Just had a great lunch and beer! Steak sandwich and buffalo chicken wrap were great! The kids chicken fingers meal was good stuff too! Great service too!

Many years ago, when I was an avid cigar smoker, some of the guys I would sit and smoke with perked my ears with mention of beer made in Indiana. In Greenwood. At this point, I had only mild interest in craft beer. I had never really heard of any beers being made in Indiana. So, I put it on my list to check out. A long relationship ensued. I grew into a loyal fan and went as often as my wallet (i.e. my wife) would let me. There have been a few dry spells, my latest caused by a terrible bout of service on my last visit a year or so ago. The wife and I have grown to really enjoy chatting and hanging out with the general manager here, so we decided to go again to see him. The memories of my first Indiana beer, fall off the bone ribs, juicy steak sandwiches and burgers came flooding back. The beer is actually pretty damn decent. Superfly IPA is one of the better in the state. They have a nice slate of seasonal. It really is a nice, local, comfortable place. The menu may appear very typical and boring at first glance. Looking closer, you can find treasures full of imaginative and tasteful delight. Korean BBQ beef quesadillas, for example. Nice. Very nice. Even their more standard fare has always been pretty good with a few misses (nothing major.) The burgers are pretty good. The ribs, as mentioned, are some of the best I have had. I would put them against any in the rib universe. Though, I am not an expert on ribs. I didn't finish my rib-eating bachelor's degree because they said I wasn't passionate enough for the art of ribs. Oh well, all you can eat on Monday. Succulent and consistently so. The staff can sometimes seem like they are just kind of there. The teenagers chill by the hostess stand, waitresses can seem tepid. Not always, just inconsistent on the service front. A few great exceptions exist here, though. And, the main man, Mike Budak, is a fantastic individual and this place will only continue to grow better under his leadership.

I like the seared tuna appetizer. I QUITE like the Snakepit Porter. I love the butter pecan bread pudding. This place is seemingly in the middle of nowhere though! What gives? It's in a kitschy semi-abandoned looking strip mall. If you are in Greenwood, this is a great choice. If you are elsewhere, rest assured the time and effort you put into getting down here will not be in vain. The food and beer are both good, and the service was pretty good too. It always irks me when I specify "no lemon" and there's lemon in my water. It makes me wonder if the server also forgets to wash her hands. But then, I'm neurotic. Portions of this place are louder than others...be sure to specify if you want quieter dining.

Too bad I can't give less than 1 star. I was at Oaken Barrel tonight. See Thad H.'s review from tonight as well. I agree wholeheartedly with his review AND I also saw the lovely Wood Roach on the wall. Definitely a Place To Avoid.

I have been coming to Oaken Barrel for years now. When my now husband and I started dating this was our go to restaurant and we now bring our kids here as well. We can't come in without getting the Idaho Nachos as an appetizer. The Nachos consist of a heaping plateful of crispy well-seasoned waffle cut fries that have been topped with melted cheddar cheese, tomato, black olives, jalapenos, sour cream, and salsa. You can get them with or without taco meat and honestly we enjoy them either way but tend to opt for without to save some room for our meals. The menu is pretty the standard beer accompaniment fare of burgers, pizza, and pasta but there are a few item's that deviate from the norm, such as enchiladas & etouffe. Almost every single time we come in my husband gets the Shepherd's Pie and it doesn't matter if it's the middle of July and it's 100+ degrees outside, the man knows what he likes. I tend to be the more adventurous one and have been pleased with everything I've tried, though I am partial to the Smoked Chicken Pesto and the BBQ Chicken Pizza. Of course you can't review a brewery and not talk about their beer. Hands down this is one of our favorite local microbrews!!! They have a great range of brews for every palate whether you like something lighter like the Razz-Wheat or something that will put hairs on your chest like the Snake Pit Porter. If you try a brew that you just absolutely love they have growlers and six packs for purchase before you leave. Don't forget to try the seasonal beers (they even have half pint sizes to try a few different brews without a huge commitment) including the ever elusive Apple Buzz in the fall. We come back time after time because it's a family friendly environment with good food, great beer, and excellent service.

Have been here many times took a long break and decided to start going again. I ordered the weekend special which was swordfish, rice, and veggie mixture. The swordfish was cooked as specified (rare in the middle) which I was very happy about. The veggies were fresh and had good flavor. The rice was lacking though in taste and texture. It seemed very close to boxed minute rice which was a bummer. I'll be back though because they have solid beer and they have a number of other great dishes

Looking for a local restaurant (non chain found out east) and discovered the Oaken Barrel Brewing Company from YELP reviews. Happened to be on a Monday night which is their RIB night. What a spectacular find. The ribs were done to perfection and fell off the bones. Monica our waitress was very pleasant and prompt. We also had appetizers of Shrimp and bonless wings. Both appitizers were very crispy on the outside and moist ond flavorful on the inside. So many entrees on the menu and watching the food pass our table we were very impressed with other entree's. The ribs were so satisfying we could not really leverage the all you can eat special. After a full rack we had to split a second rack and struggled to finish. Highly recommended

Food is standard out of the microwave/boring food. Old lettuce Caesar and a full sauerkraut Rueben. Don't expect much quality, felt like I was walking into a Cracker Barrel, but they taste better. Great beer!

As a non-beer drinker, vegetarian, finding anything to eat or drink at Oaken Barrel is a bit of a challenge. I have thoroughly enjoyed the "Cowboy Caviar" - which is a type of nachos with cream cheese, beans, veggies, and chips - but it is seemingly one of the only vegetarian options on the menu. The appetizers are pretty good, including the bavarian prezel and hot cheese sauce (yum!). The service is normally pretty great here and the menu is full of affordable options. I have been here several times for parties and other luncheons and their party room is a great place for a big group. Vegetarians. Oaken Barrel is not your place. No complaints otherwise, just wish they'd add a few more options to be vegetarian friendly!

The beer here is very good and brewed completely on premises. All the burgers are good. The tenderloin is better had some where else. Can't go wrong with the ribs and the spicy shrimp is to die for. The only problem with this place is the noise level. When the place is busy, you cannot even hear the person across the table from you.

I'm a regular here for as long as they've existed, so this is not a one visit review. I get in from once/week to to once/month. The atmosphere is typical brewpub. There's a bar area, family area, and outdoor seating. They have a good selection of award winning beers. My usual is Alabaster, a Belgian wit. Snakepit Porter is a solid beer. Gnawbone Pale and SuperFly IPA is for the hopheads. I like variety, so I always try the seasonals. The regular beers are true to style and the seasonals can get more adventurous. Generally 1-2 seasonals are on tap. They sell wine, but no other beers. Appetizer I like include - cajun beef tips, heavily coated with spices and served with horseradish (big flavor, but not hot), Idaho nachos are like nachos with waffle fries instead of chips (awesome and enough for the whole table), Cowboy Caviar is a black bean and cream cheese dip with corn chips. They have a good hamburger, chicken sandwich, tuna sandwich, and my recent favorite the steak sandwich on a crusty roll with cheese and au jus. I like to get fresh fruit as a side instead of fries. Black bean soup has always been good. I like their pizza - the five cheese and chicken pesto are my favorites. The greek salad is awesome - I get it with shrimp. It's got lettuce, tomato, cucumber, black olives, feta, and pitas. They have good ribs, which appear to be one of their most popular items. My favorite for a bigger meal is the filet medallions served in a nice rich reduction with mushrooms, mashed potatos, and veggies. They're pretty crowded on Friday and Saturday night, so expect a wait from 7-9pm. Sometimes I've been surprised with a wait for a table on a weeknight.

My husband insisted that I try this place with him. The location was in the middle of nowhere but its like finding a treasure in a deserted place, lol. The atmosphere was dark and hard for me to lipread, so we sat outside in a cute patio area. We had the sesame boneless wings which were phenomenal.. the crust was thick, full of flavor, and the chicken so juicy inside. My husband and I ordered the tex mex burgers and they were so good.. probably the best burgers we've had in the midwest! They also have this cool kids meal toy (better than your usual crayon pack) that kept my daughter busy!

