Japanese is my favorite cuisine (even tho sushi is just ok to me.. I know I know how could I love Japanese but not be a sushi lover ;) ) but I pass this place all the time and wanted to see if they had some good onigiri (rice balls) or bentos. I did not realize that they closed 10 mins before I came in. I did not want to hold them up but my daughter really wanted rice for lunch so I asked for some white rice. They balled it up for her (which she loves) and gave it to us for free because my toddler loved rice. What a nice act of kindness to a stranger. I will definitely be getting lunch here soon and telling friends about the random act of kindness. Arigato Yokohama!

Let me preface my review with the fact that I'm not an expert on sushi. I have, however, eaten sushi a lot, and enjoyed it on several occasions in Indianapolis, and abroad. Yokohama is not my first experience with sushi or Japanese cuisine. First off, Yokohama has an extremely warm, cozy and friendly atmosphere. It's basically situated in an old Arts & Crafts style home, which makes it unique when compared to the locations of other restaurants. The service is always professional and courteous, although it can be a little slow on a weekend night when they are packed, (most places are). The food always seems to be very fresh and very nicely prepared. The Tiger Eye hand roll is especially delicious, with cream cheese, jalapeño and mouthwatering smoked salmon. More recently, I've gone vegetarian and really enjoy Yokohama's Vegetable and Inari rolls. They also serve Mochi, (Japanese ice cream), which I love. I've eaten sushi elsewhere and sometimes the tab can be outrageous, but not at Yokohama. Here, the prices always seem very reasonable for the quality of food and service you get. With Its unique atmosphere and great food, I would highly recommend Yokohama as a great place to have a business lunch, meet friends or to take that "special someone" for a night out.

Great appetizers. The rest of the food that followed was not that great. Portions are small, and the main course food was just average in taste and over priced. I can only assume it was the owner or manager that came over to chat with us. She was very friendly and enjoyable to talk to. But other than thst, there appears to be much room for improvement at this place. All is not lost, as it has great potential. The atmosphere was very pleasant, warm and cozy. I would consider going again for appetizers only.
Service is somewhat slow, but the sushi is delicious and very affordable. I definitely don't bargain-shop for sushi, and their stuff is top quality and very reasonable. The dragon roll is my favorite. If it's not cold the sunroom is perfect for a group of 5-6.

I'm up visiting friends Indy and one of their favorite places is Yokohama. We all ordered drinks and loaded up on sushi. The rolls were quite good, maybe not the best I've ever had, but worth the visit. My only complaint was the price, while the rolls are huge they definitely seemed overpriced. My boyfriend and I shared 4 rolls and each had one drink and our bill was $90. Great place, just be prepared for a higher bill than your usual sushi restaurant.

I can't understand how this place has any negative reviews. We came in as an unexpected party of 7 and a half tonight (one was a kid) and they were more than accommodating. Food was delicious and Service was fantastic. Will definitely be back.

wife and I ate here during the Greenwood cash mob and we're very impressed with both the food and the service. Yes, the rolls are a little more than average in price, but be prepared for a significant difference in size from what you're used to at other places. It's easy to order 3 rolls other places and not leave with left-overs, but I ordered 2 and had a couple of pieces left for a midnight snack. If you're making a dinner decision based on yelp reviews, take a chance (and ignore the single stars) and give these guys a chance. You will not be disappointed!

This is by far the best sushi/atmosphere I have ever had (I'm originally from CA). The owners are delightful! The staff is wonderful and greet is warmly every time we come in. For our anniversary, we asked Debbie to surprise us with something new. It was delicious! She laughed because she said it might be hard to ask for again because it didn't have a name and she just made it up! This is our go to place when ever we have a chance to go out. Love them!!!

The teriyaki sauce is heavy and too sweet. The sushi is good but worth their prices! I've had just as good for less at Ichiban. Very friendly tho. Service-5 stars Food-3 stars, prices-2 stars

Owners are very very rude. This is def not the place to go to catch up with a friend. We arrived around 6:15p and was asked by the owners at 7:47p to please pay because there were other reservations. Not Joking! Our table was a table of 3 that was pushed up against a window in a corner...it wasn't like we were taking up a huge table. We seriously thought they were joking at first but they so weren't :/ We were caught off guard and very offended. When the guy owner brought back my card and receipt to sign, he stood there and waited for me to sign it!! It was very awkward. I have never been treated like this Ever at restaurant! There is nothing even special about this place. Sushi is like the sushi you would get at ichiban or kabuto. Miso soup wasn't that great but was edible. Basically I will never go to this restaurant again. Our usual place to go has always been Ichiban but were just trying to try something different... We will definitely not make the mistake of going here AGAIN!! Good luck to you if you decide to eat here. If you do, make it snappy... Eat, don't conversate, pay, and get out in order to not risk being a spectacle among the restaurant.

