The best ice cream/milkshakes hands down. The foods not bad but not good either, but who goes for the food. If you've never been go and if you've been well then you know that waiting 15 minutes is well worth it

This place is called the Chief for a reason! No, not because the local HS is the redskins but instead because it is the Chief of Ice cream! Homemade Ice cream with flavors like peanut butter, Banana and Lemon make this one of the best stops in Goshen on a hot summer night. Heck if it were open in the winter I would still stop for a cone! Owned by the Vanderveer's have worked very hard as the owners of this place to keep it local and delicious. Always hiring only the brightest of kids from the local HS to work their shop each summer. This hidden gem should be shown to the world. But it is already busy and will be for generations to come! Great job Chief!

I read how great this ice cream is so I had to try it. Yup...excellent!!! They give big portions and great service!!! I will be back.

This ice cream did not taste fresh to us at all. In fact, it's probably one of the only places I've eaten (other than this place in Virginia Beach during off season) where I said to myself, "I think something is wrong with this ice cream." Didn't even finish it and it was basic vanilla for butter pecan.

After a long day on Lake Michigan, a sugar cone with pecan ice cream from Chiefs was just what I needed I am from out of town, but next time I am in town I will be stopping by here! I also tried the raspberry ice cream which was amazing, and surprisingly tasted very natural. The portions for a one scoop cone were very generous. The atmosphere was very welcoming and seemed as if it were a good hang out for the young people in the community.

Friendly service ....Ice cream was good but I hate to say I expected spectacular from the lines I always see there .....So maybe I had a inflated view on this place before I finally got to the front of the huge line for the first time ....But honestly it was ok and not spectacular ....I don't see what the fuss is all about or why it is feasible to weight in huge lines for this ice cream

Generous portions, fast, friendly service. The peanut butter and the chocolate mint were tasty!

LACTOSE INTOLERANT REVIEW Yes, I've been going here since I was probably say 3 or 4. It's one of my earliest memories. I'd go here with my mom and get a scoop of ice cream from the woman who wouldn't smile - period. The ownership has changed hands since then (thank goodness) and the folks running The Chief used to be teachers in the Goshen area. That's been a change for the better. The ice cream is made right in the back and they even make it and stay open for First Fridays in the fall. How awesome is that? It's a small town ice cream shop that is worth a hours drive to come to. Heck, I fly 1200 miles to get some every summer!

Stopped at The Chief while we were at Glama RV Rally. Had a couple great Sundaes. The lines were a short wait to a great treat.

Thrillist named The Chief one of the top 33 ice cream shops in the nation...TAKE THAT OHIO !

We have been going to The Chief for many years and believe that the ice cream is equal to or better than any I've ever had. There is often a line, but it is always worth the wait. The milk shakes are also great. We will continue to enjoy this local favorite.

Best ice cream in northern Indiana. Hands down. I recommend the peanut butter and chocolate combination. Eat local is the way to go. Big line but it always moves fast.

I grew up with the Chief ice cream, still the best place to get a frozen dairy fix in my opinion. The flavors I've had are all delicious (Blue moon and Lemon are two of my personal favorites.) I also love that they offer pints to take home, means I can have my Chief ice cream whenever I want. Nothing beats the chief on a hot day.

This is absolutely the best ice cream I've ever had. When they did that contest to find the best ice cream in Indiana I was thrilled because the ice cream I grew up on was first, and the ice cream place a block from my current residence was second. Now I love Valpo Velvet, and it's very good, but Chief is on a whole different level. It's everything good ice cream should be from a flavor and texture standpoint. If you haven't had it, you must, because it's the best.

The icecream is really good and the lines to be expected. But so much styrofoam!

There are many kinds of foods Goshen either does not have or does not do well, including pretty much anything in the Asian or Middle Eastern pantheon. However, Goshen rules the roost when it comes to ice cream. This stuff is truly awesome. There's a reason the lines are down the road come summer. It's all handmade, right in the back, with a great variety of flavors. Rich, creamy, so thick you'll risk breaking your plastic spoon, so maybe you should get a cone instead -- except then you have to eat so fast you'll get a headache. But after the headache fades, you will be left with the taste and memory of the best small-town ice cream shop around. In case you're not convinced yet, they will make any ice cream concoction your heart desires, as long as they have the ingredients. And let me tease you with some flavors: mocha fudge. Toasted coconut. Peanut butter. Strawberry. Butter pecan. Need I go on...?

I have been a BIG fan of The Chief for a long time until...last night we went and noticed they were not cleaning off their scoops when switching flavors. I didn't mind having a little Blue Moon mixed in with my Mint Chip, but it was a big deal when my son got a little peanut butter in his Cafe Mocha and we could not tell. He had an allergic reaction and got pretty sick. We have never had issues at any other ice cream shops... DQ, Flavor Freeze, Urban Swirl, etc...

Best Ice-Cream in Elkhart County (officially, the newspaper says so). If you live in Goshen you already know that, but if you're visiting, visit the Chief. Or, if it's winter you can snag a Christmas tree there.

Goshen is packed with locally owned businesses that hold themselves to a very high standard and the chief should be included in that conversation. My favorite ice cream by far in the entire michiana area. Creamy, rich, and second to none in quality. If you ride a bicycle, this is the perfect place to cool off with a snack when cruising the back roads of Amish country.

Awesome ice cream...cookies and cream and peanut butter are two of our favorites.
