Authentic dishes and delicious salad bar. Beautiful decor and helpful staff. I enjoyed my chorizo torta and my spouse loved his lengua salsa verde. The location is peaceful as well. The salsa/condiment bar is a great touch. I recommend checking this place out. We ordered. Sat down. They sometimes bring your dish or call your recipe number. You empty your plate in the trash at the back and put your plate in the bins there. The BEST fried ice cream in the area!

Good food and quick service! $1 tacos on Monday, the shredded beef are the best, you can skip the chicken and ground beef options.

While it may not be a ritzy-glitzy artisan Bakersfield taco, Pancho's tacos really pack a punch in the flavor department. Real Mexican street tacos don't come sprinkled with shredded cheese, lettuce, taco sauce, and a dollop of sour cream. At Pancho's, for those who don't like onions and cilantro on their tacos, it comes completely naked with just a heaping meat pile. You can dress it up however you like at the salsa bar. For $2 each ($1 Mondays on shredded chicken, beef, or ground beef), you can definitely make fancy faux look-a-like foodie tacos if you're creative. These are mammoth tacos. I ordered 4 (asada, carnita, cabeza, and pastor) of these behemoth babies and I was struggling after the 2nd. Definitely not stingy on the protein. My absolute favorites (can't choose just 1) are the pastor (seasoned pork) and cabeza (shredded beef head). I was all giddy when the pastor came with small chunks of pineapple since a lot of other taco joints omit that. The cabeza was juicy and flavorful. I must've spent 5 minutes over at the salsa bar sprinkling cilantro, onions, pico de gallo, drenching my tacos in red and green sauces. The pickled carrots were a nice touch. Really addictive and complements the tacos well. Now I've finally found an affordable place close by to get my legit street taco fix. #tacoaddict #needtogobackformore

I had high hopes for this Mexican restaurant, as all the reviews I read praised this place for its authentic Mexican food. Alas, it doesn't live up to the hype. I ordered a bean, rice and cheese burrito and a chicken taco. The chicken taco was very bland, and the chicken looked as if it was boiled. From the reviews I read, I knew that the tacos came plain and you were supposed to add condiments like salsa, onions, etc. However, the taco should be able to stand alone, I feel, without dumping a bunch of salsa on it to give it flavor. This tasted like boiled chicken. The bean, cheese and rice burrito was also bland. Not much more to say about it, as it was forgettable. Look, I know this place is in Fishers in the middle of Indiana, and you have to cater to your customers' tastes, but I KNOW those guys in the back of the kitchen know what real Mexican food should taste like, so to serve the kind of food they're dishing out at this restaurant makes me sad. Oh well -- onto the next Mexican restaurant ...

Love this place. Growing up on the southside of Chicago I have craved some good (AKA authentic) Mexican food. Enter Pancho's. I used to live right across the street and had never stopped in. How disappointed am I to now know of this treasure on the border of Fishers and Indy!? Its a bit pricey for Mexican, but oh so worth it compared what the other options are. You want cheap, go to Taco Bell, want REAL Mexican land a table at Pancho's. everything from the made fresh salsas, rice and bean platters, mariachi music, and Mexican chefs set the feel all around! Anyone I have ever recommended this to has NEVER been disappointed. Steak nachos that rival where I used to order in Chicago.

I really enjoyed the authentic soft tacos with carnitas, pork tamale, and pollo sombroso. I will definitely be back...

How does that saying go...there's no account for taste or something like that? My first experience with Pancho's tells me that it is in fact good. I had tacos and a tamale. The taco special comes with two tacos, refried beans, salad and rice. The nacho chips are fried when you order them and there's a good selection of sauces. So yeah, it seemed pretty authentic (heck - lots of the menu was in actual Mexican...I mean Spanish). Service was good and the place is very clean. So yeah, 4 stars. I almost gave it 5 stars to offset the few other reviews, but that wouldn't keep me in the "real people real reviews" category now would it Mr. or Ms. "I'm the Yelp Keep-em Honest Sleuth"? Hey - while you're sleuthing around this review, hit me up with a compliment or FUC me or something - just a little sign your out there... This place is my new hobby - multiple return visits and review updates leading to a stack up of 4 real review stars. We'll get Pancho's up in the 3 range in no time!

