I've always been a huge fan of this restaurant. My wife and I have been coming here for years. My kids love the show they put on while cooking and enjoy the food as well. Sometime they run into issues but every restaurant does from time to time. Definitely with checking out if your in the area.

I will never go to this place again! The chief (cook) was a joke! There was NO entertainment involved. It was very obvious he didn't want to be there. Bad quality food, and so called chief was so confused on who ordered what! They made a big ordeal over steak and scallops-and not being able to get the two together! This place is horrible! -can't believe it's still open. Waste of time and money!

Clean. Pleasant atmosphere. Great with kids. Great food. You won't leave hungry. In fact, you'll likely leave with a take home box.

Not a good night for house of Tokyo. Don't know if they are skimping on food quality or what now but both the shrimp and lobster tasted funny and the lobster tasted really fishy. Not good. The filet was fine though.

I've been coming here for 8 years and never once did I leave dissatisfied in any way shape or form. The people are extremely kind and have always taken great care of me and my friends/family and to say this is my favorite place is an understatement. Thank you for your consistently great food and service

The food was average Hibachi. Nothing too spectacular. If you're looking for a showing don't go here. There is ZERO interaction with the person cooking in front of you! I suggest you take a little trek up to 82nd Street and go to Sapporo where they do the food and the show right!

Been to the Japanese steakhouse once. I wasn't overly impressed. It is your typical Japanese steakhouse food, except they don't seem to do it as well as other places. The chef didn't seem to interested in interacting with the customers and trying to make the experience exciting, which is really why you pay 20 to 30$ for a steak dinner at one of these places. The waiter was ok, seemed to be on top of things. The best part of the meal was the house salad dressing, which is available at either Marsh or Kroger (can't remember which grocery store I saw it at). Overall a major disappointment, the reason they receive the second star is for the salad dressing and the waiter.

I don't know. Maybe it's nostalgia, but this is the only place I'll go for hibachi/teppanyaki. Most Japanese and sushi places offer a very watery ginger salad dressing. This place, it's ginger... it's smoky... it's creamy... it's DELICIOUS. That and the nostalgia are what keep me coming back. I knocked a star off simply because quite a few years ago, we came here for New Year's Eve dinner. We sat, we ate, we went with a large group of people and we wanted to sit and converse for a little while after dinner... I mean - that IS why people go to dinner (other than food, right)? We were promptly told by the host/waiter that we needed to leave because they had a wait and they needed to get others seated. We literally hadn't taken our last bite more than 2 minutes before that. Hopefully they've changed that part of their service. I ate there last night for my boyfriend's birthday dinner. I had the filet and shrimp and he got some chicken/shrimp/steak combo. Both of us left full and with about 2 meals of leftovers as well. The food was flavorful. Not too salty at all - was flavored just right.

House of Tokyo is one of my mom's favorites. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same. I started with a lackluster yet sufficient sushi sampler. I had to wait until my soup salad and sushi were almost finished before getting my beer. the teriyaki chicken was good but nothing out of the ordinary. My daughter's filet was already cubed and contained quite a bit of fatty pieces, unacceptable for the filet up - charge. all in all a pleasant family dinner, but I will let mom stick with the lunches she raves about.

This was one of the worst hibachi grills I've been to. You go to these places not only for the food, but for the show as well. The cook did nothing but cook the food. When we got the food it was way to salty. Shortly after my fried rice was cooked I realized I wanted more. The waiter asked for the cook to make me more, but the cook actually argued with the waiter right in front of everyone. When I went through the entrance to leave I saw all the employees who weren't doing anything just sitting around by the entrance chatting and browsing through their phones. I thought this was very unprofessional and the management should have done something about it. If you are in the mood for Japanese hibachi then go somewhere else.

We come here A LOT, and I can say the following, since I'm a regular: Food is pretty good. We like it. It varies by chef. No, there's not much in the way of "entertainment," but, I'm dang near 30 years old - I've seen all the tricks, I just want my food! Service is hit and miss, but luckily, we are so regular here, they know us by name and take good care of us!

I had been trying to go here for a while but my wife never wants to go. Finally I went here on a Tuesday night with a friend. Walked in and was not greeted by anyone. Finally someone appears, sits us at a table, and takes our drink and appetizer order. Ten minutes go by before the server came back with a water and ice tea. Both of our drinks smelled funny, maybe from whatever they wash them in. Two people walk in after we got our drinks and they were also confused by not being greeted.. They also get seated with us. They order beers and get them almost instantly.. Server then takes all of our dinner orders. I order chicken and steak and added an order of shrimp. My friend ordered steak yakisoba and shrimp. After ordering we waited, and waited, and waited. I finally got a refill on my water after it being empty for 10-15 min. By now I had literally forgotten about my tempura shrimp appetizer.. It took 45 minutes. Even the people across the table were surprised because I had ordered it before they had sat down. Then came dinner.. Aside from the chef putting my friends yakisoba noodles on my plate because he wasn't paying attention to who ordered what, the rest was downhill from there.. Steak was ordered as medium, it was fully cooked through. The chicken was cooked half decent, shrimp could have used another minute on the grill and the rice was ok.. Unfortunately I couldn't taste the meat or shrimp due to all of the teriyaki sauce that was used. The steak was smothered in it, the chicken was smothered in it, the shrimp was smothered and the vegetables too. The meal was $72 before tip and I felt robbed even with my friend picking up the tab. Last night I took my wife and son to Kabuto. It was cooked properly and was only $55 for two chicken/shrimp combos, chicken kids meal, and shrimp tempura appetizer. House of Tokyo lost a customer on the first visit. I'll stick with Kabuto and Benihana. Huge disappointment.

