I think most Mexican restaurants are pretty much interchangeable. Not that that's a bad thing - I do like consistency! Because of that, I would give most Mexican restaurants 3 stars, but I had a really good experience at Riviera Maya. Our server (gosh dangit, can't remember his name, but he was the server in the bar area) was so gall-darned friendly! He was very attentive and always came up to our table with a genuine smile. He tried to get us to order in Spanish and you could tell he was having fun. I also like the interior of Riviera Maya too. It just makes me happy. I ordered the fajita taco salad with the queso on the side and it was yummy! They gave me an entire order of queso on the side. I don't know if that's how much usually goes on the taco salad, but if so, they are generous! They also refilled our salsa frequently which I enjoy. Overall, I feel like this Mexican restaurant sets itself apart from the hoards of others in the surrounding area. I'd definitely go back!

Chales this place is no bueno. The place looks legit, cool setting, nice decorations, cool art work. The food needs a lot of improvement, the salsa for the chips is way watered down, i dipped my chips maybe 3 times. On to the main dish, I ordered chilaquiles, its a tortilla based dish with salsa and meat. I only ate the chicken, and didnt even touch the tortillas it looked like they used the chips that they serve with the salsa. They failed, I dont think I will be returning return. Great customer service though.

Riviera Maya is a staple in my boyfriend and I's lives!! This is my favorite Mexican restaurant. We go once a week. He always orders either the Ground Beef Taco Salad or the Acapulco Chimichanga, and I always get the Arroz con Pollo. The Margaritas can't be beat - I suggest the Peach flavored. Definitely suggest the bar for those without children on Friday and Saturday nights (it can get rather overrun with children in the main dining area). Writing this is making me want to go there right now... HIGHLY Recommend!!

We stopped in at Riviera Maya after getting some coffee across the street today, and it really hit the spot. We got the three taco deal for $6 and they were delicious! It felt like a real steal. I have had the fajitas here once before as well, and I would recommend. They're bathrooms were dysfunctional and weren't very clean, which is why I deducted a star.

This is probably the best Mexican restaurant I have ever eaten at. The food is absolutely amazing and there are a ton of options, even for the pickiest eaters. The staff is always friendly and inviting and even when they're swamped there prompt and attentive. Then there is the restaurant itself. I don't think I've ever seen cooler decor or anywhere else.

Just found out this place is related to one of my favorite Mexican restaurants, Mi Pueblo in Franklin Indiana. And just like Mi Pueb, Riviera Maya never disappoints. My coworkers and I are regulars here at lunchtime. We all love the salsa which is fresh and zippy. The chips are served warm and are tasty. Service is very fast, especially at lunch which is good otherwise we would fill up on chips and salsa. Food is excellent and servings are huge. The lunch menu is extensive and includes more variety than the average Mexican restaurant. Lunch specials are listed on the board and are a bargain. The vegetarian combos are very flavorful, I think I have tried them all. Even though I practically know the menu by heart I always have a hard time making a decision. Cheese enchiladas, veggie burrito, taco salad.......I can't even name a favorite. Rice and beans are very tasty and the queso is so thick, melty and smooth you could drink it. Someday I might.

I have several Mexican spots that I just keep going back to. Maya Riviera is one of them. While their margaritas are pretty standard, they're good. Especially if you go the extra mile and add a floater of Grand Marnier. Their food is actually one of my favorites in the Indianapolis area. Start with the Mexican Chili Bowl. Maybe the Burrito Gigante and possibly throw in a beef taco or a chalupa. You won't be disappointed.

Met here on a Monday night with some girlfriends and were quickly seated. Our table was not cleaned off and the menus were pretty dingy. We ordered water to start and eventually made our drink orders. I opted for a beer because it looked like the margaritas were made from a mix. I tasted my friend's and can verify that. They forgot my beer and I had to ask for it again. The chips and salsa were good. I ordered the chicken fajita quesadilla and it was ginormous. I seemed to have no problem eating all of it though! Our server did ask us if we needed separate checks so that was nice and you have to pay at the register.

We had heard great things about this restaurant but left disappointed. It is really no different than any other Mexican restaurant of that caliber. It was "fine."

Pretty decent place. Food was delicious. We had the pork carnitas and the carne asada burrito. The carnitas were tender and flavorful. The carne asada was seasoned perfectly. Service was good. Our sever seemed to be stretched a little thin but still gave us his undivided attention. The restaurant itself needs a little TLC. The fabric in the booths was ripped and had been taped back together, light bulbs needed replacing, etc. Just a side note, this place is LOUD. Mainly because of the unruly children running around but when it is busy there is nothing to absorb the sound.

I really like Riviera Maya. I went here for lunch with a few friends, one of which had her little boy with her. The server was very attentive to the little guy. The food was great. I got enchiladas, per usual for me at any Mexican restaurant. The queso was delÃciouso. Didn't have a drink this time, but tried my friends' Margarita. It was strong and so tasty! Will definitely go back here.