Great service! Amazing sushi! Try the Debbie roll, it doesn't look like much in the description but it tastes awesome. For couples- ask about the love booth! Also, get to know the owners Debbie and Scott they'll take great care of you!

Although we typically frequent other sushi places on the southside, I figured it was time to check out Yokohama. The decor and ambiance of the restaurant is excellent. It is placed inside a house and each individual room has a few tables. This makes for a more intimate atmosphere. We were looking for something fast and Yokohama delivered! The service was pretty great and the sushi was delivered quickly. The menu may scare some people away, for the prices alone. The sushi roll prices might seem a bit higher than other local restaurants, but the special rolls are much larger than other places. The Tsunami Roll was packed with great flavors and had a nice, spicy kick! We will definitely try Yokohama again!

The sushi is fantastic! They have very fresh and great tasting fish. The only reason this isn't five stars is that there was a little too much rice on the rolls and its a bit pricy. It's completely worth it because the fish is so fresh though! I will be back!

Some of my favorite sushi in the state. I've made an effort to try basically every sushi restaurant in Central Indiana, Muncie, and the Evansville area. I keep coming back to Yokohama. The staff are always friendly and the food is always delicious. Prices are a little steep and the in-home atmosphere isn't for everyone, but overall I highly recommend it.

Yum. First time going. I ordered over the phone for a pickup. It was ready in about ten minutes when I got there. Beautiful presentation. Just a little more than I've ever paid for sushi but not disappointed.

This review goes along with Stacey D. I have eaten here several times and have enjoyed the food though it is pricey. Tonight was a very upsetting experience! We were asked to leave because they needed the table for other reservations. (Though we saw no one waiting as we walked out.)We had not been there even a full 2 hours. I have never been asked to leave a restaurant before! We spent almost $40 on sushi and continued to chat and enjoy ourselves. Yes, the owner was very rude. We asked him to split the check because she had a card and I was using cash. He implied it was really simple math and even asked what kind of school I went to! I am really upset with how we were treated. I cannot return to this restaurant after feeling the way I do tonight.

In short, the service is excellent, but the food is 2-stars at best... WAAAY overpriced for the quality of food that you are receiving. One of the worst Japanese food experience I've ever had. I can't even believe they can even call the place Japanese restaurant. Not even close. 1. Miso soup - Cheap miso paste used, perhaps old fermented batch, giving the soup a sour taste. One sip and I did not even finish it. 2. Sushi - I've tried several different rolls to check the quality. They were "sushi" looking food. The quality of rice is poor, with a hint of sesame oil aroma in spicy tuna roll. I think the smell is used to cover the low quality of fish being used. 3. Ginger - Chef there decided to chop up the gingers. Why would he do that? The ginger smelled chlorine once put into mouth. Cutting board disinfected with chlorine and was not rinsed properly? 4. Wasabi - Old and low quality, giving lack of aroma and taste. It's just a green colored paste. 5. Vegetable Yakisoba - Yuk! Too greasy and contained few pieces of zucchini, onions and carrots. This for $10? Come on. 6. Japanese Fried Rice - Yuk! The fried rice was not prepared over hot wok or pan. VERY bland with not much flavor. You can taste low grade cheap soy sauce. Shrimp in the fried rice was fresh though. Rice with soy sauce and few pieces of shrimp for $10. Huh? Atmosphere is not bad, service is excellent. Food? Forget about it. First and the last time I'm going there. I really need to find a good Japanese place in Indianapolis area. If you want to have EXCELLENT sushi, you gotta check out Circle Sushi in Atlanta, GA. I was blown away! Need to come up with a biz trip out there.

I can certainly sympathize with James K.'s review. The owner and many of the staff are quite brusque with their customers. On the weekends service can be very slow. Though I will say that the owner does recognize my wife and we probably get better service because of that. I also quite enjoy the food, and the variety to the menu. As sushi goes its reasonably priced and come in good quantities. It is located in an old house so the space is cramped, I wouldn't advise taking a group of more than 4.

We eat here all the time - pretty much weekly. Love the food. My fiancé always has sushi and I always order dinner. I've had just about everything and we love it. Debbie (sushi chef) is always a joy, and even in times when we are running late, we have called and they have stayed open just for us! You can't beat it! Love it!
