Chinese Cuisine
The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.
Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.
There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.

King Chef is my family's go-to spot for Chinese food. The service is always friendly and fast. I like the complimentary tea. We've tried a lot of dishes on the menu and they've all been flavorful and fresh. I especially recommend the sizzling tofu, mu shu vegetable, and the shrimp dishes like ginger shrimp and princess prawns.

This is truly one of my favorite Chinese restaurants. The food is always delicious and fresh. The lunches are reasonably priced and portions generous. The service is always great. I love that I never have to ask for hot tea. It is always there - hot and delicious. It has spoiled me from eating at other Chinese restaurants.

I got the combination lo main. It was disgusting. Threw most of it away. Won't be going back! Worst Chinese food I've ever had.

Tried this place for the first time tonight, as we are fairly new to the area. Very disappointed. General Tso's chicken had no flavor and the texture of the crust was soggy. Potstickers had the thickest dough I've ever seen and were overcooked. Crab Rangoon was burnt and tasteless.

I was really happy with this meal. It is tucked away in a maze of strip malls in Fishers. I am unfamiliar with the area and I'd have a hard time retracing my step without a map. Vegetarian food is clearly marked, even the soup. The Szechuan broccoli was tasty, but too mild (only complaint when retuning I will ask for more heat). We came at lunch on a Saturday to few patrons and splendid service. The lunch specials are huge and $5-$6. Big enough to save and have lunch another day.

I heard two great reviews about this place from people I know. One of them decided to invite me. The style of Chinese restaurant made this place different. The food was ok. The best food item was the fried wonton strips. I had the moo-shu chicken which had 4 Chinese pancakes (looking like flour tortilla to me). I did not care for the sauce (maybe plum sauce). The menu stated Chinese mushroom (unlike most of the other descriptions) so I hoped they were shiitake mushrooms, but they were portabella mushrooms. The size of the entrée was big. My entree' came with a few other items. They offer hot tea but it tasted a little watered down; I am not a fan of tea anyways. The egg drop soup was alright but was not as yellow as I have seen them. The rice come in a small container for the whole table. We were given each a fortune cookie. I tried the other dishes that the other people ordered but did not find them outstanding either.

I came here mostly for nostalgia. About 10 years ago, I used to come here all the time...and it was my favorite Chinese place. I moved away about 10 years ago and came back to Indy about 3 years ago. Since then, I have not been back until just now. I was afraid that I over-valued this place in my head due to the nostalgia....and I was right. :( Unless quality has decreased, this place is now just OK...like any other Ma & Pa Chinese place. Prices are great however for lunch!

The song killing me softly started playing on the speakers as our tasteless meal was finishing up. The song was a reminder of what King Chef was doing to me. Killing me softly! Food was blah. Our kids had the beef teriyaki that came out of a bag of beef jerky. While I had the pepper steak that lacked peppers. Anyways, we won't be heading back to see the king anytime soon as he was killing me softly with his food.

Some of the best Chinese food in town. I have never had a bad meal from this place. We generally do take out and it always takes longer than they say it will, but its worth it. You just need to be a little patient.

This isn't the worst Chinese food I've ever eaten (that honor goes to a little place in Costa Rica), but it's probably the second worst. We've ordered carryout from here a few times, and each time I've been disappointed at the weird flavors in their food. This last time, we ordered pretty standard stuff for Americanized Chinese - Mu Shu Chicken, General Tso's Chicken, and Crab Rangoon. Usually, these are fairly easy wins for Chinese places, but not so at King Chef. Maybe what they're giving us is actually closer to traditional Chinese food...I don't know enough about the real version of Chinese to say for sure, but what I do know is that I don't like what they make. There's a weird blandness to it, combined with an overall oddness to those flavors that you can actually taste. It really sucks on the second day when you stare helplessly into your fridge at the leftovers - do you choke them down, knowing you won't enjoy a bite of it, or do you throw them out, lamenting the waste of money and food? Tough call. It's a shame, too, because this is the closest Chinese place to us. Nonetheless, the next time the husband wants to get Chinese, I'll lobby for driving a little further to get something decent.