How to even review?? If it were based on beer and only beer 4 stars. It's Monday so it's all you can eat rib night. I don't eat ribs, but imagine that's why it was so busy. Hostess was not friendly. Sigh. It was pretty loud inside and hard to enjoy a dinner conversation with my husband. Felt like I was yelling so he could hear me. Our waitress was ok for how busy they were. It's a brewery why not suggest a beer? Tell me about the beer, no? Oh ok. We ordered the bacon dip with chips since Yelpers suggested it. Uh where was the bacon?????? The chips were bland. How about some salt? Some of the chips were very floppy/soggy. No thanks. Ordered the Wisconsin burger no BBQ sauce plus mayo. No mayo! I waited a good amount of time before our could get the servers attention to even ask for some mayo. I really expected her to ask how my meal was shortly after serving it. Never happened. Now the burger was not good. Was it my fault for ordering it well done? Idk. It was so dry. Soooooooo dry. Glad I had the beer to choke it down with. And flavorless. I think they just don't use salt here! I was going to mention it to the server but what's the point? She was too busy to track down. So I would come back to eat? No thanks. I would come back for the beer.

One of my local favorites. Great menu. The chicken enchilada is fab! The bavarian pretzels are hot & soft. Idaho nachos are always a fave. Bar staff is kinda slow. But sometimes its ok when your having an app & beer. They have a great selection of their own. I think they should expand to serve liqour as well.

This is one of the last Indy area brewery/brewpubs I hadn't been to, but I took care of that yesterday, and I'm glad i did. Well, actually, I had been there with my wife last year, but we didn't have any beer, and the visit was through no fault of the 'Barrel, .. creepy. :D Anyway. We went in, sat at the bar and ordered up a flight as we usually do at brewpubs/breweries that offer them - and they ALL should. The bartender was quite generous and gave us samples of more than just the brews that were on the sheet. All of the brews were good; see BeerAdvocate for that info. I particularly liked the JD Stout and the Alabaster. If it was only a brewery, I'd probably award 4 stars. But, it's also a restaurant, and that's why they're getting 3 stars. The food's good. Problem is, unless you're with a huge group, or like to eat "way too much," it's a little hard to order off the menu. My wife and I usually share appetizers and entrees when we go out. It's easier to maintain heath doing that, in this "ZOMG HUGE PORTIONS!!!!" culture. A lot of places now will do 1/2portions of apps and entrees; OB does NOT. And their app portions are HUGE. The bartender was willing to run down what ISN'T huge, though, and that was helpful. We ended up getting cajun beef tips and chips-n-salsa, both of which were good and nice portions for splitting. If they'd offer 1/2portions or smaller portions, I'd probably give them 4 stars - the beer is VERY good and the food is good too. It's just too much food. People don't NEED that much food. /sigh.

Tough place to rate. The beers are pretty good to really good (the amber ale). And, the food choices are plentiful and taste good - the Cajun tips are delicious. But, the place has zero atmosphere - doesn't even have the feel of a Cracker Barrel. So, to drink or eat, but don't expect much more.

Jon: "Got any greens?" Waitress: "Nope." In the back of her mind, "but dude, we have amazing beer -- that's the real food here." She's right. Gotta hand it to 'em here... not having greens as an option for a side dish is really sticking to their Greenwood guns. Should I expect anything else from my banal yet oh-so bizarre hometown? Sure, they did have "vegetable medley" as a choice to accompany the pork chop (but long ago... the lunch ladies of Greenwood frightened me off). Apparently squash was the main veggie in the medley... but I didn't believe them... so I was forced into a beautiful space of a pork chop & fries to go with the beer. Pork chop: hearty & on the bone but tough. Fries: fries. Enough with the veggies... let's get on to the real food, the beer: brewed on site... crazy fresh and styles a plenty. From seasonals of Imperial IPA & Pilsner (that Pilsner was frothy, crisp & whole... like a good German) to house Pale Ale & Amber & Witbier. Carry out six packs available... along with growlers of the fresh keg beer. (I'm noticing growlers left and right -- not just in my kitchen -- it's becoming the thing to do around these parts... oh, wait... I just frequent places that offer growlers so my purview is limited to the kind-hearted, friendly folks that drink damn good, local beer. A fine purview I should add.) We were there on a crazy busy night (Brickyard 400, Subaru of Indiana Club) so it was a 7 minute wait until the host figured out what to do with the chaotic room. We were sat at the table we wanted... good form... in the Brewhouse bar section (cozier... not as much of an eatery). Located not too far from I-65, so for commuters like myself... it's not sooooo bad. It's stellar beer. I'm proud it comes from Greenwood. Somehow someone in Greenwood had their act together for something worth traveling to.

My best friend took me here last week and I thought it was great! I tried several of the house brews and both were good. My favorite was "Superfly" which is an APA. The beer garden has lots of seating and shaded areas to keep it cool. If you want to sit outside, arrive early because by 7:00 the garden is packed! If you are interested, there is a mug club, so you can fill your own cup and come as often as you please. Our meals were delicious (I had Mediterranean pasta) and the portions are big. Bring an appetite! Also, the potato skins and nachos are great appetizers. I will definitely return to the Oaken barrel if given a chance.

Ladies lunch with five kids! Everyone was happy with their food and service. The chili was uniquely spicy and I always love the tuna steak sandwich. Very glad it is back. 11 months ago I wanted it and it was off the menu. We all want to go back!

The beer is good, the food is passable, the service sucks. But I'm still a fan of this easy alternative to highway fast food. Every time I drive south of Indianapolis, I stop here.

One of my favorite Brewhouses/Resturants.. They have some great brews as well as seasonal brew. The food specials are always great as well. A must try in my book is Razzwheat beer unless the seasonal Apple Buzz is available. The idaho Nachos are always a hit in my book for an appitizer although I like Shallos Beef Tips better. They always have excellent soup specials too, my favorite is Pizza Soup. You can ever go wrong with their Steaks, Salads or Tenderloin. Great place to be, love the outside seating as well!

Made a visit to Greenwood with my Mom for a late lunch. The staff was very friendly and helpful, however the server only looked at me when talking about the beer.. A fairly fatal mistake in my opinion when serving.. I get it, I get it.. Guys like beer, blah blah blah. The food was average at best and was definitely not a highlight to the visit. We were very hungry so just about any food at that point was necessary. I'm glad we made the visit and would most likely return, but I'm not in any rush. Also, the Apple Buzz did not live up to the hype.. I didn't hate it, but they have better quality beers available.

Great food, decent beer and pretty poor service. They do brew their own beer so props for that and $5 growlers on Thursday is the best deal around, but their only great beer in my opinion is SuperFly. The Gnawbone and Snake-pit are also decently good beers. Best brewery in Greenwood, I'll put it that way. $6 six packs on Sunday if you're feeling thirsty.

Had the Cowboy Caviar, it was pretty good but a few of the tortilla chips were chewy. I recommend getting the Hoosier Tenderloin. It was amazing! Not too big and pretty thick. The fries were excellent too! Definitely a great deal for $7.95

Great bar food: love the Cajun Beef Tips -- spicy and so tender; the onion rings are above average. I sampled the Razz Wheat beer : it does have a strong raspeberry flavor but I don't know if it qualifies as a beer. :) Don't remember what beer hubby tried but he enjoyed it. Will definitely come back when we visit Greenwood, IN again.

Stopped in here on our way to Chicago. I like to check out Yelp to find places that are not the standard highway fare, yet are still close enough to the Interstate to make it a reasonable stop. This place fit the bill on both those counts. And it had plenty of free parking. Since we were driving we didn't sample the beer - though on this late afternoon just a week before Christmas many people were doing just that. My husband had the Greek salad, I had the grilled chicken buffalo sandwich. Both decently priced and good. We also shared the home made potato chips. I'm not a big fan of potatoes in any form, but I will say these were tasty. I couldn't stop eating them. Reasonably priced as well for how much they served. All in, decent meal for two with tax and tip at $25. We would stop in here again.

I'm not a huge fan of their food, but the beers and price more than make up for it. They offer the usual styles of beer, but I usually go for the Superfly IPA and the Indiana Amber. The IPA is no joke at 7.5% ABV and 100+ IBU. There is a nice small outdoor dining/drinking area which is great when the weather is decent. Thursdays are my favorite day of the week to visit because they have Indiana Amber for $2 a pint and growler refills are only $5. Only $5 for 64 ounces of goodness, including the aforementioned IPA! Don't forget to sign up for the free points card. After every five visits, you get a $5 gift card. Hey, that's a free growler fill on Thursdays! One negative is that they will only fill their own growlers, whereas joints like Sun King and Broad Ripple Brewpub will fill any and just slap their sticker on it.