Good food with generous portions. Read a review about no meat in portions and im not sure if they changed owners or read the below posts but this was not an issue. Home made chips Home made tortillas Would go back any time

Pancho's is one of my favorite go-to lunch places. I love their burrito lunch special, especially with the pork, which they slow-roast and is sooo good. I love their salsa bar, I can't get enough of the pickled jalapenos and I tend to make a whole salad from the fixings on the salsa bar. My favorite combination is the pork burrito with my own mixture from the salsa bar. I cut up pickled jalapenos and carrots, mix it with their pico, onions, cilantro, and verde salsa - then squeeze a lime over it all.

Amazing! The real deal. Homemade chips that come out warm! Great guacamole and vegetarian tacos! Love the topppings/ salsa bar! Fast service. Looks like all the tables ( except a few booths) have beautiful hand carved chairs! Very Diego Rivera....

I miss it that it's moved from its original 71st/Michigan Rd location. The food is authentic down to the tripe soup! To make it better is the salsa bar..yasss!! Their guacamole and friend chips are the bomb.com ! Tucked away on 96th and Allisonville next to the Kolache factory...this is a must visit for awesome Mexican food.

Love this place! I travel to Austin, TX. a lot for work and have had some great tex-mex & Mexican food. This is fairly close. We've tried several items off the menu and all have been good. Great burritos, tacos, fajitas, etc... We like the corn tortillas and salsa station. Great place not on everyone's radar...

I live close to this place but had never tried it. I went in there for the first time last week. The food was delicious, they have some unique and authentic items, and the prices were very reasonable. I've been there 3 times in the past week.

Mui Saboroso My daughter Anna and I rolled in on a Friday night, hungry for REAL Mexican food. We had been out shopping and it was past the point of cooking at home, so I suggested Pancho's. Let me tell you, I know traditional Mexican food, Mexican lunch truck food and this place serves up THE bomb daddy of tacos around Indy. The Lengua was tender and creamy as it should be. The pastor had nice little cubes of onion and pineapple to compliment the pork. We chowed down. BIGTIME !!!!! Their tacos are served naked and you add the onions, cilantro, jalapeno and whatever salsa you like from the nice salsa/ condiment bar. I am most definitely going to become a regular and hit the place on the weekend for Menudo and Posole. They have a great beer selection as well as plenty of Mexican sodas as well as Horchata. YOU GUYS ROCK !!!!

  • Stephanie T.

OK so my daughter and I were looking for Mexican food and we saw this restaurant so we pulled in. I read a few reviews on yelp and decided this was the place. When I walked into the restaurant immediately felt like it's more of a order at the counter and take it with you kind of place unless, you're one of the regulars... I guess? Because when I said we were eating in, the guy at the counter looked annoyed. It definitely was not what I would call, friendly service...Except when I asked for a take-home box, then the guy basically jumped up and literally ran to give it to me...very strange. Then, I thought, maybe he just felt sorry for being rude to me earlier...!. The food was really delicious and the fresh salsa was almost as good as my homemade. Overall, I would give the food a 4/5 star, atmosphere... maybe a 3 but friendly & courteous a 1.

I've been to several parts of Mexico and many restaurants there, from holes in the wall to fine dining. Pancho's is the real deal, especially for tacos and agua frescas. Skip the ground beef and chicken and go for cabeza, chorizo, carnitas and pastor. Try the light green-colored Yucateca salsa. And don't be afraid to try the fried tripe-surprisingly tasty and not gamey in the least. Also, the chiles rellenos are great, too. My favorite Mexican place in the city by far, and better even than most places I've been in Mexico!

