Best chicken you can find. Coleslaw is great as well. Love to go here when we go home. I would recommend this place to anyone who loves fried chicken.

Some of the best chicken ever. Their sides aren't great, but they get 5 stars for their chicken and cheap beer. Go early for dinner or you'll wait a long time.

I am always looking for really good fried chicken. When someone told me about "some little place in Enochsburg that has great chicken," I knew I needed to drive there and try it for myself. It took about 45 minutes to drive there from Columbus and I had very high hopes for The Fireside Inn. When we found it, there were cars everywhere and I assumed that meant that it was really good food. After eating there, I now assume that there are no other restaurants within 100 miles of there. We had to wait about 10 minutes to get seated...no problem. The four of us were shown to the table and we ordered Iced Tea and some fried green beans. Then we ordered a whole chicken, some chicken tenders and the cod dinner. I felt sorry for the one who ordered the cod. It was about an inch thick and about two inches square. There were three pieces. Very greasy and heavy. The fried chicken was greasy, but other than that it was okay. I would even say it was the best part of the meal. The green beans were bland, the mashed potatoes were bland, and the french fries were cold and old. The server was very nice and attentive. When I paid the $44 check, I had to go to the bar and wait in line for the bartender to collect money from three people ahead of me. It was just a poorly thought out system. On the way home, I felt like I had been taken. I had such high hopes driving there and then I felt so let down driving home. And I had spent $44 plus a $10 tip, and a 1/4 of a tank of gas to drive there and back. It is still painful thinking about it. If I am going to drive that far, I'll drive on into Oldenburg and get some really good chicken. Don't waste your time or your gas on the Fireside Inn.

Okay here is the short and skinny of the Fireside Inn or as so many have called it "The Chicken Place". It is hands down chicken. It isn't KFC chicken or Grocery Store Chicken, it is real whole chicken. Imagine what chicken is supposed to be, what it use to be. Before all the crap they load chickens with now a days. It is the best chicken I have ever had. The other stuff is good, not great but what do you go to a chicken place for? The sides or the chicken? There is a level of nostalgia about this place. It is exactly what a restaurant use to be. Where they actually take care of you. The system hasn't changed since I was a little kid. It will make you step back in time before every one became in such a hurry. Before everything became automatic. It's a place of strength and substance. Not cheap and fast. But inexpensive and delightful. Yes it may be out of the way. Yes it may be old. Yes it may be greasy. But with all that said it is by far one of the last great American restaurants in this country.

The best fried chicken in the area. Always consistently good. I love the rustic decor. I've tried time and again to get the recipe but it is a closely guarded secret; I've come close, no cigar! Great chicken and a beautiful drive to get there! Fr. Dave