How can you not love this classic and still great micro brewery. They are the OG of micro breweries in the Indy area. They have been around for twenty years and people tend to forget, but the Gnaw Bone IPA is one of the best in the state. They have great food, a great staff and love to show the games, whatever they may be, on all screens. They encourage their brewers to try new things and their new Weizenboch is great, the nitro stout is amazing and their VERY seasonal APPLE BUZZ is can't miss if you can catch it. Growler thursday is a great deal. Plus you can't beat a good conversation about anything comic book or game of thrones with Snappy. Family friendly but also great for adults, good place to eat outside. Catch it at the right time of day and you get a lot of fly overs from the local airport and the kids love it. Great staff, i can not say that enough. I wish they would expand a little in two the neighboring empty business and expand outdoor seating.

On our first visit to Oaken Barrel, we found ourselves stranded in Greenwood by a snowstorm. To our surprise, there was a small brewpub in town, so we sought it out. What a pleasant surprise! The food was ample and good. We got the tuna sandwich and a hamburger - both were good, but the hamburger was better - moist and delicious. But of course, the real reason to come is the beer. I've tried most of theirs, and they are all solid. Of the ones I've had, though, the RazzWheat is the real star. It's a smooth, tasty wheat beer with raspberries in it. Unlike a lot of other fruit beers, RazzWheat gives you the tasty fruit flavor without any cloying sweetness. I've given it to a lot of people who don't like beer otherwise and they like it as well - but this is no berry juice masquerading as beer. I like the Indiana theme to the beers and look forward to trying the Gnaw Bone IPA next time I'm there. Whenever I pass through Greenwood, I think I'll stop by here to get a meal or some beer to go - the prices on the take-away six packs are quite reasonable. Reasonable prices and good beer, tucked away where you could easily miss it.

Great food! Great value! Our server was serving the entire bar by himself on a Friday night, so he wasn't able to be very attentive. Still, he handled it with grace, the way a good server does... Oaken Barrel is jumping into our regular rotation.

I was very disappointed in the service here. I worked in the restaurant industry for four and a half years and I've seen customer service done well and I've seen it done poorly. I will never go back to this restaurant and I have told dozens of people to not go there as well. Here's my experience: it was advertised that Monday nights were "all you can eat ribs." It was my friend's birthday and he LOVES ribs so we decided to splurge and get some ribs. I took a party of 12 people for dinner and 8 of us ordered the ribs. After the first rack of ribs came out, we were told that the kitchen only had three full racks of ribs left. I tried to have a positive attitude and told the server that that should be enough for us. Without any further explanation, the server brought out three half racks of ribs for us to share (half of the promised amount). I calmly asked him about it and he began to rant about how it was our fault for bringing in such a large group without a reservation. I remained as calm as possible because I knew that it wasn't the server's fault that they ran out of ribs, but I was upset that he would blame paying customers. After the meal, I went to speak to the manager and described the situation to him. He promised to "take some drinks off or something..", but when the bills came, no discounts were added and no explanation was given by the staff. I hate to be the entitled American, but I paid for and was promised all-you-can-eat ribs, and I got one full rack. Then I was blamed for the poor management of the restaurant.

I don't drink, but this is one of the few Independently owned restaurants in Greenwood. The food is all good. I would say that most of it is made there on site. I love the Shepard's pie. If you want to try some good food and keep your money local you cant go wrong here.

Aint nothin' wrong with this joint. It's got a nice, albeit very Greenwood, atmosphere, good food, and pretty damn decent beer. Now, just because there aint nothing wrong with it don't mean it's the best place ever. As a full blown lush, I really think that OB needs to focus on its beer more than its food. They have some pretty good beer over there and they need to focus on it a little more! Now, I say they focus on their food more than beer, but that's my own perception, it's not like I sat down with their owner (a guy named Kwam or Kwal... something cool like that), and he told me that's what they were doing. I also realize that the alleged food focus is probably good for business. The place is located in Greenwood, and Greenwood-ers (or whatever you call us) aren't traditionally known as adventurous drinkers. Now that that's out of the way, I can get onto the beer. My favorite is the Alabaster. It's a traditional Belgian wheat beer and it's perfect for a hot summer day. The Snake Pit porter is also pretty banging. It's thick and rich, just like any self respecting porter. OB also does some great rotating beers. They had one a few weeks ago (April and March 2011) that was great. I can't remember the exact name, it was an irish red though, and they poured it with a nitrogen push. Which earns them a massive amount of street cred in my opinion. It was smooth and creamy, and I drank my first in about three minutes, because it went down so easy and tasted so spectacular. OB's irish red really put George Killian to shame! All in all, I really do like OB, despite them having some mixed up priorities in my opinion. The only thing that really irks me is some of their clientele. I was once enjoying a beer at the bar and a group sat down at one of the tables in the bar. The served walked over for the drink order and one of the people got a damn Coors Light. I've got nothing against Coors, but seriously? You're gonna get yellow fizzy stuff when you're at a brew pub? Good job buddy. Anyhow, like I said, it's a good joint despite that one asshat. Definitely worth the drive if you live somewhere not so close! PS! they sell their beers for damn cheap! I'm talking about 3 bucks a pint! That's darn good for a fine local brew!

Excellent service, Great food. Nice outside seating. I recommend the Idaho Nachos. Whether you're in the mood for pasta, pizza, burgers or Mexican, there's a dish that will make your stomach happy! I've been eating there for years and am always satisfied. Try it!

Picked this place based on Yelp - was in an area of Indy that I don't find myself that often, and wanted a kid-friendly non-chain place to try and this seemed to fit the bill. I didn't try the beer - wish I'd been there at a time to try that. Noise was almost painful to me, and there was only one other (largeish group) table in our room. Took a while to get waited on, but the waitress was apologetic about it, and very attentive after that. No complaints about the service. The food was just bad. Mine and my daughter's (I tried hers too) - though we had similar foods. I had a buffalo chicken sandwich (my go-to menu choice at a pub type place) and the chicken felt undercooked - I wound up nibbling around the edges of it. My daughter got chicken strips and they were totally dry and not good. The fries were the beer-battered kind, and they looked fantastic, but were only so-so, really. They did give my daughter wiki stix instead of crayons, and I love places that do that. Nowhere I'd go back, other than to try the beer.

While in Indy I stumbled onto this place and decided to give it a try. Typical brewpub feel, the brewing operation was visible through windows. Ample seating with several televisions playing sports stations. Unfortunately we were seated in an area where the brewhouse was not visible. The food was average, lots of choices, but average at best. The beer menu was decent for a small brewpub, I think there were 5 or 6 beers available. My wife had the sampler, and I had the Indiana Amber. The amber was decent, a little forgetable, but not bad. Among the beers on the sampler was a belgian witbier, an APA, a porter, a rasberry wheat fruit beer, and the amber. The belgian witbier was OK at best, but I would not order it again, and the Rasberry wheat beer was pretty bad. The APA and the porter were decent. Unfortunately, they did not have any guest taps, so if you are less than blown away by thier offerings you are out of luck... The service was disappointing, our server knew nothing about the beer, and rarely checked on us to see if we needed anything else. I think they need to do a better job at training thier staff on the beers that they offer. Overall this place was not bad, but it was far from stellar. None of the beers were good enough to draw be back in there for a repeat visit.

As someone who works at a brewery I can, with confidence say, the beer is good. As someone who loves ribs, I can say the ribs are to die for; fall off the bone yummy. The service was borderline acceptable. The waitress was busy and not very helpful. She was short with us and her co-workers. We had to ask what the specials were. She said ribs. We haf to ask if there was a seasonal on tap and she said yes and told us the name and nothing about the beer. If you are a brew pub your waitress should talk about your beer. I would go back, and hope for another waitress.

Went to Oaken Barrel because I love micro brews. The beer was alright, I've had better. Also ordered nachos, but instead of chips they used waffle fries. I didn't care for that to much. Maybe next time I'll try a dinner instead of an app. It was a very cool place though. I'd go back!

The Shepards Pie was hearty and paired well w their Indiana Amber craft beer. I ordered the flight of beer to make sure I didn't miss anything. Gnaw Bone, Indiana Amber and Snake Pit were my favs (in that order). After working in Orlando, w acess to no good beer, I was desparate & went to Yelp for help. Yelp delivered! I sat next to a local that has been enjoying their craft brew for 15 years. His Fish & Chips looked really good. .