Great Chinese restaurant. Eat here 3+ times a week.... Good food. Excellent service. Fair prices.... Locally owned and operated. I am totally in love with this restaurant their food...

We ordered take out from here last week and this place was recommended by a coworker of mine. Our #1 choice for Chinese food in the area is Ming's Wok in Carmel, so it was very difficult for us to make a change and try someone new for the first time since moving here. But we thought, why not? Since we live about 8 minutes or so from the restaurant, I ordered over the phone on my way there. The man on the other end was nice enough and said it would be about 15 minutes. I was finishing up a podcast so I just sat in the parking lot until it was time for me to head in for the food. It looked like there were a lot of people ordering out that night and I was excited because that means that there's a lot of people that like this place! I went in, waited another 5 minutes or so, and my food was ready. I get home, undo the packaging and the food looks great! After plating everything, my husband and I sit down on the couch and start chowing down. I ordered the General Tso's and he ordered the Lo Mein. The fried rice was really different here. My husband said it tasted like a petting zoo smelled...which can't be good. I didn't think it was that bad, but it wasn't Ming's. We also ordered some Crab Rangoon and this had a weird taste as well. The spring rolls weren't much of anything either. All in all, it was pretty much a fail for us. My General Tso's was good, but without great fried rice, all you have is flavored chicken. I think we'll just stick with Ming's.

Not what it use to be!! Many awards and accolades on the walls. However, most are from years ago. Had not been in for awhile so decided to have a late lunch (2:30). Ordered shrimp lomein off the lunch menu. Great price for lots of food. For $6 got main course, egg roll, soup, rice, and hot tea. Unfortunately the old saying "you get what you pay for" rang true today. The entire plate of food was lacking taste. The soup was not had, but everything else was very bland. The egg roll was so full of oil/grease it fell apart upon my handling it. I chose not to take my left overs he with me I noticed two others diners who also left a fair amount of food on their plates.

From the outside, it doesn't look like much. But coming in, it is a really pleasant atmosphere. Very clean and elegant. Prompt and courteous service. I didn't expect this from a casual Chinese place. The waitress was actually friendly and was courteous enough to suggest vegetarian options and bring us extra chilli sauce. Tea is included with meal. Food was good, perhaps a bit oily. Overall, very affordable. We spent $7 each for lunch and it was a generous portion.

This was a very nice restaurant (clean, white table cloths, great service) with good food and good value ($26 for 2 people) but I was expecting more in the food department and I was underwhelmed. I believe it's worth 3 stars but my expectations were set too high. The one thing that always turns me off in a Chinese restaurant is when you order chow mien and you get those flat noodles. They had those. I was expecting this to compare with the Mandarin Inn or the Golden Phoenix back in the day but just didn't get it for me.

It has been awhile since we ate here but we use to come here quite often. It was our go to Chinese restaurant...notice I said was. Wow I don't know what happened since the last time I ate there but I can tell you I will not be back. I ordered the veggie spring rolls and the sizzling triple to go. When I got home and started eating I was utterly disappointed. The spring rolls were disgusting. They were soggy, burnt, doughy and flavorless. They tasted like they were previously frozen, then cooked in the morning and left sitting outside then warmed back up in a microwave when I ordered. Gross... Now for the not so sizzling triple. It was so bad that I only ate the rice. It contained shrimp, chicken, beef, broccoli, snow peas and something else. I think that I could literally bounce the shrimp of the wall. It's like I was chewing on rubber bands. The chicken and beef were dry and had a funny taste as if the meat was old. It was very bland and unappetizing. It was so horrible that after two bites I threw it away because I thought I would get food poisoning. When I first picked up the food I was excited because I remembered how much I enjoyed it. I guess I should have left it as a memory.

