We go every weekend for the breakfast buffet. It is delicious, I Love that I can order eggs and toast from the kitchen and that is included in the buffet and the full salad bar is also included! The servers are all very nice and so is the manager. You will not find a better spot in greenfield for breakfast!

Been here a few times. Never been real impressed. Food is very plain tasting. The soft drinks always taste flat. The silverware is dirty. The prices are reasonable price.

Jim Dandy's is decent, you just have to know what to order. The all you can eat salad bar and buffet is pretty good; the salad bar is very basic, but fresh. The best thing they have on buffet is broasted chicken, mashed potatoes, and fried biscuits with apple butter. From the menu, I really like the roast beef Manhattan (old school diner food) or their tenderloins. We don't eat there often, but you can get seated quickly, and service is great. I give it four stars because they do an excellent job of accommodating large groups and are reasonably priced. They have a back area where they will set up tables, and the server they assign does a great, great job. No matter the size of your group, they are accommodating...I do call ahead for groups over 15.

The family and I were in Greenfield near dinnertime and the hubs said he'd heard good things about this place so we decided to check it out. Kind of wish we'd just grabbed something at a drive through. Bottom line, the food wasn't great and seemed a bit high for what was offered (the sandwiches don't even come with a side). And the service was painfully slow.

We don't go here any more. Food is not prepared well. Price is high for what you get. Salad bar items not cold. Hot item. Not got.

ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING. I have a friend that wanted another job with a shift or two a week and she quit a week after getting hired. All of the reviews stating that the meat tasted off are because they willingly use expired meat here. On top of that, there is a complete lack of sanitary practices. Avoid it like the plague, unless you are actually interested in catching the plague.

We were in Greenfield for the morning and decided to pick this joint for breakfast. We figured it was a family restaurant, local, and had been in the area for a long time so it must be good right? WRONG! The breakfast menu is little and consists of the usual: eggs, bacon, pancakes, and biscuits. They feature a 'breakfast bar' so we decided to just go with that. The pancakes on the bar were rock hard and were the worst I have ever seen and tasted! The sausage was odd and looked odd and just tasted weird. The rest was tolerable but for the price tag is wasn't worth it. A free continental breakfast at a hotel would have been 10 times better than this! Just awful. The service on the other hand was great. Our waitress was wonderful. Quick on refills and checked on us frequently. I felt bad that she was stuck working at this place. I would NOT recommend a visit to Jim Dandy Family Restaurant because it is far from dandy.

I don't quite understand the number of bad reviews of Jim Dandy's. My wife and I eat here on occasion and have never had a bad experience. The wait staff is always friendly, courteous and attentive. The food, though admittedly not gourmet, is just good all-American diner type cuisine. Sandwiches DO come with a side and their salad and soup bar is well stocked with a number of items. The weekend breakfast bar is the best and goes well past noon...sometimes past 2:00 for service. A great option for waking up late and getting brunch. It's a great place to remember the kind of establishments you used to grow up with. I would definitely recommend.

This place is just OK. Nothing to go on about but at the same time I really dont have anything bad to say about it. I remember going here when I was a child and I loved their breakfast buffet. Now that is a different story. It's not bad, dont get me wrong, its just not amazing either. I will say the service has always been nice and tentative to my needs.