On Sunday with my coupon, I asked the waiter for the single order of steak and chicken fajitas. It costs $13.99. However, I thought with my coupon to buy one lunch entree, get one 50% off, I would get it for a reasonable cost. When we got to the register, the man said that my coupon was not applicable although I informed the waiter that we want to use it. Apparently, on Sundays (and maybe Saturdays), it is dinner only and no lunch options all day. Also, I wanted to scan my Spot On card for a point but with all the confusion, it was too late. Bottom line: To me, the fajitas cost too much. Therefore, I had better elsewhere.

In the 8 years I've lived here, this was the first time eating at Riviera. I think this may be our new favorite place for Mexican. It was pretty busy when we went and it had a steady flow of people. The food was very good and the service was also very good. The menu is pretty much the typical Mexican food you would expect. Loved the atmosphere in the place as well. Overall a good experience.

Well, for a first day on the job lunch spot, Riviera Maya was a good choice. I opted for my Mexican lunch go to dish of Arroz Con Pollo and I was not let down, everything about it was delicious, from the creamy queso drizzled on top to the spiced chicken bits just grilled to perfection. The atmosphere was great! Had I not been busy trying to make a good impression, I would have snagged some pics...never fear, I'll be back to get some soon! We had a late lunch, around 1:30, so the place was super chill and not too busy at all, which made for a great lunch chat and getting to know everyone! The only reason for the three stars is that the service was less than great, and by this I mean, I felt like our waiter was more bothered by us than wanting to be helpful. In any news, he warmed up and by the end of the meal he was feeling a little more gracious towards us. Can't wait to stop by around dinner and try the margs! They looked about as yummy as a marg can be!

Ok, so this is officially my go-to spot in Fishers when I'm craving Mexican cuisine. It's super close to work, it's the perfect meet-up spot for coworkers and they have THE BEST Arroz con Pollo dish. And the chips and salsa aren't so bad either. I've always had friendly service when at Riviera Maya. One day I asked to sit outside (they hadn't opened it up yet) and they were more than happy to accommodate my desire to bask in the sun. The only request I have is more napkins. I feel like I never have enough napkins! Maybe I'm a messy eater or I choose the meals that seem to fall all over the place. But typically, the more napkins the better.

Who knew this was even here? Loved it! Stopped here after leaving Fishers at the Forum Skating Arena about 7:00 on a Saturday evening. To our amazement the place was full but we didn't wait one second! They have it down to a science. I'm not a vegetarian but I opted to try the Spinach Enchiladas and I am glad I did that! They were delicious!! The hubby is stopping here on his way home after hockey tonight and picking some dinner up! Can't wait!
Update: Have been several times over the past year and the service has went downhill. We went this evening and waited 25 minutes for our check and didn't get anything we asked for in a timely manner whatsoever. We were extremely disappointed in our dining experience this evening and won't be returning.

For quite awhile, this was in my humble opinion the best Mexican restaurant in Fishers, but sadly the last two times that we have been here it's been sub-par. The food is still pretty good, but the service is beginning to lack. The waitress that we have had the last two times has been very inattentive which means slow drinks, slow service, and slow to bring us our check. The restaurant is starting to look a little beat up too. The seat cushions on the large booths are starting to get torn up and the foam underneath is exposed. The bathrooms (according to my wife) were pretty disgusting and that is usually where we draw the line and stop going to a place. If they cannot keep the bathrooms clean then what is the kitchen like?

great spot for a speedy lunch! There are plenty of tables to accommodate large groups as well. Enjoyed their salsa but would have been ok with more of a kick to it. Chips/salsa and drinks came instantly to the table. Ordering from the lunch menu makes the choices much less overwhelming. Taco salad was nice and refreshing with shredded chicken or beef available. They leave your ticket with you and you can check out at the front when you are ready to go. I appreciated not having to wait on a server to get my bill paid when doing a work rush lunch. This is a great sitdown option if you just aren't in the mood for Qdoba or Chipotle.

When I sat down and looked at the menu I thought, "Wow, guacamole for $3.50?" That's surprisingly cheap to me. I'm used to paying $4-$5. But when it came out super fast and looking mushy, I figured out why it was so cheap: it was made from the powdered stuff. The instant mash potatoes of Mexican food. The salsa wasn't much better. It struck me as canned store-bought salsa combined with canned crushed tomatoes dumped in for added texture. I had a chicken chimichanga for my entree and while it was okay, I could tell it was likely frozen and flash fried or reheated. It just had that dry chewy taste you get from microwaving or re-heating something. 2/5, would not recommend.

We have been coming to this restaurant for years. It is the best Mexican food in fishers. With that being said, they need to think about renovating some of the inside. Many of the booths are falling apart and there is always a weird cleaning supplies smell in the lobby. They could use a bigger waiting area because it gets very busy. We love the chicken chimichangas, queso, salsa, rice, nachos, and enchiladas. Services I was fast. The parking lot can be a hassle when it's busy but it doesn't stop us from going.