I have been to Oaken Barrel a few times, mostly on the weekends in the afternoons. My husband really enjoys coming here for the beer. I am not a beer drinker, so I think the place is fine, but nothing special. The onion rings are good, and most of the other food I have had is ok. If you are looking for beer and fried pub-type foods, you will find it here. If it were my choice of place to go, I would rather go to Granite City on the northside for watching sports on bigger TVs and better food.

I love this place because my first experience with them was a COLT'S tailgate. They have a different theme each time depending on who the Colt's are playing. They have a Colts school bus that has a few exterior taps with kegs of their beer sitting inside the bus, nice and chilled. The owner cooks the food in the parking lot and it's usually pretty good. So if you are looking for catering, you should call them up. Oaken Barrel is a brewing company and has a full restaurant located in Greenwood. They have a lot of food choices. My first visit to the actual restaurant was this past October some friends of ours had their wedding reception on the back patio. It was cold but flawless. The owner put some heaters out there, a buffet of food, and we got unlimited beer and wine. The service was amazing, very quick, hospitable, and we had a great time. The food however was okay. Nothing great or truly memorable just decent food. And since I don't drink much beer, I tasted a few of the beers (just to confirm I didn't like any) and stuck with the wine which was pretty good! Although if I had to drink beer, the razzwheat would be first choice as it has a little bit of sweetness to it. My fiance likes beer and he likes theirs and he would agree it's pretty decent and we always try to support someone local. We stopped by once when we were down south, but it was packed so we went to a chain restaurant down the street. Call and make reservations if you are going on the weekend. We definitely would like to come back and order off the menu sometime as the prices don't look too bad and there are a lot of items to choose from. I know the food can be good, it will just depend on what you get and who cooks it.

Great food, great beer. I've seen the same faces here, some over a decade, so it must also be a great place to work.

Can you say "Great Local Beer"? The beer doesn't get any fresher, than straight out of the serving tanks here at Oaken Barrel. They have many styles, but myself, I love their IPA. But they have almost everything, stouts, wheats, bitters, etc. What about the food you may say? Well, it's quite tasty as well. I was in on a Monday night, and they had a rib special that was excellent. The meat fell right off the bone, and when coupled with their onion rings, the meal was magnificent. The wait staff is always quite friendly, and very knowledgable of their different craft brews. Great Place to unwind, and throw a few calories down.

Good food, and better beer. Get the sampler and try all the beers that they have to offer. Its a great atmosphere and nice portions. If you're in Greenwood and want to try something other than the chains this is your place.

Homemade chips and Bacon dip are the bomb. Burgers are some of the best around. Service could be alittle faster. But it is still a great place to eat.

I really don't understand all of the hype about this place. We did not drink the beer, so that may have rendered our taste buds, but the burgers were bland and the staff was slow to respond. We probably will not be back.

Great food, great beer! I've been a couple of times and I'm a fan. The space is a bit crowded but the food and drink make up for the close quarters. If you are a beer fan I recommend the sampler. The country fired chicken is also really good.

So I was gonna do take out with my friend. We were gonna share the shrimp app ad split a rack of ribs. As we walked in, we checked the specials board and saw an all-you-can-eat for ribs that was $3 cheaper. It had our names written all over that. These ribs weren't from some anorexic pig; this pig might've gone to a biggest loser competition if it made it. The Razz-Wheat beer was a recommendation from some Indiana natives (relocated to Florida because of the cold winters) we met around the pool. We told them we wanted some local food and they unitedly directed us to Oaken Barrel. Meanwhile, we asked the front desk lady at our hotel the same question and she directed us to the Waffle House and Bob Evans down the road. Oaken Barrel offers locals a dining club card where each visit earns you a point. 100 points gets you a glass mug and 500 points gets you and engraved mug to hang at the bar. Our waitress told us those people easily had 1500-2000 points. My mouth was agape as she mentioned this. But with the kind of smokey, tangy, perfectly sauced, meaty ribs that OB offers, if I were an IN local, I just might have a few mugs myself.

Meh. It's just okay. Nothing special. Food is edible. Beer is drinkable. It is a nice local alternative to hitting up Applebee's and the like. Casual, affordable.

I am so disappointed with Oaken Barrel. In the past me and my family have enjoyed going there and have given them plenty of our money and support when their seasonal apple buzz beer was released. We were SO looking forward to celebrating a birthday party at Oaken Barrel with a large party of 30, and after speaking with a manager last night, I was under the impression that we would be able to rent their "banquet room" that is advertised on their home page of their website. Not only do they advertise the banquet room on their website, they even have a number to call for reservations for parties of 10 and over. After talking with the manager, he said our party shouldn't be a problem, we just needed to call back the next day (today) to get confirmation from the owner. My parents went in today to confirm and had a TERRIBLE experience with a manager. He had such an attitude. He told them the banquet room WAS available, and he just had to step to the back to confirm with the owner. He then came back and suddenly the room wasn't available. They were told the owner can turn small parties in that room two or three times in the amount of time one large party would be there. A. Who says that to a customer? B. Don't advertise your banquet room on your HOME PAGE of your website if you aren't going to reserve it C. You're telling me that 30 people eating dinner and having 2+ drinks on top of the $100 down payment to hold the room wouldn't bring in as much money as it would if you turn it a couple times that evening? After I heard about my parents experience, I called and spoke with the same manager. So rude, so unapologetic, couldn't care less that he was losing the business of 30 people. Not only would they not rent the banquet room, he also told me they couldn't guarantee a reservation for us in the dining room. WHY WOULD YOU ADVERTISE BOTH OPTIONS FOR LARGE PARTIES ON YOUR WEB PAGE? Seriously, nobody would be mad that they couldn't fit a large party if they didn't say it themselves that they could! I was so disappointed and the manager's snarky attitude didn't help. I told him that we would be taking our business elsewhere and he said ok! He did not care. Unfortunately, not only did Oaken Barrel lose the business of 30 people this weekend, he lost the business of 30 people in the future. We will not be returning. I am a manager of a business as well and I would never DREAM of treating customers with such attitude. That is no way to run a business. That manager needs to learn how to treat clients respectfully and professionally, because he certainly is lacking both. Shame on you Oaken Barrel. Terrible customer service is not acceptable, and from a manager no less!

Had a good burger, service was a touch slow but it was a busy Friday night; I would definitely come back for lunch or dinner on a slower night.

Idaho nachos with taco meat is very good for sharing with a group. The fried chicken salad is very tasty as well. I prefer the stouts and pale ales they serve. They have great seasonal beers as well. The menu has a wide variety including pizza, pasta, burgers, and other sandwiches. They seem to be perpetually understaffed in the bar seating area and have received poor serve there. However, the service in the regular seating area has always been good.

15 years and still going strong. We've been dining & drinking at Oaken Barrel since they opened 15 years ago and it's always been close to our heart. The main reason is definitely for their homemade brews. The Gnawbone Pale, the Superfly IPA and the Snakepit Porter are still some of the best beers in town, even with the influx of so many new microbreweries and brewpubs. The service has always been good even when this place is crowded which is most of the time. Family friendly dining room atmosphere but also 2 bar areas for the 21 & older crowd doesn't hurt business either. And, the beer & food prices are incredibly reasonable. We get kind of bored with the menu because it hardly ever changes. They tweaked the menu a couple of years ago but not enough to make it new and exciting. But, still, the appetizers and sandwiches are all satisfying. The Heartstopper Burger will always remain the best burger in Greenwood. Other menu items that are worth ordering: Idaho Nachos (waffle fried instead of chips), the Reuben sandwich, Cajun Beef Tips appetizer (served with spicy horseradish sauce and pico di gallo), the Beer Battered Tilapia entree and their 7" & 10" gourmet pizzas are actually pretty tasty. Back to their beer, we always make sure to check what seasonals are on tap. Like all brewpubs, you can try a sample before ordering. Really though, most of their beers are definitely worth ordering. By the pint or by the growler.

Excellent food and a good selection of micro brews makes this a great destination. Located just off I-65 and Main St. in Greenwood, In, this restaurant is one of the few you'll find in Greenwood that will make the northsiders a bit jealous. They have out-of-ordinary fair (Idaho Nachos anyone?) as well as the old faithfuls (burgers, steaks, and fish). Their beers are the best you'll find in Indy and the seasonal selections are awesome. This is a place you have to check out!