Definitely the best chips and queso/guac I've ever had. Didn't eat a meal but we'll definitely be back. Workers were welcoming, portions were big for the price, very pleasantly surprised that we came across this place.

Very high quality steak that they put in the affordable steak tacos! Everything tastes fresh and delicious and awesome, every time we've been here!

Authentic Mexican. This is not the sit down and get free chip and salsa type of place. But this is really really good authentic Mexican food. They have a salsa bar with several types of aalsa ...all very good. Massive portion sizes here. 2 people could easily share a chimichanga or quesidilla. I had to order some chips...so glad I did. They are excellent. Thus place rocks! I will be back. I will be back.

I don't know what I can say about Pancho's that hasn't been said already. The lengua and carnitas tacos are fantastic, and I look forward to trying the other options. $2.09 buys you a taco of your choice. On Mondays some of the tacos are on special for $1.00. Extras are optional and cost, well, extra. This isn't really necessary though, as the salsa bar offers fresh tomatoes, onions, pico de gallo and cilantro in addition to an array of yummy salsas. The "spicy" salsa is good but doesn't really pack much heat. I think they are probably catering specifically to a Hoosier palette here. As many have already said, the green Yucateca salsa is great. I love guacamole, and Pancho's does a good job, but it could be made better by the addition of both salt and lime juice. I went on a busy Friday evening. I had to wipe down my own table and there was some garbage strewn about the floor, which is basically the only reason I'm giving Pancho's four stars rather than five. I look forward to going back!

My wife and I were wanting to try a New Mexican place in Indy when we were in town visiting and this place had a good rating. The picture that was on yelp was a little deceiving because it looked like it was a buffet (it's actually a salsa bar). However, the food was fantastic! The chips and bean/cheese dip was awesome and our entrees were delicious too. We stopped in for lunch, I had the burrito lunch special and my wife had the flautas. Both were delicious!! The food was great, the service was upbeat and friendly, and the restaurant was clean. We will definitely be back!! Great find!!

My wife and I used to come here once every two weeks or so. The food quality WAS fantastic. Our last two visits, within the last two weeks, have both been very bad. Ingredients, preparation, and freshness have all nose dived. We're very disappointed. Due to the million Mexican places at similar prices and better food within a mile or two, we won't be returning anytime soon.

For what they do and offer this is a five star place. The taco varieties and salsa bar destroy any competitor that I have found in the Indianapolis area by far. Also, I have yet to find a Mexican place that offers tortas or Mexican sandwiches besides this place. Everything is fresh and clean and on point. It might be handy to speak a little Spanish but if not you will be fine. Just get some tacos and a large cervesa and try something new. This is the place to do it.

Love this place. Authentic, authentic, authentic. 3 tacos @ $2.09 each. I had one steak, pork and chicken. All delicious. Prices are reasonable. Been here 6 times now and satisfied each time.

We were craving Mexican of the authentic-sort on the north side, and Yelp steered us towards Pancho's with promises of seldom-seen types of meat and a salsa bar...in Fishers. I liked the informal set-up; you go up to the counter, frantically decide on what to order, and then pick up your finished dish once called out by the kitchen staff. Without a more in-depth menu to guide me, I blurted out "torta"...then "lengua", with a side of chips, while my partner ordered a chicken burrito. I noticed that agua frescas and margaritas were available, but stuck to water. Our food came out fairly quick, and was hot and fresh. The chips were freshly fried and kind of melted in my mouth....weird thing to say about tortilla chips, but apt for Pancho's version. The beef tongue was flavored well and had the texture of a very tender beef pot roast. The torta also came with huge chunks of avocado, tomato, mayo, etc; great sandwich, not Torta Guicho-Etc. caliber, but satisfying (and accompanied by a side of rice and refried beans). My favorite part about Pancho's was the salsa bar, especially the spicy creamy green "Yucateca" sauce...which may have been avocado-based. This sauce should be poured over evverrrrything. I tried to google a taste-a-like recipe afterwards without much success. My partner thought his chicken burrito was okay, but did not utilize the salsa bar's magical powers. The place was very clean, including the bathroom. Overall, I was very happy with our 1st Pancho's visit, a good, fairly authentic take on Mexican and dinner for two for less than $20....and that dream-worthy green sauce, which has definitely made my personal pantheon of all-time best Indy sauces.