Divya V.
I've been back a couple of times for dinner... this place is always packed... the parking lot is pretty full even on a weekday. The cheese dip is still one of the best I've had... The hubby and I usually split 1 order of the fajita's and get extra corn tortilla's this is plenty for the two of us! Also, they usually have some good beer specials.... got a 32oz. fat tire for $2.99!

Get in. Get down. Get out. Every time we've been in here, we've had solid Mexican food with very speedy service. The atmosphere is different from your typical pop up Mexican restaurant as it is very bright and colorful. The prices are also what you'd expect from a casual sit down Mexican place and if I had one complaint, it is the salsa -- no bite to it at all. Chips are consistently good and not greasy.

Being from San Diego, finding good Mexican food in the Midwest is challenging. The 4 stars is a Midwest scale not a San Diego scale. 1 - my taco and burrito come with ground beef not carne asada. Ground beef with zero spices added. 2 - rice and beans were decent 3 - our chimi changa had a melted cheese sauce of some sort on it. 4 - salsa was good but is completely tame and zero heat. They do have the good stuff with some heat though, just ask for it. They was good stuff. 5 - the burritos are automatically served "wet" with some kind of red sauce. While no this is not gonna cut it compared to San Diego, it is about as good as we have found for Mexican food in the Midwest so far. Many places we have been to the food is so terrible it was not edible. I had no trouble scarfing down my plate of food. Next time we go we know to request they leave that "cheese" off the food and specifically request some carne asada meat. Which apparently they have but I couldn't find it on the menu.

Pretty good Mexican food. I ordered a fajita burrito off the menu and it was absolutely delicious. Service was good, but not great. The salsa was just meh, but the food was amazing. The decorations are really interesting and there's always lots of room for big parties. Will keep coming back.

I'll keep this brief. The food was decent. Not great, but not horrible, but just decent. The service? This visit, it was absolutely horrid. Terrible. Really, really bad. And not just slow with forgotten items, but horribly rude on top of that. I'm a pretty easy to please guy, and I'm not a demanding customer. It doesn't take much to please me. Give me a smile, bring me the food I ordered, and I'm happy. Unfortunately, neither of those things happened this visit. I'll try one of their other locations, but not this one again.

Really like the atmosphere and decor. The food is good. They have nice salsa and I love to try their specials - they always have something different on special so motivates me to try a different dish. Everything I've had has been really good - really like the chalupa though. Great place to take our toddler - he loves it too. Fast service.

One of my favorite places in town. Tortilla soup rocks! Prices are great and they have coupons too. The staff is friendly and there's tons of space for large groups. It's a little dark which is unfortunate but the food is great.

This is a great Mexican place in Fishers - finally a restaurant in this location that isn't trying to be Nickel Plate (another great place). My wife and I go here about 1-2 times/month. The service is usually excellent and the food is always excellent. My only complaint is having to sometimes wait in a very long line to pay my bill. Not usually a big deal, but it can be irritating if you're in a hurry. I recommend sitting in the bar area - no chance of having to sit next to a screaming kid that way.

The food is the best Mexican in the Indianapolis area hands down. The chili relleno and choriqueso (cheese and chorizo dip) are two of my staples. However, I have yet to have a bad meal hear. The quality of the food is consistently above my expectations. My wife and I live in downtown Indy and we frequently make the commute to Fishers just for Riviera Maya. Ask for the secret "extra spicy" salsa, Its lightly sweet with a punch.

My wife and I go here once a week or more. They know us well! Quick service for the most part. Every now and again we'll get a waiter or waitress that is not as efficient as some others, but it is rare. Excellent salsa and queso. We usually get fajitas to share (just one order) and have plenty to take home for leftovers. Prices are good. Lunch specials are good and fast if you are in a rush. The place is usually always busy if you go during lunch/dinner hours. The taco salad is my favorite and the chicken quesadilla for my wife. The burritos are good as well. Love, love, love this place!! It's way better than most places.

Went here for lunch this past week. The interior is WAY decked out with Mexican-ish decor! I think kids will like the decor...tons of stuff to look at. There's also a patio for the warm weather, but I'm guessing this gets a bit exhaust-smelling during Fishers rush hour. Service was super fast but not super attentive, but at lunch, speed tends to matter quite a bit. The salsa was typical jarred type salsa, we found ourselves pouring hot sauce into it. It lacked any cilantro flavor (a negative for me). There are 3 types of hot sauce on the table, but nothing obscure or memorable. My friend had a chimichanga which looked pretty on the plate, covered in queso sauce, and he ate it without complaining. I am a tamale fiend...I ALWAYS have tamales or carnitas...hopefully both if I can convince whoever I'm with to order carnitas. The tamale was ok. Not gross, but not awesome. It was topped with a flavorful meaty chili sauce...like Skyline but without the Cincinnati cinnamon. Within the same week I had 2 other tamales which were way better than this one (from the Tamale Place and Mexican In Restaurant). In conclusion, would I drive up to Fishers to eat at this place? Hell no. If I was ON 116th St and the Nickel Plate was too busy would I cross the street and eat here again if someone else wanted Mexican? Yes, it's probable.