Mark J.
The Oaken Barrel maintains a very bar-like atmosphere. While many microbreweries come off like restaurants with an oddly triumphant selection of beers, this one feels like a bar that has a more robust menu. What I mean by that is that the lights are darker, conversation is more subdued, and the service can contain a lot of "do it yourself" elements. That's not to say it's bad, this just isn't the kind of place mom and dad would take the kids to. The aforementioned menu contains mostly heavier foods that go well with beer, and, like most places that focus on drinking, there are many European pub-esque dishes. The food is good, it's well-made, and you pretty much know exactly what you're getting when you order it. They don't have a whole lot of specials on their stuff, instead favoring generally lower prices.

YUM My first brewpub experience when I moved to Indy in 94. It's still a great place. Food is excellent with my favorites being the Idaho Nachos and Cajun Beef Tips to start. Always a tough choice. All of the sandwiches are good, so I don't really have a favorite per se. When it comes to entrees, my son loves their ribs. I'm a big fan of the Cajun Jambalaya Pasta and the Shepherds Pie. Another tough one, but you really can't make a wrong choice here. The real reason for all the stars is the craft brewed beer. My favorite is the Double IPA which is a winter seasonal there. When it's not available, there is something else in the seasonal line up that's just as nice. Whether it's a nicely balanced Indiana Amber or a hop bomb like the SuperFly IPA, there is something for everyone who appreciates good beer. The beer garden is also a nice place to enjoy a warm evening with good company and great beer.

As far as Indy brewpubs go, I put this one behind only Brugge. The beers are consistantly good, decently hopped, flavorful and unique. The Porter and Amber are always good selections, and on my last visit, they featured a nitro-stout they named Midnight Oil, and it was one of the best beers I've had at a brewpub, and I've had a ton. The food is also above average. The sandwiches never disappoint, and the ribs are very good, and come clean off of the bone (but are never falling off the bone). The desserts aren't worth your time or calories, however. Have another beer instead. For more details and more area brewpubs, visit: kingsbrewpubtour.com/Web…

This is one of my favorite local places to eat and the beers are always great too! I've been going here regularly for years. Great food, friendly staff. I've never had a bad experience. If you like their beer you can take home a growler. Thursday is a popular night to do this because they offer discounts from regular prices. It's a great place for family dining as well. Highly recommend you give it a try!

So you want great beer, good food, a laid back atmosphere, all for a low price? Hard to find in Indiana, right (especially the good beer part)? Look no further my friend. Oaken Barrel has been one of my favorite restaurants since I was a kid in Indy. The food is excellent (you gotta have the Idaho Nachos!!!) and the beer is the best you can get in the area. If you're new to the craft-brew scene, their RazzWheat is a great gateway beer. Their 6 main-stream brews are all excellent, and they will usually have 2 seasonals on-tap (Make sure you come by in the fall for Apple Buzz). Also, they have a frequenter program where you get a $5 off coupon after 5 visits. Probably the best part is the wait-staff. You can be sure you will be well taken care of here, and don't be surprised if they pull up a chair and talk with you when the restaurant is slow. Also a great place for wedding rehearsals (it's where we had ours) and other get togethers as they have a reservable banquet room. Trust me, Oaken Barrel is definitely worth your time!

Just walked out of Oaken Barrel and felt compelled to yelp about one of the best tenderloins I've had. Now, I'm not from Indiana. I'm from the south. So, I have probably tried tenderloins from about 5 restaurant's over the past couple of years in Indiana. This place has so far made my favorite tenderloin sandwich. I've been told to try a few other places that have pretty good ones, bit until I go to those places, this place is it for me to get my tenderloin fix. Aside from the delicious tenderloin experience, our waitress very friendly and attentive. Great beer selection too!

Been going here for years, have enjoyed every trip, have referred numerous people to this restaurant but after last visit it clear it's time for a change. Food still good but place is run down? Dirty carpet, dingy areas, in dire need of a remodel. Unfortunately several people have told me the same. Please make the area cleaner and more appealing, would love to continue coming here, but until then I will enjoy meals elsewhere.

Very impressed with this place, my girlfriend and I went this evening. We both got the Indiana Amber and loved it. Got also the Idaho nachos with out the taco meat and it was a very good choice, a buddy of mine had the boneless wings with honey sauce. Would highly recommend them. We will be going back to this gem very soon! Great place and we were well taken care of by the staff.! Thanks!

GREAT Beer. Decent food. The raspberry beer is fantastic. The food we found good at times, others just ho-hum. We didn't have a consistent experience with the meals at the restaurant, but constantly good beer. They are better at brewing than cooking. Overall though, good location, and my wife and I would go again if we were in the area, but we would have our expectations set appropriately.

I've been a fan of Oaken Barrel for years. The beer is good... for beer. I'm not a huge beer fan, but I did enjoy the Razz Wheat beer. I used to go once a week after school. That's when I stumbled upon the culinary magic that is Idaho Nachos. Not to be confused with Idpimp Nachos. A little food humor for you.... I digress... If you love nacho nachos... you are going to swoon over these bad boys. Waffle fries (hence Idaho) smothered with all the fixins. Jalapenos, sour cream, cheese, tomato, black olives and onions... and for good measure. I get mine loaded with taco meat. Please trust me when I tell you that two people can split this as a meal and feel like being wheeled to the car. Enjoy your meal ... and libations.

There are times you leave a restaurant and just need to review it. This is one of them. I'm an Indy local, but now live out in Vegas. I came home on vaca and wanted to meet my dad for dinner at a place that had great food, great beer and was kid friendly. For some reason, I remembered Oaken Barrel. I always want to come here but forget so I was very excited that I remembered. First off, they let me make a reservation when I called. I had a larger party and it was going to be a busy Friday night. Second, they put us in a "kid room", which is what we named the room because everyone had kids. As a parent, I want to be next to people who get it. Only other parents can sympathize when my 2 year old loses his mind when the temp drops below 72.4 degrees. Our server, and I hate that I can't remember her name, but she went above and beyond for our service and I can't thank her enough. My daughter wanted scrambled eggs and bacon for dinner. I asked for fries with bacon for her meal. I mentioned that she wanted scrambled eggs but that bacon would be enough. When our food came out, there was a scrambled eggs and bacon on her plate. My daughter yelped with joy and it was awesome. Such a small gesture but it says so much. Thank you for being such a great family place with amazing food. Chili's gets really old PS-- beer drinkers keep your place nice and loud and no one noticed my kids screaming and laughing. Well done! I'm currently enjoying a bottle of takeout Razzwheat as I type this Cheers! See you next time.

Excellent place to go to get away from the Greenwood chains. You can't go wrong with any of their appetizers like the cowboy caviar, Idaho nachos, or dynamite shrimp. The wing sauces here are also excellent. Salads are entree size and are all acceptable. I recommend the Asian honey. They have burgers and pizza but they also have entrees like shepherds pie, fish and chips, and Cincinnati chili. Oaken Barrel had now celebrating 20 yrs. they are one of the original craft breweries in the state of Indiana. Beer is brewed on site. Take home a growler or enjoy a pint.
Psst.. do you know when Apple Buzz is coming out? Have I missed it yet this year? Maybe they'll have some more. Does anyone know Kwang well enough to snag some? All questions you'll hear me start asking around the first of October when the days get shorter and the temperature gets cooler. Oaken Barrel snags some of the cider from Adrian's Orchard and combines it with honey from Greenwood's HooIsYurBee Honey. This results in a tasty tart, dry brew with a 7.8% ABV with an apple-honey aroma. It's great to drink outside on the heated patio while the sun sets after a long day at work. This stuff sells out fast. Seriously fast. If you aren't planning a trip the day you get the email that it's out, you'll be too late. This stuff has a following, and Kwang is a genius for brewing it. For the other 360 days of the year when you can't get Apple Buzz, Oaken Barrel is still a great place for dinner. I've been stuck on the Blackened Ahi Tuna Sandwich with Waffle Fries for years now. I see several other things on the menu that look fantastic, but I always end up with the Blackened Ahi Tuna. Fortunately, I have friends who usually ask for suggestions on what to order, so they get to order the things I want to try, and I get to eat half of their food too. Hey.. you do what you have to do, right?