We went to this place on a dark and rainy night when we didn't want to cook. Mexican sounded awesome but we didn't feel like venturing far from home. It was good, but considering it's two blocks from our house we've never once made the trip back, or even really wanted to. I sort of felt like we were an inconvenience to the workers in the place, and the food didn't stick out as particularly unique. If you're looking for some quick, standard Mexican fare, it's good for that, but you won't be wowed by it.

  • Alison Y.

Went in today craving their lengua tacos only to find out they were out :( But it's ok! I found this as an opportunity to venture to other foods....haha! I got a chorizo taco and shredded beef taco (on Mondays, shredded beef, ground beef, and shredded chicken tacos are only $1). The chorizo was super tasty - much more seasoned than the lengua. The shredded beef was mixed with some type of tomato sauce or something...not sure if it was a marinade or just a sauce. The meat was good but again not that flavorful by itself even with the sauce. The tacos are consistently filled with more than enough meat and two tacos (with salsa and toppings) filled me up for lunch! Yum yum yummmm!

This restaurant has HANDS DOWN the best tamale I have had since I was a child. Everything we ordered was perfection and beyond. Thank you to this entire establishment for what was the best lunch I've had in this city in a long long time. I was almost moved to tears by how incredible this was.

3.5 stars. Above average food, great prices, more authentic than a lot of Indy Mexican restaurants, very clean... And featuring a salsa bar! We sampled: Guacamole and chips made to order Tacos: fish and pastor Carnitas entrée with sides of rice and beans Shrimp tostada All the salsas in the salsa bar Everything was fresh and flavorful. The pastor taco stood out, as the meat was cooked with pineapple and onions. The shrimp tostada was basically ceviche on a taco shell - damn good. Though high quality, the chips and guacamole weren't seasoned...at all. Probably would skip these in the future. Try it!

It's just wonderful. Fast, friendly, great prices, delicious food. I frequent this place because it's close to my apartment and have never once been less than absolutely satisfied.

  • Junie D.

I tried this place out after reading so many good reviews, just to do something different. This is not a sit-down Mexican place -- it's an order at the counter, help yourself place...at sit-down prices plus. I don't mind spending a few bucks for good food, but I was a little surprised at my total bill. Chips are extra. Guacamole comes in one size -- a lot and not especially tasty. The food was fresh. But as another reviewer said, I felt my business was not really appreciated. There are two Mexican restaurants much closer to home and both are very friendly. I'll probably eat at those two.

When you walk in and actually see Hispanic people chowin down you know youre getting some delicious Mexican cuisine. Prices are great too! Perfect lunch stop if you work off 96th street

The chicken and chorizo tacos were both awesome. Definitely get some of the homemade chips and any of the variety of salsas. This takes a close second as our favorite Mexican restaurant, only behind the Tamale Place across town.

Pancho's is a tasty authentic Mexican restaurant at the corner of 96th and Allisonville. My first visit was on a Monday for $1 taco day. The tacos are pretty tasty and come on house-made corn soft shells. The tacos were delicious and for $4, I had a full meal. The $1 tacos, though, don't come with lettuce or cheese, which seemed a bit strange at first. Between ground beef, chicken, or shredded beef, I recommend the shredded beef - it's deliciously juicy and the most flavorful of the bunch!

  • Benjamin B.

I stopped by today and had a few tacos for lunch. Buche, Lengua, Cabeza, al Pastor... all were delicious. I've had a little difficulty finding a good taqueria here in Indy, but this place is very nice, very clean, and the salsas are all great. It's also pretty cheap, though not as cheap as taco trucks I've found in other cities, but hey, you get a nice place to sit for the extra money and a soccer game to watch on TV. Authentic tacos in a nice setting.