The food is a four star but some of the wait staff makes it a 1-2 star. Not friendly , not attentive to our order or to what we needed. We knew this was going to be a bad experience when the wait staff was arguing on who was going to wait on us. Apparently we got the "short straw"!

The food was average Mexican food for the area. My dining companion had an issue with a charge on his bill. When he brought this to the attention of the cashier, he was blown off. He asked to see the manager and the cashier mumbled that he is the manager. He refused to address the issue. My friend asked who the owner is and he said "owner comes once a month". My suggestion to the owner is to come more than once a month because today he lost not one customer but a large group of frequent diners

To put it simply - VERY GOOD. The menu is nothing off the beaten path but my typical grilled chicken fajita salad was unique, full of flavor and absolutely one of the best I've had! I was super impressed with the decor, welcoming staff and cleanliness of this restaurant as well. As usual, service seems to be a priority in Mexican restaurants which is why I love going. They are quick ...polite and always keep my drink refilled. There is always enough chips and salsa to go around (and around) and I genuinely enjoyed my lunchtime experience here last week. I will be back and would recommend it for "good" Mexican in the area.
(4)
Brooke S.
My one gripe- service is hit or miss, which I'm not really worried about because this place is always busy! My sweet hubby can't stand cilantro- so he says this place has the best salsa of anywhere- it's like a smooth fresh tomato sauce without much else.... We load it up with green hot sauce. The food comes out to your table at a lightening pace- most of the time. I have 4 kids and they LOVE eating here. The kids meals are super generous!

The first time we visited Riviera Maya was about two years ago under completely different circumstances. It was dinner time and we were with a large group. The entire experience the first time was stellar in every way. I mention this because that visit alone was the reason we went to other Riviera Maya locations and bought a Groupon to this location so we could return. Our second visit, which I am reviewing, it was just my husband and me and we visited during lunch on a Thursday. If this would have been my first visit, I would have been less reluctant to return. The service was awful from everybody we encountered. The waitress asked us if we wanted an appetizer and we asked for guacamole, which she never brought. Rick says his entree was average, but he probably wouldn't order it again. The fish tacos I ordered were simply outstanding and exactly what I was craving. The chips and salsa were great. I think we'd probably go visit other locations. We'd even return with a group of friends. But I can't imagine us ever returning during lunch hour at this location.

I shouldn't even give them 1 star, we ate there last night and I can just now talk about it, I had beef chimichanga and a margarita rice and beans, I have been in the toilet all night! The only reason I gave them 1 star is because I touched the screen and it will not take it back! The wait staff was ok but the food, I'm going back to Fraico's! And fast....

Good, fun Mexican place. Nothing super special on the menu, but a pretty decent variety and everything I've had has been quite good (if sometimes lacking a bit in punch/spice). I typically judge a Mexican place on their Chimichanga -- and theirs was pretty good but not the best I've had :) Riviera Maya is comfortable -- close to home, reasonably priced, nice fun atmosphere, decent drinks. Service is usually very prompt. It's good for family and groups because unless there's someone who just wholesale hates Mexican food, you're not going to offend anyone with this place. If you're on the northeast side, check it out.

Absolutely love this place! Same owner (Clemente) opened up shop in Anderson (Real Hacienda) years ago and it quickly become a local favorite. Imagine my surprise when it opened in Fishers. Portions are huge and full of flavor. Margarita's are fantastic. Chips & salsa you'll eat by the boat-load. Be sure to try the guacamole and spicy salsa too. For lunch, try the Speedy Gonzales and for dinner, opt for the chicken chimichanga. They don't disappoint. Service is outstanding. On a good day, you can be in and out in 30-minutes. Unless of course you're sucking down the margarita pitcher. :) Best Mexican in Indianapolis!

Who knew about this place??? Apparently its been in business for about nine months and I hope it stays because i think I've just found the new best Mexican restaurant in Indianapolis. First, the food - Delicious! The chips are warm and thankfully not over salted as is too often the case. The salsa is well balanced and there is a hot sauce on the table if you want to amp up the heat. I had tamales, a burrito and an enchilada - all very good. The beef is well seasoned. They do not throw on lettuce and rice as filler and I am thankful for that. Plus, the cheese is not over done - again, thankful. Interesting that the salsa that is on the main course is not the same salsa for the chips - this makes great sense and shows some thoughtfulness about the cuisine. The service was completely adequate and the decor is a little eclectic, but nice and...Mexicanny. It looks like all the chairs have been custom made with the Maya name carved into the back - a nice touch. I'll be back soon and if the experience is the same, 5 stars for sure.