We ordered take out. My first sign should have been when I walked in at 6pm (prime dinner time during the week) and one hibachi grill was half full!... But I gave it a chance... They had no idea what the white sauce was when I asked for extra (you know the white sauce they have at every hibachi place)... I paid $35 for two meals and left. Got home and was so disappointed. We took two bites and threw the rest away. It was disgusting! No other word to describe. Don't ever go here.

Most people are partial to their Japanese Steakhouse that they live by or frequent and are use to those flavors so when they go somewhere else they usually don't like the changes. I have been to probably 20 different Teppanyaki Grills and almost all of them around Indianapolis. They are always hit or miss with the chefs being entertaining. Go on a weekend or call ahead and request to be entertained if you are on date or have kids the owners are super nice and I'm sure they would do it for you. Not sure why they have stopped doing this it seems like. - HOT has the best fried rice anywhere. Sticky rice with egg only and not drenched. - best yakisoba noodles anywhere "which you can buy at the international market for $2 on 38th and 65.... You're welcome! - Salad dressing is not ginger and a thicker mayo dressing and is an acquired taste but I have grown to love it and you can buy at Omalia's in Greenwood I believe still. Hit or miss for people. - Soup is always hot and has a little more flavor than most places. I add soy to this and the salad. Stick with filet mignon, chicken teriyaki "which is not sweet covered in sauce like most places," Shrimp, or scallops. Some people rave about Japanese pizza thats made with egg. I have never tried it. I love the ginger sauce and shrimp sauce. If you like or are partial to the mayo sauces from other places get a side of the salad dressing and maybe put a little ginger sauce or hot mustard in it. My normal order is Filet and Shrimp Yakisoba with an extra side of fried rice. I may spend $30 but I eat left overs at least once if not twice. If you want sushi don't go to a Japanese steakhouse. Thats like going to a sushi restaurant and ordering Teppanyaki. To the guy below me that said "well its better than takeout". Its Japanese not Chinese. You should really have to take a test to get onto Yelp.

I wish I could rate this higher as I had high expectations. First, we had a reservation for 8 p.m. We weren't even seated until 8:30, even after having had asked the staff several times how long of a wait it would be. It took 15 minutes for the waiter to get our drinks and our food wasn't started until 9:20. There was NO entertainment during the Hibachi. The staff was not excited to be there and it was not what I expected in comparison to other Hibachi restaurants. The steak was mediocre and the fried rice only had butter and salt on it. Not a bad meal if it was $8, but not worth the $100 bill we left with.

Great food. Friendly place. We frequent this location often. Favorite is the veggie tempura.

I think this place has the best food quality of any of the the Japanese steakhouses. The chefs sometimes lack a little of the showmanship compared to others but the important thing is they know how to actually cook a filet MEDIUM RARE. I prefer lunch here seeing as how it's about half the cost. I typically order the filet and shrimp combo and sometimes add an order of yakisiba planning on having some tasty leftovers. Sushi is good but can typically take a while to arrive. Overall, my fave Japanese restaurant in Indy.

This place was a colossal disappointment. I am, as a rule, a fan of anything flamboyant. Especially when said theatrics are entirely unnecessary. Therefore, I am a fan of Japanese barbeques, which are typically home to over-the-top flourishes, juggled utensils, food flicked around, and eggs opened in midair. But not at this location. The guy got up and cooked our food. It was entirely pointless that we got to watch him. I've seen people mixing ingredients before, and do not consider it high entertainment (at least not high enough to justify $15 an entrée). What's more is that the food was strictly mediocre. Better than take-out, sure, but not by a whole lot. To compound this, the guy made me the wrong meal: he added teriyaki to my chicken. When confronted on the issue, he offered me some steak, about ten pieces, and considered us settled up. Plus, I never got a refill on my Diet Coke. I hate to say it, but avoid this place. It's overpriced, uninteresting, the service is terrible, and the food disappointing. It didn't have dirt on the floors or anything though. That's worth something, I guess.

This place is fantastic. Been going on a regular basis since they were in their original location. Food is always fantastic, service is usually good, but can be subpar when they are swamped. The owner is very nice and the cooks recognize us when we eat there. I've yet to find another hibachi that tastes this good!

While the food was, ummm, ok, definitely not what one expects for this type of Japanese restaurant, actually quite boring if not for the nice folks that sat with us. Stick to the menu and if you want sushi, best to go elsewhere.

Let me start by saying how much I truly love this place. I've been going to the House of Tokyo since it first opened a little ways from where it stands now. The owners are extremely hospitable and care immensely about the food they present to their guests. I've tried many different Japanese Steakhouses in my travels, and I've found that there is truly no place like home. They have highly skilled chefs, and the food cannot be compared with any other Japanese Steakhouse I've visited. Most importantly, they are consistent, clean, and reasonably priced. You get about the same menu items as most of the usual JS's, but the sauces, dressing, and soup they have here are far and above the rest. I'm constantly searching, but I can't find ANY that are better than the House of Tokyo. It's simple, and the fresh flavors can speak for themselves. I will always look forward to going to to the House of Tokyo, and I always have. They treat you like family there, and once you experience it, you'll compare everywhere else to it.
