My friend and I always like to try new Asian Restaurants around Indiana, and this place by far has the cheapest selection and great food. The reason I wanted to write this review was because the waiter we had was really impatient and decided to rush us for some reason. It only had been ten minutes since we received the food! She also took away my other bowls without asking if I was finished. She also had the nerve to beg for tip which was really uncalled for. The food is great, the sushi and hibachi are good for what they are priced for. It was just unfortunate for us to have the pressure to rush our selves when we were trying to enjoy our food.

My daughter and I stopped in there for a Friday night mother/daughter date. I was a bit put off by the location as its in a small strip mall of sorts. My daughter had been there one other time with my younger daughter and convinced me it wasn't all bad. Actually, it wasn't. The server was polite and attentive. We each ordered a glass of wine with our meals, selection was decent, not great. We had the chicken and shrimp entree from the Hibachi side of the menu. It comes with an onion soup and ginger salad. Daughter could not get enough of the crab rangoon. I have to say it was good! Overall, it this place is fine in a pinch. Prices were fair as well. We also shared a philly roll. Not great, but not bad either. I doubt I'll return, but mostly because I don't live in the area.

For the price, they have decent sushi but it's not of real sushi quality. Also, other items off of the menu tend to be bland. But overall, can't complain about the prices!

I used to travel about an hour to eat sushi here, and we did that for several years. Recently we moved to the Goshen area, and it's official - I really do love Wasabi. The food is always fresh, I'm never waiting long periods, and if I have to wait for short periods the waiter is always very attentive. I did try to give Kaizen's a try (3 actually) and the service was so absurdly slow you almost forgot how mediocre their sushi tastes - don't waste your time at Kaizen if you are in the Goshen area looking for sushi; go to Wasabi!

It's so nice to have a decent sushi place that isn't too costly. Excellent work Wasabi!

I came here just for sushi, so can't comment on the hibachi grill. The sushi was great. Very fresh, the rolls and sashimi were not cold from yesterday, but made fresh! I enjoyed every piece on the "couple's platter", a combo of Dragon, California rolls, sushi and sashimi. We ended up ordering two platters as it was not enough for two people. But we can eat a lot of sushi. The variety of sushi, maki, and specialty fish was small. No octopus, flying fish eggs or BBQ eel here... But what they offered was still really good. Don't let the hole-in-wall location keep you away.

Love everything, every time. Super nice staff too! The only negative thing is the small dining room. It would also be nice if they gave you different choices for salad dressing, but hey, beggars can't be choosers when the salad is free. Good prices!

Worth giving a good try. Crab Ragoon and dumplings both good appetizers. Sushi will bring us back. Fresh and light! Wide range of sauces added variety.

Okay sushi quality. They served very thin slices of sashimi (and apparently 2 slices of artificial crab counts as sashimi). I ordered sushi and sashimi combo and everything tasted alright. However, it was the customer service that really threw me off. Before entering, the waiter told us to wait 30 minutes when there were only around 3 families in the restaurant. Then after she turned around to leave, another waiter came and guided us to our seat. Confused, we just sat down and ordered our food. Then, when I asked for a refill of pickled ginger, the first waiter (who told us to wait 30 minutes) was about to charge us for our ginger until I told her I changed my mind. Again, when she left, I asked another waiter if we could have more ginger and he said it was free of charge. I don't know what is going on between the waiters (they seem to be playing bad cop good cop) but it certainly did not leave a good impression. Over priced sushi, confusing service= I'm not going to return.

Good food this is not. It is hardly worth much comment. I will mitigate this opinion saying that I have had little of their sushi. Maybe some of it is okay. What I sampled was an utter disgrace to its culinary heritage. I object to sushi in the Midwest on a number of grounds (Flash freezing salt water fish to ship inland works in principle. Its texture is, simply, not that of the fresh stuff on the coast). The "onion" soup was nothing of the sort!! Dried onions in beef broth! When was that a traditional Japanese dish? That is why they sell packaged Ramen. The Hibachi grill used good meat, but it was too saucy and distinctly Americanized in both its texture and sweetness. Again, I am willing to have my opinions changed. But I will not be paying for another meal at Wasabi as I can do much better at any number of other regional restaurants (and that is not a high bar to meet) or at home.

Goshen, Indiana: Not exactly known for its Japanese food. I've had many a sushi roll and hibachi dinner, so while I'm no expert, I would consider myself knowledgeable. I was in town visiting my mom, and here we ended up for dinner. They do have the traditional hibachi dinners on the menu -- complete with soup, salad, fried rice and choice of protein with veg -- but there's only one little table next to the sushi bar where you can actually watch the food get cooked. No big show for most of the customers. Which is, combined with its general location of Amish Country, Indiana, probably why the prices are half what you would pay in the Chicago area. Yep. Half. My onion soup + lackluster salad (but yummy dressing) + fried rice with veggies + hibachi chicken was about $9. The chicken was cooked well, tender and flavorful, the rice was solid, onion soup was a little low on the onion but tasty... I also ordered a spicy yellowtail roll and my mom's companion got shrimp shumai, I snagged one. The roll was pretty good -- jam-packed with yellowtail and nothing else, really -- and the shumai was flavorful. Tons of food. Service was pretty good. This is a weird location and not the slightly-nicer dining experience you might expect from a big city, but it's definitely nice to have something a little different available. Kudos for moving away from bland family restaurants, Goshen.