Went during off hours, hitting it about 3:30 p.m. on a Thursday. The best thing was the meat. Best beef fajita meat I have ever had (I spent 10 years an hour from Mexico border, so I have some fajitas). But no great flavor, refried beans were bland, store-bought flour tortillas, guac was so bad had them take it back. Service was slow as new shift was coming in and busy with getting ready for the evening, not concerned too much with us.

Like a hook up at a party...fun while it lasts...but ultimately lacking fulfillment. The highs: lots of tables, fun decor and fast service. The lows: watered down drinks, watery salsa and average fare.
(2)
Steve H.
The food is fair and the decor is really cool, but it's over priced. If you're looking for a deal on Mexican food, this is not the place to go. With over a dozen other Mexican joints nearby, Riviera Maya fails to stand out.

Sat down with warm chips and delicious, flavorful salsa. Server brought drinks quickly along with water. Entrees were served quickly and very tasty! Large portions kept us from even considering the desserts. Definitely a "go back there" place! Glad we got there early because it filled up fast with couples and families with children.

Decided to try this place around 9:00 p.m. on a Friday. It was close and sounded fun. Arrived and were seated right away in a dark corner with a table of 10 next to us with 5 little kids, no thanks! Asked if we could move which they promptly did to a better table with a great view of the whole restaurant. They bring out chips and salsa almost immediately with water, the chips were warm and crispy and the salsa was pretty tasty, not too spicy. I had the strawberry margarita and my buddy had the mango one I think or something fruity, lol. I had the #6 on the menu, which was incredibly delicious. Our server was fairly young and seemed inexperienced, but it wasn't awful service, just a little slow. My only complaint was the Ricky Martin soundtrack or whatever was playing, seemed kind of cheesy. They close at 10:00 p.m. and when that time comes around, boy does it get quiet, they turn the aforementioned Ricky Martin music off, which makes it a bit awkward. Overall, a pretty good experience; will definitely go back.

Another Gordon Food Services Mexican restaurant. Over use of microwave creates bland tasting food that could otherwise be prepared well and truly authentic. The staff were great and attentive. Very large servings with moderately priced food. Family friendly setting with staff that made a special effort to have a rapport with the kids. The ambiance is better than most with stone adobe like features & a fountain. It's a very busy restaurant on a Friday night and parking as well as exiting to the west is almost impossible. The margarita's were okay, a better pre-made mix than most but still not fresh.

And they finally got it right! In the five years I have lived in Fishers, multiple restaurants have come and gone from this location. Riviera Maya is here to stay. Delicious food. Good service. Good prices. Great atmosphere. Well worth trying...a few times.

Hopefully this place can stick around longer than the other places that have been there. We went on a Friday night, were seated within a few minutes despite a full waiting area. Service was OK, its a fairly new place, i'd assume everyone is still getting the swing of things and learning the job. The inside is decorated very nicely, lots of $$ put into it. With that said, I could care less what the inside looks like because the food was AMAZING. I have the juaritos (sp?) enchiladas and my wife had the chicken fajitas. They were both very good and came out fairly quickly. Can't say enough about the food, well worth it. Great white queso. Pricing was decent (coupon on coupons4indy) :)

We love Mexican food, so I was glad to see a new place go up in the former "Papa's restaurant". We would drive by and think "hey we need to try this place", finally we remembered :) and went. The inside was completely remodled. The restaurant is a bit dark, the table and floor was stickey (both times we have been) but the decor keeps in line w/the Mayan theme. Our food was good--I got a combo that came w/a taco, chalupa and my FAVORITE Chile Reano (sp?). The only reason I got the combo again was for the Chile Reano, it had great flavor, lots of cheese, the red sauce was YUMMY. We had ok service (I'm a big diet coke drinker, so I don't like to be out of soda--that's the tip meter). I would recommend you go and try at least once, see if you make it one of your favorites.

Meh. I knew from the beginning when the chips and salsa arrived. If a Mexican joint fails the salsa test, the rest of the meal usually follows in the downhill direction. The salsa was flavored water with some tomato and onion bits. I should have paid for the drink and chips and walked out. The food was standard fare, not really anything special. The most flavor came from the typical grocery-store hot sauce bottles on the table, which just made the food taste like vinegary grocery-store hot sauce.

I am a native of California and grew up on Mexican dishes. This restaurant is a reminder of home for me. Starting with the service, they were great. We didn't wait long for our meals or refills of our drinks. I had the carne asada burrito and it was full of all the flavors you would expect in a marinated steak meat. My wife had the chicken fajitas and she impressed by the freshness of all the ingredients used. To me it was a good old home meal and I would go back again many times in the future. Don't forget to order the queso blanco with chips for an appetizer. This place has a bar to, so you can get you an authentic tequila shot with your dinner!

Some of the better Mexican food you'll find in the city, at least on the north side. The building and decor is pretty interesting. The best thing though: Corona is served with a frosted mug which renders into a beer slushi. I'd give the place 4 stars, but every single time I've been here the service has been absolutely abysmal. At this point I only go if it's convenient - as good as the food or beer situation may be, I can't stand to be left sitting for 15-20 minutes at a time waiting for a server to come take a drink order or offer the check.

