Traveling from Cincinnati back home to Avon, IN we looked for a place in Greensburg. With all the five star reviews on Yelp we couldn't pass it up. As soon as you open the door I knew I wouldn't be disappointed. The smokey delicious smell let you know you were one for something special. Pulled pork is almost always my go to BBQ meal but as I saw a tray of the baby baby ribs I knew that was my choice. We each ordered the baby back rib combo. I also had to try the smoked chicken wings. A pound of ribs was way more than I could handle but I happily ate them the next day for lunch. For once left overs didn't get tossed. The ribs were meaty, tender and smokey. The sauce came on the side and I had one of the cream sauces. It was so differently delicious - such nice change from regular. The chicken wings were to die for. In fact I think an order of wings and some slaw would be a perfect meal. And if moth watering delicious food isn't enough to make a restaurant a success the service is top notch. There was one goal amongst everyone there - make sure you walked out the door wanting to come back. And let me tell you. We will be back.

Stopped by for lunch on the way from Cincy to Indy. The location right on the town square is very quaint small town Americana (in a charming, not run down way). The dining area is fairly small, decor walks a good balance between modern and BBQ. Large screen TVs keep guys and kids entertained. You order at the counter. Choice of pulled pork, brisket or chicken. Six BBQ sauces ("Kansas City..." In most names). Baskets, sandwiches and bulk takeout. I was torn between cheesy grits (sample was delicious) and a smoked potato (smoked for 4 hours - where else will you find something like that? My basket consisted of a large smoked potato piled high with baked beans, pulled pork with sweet BBQ sauce and cheese. Delicious! All subtle smokiness and brown sugar sweetness. Sweet tea just the right flavor to cool down the spices. By the time I was done with just half of my spud, there was no room for desert, otherwise would have sampled the six flavors of ice cream served.

Stopped in for a quick lunch on the way to Cincinnati and were quite pleased with the food. We were quickly greeted and asked if we had ever eaten here before. When we said no we were given a quick rundown of the menu. The menu is handwritten on dry erase boards and slightly difficult to follow so the guidance was definitely helpful. I would highly recommend the pulled pork sandwich topped with cole slaw. The Mac and cheese had a lot of flavor and tasted much better than ii had assumed based on its appearance. The baked beans and other sides we tried were also very good. I thought the prices were fair for the large portions and considering you can't get fast food for under $20 these days that's right around what our lunch for two cost here. I would definitely return to Carriage on the Square when passing through Greensburg.

Carriage on the Square Smoke House was our lunch destination as we left the main road en route to Grand Rapids. Other Yelp reviews helped me make the decision to try it out. It was a toss up between this place and a place up the street that also had good reviews. In 1980, I quit eating all beef and pork. It is only recently that I have begun to introduce them back into my diet. I have found that the one thing I love, most of all, is pulled pork, which I never even used to eat prior to my almost 35 year boycott of all things pork/beef. As I sat on the sidewalk outside of the Smokehouse devouring my pulled pork sandwich, slaw and cheesy grits, I kept nodding my head and talking to my food (as I am prone to do when it is really good). "I am so glad we didn't go to the other place." The chef/manager/owner (not sure which one) came out to ask how everything was. My husband, who had the brisket sandwich with horseradish sauce, let him know that it was excellent - very tender and flavorful. I'd never tasted brisket before, so I gave it a try. I was good. But not like that pulled pork! I got it with the mustard sauce, but found that I used very little of it because it was so good on its own. In short, I heartily recommend Carriage On The Square Smoke House.

I stopped in here for dinner on a Tuesday night with some co-workers. The place was pretty busy, and it seemed like one guy was doing all the work. He was very nice and helpful, and he later told us that he was the owner, as well as the chef who makes all the sauces, mac and cheese, grits, sweet tea, etc. So I forgave him that the service was a little slow because the food (and his kindness) certainly made up for it. I got a pulled chicken sandwich with some of his sweet bbq sauce, a side of mac and cheese, and a sweet tea. It was all super delicious. The owner came over to see how we were doing, and told us all of the meat came from a farm the town over. It is nice to see how most of his food is locally sourced. I will 100% be back next time I am in town.