Excellent food. Tonight we had the ribs which were meaty, fall off the bone and great flavor. The Indiana Amber is smooth, flavorful and had a nice finish. Service is friendly and just the right attention.

Oaken Barrel is best known as one of the first Indy area breweries, and it is a very solid place for locally brewed beer. They have their recipes down to an exact science and you can always count on a good old standby. With so much going on in the brew department, though, I feel like their food often gets overlooked. They have an extensive menu, which usually gives me pause since it's hard for a kitchen to do all that and do it well, but I've never had bad food here. Their German food is particularly good, so if you want sausages, potato salad, and kraut without a hefty price tag this is the place to go. They have a mug club, so there are a lot of regulars. This means that if you sit at the bar you can expect friendly conversation, not just from your server but from the people seated around you as well. Really a neighborhood bar feel in a more well-known establishment. The takeaway: good food, good beer, amen.

The food is great (options for vegetarians - win!) and the beer even better! My only "complaint" is that it can sometimes be super busy, but lets be real, that's a good problem to have. They always seem at least fairly busy because who can resist moderately priced food and beer? No one. I don't always come here to eat, sometimes I'll drop by just to get a growler filled, and it's totally worth it. Glad there is a brewery close to me!

Classic bar food here! They have just about everything to please everyone. They have locally brewed beer and seem to please the avid beer drinkers. Great spot for game days and has a reward card for the local and frequent customer!

Pros: Good beer, good food, good outdoor seating Cons: Very dirty bathroom, beer was served warmer than most places, unimaginative menu After hearing great things about Oaken Barrel, I finally made my way down from Indy to try it. I had heard about their awesome beer and delicious grub for over a year (even though this place has been here forever in restaurant years), so it was on my Indy-are bucket list. I'm quite glad I came by! I came with two friends, and asked the hostess if there was any way to be seated away from lots of children. I was hoping to get my drink on without kids running around, and we were promptly seated on their back patio to enjoy our meal. We were having a great time until it started pouring rain, so our waitress quickly moved us inside. Food was pretty delish. The menu was pretty basic, but it was still good food. Our group enjoyed a pretzel app (great), some ribs and a buffalo chicken sandwich. No complaints about the food, and I'd come back here when I wanted something casual or if I was entertaining a picky eater. The brews? I thought they tasted great, but seemed to be served a bit warmer than I preferred. I believe the consensus was that if the beers were a few degrees colder, they would have been much more refreshing. The women's bathroom was not good. During dinner hours on a Saturday night the restroom had no toilet paper and the trash can was overflowing with paper towels. I informed the hostess, and when I visited the restroom again before I left the problem still had not been remedied. I certainly judge a restaurant by their ability to keep their bathroom clean, because how clean is their kitchen if the trash can't even be emptied?

Yep. Perfect wait service! Idaho nachos divine! Steak cut not amazing, bit bland. But no means terrible! Shrimp wrap sweet and well textured, nice offset of blackbean soup. Again blackbean soup, more FLAVOR please... Perhaps add pepper? Call pepper blackbean soup. Reccomended wine, excellent. Portions were bring it home to mommy, and your baby! Atmosphere quiet to medium noise, lighting, soft to medium, sports screens available to view. A must stop if in Greenwood! Bathrooms could be more well stock, and interior walkpaths swept more... But it's also a greenhouse ya know? So no judging here. Non alcoholic beverage selections also minimal. Nitty gritty: waitress 10, atmosphere 8.5, food 8.2. Js...

I was surprised by the amount food on the large menu as well as the beer selection. There's anything you could want on the menu and when asking what good to our waitress she said everything which is probably true. I got the enchiladas and there were absolutely delicious. The seasonal beers were interesting and I decided to try a Razwheat brew which was pretty good. Definitely a great place for a drink and delicious food.

It's Friday night! We had a 15 minute wait (they which wasn't bad for excellent food and service on a busy night at 6:30pm. We had the bone in filet special with asparagus. It was awesome!! The desert cupcakes were to die for, especially the red velvet! Wow! I give this place 5 stars!!

Went for ribs today as the place is listed as one the best ribs on Southside. My ribs were fatty and had small bone fragments in which I had to dodge. I was disappointed to say the least.

I was in the Indy area for the weekend for a baby shower, and a few of us ended up here for dinner. It seems like a pretty standard-issue bar-grill-brewpub, but I always appreciate local places and especially trying local beer. We came on a busy Saturday and waited around 30 minutes before being seated near the bar. The Oaken Barrel beer had one major disappointment for me: no barrel-aged beers. Come on, it's in your name! No matter. They had a witbier, a raspberry wheat, a saison, a porter and an IPA. I went for the porter, and it was dark, malty and tasty. I should have gone with the "small" (12 oz) pint but the big (16 oz) was so cheap that I felt obliged. (I'm not really sure what, if any, other craft beer they have.) The menu is about what you would expect -- wraps, salads, pizza, burgers, various fried appetizers, the standard Hoosier pork tenderloin. We split some of the soft pretzels as an appetizer. The cheese sauce was very good; the mustard was also tasty but heavy on the horseradish (which got right up into my nose). For my entree I got a buffalo wrap with shrimp instead of chicken and fries. The wrap was tasty -- they ain't fooling on the buffalo sauce -- although the cheese was un-melted and all kind of crowded on one half of the wrap, and it might have been nice to have it a little warmer and spread out/melty. The fries were mighty good, having been beer-battered before frying. One of my friends got a tenderloin and it was indeed much bigger than the bun, though not the biggest one I've ever seen. Prices are low, service was good and the atmosphere is comfortable though nothing special. Next time I find myself near Greenwood, I'd be happy to return.

Like running into that hot cheerleader 17 years after high school. This place had all the ingredients of a great brewery pub, but somewhere along the way they stopped caring. The food line up is 10 years out of date for a brew pub, the chairs wiggle, everything has a glaze of slightly stickiness. Our larger group was served by the bar waitress, and we were largely neglected. Coming from a town with 13 breweries and being a past Great American judge, the experience was horrible (see my photo of the wood roach spotted crawling up the wall). The bright spot? The beer was stable and straight ahead. Still serving a fruit infused wheat and no real IPA on the menu, but everything was tasty. Good for a flight, but not much else.

Great place! Good service. Nice fair prices. Server Julie rocked it out! I'm a German, so tried the local German sausage sampler featuring Claus' local made sausages! Holy crap it was good! Washed down with a Gnaw Bone Pale, then. Snake Pit Porter... Ahhhh Did I mention the service was superb? You gotta try it!

Stopped here as we were passing through from hwy 65. We started off with the Cowboy Caviar nachos which were so yummy. I got the Brewhouse Pot Roast and man was it delicious! The portions were huge and the flavor was great. Only downfall was slow service but it was to be expected on a Sunday night during peak hours.

It was after 8 pm on a Friday night. I had driven all day, non-stop to Indianapolis to visit family. I was famished. After a brief discussion with my folks, we decided on Oaken Barrel Brewing Company for dinner. Oaken Barren Brewing Company is, to my recollection, the first (and only) brewpub on Indy's Southside (okay, technically Greenwood). I'd had tried and enjoyed some of their beers in bottles on multiple occasions, but had never tried it freshly brewed on draft nor had I eaten at their restaurant. OBBC occupies a sprawling space housing the restaurant/pub and its brewing operations. There are separate rooms for the bar and dining although there are plenty of tables in the bar to dine there as well. OBBC was surprisingly family-friendly as I saw more than a few families with young children there. Of course, beer is a father's "little helper". The place was packed and we were informed that it would be a 15-20 minute wait for a table. Not a problem since I could order a beer at the bar while we waited. I went with the Superfly IPA (offered by the pint or 22 oz. glass). It was clean, crisp, hoppy, but not in a smack you across the face way, possessing light citrus notes. It was a very drinkable and enjoyable IPA and at $5.50 for the tall glass, it was a veritable steal. Right at the 15-minute mark, our pager lit up notifying us our table was ready. To put it succinctly, OBBC is definitely not some hoity toity "gastro-pub" serving trendy food to a hipster crowd. It served up the standard bar/restaurant fare, which to be sure was not healthy heart or Weight Watchers friendly...or at least from what I could tell from the menu. Portion sizes were quite generous at a very fair price. I had the Chubby Burger ($8.75), which was true to its name, as it was a 1/3 lb patty topped with bacon, BBQ sauce, cheddar cheese, caramelized potato straws, and bacon dip serve on grilled sourdough bread. The burger was juicy, messy, and flavorful. My only critiques were that I had requested it be cooked Medium, but it came out Medium Rare; and that the sourdough bread, despite being grilled didn't hold up well to the sauces and juiciness of the meat. The burger came with a choice of fries, cottage cheese, cup of soup, coleslaw, or fresh fruity or for a small upcharge, you could substitute onion rings, waffle fries or homemade potato chips. Of course, I chose the least healthy option and had the beer-battered onion rings. The onion rings were crispy, but not overdone, and pretty darned good. Finally, service throughout our meal was friendly and attentive. Hoosiers love their beer and hearty, uncomplicated food. All told, Oaken Barrel Brewing Company gives the people what they want with crowd-pleasing food and drink at a very reasonable price. If you're on the Southside and looking for good craft beer, then I strongly recommend Oaken Barrel Brewing Company.