I've been back now several times, including dinner and large groups. They're now my favorite local Mexican place. Staff is always friendly and fast, food is excellent, chips and salsa always fresh, and margaritas are strong! What more could you ask for?

Nice decor and big food portions. Lunch has pretty cheap deals.

Had dinner here on a Monday was seated right away. Very spacious restaurant with a festive decor and outdoor seating. Food was great and you got a lot of it for the price. I recommend trying some of the specialty dishes. The service here was very friendly and fast!

We tried Riviera Maya for the first time a few days ago, and were pretty favorably impressed. The decor (a massive renovation compared to several restaurants that have preceded it in its space) is charming -- Lots of bare stone, attractive carved chairs, very artful and tastfully done. We went mid-afternoon, so were able to take advantage of the lunchtime pricing. The lunch portions were very ample, and even items like the fajitas were safely under $10. The chips are a little bland, but fresh, light, and crispy. A little bit of salt fixed the blandness, and then they were great. I ordered a side of guacamole for the chips, and it was freshly made and perfectly seasoned. I'll definitely do that again next time. I had a house margarita, on the rocks, with salt. The $9+ price (for 27oz) was a little steep compared to one of our other favorite local Mexican places, but not bad for the size of drink. It was good, pretty standard, not too tart, but nothing remarkable. I tried the beef chimichanga for my main course. It was full of meat, well-seasoned but not too spicy, and I didn't taste any beans, which is a refreshing change from other places I've tried recently. It was served straight-up, not buried under a sauce, which for me is a plus. It came with rice and beans on the side, which weren't mentioned in the menu. Had I known, I would have changed to all rice. (Not a bean fan, can you tell?) The rice was good, although again a little on the bland side for Mexican rice. It seems like they're catering more to American palates than being true to their Mexican roots. There were four of us in our party, and everyone was pleased with what they ordered (chorizo and eggs, fajitas, and a chicken dish whose name escapes me). We agreed that we'll all gladly go back again soon, and maybe we'll try some of the dessert items this time. The flan, especially, sounds wonderful. I looked the restaurant up on the web later, and it sounds like it's family-owned, one of about a dozen, mostly in Kentucky. If our first visit is any indication, I think they'll do fairly well in the Indianapolis market and we'll see a few more of them opening up soon.

We love "The Riv"! Easily the best Mexican food in NE Indy.

My favorite Mexican place in Fishers. I love the Quesadilla Mazatlan, although it is big enough for my husband and I to split. The food is very good. The service is usually fast. This is the same restaurant as The Real Hacienda in Anderson. Very kid friendly.

This was a very good Mexican restaurant. I really cannot say anything bad about it! The service was excellent...fast, attentive, courteous, helpful. The restaurant was very clean and had a great ambiance. I had one of the combination dinners and the chile relenos was very tasty. Husband had the fajitas which came out sizzling....ample portion and condiments. I do not know what the complaint reviews regarding the guacamole are about...it was delicious! We are just passing through town and won't be back soon but hope to come back again sometime.

At first I was excited when we saw the full waiting area. The decor is fun. The waitress was not made to wait tables. The food tasted like a cheap tv dinner. I will not come back.

We dined here this past Friday evening arriving around 5:45 p.m. The service we received was pathetic. We sat in our booth almost 20 minutes before a waiter even showed up to take our order. We never saw him again until he brought the check after. Never bothered to make sure our food was alright or that we received everything which we did not or even to refresh our drinks...nothing. The food wasn't too bad but nothing outstanding either. Some of it was actually quite bland. We had ordered cheese dip for our chips as well but this is the item we never received. They also tried to bill us for it anyway but we made sure it was removed...so with that being said...be sure to take a good look at your bill when you leave. I'd be reluctant to return based on the poor service we received & there are plenty of other Mexican restaurants around where good food & good service can be enjoyed.

I found the salsa to be great but I prefer a chunkier salsa, my husband likes the super watery type and he wasn't super keane on it at first but I got some to go and the next day he loved it (perhaps because it was cold). The rest of my meal was tasty, on-par with many other Mexican restaurants. The wait service was outstanding (our waiter was awesome) the host however was ...lets just say she was extremely rude but that could be my fault, I didn't know requesting a high chair was a horribly hard and time consuming task. It's quite a drive for us so I can't count on us returning but if we were in the area I'd stop in again.

We went on Cinco de Mayo for dinner & waited a little over an hour when told only 20-30 minute. We expected that with the crowd though. The food was very good & we plan to go back. Considering how busy our waitress was she was very attentive & our order was perfect. Definitely recommend their margarita, even though I was a little disappointed that they were "out" of strawberry margaritas due to the crowd.