I have since returned to Wasabi at least twice now and have not been disappointed yet. I cannot speak for the hibachi grill yet, though I keep seeing and smelling good things from it. The sushi is still good, and though it's not super fancy, it's still flavorful and not going to break the bank. Example being that a person can order 2 6-piece rolls for seven dollars approximately and have plenty to eat. I look forward to trying the hibachi next.

I was excited to hear that a Japanese steakhouse and sushi restaurant opened in Goshen. After three visits, I can say that so far it's doing a great job. While I'm not a sushi connoisseur, I have liked what I've tried. The restaurant will definitely be one of my favorites in the area.

Just ate here. Waited 45 min for sushi. Came after habachi part was done. Boxed to take home. Wow $6.00 off bill. Then realized they charged 18% gratuity for just two of us. Wtf. Way crazy and not worth a trip back.

Great Prices! Great Service! Food was OK. I will go get a second opinion though. At those prices, you won't go broke trying everything.

Hibachi chicken was delicious, along with their edamame appetizer. I'm a big Japanese and sushi fan. Didn't care for the fried rice. I definitely enjoyed the chicken and vegetables. Highly recommend for a quick and cheap date!

Enjoyed this sushi restaurant in an unassuming spot in...Goshen, IN? Run by Asians, the restaurant prepares sushi and some standard teriyaki dishes. We sampled several rolls that were pretty decent. Service was a little slow when we were there, and a minor complaint is that we were offered refills on tea, and then didn't realize that they would later charge us for the second pour. The interior is clean and pleasant with several tables.

Have been to Wasabi 5 times. It is not Kelly Jay's Next Door and that's ok because it is Good Sushi offered at affordable prices to Sample and Enjoy. It's an everday persons place that should be tried. I have had their Sushi, Sashimi, and special rolls , All Good Less impressed with their Steakhouse Entrees but I would need Benihana's to get excited. All a Good Value Regrets - its out of the Mainstream Area but with the moderate traffic I saw of customers are finding them and the food must be the key

If you love fresh made food, nothing frozen and nice prices this is a very good choice. They have raw and cooked sushi. My choice, the Filet Mignon with chicken. Wasabi, thanks for serving fresh food,Chef is wonderful.

Finally, Goshen has a couple restaurants that offer sushi! I've been here twice and had take-out once. The place is small so sometimes, weekends are packed and reservations may be needed. The last time I was there I overheard another customer comparing it to Hanayori. No, they don't cook the food in front of you, but the hibachi grill (with up to 2 cooks) and sushi bar is on display and can be seen as soon as you walk in. No there is no egg yolk sauce (although I guess I've never asked). Appetizers are cheap but on the smaller portion. We didn't think the amount was shareable, so we ordered more than 3 apps. The prices of hibachi grill items and combinations are fairly inexpensive compared to Mishawaka restaurants. My friend's order was mixed up one time but I think it may be due to language barrier from the young waiter. I love this place because it satisfies my "Hanayori" cravings inexpensively, without all the frills and the 45 minute drive.

This was our first trip so we wanted to try as much as we could. We wanted to take our time and go over the menu, but our server was determined to get something going so came back every minute or so to 'check'. This made us a little crazy as well as feeling very rushed. We started with the appetizers: tempura shrimp and veggies, edamame and crab Rangoon. The edamame was absolutely forgettable. Skip it. Really. The tempura was steamy hot and tender, wonderfully flaky and delicious. The sauces lacked much flavor on every front (as did the onion soup that came with our meals). The crab Rangoon was probably the very best I had ever tasted. I would honestly drive to just have that. Amazingly light and tender and full of flavor. It came quickly, followed only moments later by our salads and soup that were to come with dinner. Again, rushed and very crowded on the tiny tables. Dinner itself consisted of The Wasabi Special (a hibachi combination), Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura and a Wasabi Special Roll. All came right after we had started our appetizers and had only a bite of our salad, leaving everything to sit and get cold. Very, very rushed! That said, hubby liked his Wasabi special, ate every bite, except the one shrimp and piece of broccoli he shared with me. (it was delicious!). The shrimp and vegetable tempura was a larger version on the appetizer we had gotten. It would have been nice to have had that clarified by our server. We would have done something else. But for me, the shining dish is the Wasabi special roll. Delicious with a tiny spicy bite (PLEASE add more flavor to your Wasabi and sauces, and much more heat!) crunchy and delicate. I would eat it every day. I'm afraid they are catering to a Midwestern audience here, which could cost them, as well as cramming our tables full much, much too quickly. That said, I would go back over and over for the Rangoon and Wasabi Roll. All leftovers came home, but I would suggest eating it fresh. We over ordered to try bits of everything. Our server was very sweet and had a misguided sense of urgency, but tried very hard. I assume she is just inexperienced. If you're close by, go! Let's try to keep this little gem around, something original is so rare!

My husband and I have eaten at Wasabi twice now and we were delighted by the food and the service. We had resigned our selves to going to Ft. Wayne or SB for good sushi but now we have Wasabi. The prices were great and the food was some of the best sushi I have had any where and I have had sushi in some pretty expensive restaurants. The must try is the Orange Dragon Roll and the Spicy Yellowtail!

I've never been disappointed at Wasabi's. It's not about the atmosphere here; it's about fresh Japanese food in a small Indiana town. The prices are fantastic. If you're going out to eat for a show, don't bother. But if you want good food at good prices, give it a try!

Everything was food about this place. Sushi selection, beer selection, food taste, and the service was exceptional. If I loved in Goshen I would be a regular customer.
