worth it
(5)Gabriella S.
My absolute favorite shrimp place EVER! I use to live in Hammond, IN before I moved to Georgia and this is still my favorite spot in town! Shrimp is so good but what tops it off is the sauce! Mild and hot are both great but mixed together is even better!
(5)Charles L.
When I go to Bob's I know I'm home. I haven't had Bob's since when they were selling their ships out of that little shack near the railroad tracks. Then when I found out they moved here to this new spot. I was like finally cause it was long overdue. But Bob's still hasn't lost his touch and I don't mind paying that high those ass prices. My cousin who is from Atlanta damn near was on his knees begging me to take him to Bob's before he left for the airport.
(5)Shawn R.
Their Jumbo shrimp is beyond reproach and the coleslaw is better than KFC but everything else they cook doesn't hold the batter too well. You will be real lucky if the smelt isn't cooked to a crisp. Based on their Jumbo shrimp and cole slaw it is a solid four star. The place is a dump though because the same person will run the cash register and cook the shrimp, I am sure the heat kills all the germs on the cash but it s just a strange process to behold. My favorite meal in all of Hammond or where ever it is.
(4)Jason P.
Great service! Food was hot and done in a timely fashion. Will definitely go back. I recommend.
(5)Sam A.
Bobs to me is tip top. Best all around shrimp I've had. I've eaten shrimp all over the coasts and Bobs takes the cake. Great quality; fast service; perfect light breading; and their in house mild and hot cocktail sauces are spot on. Excellent flavor. I try to go at least once a month.
(5)Rachael C.
In my book no seafood place has ever even come close to being better than Bob's Shrimp! Love this place! Can't go wrong with anything on the menu but the jumbo shrimp dinner seems to be my favorite! A little pricey but well worth it!
(5)Mrs J.
The absolute best shrimp I have ever eaten. They have nice big fat shrimp cooked to perfection. The sauce is very good too. The place isn't much to look at and no seating inside but i will gladly eat in my car or anywhere else. The shrimp is so good i crave it often. I haven't tried anything else on the menu but I never go wrong with the shrimp. Mmmmmmm , Bobs Shrimp.
(5)Jason R.
Curse you, Bob's Shrimp!! I crave your delicious shrimp CONSTANTLY! Even right now and it's breakfast time!
(5)C B.
Best & Biggest jumbo shrimp in town...
(5)Joey O.
This is the way shrimp are supposed to be served. This place is soooo basic, but they know how to make jumbo shrimp. The area sucks, the shrimp are awesome. If your going to the Shoe this is a must have.
(5)Igloo B.
Best shrimp in the area, great macaroni salad...
(5)carmen b.
Hello, I have tried Sharks, Something Good, Rays, and Calumet Fisheries. BOBS SHRIMP is the best Carry Out to me. It was recommended to me by an old friend who lives in the area. And has been there a long time. The place is not that inviting but wow the shrimp is GREAT. You can get Large or Jumbo. They have all kind of Fish such as Perch, Scallops, Oysters etc. Even the Fried Mushrooms and Cole slaw were great. A must try if you like Fresh Fried Shrimp.
(5)Ben N.
I have heard only GOOD things about Bob's Shrimp. My girlfriend and I visited Bob's earlier this evening. The business was steady, people coming in and out of the place, always seems to be a good sign. We ordered a seafood combo platter and a half pound order of large shrimp. We ate in our car on the way home since we live about a half hour south of Bob's. The shrimp were big so we were excited; that was a plus! But! Everything lacked any seasoning/flavor. The breading was crisp which was good for texture but the taste of the breading taste similar to a saltine cracker. Maybe Bob's is aiming for simplicity but I doubt we will ever order from there again, just won't be our place for fried seafood.