In town for the race. Went to Yelp to find a place to eat. Based upon reviews we ended up here. Wow. Not one thing to change. Food it amazing. Service exceptional. We had burgers. One with fries the other onion rings. Coated plank fries and battered onion rings. One plain burger and the other served on grilled sourdough with grilled onions. All of it served nice and hot. You can tell they take pride in the quality of the food. Service was really good. Friendly and efficient and a pleasure to converse with. Oh yeah. Good beer too.

The Oaken Barrel is great across the board. On the brewery side of things, the beer tastes great and it's reasonably priced. Their happy hour/daily specials make the deal that much sweeter. I highly recommend trying absolutely everything at one point in time. The food is average pub fare. It doesn't blow your mind, but it doesn't lessen the experience. I recommend trying the wraps, burgers, and pizza. The appetizer menu is also quite extensive and I often enjoy just ordering a bunch of apps with my beer. Added Perk: For the plane nerds out there, the patio out back is right on the approach vector for the Greenwood Airport. Is there anything better than spending the afternoon drinking beer and watching single-engine planes fly by. One of these days, I'll probably turn it into a drinking game.

Meathead not using his inside voice, so I say rather loudly "Jesus was really a Muslim.".... Somehow Cheese Its become the topic of conversation. WTF just happened?

The service was a little disappointing. I sat at the bar, ordered my food and a beer then got up to use the restroom. When I came back, my seat was given away to a couple that came in after I got up and I was forced to sit on the other side of the restaurant. I thought that was rude. However, the food and beer were good!

What can I say about this place? The food, the beer, the atmosphere, it has it all. I ordered the personal sized pizza and an Apple Buzz and boy oh boy was it FANTASTIC. The pizza was done perfectly, and the garlic was fresh. Our server was super nice and made sure we were all taken care of with a smile and her amazing knowledge of beer. The Apple Buzz lived up to its hype. The place was packed and we actually asked to move out to the biergarten to enjoy the nice fall weather. I love this place. I keep going back for their beer, their food specials, and just because it's local beer that won't break your wallet. Be sure to try the Heartstopper Burger! Great place to watch football, have a pint, and enjoy food that is much better than your typical pub fare offerings. May suggest doing a beer mashup of Alabaster and Apple Buzz? AMAZING!

Above average food, good beer, mediocre service. The last several times I've eaten here with friends, our waitress has been cold and short with us. Some of the staff are friendly, but those interactions have been few and far between the others. Food comes in a reasonable time though. Overall, it is a good place to enjoy a beer and/or a meal with friends.

It seems like you can't go wrong with whatever you get here. Tonight we got a hamburger and Reuben, both with fries. They had a seasonal German wheat beer that was excellent. And to top if off the service was perfect.

The beer is the best part of this place, especially the raspberry beer. The food and service are inconsistent. After a few food experiences, we opted to just stop in here to grab some beer from time to time.

Was passing through with work and stopped here for dinner. Wish I lived closer, because this would be a regular stop. Sat down and ordered a Porter (I'm a little disappointed they had no stout available) but given the deliciousness of the Porter, no stout was needed. I'm not a beer snob or connoisseur by any means, the aroma had a candy-like scent to it, and it went down just..... So beautifully. Anyways, I also ordered an appetizer of wings. Now that's well worth it! 10 for 8 bucks, and they were big, meaty, cooked to perfection and had the perfect charred crunch and soft center. Awesome. After another beer, the sausage sampler came out. Again, I'm no connoisseur, but damn! The sauerkraut the sausages were served on was perfect. And the mashed potatoes (or German mashed potatoes rather) were just as good. Well worth the 12 bucks. And the sausages (I forget where the menu said they came from, but it was local) were just as perfect. Friendly service, reasonable prices (2 beers, appetizer, and entree that I couldn't finish (and I like to eat)) and i left with 32 less dollars (less tip) and one full, happy, and content belly. I'll be back ASAP!

Come for the beer!! I had the German Sausage Sampler Entree. Sausage was good. Sauerkraut good but the German Potato Salad was not so German. First batch was cold. Second warmer but lacked flavor. Guest had half rack of dry just okay ribs.

Excellent Brewery in downtown Greenwood. The food is good and the beer is cold and tasty. Service is always great.

I stopped in at OBB Co with a local, not really knowing what to expect. The parking lot was packed (Friday night) and the wait was about 40 minutes, but I was pleasantly surprised. A Great brewery/restaurant atmosphere with solid beer choices and a couple of specialty taps to boot. The prices are comparable to other brew-pubs in the area and offer quite the selection of pub fare. I thoroughly enjoyed the Homemade Chips & Bacon Dip appetizer - BACON CHEESE DIP, WHAT ELSE DO I HAVE TO SAY? The Mesquite-Smoked Ribs were also hitting the mark, very savory and tender. I'd like to make this a Greenwood frequent stop, with beer and eats like this - you can't go wrong. Cheers.

Mediocre food. Decent beer. Terrible service. First off, this place is not even remotely family-friendly. I came here with my family for dinner on a Monday night. Like the half dozen times I'd been before, the hostess and wait staff were extremely rude. When I asked to be seated at a table that would allow me to hook my son's travel high chair on, the hostess rolled her eyes and said nothing as she led us to our table. When I thanked her for accommodating us, she just glared at me and then stomped off. To top it off, the restrooms don't have a baby-changing station. Seriously, Oaken Barrel? Nearly every establishment I've been in has a changing station. I guess the message is pretty clear: families are not welcome here. The pizza I ordered was soggy on the bottom and my husband's order of ribs took an insanely long time to get to our table. The beer is decent (King Rudi is actually pretty great), but Indy has plenty of great craft breweries that are more conveniently located and have better service. In the future, we'll find somewhere else to patronize.

A south side tradition for 20 years. Good food, good prices, and some great beer. Super Fly IPA is one of the state's best. Pick up a 6-pack to take home!

The food was great. The beer was great. The hostess, however, was extremely unfriendly and gave me the impression that she was completely miserable. That is the only thing stopping me from giving the place 5 stars. My girlfriend's first reaction after being seated was 'what's her problem?' I will definitely return- I just hope there's a friendly hostess next time.

Great selection of beers and food but god forbid you come in 1 hour before closing. They are less than subtle about pushing you out the door starting at 9:05 sharp.

Everything I tried at dinner here was pretty darn good. The homemade chips and cheesey bacon dip on the appetizer menu was killer! The pumpkin beer was tasty as well and wished i lived closer to buy it all the time. My husband had the breaded tenderloin, it was a thicker style but it was tender and something I would go back for. It was a little busy, but a good hangout I thought. It was cool seeing planes fly over us in the parking lot.
This place is pretty good. We tried the shrimp wrap with coleslaw and WI burger with homemade chips. Beer samplers were good. I like the amber beer (1st one on the beer list).

One of the original microbreweries in Indianapolis. It's way out in the sticks of Greenwood, but it's worth the journey. The food is pretty good, but the real star is the beer. The brewing operation is tiny (most of their beer is sold on-site), but effective. The restaurant itself is pretty cozy, with the space broken up into different rooms and a small bar in the middle. If the weather is nice, I suggest sitting in their neat biergarten in back.