Yuck!!! I used to enjoy this restaurant years ago, but will not be returning since they changed management. A group of people from work decided to order carry out. I got the General tso chicken with rice and soup. The soup was edible, but it was not hot and didn't have a lot of flavor. The worst part was finding a long HAIR wrapped up in the chicken!! I was absolutely disgusted to find a hair in my food! My chicken was nearly inedible. This was absolutely the most disgusting meal I have ever had. I have told my friends not to return. Gross!!!!!! Wish I could give this place 0 stars!!!

All of the reviews are correct. I was advised by a clerk at a shoe store that it was good. I ordered carry out today. It was worse than mall chinese. Small portions and high prices. I ordered the dinner portions, but if this is what they would have served in the restaurant, would have gone away hungry

Food is bland and tasteless. How can you make King Pow with no peppers? Service was fast and the kids like the bowls of candy on the tables, but there are so many better choices around.
(2)Adam J.
I've never posted anything before, but the food at King Chef was so bad I knew I had to let others know. I ordered the General Tso and Crab Rangoon. I can't even use the word tasteless because you could for sure taste the horrible food you were eating. I've always gone to Chow Express (shadeland/71st) but they were closed today. Bottom line don't waste your money at king chef. I have so many questions regarding their ingredients! Yuck!

Great food for a great price...went for lunch. You get a lot of bang for your buck here! Everyone enjoyed their meal and service was pretty quick, just a little impersonable. Would make this a regular lunch spot if I lived in town.

We came on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn't too crowded. We got two appetizers, the spring rolls and crab Rangoon, both delicious. My boyfriend and I both got an entree and drinks. Best part was, our tab was only $22. Atmosphere seems a little outdated, plastic covered chairs and boring interior. With the food being so good, I hardly was bothered with it. We will definitely be back.

I used to really, really like King Chef. I've worked in Fishers for more than 10 years so I've been eating at King Chef about that long. Lately, it seems like the quality has gone downhill. I've to stop ordering chicken dishes there because it tastes funny to me; today I had the Hunan beef lunch. The beef was fatty and the sauce was bland. My soup was barely warm. My drink was never refilled and the waitress brought the check with our meals, so my coworker had to flag down another server for a box. Disappointing.

A local favorite tucked into a quaint strip mall off 96th street & I-69. You'll be pleasantly surprised at your dine in experience, with a family ready to provide great service with a smile. It's no surprise that its packed most days during lunch. The atmosphere is nicer than most and very clean. The quality of tradtional chinese american fare exceptional, with enough variety to please a picky eater. My youngest, age 6, enjoyed being served ice water in a 'wine glass' and tasting the pot of hot tea served with each meal. We always leave full and almost feeling guilty that it was so inexpensive!

Not what it used to be. I sense that the new owners are struggling after the previous managers retired. I would not be surprised if it closes in 2014. I highly recommend Thai Kitchen as an alternative.

Food is not cold I guess. I got no flavor. Very generic and not authentic dishes. Maybe they have a Chinese only menu somewhere but I order a Szechuan chicken dish and I got some Leann Chin looking tepid mix of veggies and bland chicken. Literally no spice in this.

I've been here twice and both times I was disappointed. The first time I ate in the restaurant. I did enjoy the hot tea and the Crab Rangoons. However, I got my favorite dish, Sesame Chicken. The chicken was not that great, it seemed like it was overcooked. So I decided to try one more time, this time I got take out and ordered my second favorite dish, Lemon Chicken. When I was eating it, the breading was pure mush, it was not good at all. Very disappointed and will not try them for a third time.