The guacamole is brilliant. I'd bathe in it. This place is an absolute gem, and it's far and away the best Mexican food in Fishers!

This is one of my boyfriend and I's favorite places to eat. I am addicted to their tortas! I always get the torta de carnitas (roasted pork) with rice and beans. The meat is tender, the bread is fresh and toasted or grilled (with butter I think), and it comes with mayo, tomato, and avocado. So yummy! They also have a salsa bar with tons of different salsas to get. I usually get the spicy avocado one (yucateca) for the torta and the habanero or mild red one to mix with my rice. You order up front and then they call you and you bring your own food to the table. The tables are nicer than your typical self-serve restaurant. One time I had a margarita here and it was also very good. The employees always remember us and joke with me about my order.

TES YES YES at last a real taqueria for me to go to!!! Real Mexican food the kind you would find in Mexico, not in most Tex Mex joints around town. The best part it Pancho's is on the North side of town, not on Washington Ave. or the near west side. You need to go here with an open mind. some of the items are not the run of the mill and maybe strange to the Midwest taste, but try something new today and every time you come here!!! Live well and eat well and please no chains!

As good as it gets in Indiana and I don't mean that as an insult, it's really quite authentic. Make sure you order the chips and salsa.

  • Ken N.

Good Mexican food. I can't judge how authentic it is like other reviewers but the whole family enjoyed it. Their salsa bar is nice, with the usual array of sauces plus fresh cilantro, chopped onions and dried chiles. Decor is basic diner-type, to be expected for the price point. Will definitely go back.

Tasty hot salsa. Great traditional tacos - corn tortillas! Worth visiting for the food. Nice taco bar with pico and salsa ranging from habanero-hot to mild enough for a midwesterner (i.e. plain tomato paste). The restaurant? It is an informal order-at-the-counter place where you bus your own table. They called my number a few minutes after ordering. The chips are hot and freshly made but a bit greasy. Expect the bill to reflect $12-15 per person before tip. Pro tip: although the menu indicates otherwise, the lunch menu is available on Sunday, just without the drink included. It's apparently the only way to order tamales, which are very good. Kids menu is not on the menu, it's posted on the sign above the cash register. The place was hot, uncomfortably hot. The chairs are the kind that don't slide on the floor. As you push toward the table, the chairs catch on the floor and tip over. The "ambiance" music was deafeningly loud and denied us mealtime conversation. When we left the restaurant, the outdoor quietness was shocking in comparison as our eardrums recovered, like when you leave a loud concert or dance club. Other than being nearly unbearably hot, loud, and uncomfortable, the food was some of the tastiest around. Turn up the A/C and down the music, it would be 5 stars.

Stopped in for the first time today for lunch. I had one each of the fish and chorizo tacos. They were fresh and delicious, but the fish was definitely better than the chorizo. The fish was tender and flaky inside, crunchy on the outside, and did nicely with some squirts of lime and added salsa. The chorizo had a lot of flavor but was dry. The rice and beans were so much more flavorful than anywhere else I've tried, I couldn't stop eating them. I look forward to going back.

I'm veg and am always interested in what I can get mexican places to put in a burrito. I said "Todo los vegetables and they did it. This burrito had beans, rice, broc, grilled onions, mushrooms, peppers... 9 bucks with a side of rice and beans, plus it felt nice that there were no gringos around. Check out the salsa bar. It has the fire.

I grew up in Mexico City, and I LOVE Mexican food. So, I was amazed at the fact that the food at Pancho's was the BEST Mexican food I've eaten since I left Mexico! Fantastic flavors and a hugely authentic feel. Now I'm bummed that I live 45 minutes away...