The Smoke House is an excellent and quaint restaurant. We had a party of six and we all had something different from delicious brisket, to the best nachos ever, to pulled chicken sandwiches. I was hoping to try the ribs but they had sold out before we got there, my loss I think. A very nice variety of sauces and you can try more than one if you like. The sides were very good, I had the beans which were very tasty. We had a table on the sidewalk out front and it was so nice on a warm summer evening. Lots of families and couples were part of the crowd and everyone seemed to be enjoying the food too. Good food, good atmosphere, good company....can't beat it!

DELICIOUSNESS! Had the ribs - perfection. Great cheesy grits and spicy sauce. And wonderful service. Great to have this choice in the "historic" and cute downtown. We recommend!! (Someone was having their loaded - gigantic - baked potato, with baked beans, pulled pork and cheese. Looked amazing.)

I ate here when I was staying in Greensburg a year or so ago. I had the pulled pork sandwich. The portion was huge and the taste was excellent. You order your meal at the counter and the girls behind the counter were great at helping pick out items I would like, as well as the the particular BBQ sauce that I liked. The restaurant was very clean and the BIG Screen TV's are a nice touch. This would be a good place to go for a sporting event with friends if you like great barbecue and an excellent view of the game.

This is my first post but have used yelp all the time to find those little gems. This is a great one. It has great barbecue with a very smoky taste. You get to pick the sauces ( I tried the Carolina mustard) and as other have said the cheesy grits are awesome. Definitely try this one!

1st review ever, Best BBQ I've ever had. Owner and staff friendly as well.

By far, without a doubt, the best ribs I have ever had in my life. They only have them after 5pm. Just buck up and order them. I also get this place for lunch about once a month. I order a walking or a running pony depending on if I'm in the mood for spicy or not. It's just some chips, BBQ pork, and shredded cheese and it's fantastic. I know that sounds a lot like nachos but it's not I promise. They also have great potatoes and for a side I get the cheesy grits. I hate grits by the way but I love these. They also do a good job with horse radish if that's your thing. Other than the ribs, there are two things that set this place apart for me. 1. You can enjoy a sun king brew with your food in a CLEAN restaurant. 2. Hans, the owner, will thank you every single time for coming in while he serves up your food. I honestly don't think it matters when you pay, sometimes I pay right after I order my food, sometimes I wait until I'm finished. Just depends on if I plan on drinking more than one beer or how busy they are helping people.

My favorite BBQ place anywhere in the country. Enough said coming from a southerner.

Stopped in to get lunch for the first time today. I have to say I will be back. I got pulled pork with sweet bbq sauce and mac & cheese. Both were excellent, and the mac & cheese was the best I have ever had. Great food. Friendly people. Highly recommend.

Living in Chicago it goes without saying that there's great food. I think the ribs here are better than most places in Chicago..this is a pleasant surprise.

Excellent food, atmosphere, and service! Vast selection to satisfy any palate of barbeque. I would have preferred to have a 2,3,4 'meat platter' to sample the various, however, I named to 'build' my own of which worked out; Ala cart. All in all.....worth the trip! Owner / Operator takes great pride....and it shows! By the way....the smoked corned beef was EXCELLENT! I eat all without bread of which (the bread) is what I've seen, excellent too!

I love this place! Great Ribs! and the service is always freindly. They owner has catered to our company and the portions were more than fair and the food is always fresh. The potatoes are the best. they are a meal in their self. I would recommend this BBQ to anyone. Keep up the good work!

Great management. Friendly and accommodating. I am obsessed with their ribs - sticky slightly sweet glaze on perfectly tender ribs served in generous portions. My only complaint is that the sides are slightly lacking. Would love to see a crispy boardwalk style fry here.