This place is awesome, definitely one of the best sit down chinese restaurants in Indy. They have a huge selection of chinese and american-chinese favorites and one of the best deals is the "Dinner for 2,3,4" You get soup, a pupu platter, entrees and desert all for a reasonable price depending on how many people you go with. If you are looking for something other than a buffet then give this place a shot

NOT a good experience tonight! We were promptly seated by a friendly host but that is where it ended! Out waitress came to the table and took our drink orders. She came back with hot tea and we told her we wanted to give her an appetizer order. She said she would be right back and came back 5 minutes later. We got the appetizer in a fair amount of time and gave the waitress our dinner order. The appetizer was hot and delicious. After she took our dinner order, we sat for 25 minutes. We watched people come in, be seated, order, get their meal and start eating and still no food. Our orders were very simple, off the menu standard fare. And our waitress never came to our table to check on us. In fact, we could not find her to inquire about the delay. Finally the meal was served with no apology or explanation. She simply sat the food down and darted away and I do mean darted, The food was luke warm and tasteless. We could not get the attention of anyone and our waitress was no where to be found, Finally, a young man acting as host came by the table and asked if everything was OK and I said, "No, not really". He said, "That's nice" and walked on. I really think it was a language barrier issue. I don't think he really understood me. We waited a good 10 minutes after we were done eating and still absolutely no sign of our waitress, I flagged down the same host and asked for our check and a to-go box as we had eaten only a small portion of the meal. (Never were we asked if we wanted desert nor was our pot of tea ever checked or refreshed) When I took the check to the front counter, the lady running the register who is one of the owner/managers asked me how everything was and I told her the whole story. (Still, our waitress was no where to be seen) I explained to her that the food was luke warm and had obviously been sitting for quite awhile before being served and that we never saw the waitress after the food was served. I even inquired as to where she was right then as we had not seen her for 20 minutes or more and the manager just shrugged her shoulders! The owner/manager said they were short one waitress and that ours was new and said: "I'm sorry". She then took my credit card and ran it for the full amount of the check with no further comment. Last time I ever visit there.

Great Chinese takeout. If you compare it to other Chinese places in Indy, it is the best. You can even get Pad Thai there and the food is fast.
(4)Neal P.
One of the best sit-down Chinese restaurants in town. Although it is located in an out-lot strip mall, this is not the typical walk-up Chinese joint. They come to your table and take your order. Real glass water glasses. Cloth napkins. Cloth tablecloths covered in glass. Stainless steel utensils. Real china plates. Wait staff is professional. A pot of hot tea is served automatically. The multi-page menu seems extensive, with plenty of regular (Mandarin?) and Szechuan and Hunan items. This might not be elegant-impress-the-boss worthy, or driving-clear-across-town worthy, but for this neck of the woods, this place is great for a relax-with-a-nice-meal.
(4)Rob R.
Can't beat this place for the price. Lunch is a great deal!
(4)Gary M.
Great tea served when you sit down and soups were fresh. Polite server and main entree was tasty and big servings. Definitely worth the money!
(4)Tasia L.
When I eat Chinese food I want one of two things: 1) that it's greasy and fried and everything a cardiologist hates or 2) that it's super fresh with lots of herbs and seasoning. Unfortunately, King Chef didn't offer up either. I gave it two chances..both carry-out...just to be fair, but both times I was let down. The prices are fair as all entrees come with soup, but the flavor just isn't there. I won't be giving King Chef another chance, Chicken Helper makes a not-too-shabby chicken fried rice, I'd rather have that.
(2)Cliff H.
As a new area resident I'm a little disappointed that the other reviews consider this one of the "best sit-down Chinese" restaurants in the area. My experience at this restaurant was mostly sub-par. The spring rolls were crispy on the outside but mushy on the inside. The orange chicken was overly battered and fried with very little chicken. I did enjoy my fortune cookie however.
(2)Jessie D.
My favorite chinese place. I used to go here in high school, get the garlic veggies and crab rangoon and study. I did this a bit into college as well until I moved downtown. Everyone is always really sweet and the food is always fresh and incredible. I make it a point to go back as much as possible.