Hungry, heading south on I-69, and having a craving for mexican food, I used my trusty Yelp app to help me find a mexican restaurant on our way back to downtown Indy. The food was ok, the service was slow, the over the top decor was kitschy, and it was kind of stinky (think musty, dirty mop water smell). The big plus was the incredible value. I got the lunch portion fajitas and there was a ton of food for only $7.95, topped off with a 32 oz Coors Light for $2.99. The fajitas were what I would expect, no surprises here. The big downfall of the food was the lack of spice; the salsa tasted like canned tomatoes with only a little bit of onion and cilantro added. I like some spice in my salsa and it was definitely lacking here. This would be a good place for people who are afraid of mexican food being too spicy. For me, it's not really my cup of tea. There are so many good mexican food options in Indianapolis.

Having eating here for the third time and I do not intend to return. Poor service and food is below average at best. If this restaurant was located in Texas or the Southwest it would not make it.

I'm loco for riviera maya!! Best Mexican food ever- love the fajitas and the decor. It reminds me of the pirates of Caribbean ride at Disney world! Great service, tasty food and good beer specials.

The quality of the service can vary here. We seem to get the worst service when they are not busy and no one comes back to check on you. Food is good and reasonably priced. The interior is very nicely decorated and it is family friendly.

I am sorry I went into this place. My meal was terrible, and I am now sick. My husband's taco salad was a smaller portion than other peoples', although there was no luncheon deal or portions. The service was a tad below average; once we got our second cup of coffee, we were ignored. I asked one guy to take away the used plates at our table, he said to ask my server. This was funny since he was the guy taking plates and bringing the food. The diverse sizes of portions was just too weird--I ihave not seen that in any restaurants. My meal almost tasted as if it were frozen and reheated. My husband's salad was all lettuce and one slice of tomato. Never going back,

Haven't been here yet, but have wanted to get there. Based on the reviews I read it sounds like my kinda place. I checked them out on line and thought the decor looked really cool! Some of the reviews talk about the lack of spice in the food...which is okay with me. Don't like a lot of hot, spicy stuff. Can't wait to try it! The only thing I think they are missing is live music on the weekends. I love that the Cancun in Westfield has live music on Fridays from 6:30-9:30. More restaurants should do that. Good luck to Riviera Maya!

Went in for lunch. Decent food. Nice interior design, but might get loud on a busy Friday or Saturday night(all hard surfaces)

Thought this was better than the average Mexican places in the area. I think there's a little more flavor going on with the sauces and the Carnitas are pretty amazing. You look at that pork sideways and it falls apart. Good stuff and a really amazing interior. Worth a visit just to check out the carved booths and architectural salvage (stone and stained glass) that makes up the inside of this place. Very cool.

I've been spoiled by good Mexican food so that enjoying these "kit" menu restaurants is becoming more and more difficult unless I stick with those which I know bring the quality. Don't get me wrong, I love a plate of beef, beans and cheese but only when done with some care and flavor. I like Mexican food because of its flavors. I felt that the staff at Riviera Maya were holding back... like they were scared to spice things up and add flavor. I am not just talking about "heat" either, just flavor in general. The salsa was as bland as I've had it. The meat was pretty under seasoned as well. At least make up for it with cheese overload instead of making me wonder at times if there was even actually cheese on my plate. I had had a rough day and was looking for some comfort in a nice plate of Mexican grub, but instead left disappointed in not only the food but the service as well. the staff was slow and not attentive. At least the prices are decent.