The Chicken meal listed currently on the Yelp Menu is no longer available, the one with feta cheese. So I tried the Baja Chicken that is new on menu. Blaha would be more appropriate. Actually sent it back and they did deduct from our bill. The Idaho nachos were good. Kids menu was basic, dogs, Chicken strips, etc. Many were coming in to get growlers filled so the beer must be good. Tonight this place was just not for me.

Great beer!
(2)Raina R.
(3)Robert B.
The beer here is very good and brewed completely on premises. All the burgers are good. The tenderloin is better had some where else. Can't go wrong with the ribs and the spicy shrimp is to die for. The only problem with this place is the noise level. When the place is busy, you cannot even hear the person across the table from you.
(3)Chris Y.

(5)Telissa C.
(2)Courtney T.
(4)Jon C.
/sigh.
(3)Thomas C.
(3)Jon A.

(4)Tina D.
Ladies lunch with five kids! Everyone was happy with their food and service. The chili was uniquely spicy and I always love the tuna steak sandwich. Very glad it is back. 11 months ago I wanted it and it was off the menu. We all want to go back!
(4)Dan M.
The beer is good, the food is passable, the service sucks. But I'm still a fan of this easy alternative to highway fast food. Every time I drive south of Indianapolis, I stop here.
(4)T. J.
(4)Benjamin H.
(3)Rachel M.
Went there for dinner and drinks on a Friday night! Service was fantastic and beer was GREAT!! We filled our growler full of beer to take home too. The food was pretty good and dessert was very yummy! We will def be going back!
(5)Charles T.
You really want to be here on Monday night. Best Ribs in Central Indy!

(4)Steve S.
(3)Thomas B.
Had the Cowboy Caviar, it was pretty good but a few of the tortilla chips were chewy. I recommend getting the Hoosier Tenderloin. It was amazing! Not too big and pretty thick. The fries were excellent too! Definitely a great deal for $7.95
(5)Veronica X.
(4)Joanne E.
(4)Matt F.
(4)Tony S.
(5)Chris F.
Get the bacon dip! Food and service is great. We come here just for the bacon dip.
(5)Ken R.

Very nice! I enjoyed it. Good food and good service.

I don't drink, but this is one of the few Independently owned restaurants in Greenwood. The food is all good. I would say that most of it is made there on site. I love the Shepard's pie. If you want to try some good food and keep your money local you cant go wrong here.
(4)Zach R.
(4)Erin M.

(3)Natascha C.
(4)Beth W.
Went to Oaken Barrel because I love micro brews. The beer was alright, I've had better. Also ordered nachos, but instead of chips they used waffle fries. I didn't care for that to much. Maybe next time I'll try a dinner instead of an app. It was a very cool place though. I'd go back!
(4)Robert K.
His Fish & Chips looked really good. .
(4)Randy B.
YOU CAN BUY CARRY-OUT BEER ON SUNDAYS! Awesome stout, bacon cheese dip with home-made chips is a meal in itself.
(5)Megan C.
(3)Donna M.
The place where my drink cup never runneth dry! LOL.. Great atmosphere.. friendly staff and good food. Try their bacon chips and dip.. you won't be disappointed. Good quality food and a huge selection of great beer made on the premises.
(4)Thu N.
(4)Niles I.
Great food, great beer. I've seen the same faces here, some over a decade, so it must also be a great place to work.
(5)Andrew M.
(5)JR J.
Good food, and better beer. Get the sampler and try all the beers that they have to offer. Its a great atmosphere and nice portions. If you're in Greenwood and want to try something other than the chains this is your place.
(4)Don B.
Homemade chips and Bacon dip are the bomb. Burgers are some of the best around. Service could be alittle faster. But it is still a great place to eat.
(5)Daniel M.
I really don't understand all of the hype about this place. We did not drink the beer, so that may have rendered our taste buds, but the burgers were bland and the staff was slow to respond. We probably will not be back.
(3)Chris H.
Great food, great beer! I've been a couple of times and I'm a fan. The space is a bit crowded but the food and drink make up for the close quarters. If you are a beer fan I recommend the sampler. The country fired chicken is also really good.
(4)Jessica F.
(5)Beth F.
Meh. It's just okay. Nothing special. Food is edible. Beer is drinkable. It is a nice local alternative to hitting up Applebee's and the like. Casual, affordable.
(3)Kelsey S.

(4)Larry T.

(4)Mark J.
(4)Mike M.
Good food, good service, good atmosphere, and better cold BEER
(4)Lesley B.
Have been eating here for years...just recently went and the food was horrible! The beer is great...I ordered the fish and chips and the fish was just awful....the service was bad and slow....what happened here?
(1)Rob H.
(5)Ken K.

Very enjoyable place! No smoking, great beer and the food we had was tasty. The Indiana Amber was my favorite of the sampler.
(5)Linda R.
(5)Carl P.
(5)Adair M.
(5)Gary M.
(2)Dan L.
Thanks!
(5)Adam R.
(4)Kerry B.
This food is some of the best. It is always fixed right and they throw in new items from time to time.
(4)Amber P.

(5)Rob S.
(5)Sarine J.
This is one of the most depressing places I've ever been too. This restaurant/brewery was diner style but there was nothing welcoming about it. It also had a smell that turned me off. My fiancé and I sat at the bar and ordered the snake pit porter and the kang rudi wheat, which were decent. The waitress working at the bar didn't ever have a smile on her face and was also not welcoming. However, we both felt very uncomfortable by the place that we drank our beers quickly and immediately left. Not what we expected :(

Psst.. do you know when Apple Buzz is coming out?
(5)Tom M.
Excellent food. Tonight we had the ribs which were meaty, fall off the bone and great flavor. The Indiana Amber is smooth, flavorful and had a nice finish. Service is friendly and just the right attention.
(5)Laura M.
(4)Erin C.
(4)Gretchen R.
Classic bar food here! They have just about everything to please everyone. They have locally brewed beer and seem to please the avid beer drinkers. Great spot for game days and has a reward card for the local and frequent customer!
(4)Kinsey C.

I love this place. The have great food all around. They have great bar food and great pasta.

Js...

Great food, love this place, but the worst service I've ever had here. Do NOT sit in Lisa L's section if you want service.

Back again. Four of us ate dinner here last night. I had the chubby burger. Ordered it cooked medium. BBQ, bacon, dressing. Very good meal. The other three in our party all enjoyed their meals. Fresh and tasty! Local brew was very good.

(5)Melanie R.

Come in on Mondays for ribs. Thursday for $5 growler fills. Great beers. Great place!

(4)Jim J.
(4)Caitlin T.
Great selection of beers and food but god forbid you come in 1 hour before closing. They are less than subtle about pushing you out the door starting at 9:05 sharp.
(3)Kate D.

To say I was disappointed is an understatement!! My fiancé and I used to eat at Oaken Barrel all the time. Their chicken enchiladas were fantastic and they had a cheese tortellini that was to die for! We hadn't been there for a couple of months and called to order carry out recently. We ordered the enchiladas and tortellini.... We get home and we have ravioli and ONE enchilada??? We call to ask how that happened. We were told that the person who took our order was a new hostess and that they no longer have the tortellini and instead they have ravioli... Really?? So the hostess wasn't bright enough to know that tortellini and ravioli are two different dishes? And apparently now their enchiladas come with either a single or double enchilada instead of the two that always came with it before, yet no one asked which we'd prefer. Luckily we live close by and went and picked up a new order.... No discount or anything though. Fast forward 2 weeks... We give them another try. We look online at the menu and order our carry out. Per the menu we were ordering ravioli w/ marinara sauce and a buffalo chicken wrap. My fiancé picked it up (didn't check it there --- grrr!) and brings it home. We have ravioli with ALFREDO sauce and a breaded chicken sandwich! Naturally I am ticked and I call the restaurant. I'm informed by the manager that the only excuse they can give for the sandwich is that "they are busy" and in regards to the wrong sauce on the ravioli... "The online menu must be wrong, they switched the ravioli sauce several months ago." We go yet again to pick up the order assuming we will definitely get a refund or at least a discount.... Nope! In fact, the new order was cheaper than our original order (my fiancé switched out the ravioli) and we didn't even get the price difference back. We will NEVER ever go back here again!!!

This place is pretty good. We tried the shrimp wrap with coleslaw and WI burger with homemade chips. Beer samplers were good. I like the amber beer (1st one on the beer list).
(3)Peter P.
(3)Theresa J.