I've heard a little about this place, and I am the first to say BBQ is not my favorite meal. I think I may have been converted. I had the Baker, cheesey grits, pulled pork, coleslaw, and choice of sauce. I asked the owner Hans what he suggested for sauce, his sweet sauce over the pork, and topped it with creamy buffalo sauce. Hell yes this man got my attention. Make the drive food from scratch and happy people.

I'm a Michigan resident visiting quaint little Greensburg on business. A colleague in town recommended this place. I'm a big BBQ fan having sampled among the country's best in Kansas City and St. Louis (still wanting to try Texas BBQ but haven't been down there yet). Let me just say that this place is GREAT! You order at the counter reading off hand written menus overhead. The owner did a really good job giving me the options and showing me what I'd be getting. The seating room is plentiful and TV's abound overhead. I ordered ribs, brisket and cheesy grits. Topped them with mild and spicy Kansas City sauce. The brisket was silky smooth with a "less is more" approach. It was light on seasoning but pure in taste. I could enjoy the meat the way it was meant to be tasted. I did dip it in the sauce to zest things up but it could have easily flown solo. Now the ribs... OMG! Unreal!! Sweet glazed, fork tender, fall-off-the-bone, moist and perfectly charred on the edges. Just the ribs themselves were spectacular. Put the BBQ sauce on them and I was in BBQ heaven. This could be the best BBQ ribs I've ever had! And I'm a big BBQ fan. All I can say is, "you just HAVE to try this!!" The cheesy grits complemented everything really well. They added some carbs to an otherwise manly man meat meal. It was wholesome and tasty. And it provided the break I needed in between mouths full of crazy good ribs! If you're in Greensburg or in the Indy area, give this place a go. It will not disappoint!

Wow wow wow! Truly a fantastic find. We are a group of 4, traveling from North Carolina and Florida to Canada. We've decided to drive rather than fly so we could experience the travel whether it be good or bad. Our first day on the road has all been good and what we experienced at Carriage on the Square put the day over the top. We all tried different items from the small but amazing menu. We could not say more about the flavors perfectly blended and cooked to perfection. We were speaking with Hans who is the chef owner. It is refreshing to find an entrepreneur with fresh ideas, attention to detail and pride of ownership. Cheers to you Hans

Excellent BBQ - had the pulled pork sandwich with spicy KC sauce. Sauce is slightly spicy and smoky, with a slow burn. Pork is delicious, moist, tender, flavorful, and plenty of it. Had some baked beans, very good. Great service. Liftoff beer went well with dinner.

The perfect pit stop en route to Cincinnati. Loved their new take on nachos - the pony. Kettle chips + beef brisket + cheese + horseradish cream sauce. My, oh my, sugar cream pie! That was delicious. I am also a sucker for cheesy grits (I took a bit of cheese from my pony and put in my grits: winning decision). Great smoked flavor and small town hospitality.

Great BBQ joint right on the square in Greensburg. The drab exterior belies the ultra-modern sleek interior. Once you step inside, you're greeted by the owner who directs you to the menu board above the counter (you order here). Super friendly service. They weigh the meats in front of you on an electronic scale to assure that you get the right amount. Amazing baked beans. Maybe the best I've ever had. Great smoke on the pulled chicken. Vast array of regional sauces to please the palate of every BBQ snob. Also, if you pay cash, you get a 5% discount. The next time I'm in Greensburg I'll be sure to return. I might make a special trip. Closed on Mondays and they close early (4:30 PM) on Sundays.

It was a pleasant surprise to see this BBQ place in my old home town. The best part is the food was great. Brisket was excellent. I also loved the mustard BBQ sauce with it. Slaw and mac & cheese was very good. Wife had Pulled pork and it was good. We will go back when in town.

My wife and I have stopped in several times. Hans recommended the ribs last night. They were awesome. If you're on the square at meal time, you gotta check this place out.