Just when I thought the jinx was over, I ended up at this place. This place was recommended to me by two Mexican Americans. One guy went so far as to say they have "tacos better than Mexico." I have been skeptical of Mexican food since I got to Indy, and this visit didn't do anything to change it. I will say this place has more of an authentic selection than your typical Mexican chain restaurant. They had menudo, pozole, a variety of tacos (al pastor, lengua, cabeza, tripe, etc...), then even had aguas refrescas. Let it be said though just because a place is authentic, doesn't mean they are good. I thought about getting a variety of tacos, but I really felt like a burrito al pastor, so I rocked one out. The wifey got a "colorado" burrito with asada. To say this place was disappointing would be an understatement. My burrito was more rice than meat, and by the end of it, that's all I was eating. My wife's burrito was more beans and rice than asada. Heck, even the horchata wasn't up to bar. I think I've had better instant stuff than what they were serving. Overall- $7 for a rice burrito? No thanks. My disdain for Mexican food in Indy continues. Movie Star Rating- the chihuahua from "Beverly Hills Chihuahua"

First off I was expecting a sit-down restaurant, but that was not the case. That just caught me off guard, but did not discourage me from eating there. I ordered Pancho's chicken chimichanga, because I was with a friend who highly recommended the other location in Indy on Michigan Road. After waiting almost 20 minutes I finally got my meal, which turned out to be pretty good. Everything had great flavor and it was a large meal, which I needed after a long day at work. The salsa bar was great. I chose the XHot sauce, and wasn't too impressed with the heat. It was a great flavor booster though! The only complaints I have are the slow service and they kept changing the music and turning it way up. I would recommend calling ahead and not planning on eating in the restaurant or to try the Michigan Road location.

By far my favorite Mexican food in this city. Authentic, fresh, cooked to order, a lot of food for your money, and it's all delicious.

Another visit, another three amazing tacos. The pastor is quite simply out of this world - balanced, subtle pineapple flavors that bring the pork to a whole new level. The chorizo taco was once again perfectly spicy and crispy. For my third taco, I tried the lengua taco ... and it was unlike other beef tongue I've ever had. What's it like? Extremely tender with a very pleasant beefy flavor. FYI for the budget conscious, the lengua taco costs $2.29 instead of the normal $1.99 price. I say it's worth the 30 cent splurge and I'll probably now order it half of the time when I visit Pancho's!

  • Byron J.

This place lacked anything that would qualify it as a "restaurant." Namely service and good food. Prior to last night I had never had bad Mexican food, and never met a chimichanga I didn't like. Now I am scarred. The bad things just kept coming at Pancho's. The lady behind the counter failed to greet me, other diners were obnoxiously loud and the food tasted like the grease it came out of. The steak in my chimi had no flavor and the peppers hijacked any chance the other ingredients had of shining through. They do have beer specials, and I assume that is so you can wash down the bad memory of a lack luster dinner. The salsa bar was a nice touch but the sauce I had, labeled "XHot" had no flavor or heat. So what is there to look forward to about Pancho's? Nothing, don't even bother.

Incredibly hot salsa at the salsa bar. Wash it down with Sol Mexican beer!

  • Matt N.

Great food! Food is made from scratch and onsite! Just look behind the counter to see all the various pots simmering away. Salsa bar is very fresh and the selection is great. Their nacho lunch special on Friday is a great deal at $6.99. Huge portions and very authentic food. If you have a palate that is used to El Rodeo and the other various "authentic" Mexican restaraunts in the city then avoid this place at all cost. It is very authentic and their food quality and preperation reflect. I would advise anyone who enjoys real Mexican food to give this place a try. You won't be dissapointed.

  • Chad D.

This is the best taqueria that I'm aware of in Indy. Pancho's is certainly not for the chain-restaurant palate. The carnitas tacos with onion, cilantro, and the hot verde sauce from the salsa bar with rice and beans on the side are to die for. It's the basics done properly. If you're looking to be dazzled by decor, presentation, or service, go elsewhere. If you want delicious food, go up to the counter, order, wait for your order number to be called, pick up your plate and enjoy.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