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

(5)Kelsey B.
(4)Jake B.
(5)Missi R.
(5)Suzanne W.
(5)Erin Q.
(3)Anne H.
We had heard great things about this restaurant but left disappointed. It is really no different than any other Mexican restaurant of that caliber. It was "fine."
(3)Adrienne G.
(3)Alexandra F.
(4)Linda M.
(2)Dave C.
(4)Elizabeth P.
(3)Sarah C.
(4)P M.
Can't wait!
(5)Sandy L.
In town to visit famiy (I'm from Milwaukee) we wanted Mexican. I was with two people in the food industry, so they are pretty picky. We loved it all. The décor, the service but especially the food. I had a beef chimichanga and a chicken one. I loved the white cheesy sauce. I don't think it was just melted cheese. It added a lot for me. The chicken chucks were huge. I prefer shredded beef. These were cubed, but still good. We will go back for sure, next time I'm in town. Or they could open one in Milwaukee!!!
(4)Melissa L.
Update: Have been several times over the past year and the service has went downhill. We went this evening and waited 25 minutes for our check and didn't get anything we asked for in a timely manner whatsoever. We were extremely disappointed in our dining experience this evening and won't be returning.
(2)Jason H.
(3)Erica G.
great spot for a speedy lunch!
(4)Justin H.
(2)A B.
(5)Divya V.
(4)Jake G.
Awesome chips & salsa, burritos are an incredible value.
(4)Jason S.
Get in. Get down.
(4)Garrett H.
(4)Keeley M.
Pretty good Mexican food. I ordered a fajita burrito off the menu and it was absolutely delicious. Service was good, but not great. The salsa was just meh, but the food was amazing. The decorations are really interesting and there's always lots of room for big parties. Will keep coming back.
(4)Rick G.
(2)Lisa S.
Really like the atmosphere and decor. The food is good. They have nice salsa and I love to try their specials - they always have something different on special so motivates me to try a different dish. Everything I've had has been really good - really like the chalupa though. Great place to take our toddler - he loves it too. Fast service.
(5)Irene H.
ElRodeo was our go to Mexican place, Sunday night they wee closed and we checked out this place. OMG! LOVE IT! So good, I'm thinking we have a New Mexican go to for family dinner.
(4)Alicia S.
One of my favorite places in town. Tortilla soup rocks! Prices are great and they have coupons too. The staff is friendly and there's tons of space for large groups. It's a little dark which is unfortunate but the food is great.
(4)Jackie B.
As far as we are concerned this is the best place for Mexican in Fishers! We love their Mexican pizza. In warm weather enjoy the outdoor seating.
(4)Sean H.
Great service, average food, horrible guacamole :( Fun place don't get me wrong but don't bother with the guacamole it's the same blah everytime I've been here. Great place for a few drinks and some fun though
(3)Stephanie W.
My favorite Mexican restaurant in Fishers. Service is always quick, the food is consistently good, and the atmosphere is great. I've tried several other local restaurants and keep going back to Riviera Maya, because the staff is friendly and the food is delicious.
(5)Kristen F.
Our favorite Mexican restaurant burned down a while ago and we have not found another as good until now! Very pleased with everything from the service to the fantastic food to the decent margarita. Highly recommend.
(5)William H.
(4)Mitzi K.
Our family's favorite Mexican restaurant in Fishers. The service is fast and the servers are attentive. The food is reliable and the margaritas are wonderful. Great prices for a good family dinner.
(4)John B.
Solid Mexican dining.
(4)John H.
(5)Leroy M.
(5)Brittany L.

Best Mexican food in the Indy area. My family and I come here often an we are always impressed!
(5)Marcie M.

We just moved to the area and tried Rivera Maya for the first time. Fun atmosphere, great for kids. The food was delicious and margaritas were great. We will be back !
(5)Shawn K.
Good place to eat. They give you a nice size bowl of salsa, and keep the chips and salsa coming. The food was prepared well also. Would eat here again when in the area.

My favorite Mexican place nothing around compares. Addicting!
(5)Carlos B.
Carnitas- Good choice! Flavor was very good, portion is just adequate! Lime Margarita pitcher- best value! Great taste!
(4)Debra T.

Great food, and drink specials

(2)Chris C.
Like a hook up at a party...fun while it lasts...but ultimately lacking fulfillment. The highs: lots of tables, fun decor and fast service. The lows: watered down drinks, watery salsa and average fare.
(2)Steve H.
The food is fair and the decor is really cool, but it's over priced. If you're looking for a deal on Mexican food, this is not the place to go. With over a dozen other Mexican joints nearby, Riviera Maya fails to stand out.
(2)Rae Ann P.

(4)Cory S.

The food and drinks are good... The service could have been a little friendlier.

(5)Kylee W.
(3)Jessica S.
I've been back now several times, including dinner and large groups. They're now my favorite local Mexican place. Staff is always friendly and fast, food is excellent, chips and salsa always fresh, and margaritas are strong! What more could you ask for?
(5)Mona S.
Nice decor and big food portions. Lunch has pretty cheap deals.
(4)Rachel L.

(5)Christy B.
My favorite Mexican place in Fishers. I love the Quesadilla Mazatlan, although it is big enough for my husband and I to split. The food is very good. The service is usually fast. This is the same restaurant as The Real Hacienda in Anderson. Very kid friendly.
(4)Jeanne V.
(5)Chris L.

(4)Stephanie M.

Very clean, up-to-date, and inviting atmosphere! The service was fantastic and the food was delicious! I will be coming back here again and again!
(4)Alex K.
Having eating here for the third time and I do not intend to return. Poor service and food is below average at best. If this restaurant was located in Texas or the Southwest it would not make it.
(1)Ashley B.
I'm loco for riviera maya!! Best Mexican food ever- love the fajitas and the decor. It reminds me of the pirates of Caribbean ride at Disney world! Great service, tasty food and good beer specials.
(5)Andrea H.
The quality of the service can vary here. We seem to get the worst service when they are not busy and no one comes back to check on you. Food is good and reasonably priced. The interior is very nicely decorated and it is family friendly.
(4)Susan A.
Never going back,
(1)Terri C.
(4)Tom M.
Went in for lunch. Decent food. Nice interior design, but might get loud on a busy Friday or Saturday night(all hard surfaces)
(3)Cliff S.
Very cool.
(4)Chris M.
(2)Kyle G.
Great food! My favorite thing is the Hildago, it is one of everything so you do not have to choose.