It's a filthy dive. Not a table, nor a stool. No beer, no wine, no fountain soda. The staff may or may not be happy to see you. And that's why I love it. It's a shrimp shack of the highest order. They may have a few other things on the menu, but you shouldn't come here for those things. You should come for the Jumbo Shrimp Dinner and that alone. Perfectly breaded, perfectly cooked, perfectly huge shrimp (tail off) handed to you in a white bag with a ton of fries, cole slaw and sauce. All for about $10 I don't want a shrimp shack that's clean. I want a distinct element of filth that breathes through the walls. To me, when it comes to shrimp shacks, filth equals flavor. You bring cash, they give you the best fried shrimp you'll ever have away from a coastal beach. The only problem you'll have is trying to find somewhere to eat it
(5)Alexesse M.
THE BEST shrimp joint in Northwest Indiana. Enough said.
(5)Joseph M.
"a pound of jumbo, well-done, w/ mild." Very good jumbo fried shrimp. The mild sauce is pretty tastey & unique. A bit pricey but quite a treat. Carryout only.

Stopped here leaving Chicago and was so happily surprised by how delicious it was. Fried smelt were fresh and the shrimp were large, plump and we'll seasoned. I'm picky about seafood and usually avoid eating it on the coasts, but this was great! Staff were also really friendly, will definitely return next time I'm out of Chicago this way.

I made a special stop at Bob's Shrimp after watching my local food hero Phil eat there on youtube. The video is called Chicago Fat Phil Eating Bobs Shrimp- youtube.com/watch?v=NulV… My girlfriend and I were on the homestretch of a Lake Michigan circle tour. We drove all the way around and were just the Skyway away from our cat, who possibly had run out of food. But I pulled off the highway and I'm glad I did. We split the extra large shrimp, one pound. They were cleaned, tasty and addicting. For sauces we opted for the Louisiana hot and the tartar- it tasted the best mixed together. My cat even ate a bite of fish when we got home. I tipped five dollars and you should too.

I love, love, absolutely love this place. Every time I come into town I make a stop here. They have the best jumbo shrimp....and mild sauce. They are better than Rays Shrimp or any other seafood place around here. They do not accept credit/debit cards. And they are not open on Sundays.
(5)E J H.
Started eating there when they were in the old place across the street (late 80's, early 90's, long before Yelp and iPhone). My buddy and I would buy a pound and park around the corner and consume while they were still piping hot. It don't get any better than that! Lightly breaded, seasoned just right, simply delicious. The drive for me is about 30 miles from home, but well worth it occasionally. The area is not impressive and the store is 'carry-out' only. No eat-in, which is ok by me. Haven't tried too many other things on the menu. I love shrimp!
(4)Stacey E.
AWESOME! I love you Bob! Best shrimp EVER! Seriously, the best fried shrimp I have ever had. A+++ on the hot shrimp sauce as well. I can't wait to go back. I didn't have to slap my mama cuz it was so good, she was sitting right next to me, slappin' herself! A week later she was still talking about how good the shrimp was (ok, I was too) but I will quote her in saying "I had heartburn for 4 days after eating that shrimp. It was worth it!" This shrimp is what Willis was talkin' 'bout! Don't pass up the opportunity to get yerself some shrimp here!
(5)Steve G.
I have been coming to Bob's since its last location on Chicago Ave. The large and jumbo shrimp are excellent as well as the lake or ocean perch and catfish nuggets. Will not be disappointed.
(4)Daniel M.
I would kill people for their shrimp. Kill people. ... ............ Okay, I wouldn't actually kill people, but the food here is really good.
(5)Sean T.
Yes! For shrimp, my experience with fish was on the soggy side w breading, I love walleye but... the fish itself wasnt very fresh...isnt the cleanest place in town either...stars all the way for the shrimp though!! Just when you order here make sure you have a defibrillator on the side
(4)Christopher L.
The most unbelievable fried shrimp in the world! A pound of Jumbo Shrimp is where its at. Soo good they don't have to serve it with anything but a pack of crackers. As far as I'm concerned, Indiana is pretty lame, with a place like Bob's... it's worth taking a trip. PLEASE OPEN A CHICAGO LOCATION!!!! you guys would BANK! SERIOUSLY!!!!
(5)A C.
Bob's Shrimp is the only place to get shrimp. My aunt told me about the place. She lives in Griffith and drives all the way out to Hammond just to get shrimp. There is no questioning that. I finally tried this place a few weeks ago, all I can say is that it's worth every penny you have to spend just to get there and get some.