Have you ever found yourself going someplace out of a sense of nostalgia only to find yourself mumbling as you leave "I guess it's really true that you can't go home?" Such was my experience at Greenfield, Indiana's location of Jim Dandy Family Restaurant, a three-location mini-chain that used to be far more prevalent in Indiana and, at one point, used to be a regular stop for me as I frequently travel around Indiana by wheelchair for charity. Over the years, it seems like the Jim Dandy name has slowly faded into oblivion and today's visit to Jim Dandy was a perfect example of why this may very well be for the best. Jim Dandy was always good for simple, home-cooked meals. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner throughout their business hours and offer everything from basics like burgers, tenderloin, various melts, and others to dinner-time meals like manhattans, chicken, spaghetti, meatloaf, fish, and other meals. Additionally, they have a buffet for $9.99 that features three meats, salad, and soup. It seems the meats vary, but this evening's would have been fish, chicken, and shrimp. Most of the sandwiches are in the $4-6 dollar range without a drink and without sides. You can make it a basket for $2.99 more that includes fries and coleslaw. As you drive up to Jim Dandy, the first thing you are likely to note is that the place actually does look run down. It's in a free-standing building and its awning is disheveled and torn. The inside isn't necessarily dirty, but it simply has a heavily "lived in" look that will likely have you checking your silverware to make sure they actually washed it. They do offer clearly marked accessible parking and a curb cut onto their sidewalk. As you head in their glass door (they have two), you arrive at a host area. Today, it had a sign that said "please seat yourself." Of course, they also had a sign that said "No shirt. No shoes. No service." As a footless guy, this always makes me laugh. In case you're wondering, they did serve me. Heather was my server and she was friendly enough, though it seemed like most of my service actually came from someone else. This included my always desired iced tea refill, though I give this other server credit for offering me a cup so that I could take my refill to go. I ordered the hand-breaded tenderloin at $5.99 and made it into a basket for the additional $2.99. Okay, hm. How can I say this? Oh yeah. The food sucked. No, seriously. It was horrible. It may qualify as one of the worst meals I've ever had, and it's certainly one of the worst meals I've ever paid for in what has been a fairly lengthy life. The "hand-breaded tenderloin?" It must've been hand-breaded by Edward Scissorhands, because every bite tasted like the meat had not only been hand-breaded but had been beaten into submission to such a degree that it might have a supporting role in 50 Shades of Grey. The meat itself was so tough that I couldn't simultaneously eat through the bun and the meat. At one point, I wondered if maybe they'd served me beef jerky instead. The bun was lightly toasted, if by lightly toasted you mean it tasted like they'd stuck it in a toaster for 15 seconds. I found myself picking apart the meat trying to find edible parts. It was a tougher job than a footless guy doing ballet. The cole slaw? It was nothing short of inedible. It was creamy to the point of mass liquidity, while the only distinct flavor added appeared to be a foreign object that I'm not even sure was supposed to be there. The french fries? They were by far the best part of the meal, but that's sort of like my statement that when they amputated my five toes that they did the best job with the little piggy that went to the market. The iced tea? It at least helped me choke down the tenderloin. Bravo for that. At over $11, this was an incredibly disappointing meal. As a rule, I'm not a "send it back" kind of guy. I'm more of a "grin and bear it" kind of guy, at least until I can get home and Yelp it. The restaurant is located on SR 9, a main Greenfield thoroughfare with lots of options and it's refreshing to see some positive reviews for the place because it's hard to imagine that a place that serves a meal this bad could possibly survive. There's a huge part of me that wants to give Jim Dandy a 1-star rating, though I simply can't given that the server who wasn't my real server was attentive and did give me an iced tea to go. Trust me, a 2-star rating is generous. Will I go back? Not a chance. I think there's a better chance that my feet will grow back.

2.5 stars- Reminds me of a Big Boy Wife and I came out here based on the recommendation of our realtor. Our realtor was old, so we shouldn't have been so surprised to see so many old people here (Sorry old people, but you are old, so get over it). Prices are pretty cheap, and they serve breakfast all day (major score in my book). I went with a country scramble, and my wife tried their broasted chicken. My scramble was good, but not too filling (probably a good thing considering how badly I've eaten the past few weeks). My wife enjoyed her chicken. I should've considered getting the buffet ($10). They had fried chicken, ham, and other "fixins", but the stars of the buffet looked like the desserts. Not bad, but I doubt we'll be going back anytime soon.

Jim Dandy is one of those clean family restaurants that dotted small town America years ago. A very pleasant quiet place that gives its hamburgers a special name (the "Jim Dandy" burger), and serves them in a basket with crinkle fries and creamy cold slaw. They've been serving customers since 1964 so they know how to make dishes the way people like. Here you can try broasted chicken, meatloaf with mashed potatoes and gravy, and a killer turkey club. All in a very nostalgic atmosphere where you are guaranteed to have a cute waitress with a mild southern drawl and a big smile. If you are heading to Greenfield off I-70, it will pay you to pass by the chain eateries on 9 and look for this one. Worth a drive from Indy just for the burger basket. What can I say, it's just ...Jim Dandy!

I had been in town a couple of weeks and got around to trying the Jim Dandy. Slow and inattentive service, got fried fish still frozen in the middle, and then treated like a criminal for wanting something different to eat. Best leave this place to their senior citizen regulars.
