I've never dined in, only carried out sushi. This is the best sushi I've had in Evansville. The ingredients are fresh and the service is fast. Highly recommended.

This is one of our favorite stops to eat. Always great food and fair prices. Excellent service as well. Highly recommended.

Mixed review... just finished lunch here, I order a California roll & hibachi shrimp. This is not a place that cooks in front of you, you order they cook in back. The sushi was fresh & yummy, a little on the high side for a California roll at $5.75 but good. Now the hibachi on the other hand was very generic with not alot of flavor I have had better. the hibachi shrimp was $7.85 my veggies were pitiful- over cooked & tiny, the rice was plain fried rice not like typical hibachi with the eggs peas & carrots in it. Service was good. The restaurant was clean but a little warm. I would come back for sushi but not much else.

I love the sushi here! Best in Evansville, in my opinion. The staff is friendly and very attentive. Fish is always fresh and of excellent quality. Try it! You will not be disappointed.

I've been to several sushi places in town and this one is definitely at the top of my list. The service is wonderful. They start you off with a bowl of edamame. The portions are worth the prices. Definitely a bang for your buck. I recommend the Philadelphia Roll or Tuna Roll for something light. If you want something totally different and filling, try the Oh My God Roll. And if you don't like the sushi, they offer a variety of hibachi alternatives. Overall, excellent.

This place is worth checking out for a couple of reasons. First, the food is great. You can order from the hibachi grill without the added cost of watching them cook it in front of you. They bring you soy beans to munch on before the meal and the portions are large. This place is also doing some really cool things with their sushi rolls (which are larger than most rolls in my experience). I had a spicy tuna roll with coconut milk (I think) drizzled over the top. It was sweet yet spicy....excellent. Second, the atmosphere was minimalistic. They had a few things hanging on the walls and a fish tank. The only other piece was a massive tree sculpture of sea creatures (very cool). With light music playing, this would be a great place for a business lunch, a first date, or a deep philosophical debate. Third, and final, this place has a sake sampler (which I have never experienced before at a Japanese restaurant). Well done. I am going to go back very soon.

We really enjoyed our visit to Tokyo Japan Restaurant. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and the sushi was outstanding -- very fresh and tasty. We will be back!

One of my favorite places to eat. The staff is great and always friendly. My kids love coming here also. It's very reasonable priced. Must try

Always good food and service at very modest prices. The hibachi grilled meals are good, and half the price of the restaurants that are more focused on entertainment than just making good food. Sushi is always good and best prices in Evansville. I especially like the spicy tuna roll that is topped with sliced kiwi and coconut sauce.

one of the best sushi restaurants in town ! havent tried anything else but been back for sushi several times ! price is affordable too !

This place is very well hidden but believe me it is worth finding. I am in love with sushi and I have tried it many different places but nothing compares to Tokyo japan, I highly recommend the crunch shrimp roll if you have never had sushi before it's a starter because it's cooked shrimp and nothing raw. But if your feeling brave Defiantly try the OMG roll or the French Kiss Roll. You will not regret it. Now is sushi isn't your thing then no worries there hibachi is amazing to there's chicken, steak, and shrimp. Please give them a try.

The sushi here is real good. I just moved here and have been trying out several places around town for good sushi. Tokyo Japan is the best place in town to get good sushi so far that I have come across. I've been to about 6 different places around town. I have yet to try Roppongi wich I heard was really good as well. It's a hole in the wall joint, but I go eat for the quality of the sushi, and not the appearance of the restaurant. After all, appearances can be deceiving. Rolls range anywhere from $4 to $14, very reasonable prices. Although they don't have a vast amount of rolls, there are plenty to chose from. The spicy tuna is awesome-- with kiwi slices on top. Very good combination. I would not suggest getting Hibachi here. You aren't going to get the quality Hibachi as you would at a real Hibachi place. I only come here to eat sushi. Would highly recommend to try if you enjoy good sushi.

Pros: 1. Most of the food is pretty good and served at the proper temperature. 2. VERY affordable prices. You can't beat the hibachi menu for value. 3. The place is clean 4. Friendly service 5. Decor is simple, but it works. There are a couple flat screen TVs. Cons: 1. The fried rice is bland. I always have to mix in the sauce from another dish to make it tolerable. 2. When you order the egg roll sometimes you get a tasty spring roll and sometimes you get a made-from-frozen egg roll. (As other reviewers have mentioned, you should never get ketchup with these. Too bad they yet haven't fixed this yet). 3. Service is always friendly but sometimes their communication skills are lacking. Twice my phone-in carryout order was entered incorrectly. If you phone in your order I'd have them repeat it back to you or double check it before you leave. Tip: The hibachi meals are a good value, but I'd stick to the chicken only meal. You can pay more to get chicken + (beef, shrimp, or scallops) but they take away a bunch of the chicken even though you pay more for the extra item.

Prices are better than compared to most hibachi places because they don't cook the food in front of you, which is fine by me because I am hungry and want my food NOW! Most hibachi places serve soup and salad with the meal, and this place does not. No big deal. The food tasted good and the portions were very large. However, I do have a major problem...they served the potstickers and egg rolls with ketchup. you read that right....KETCHUP. One of the people I was dining with asked for sweet and sour sauce and the server didn't know what it was. I would have rather they been served with no sauce at all. If it weren't for the whole ketchup thing I would have given them another star. I doubt I will be going back.

Very comparable to other "expensive" Japanese restaurants, only about 1/3 the price. If you can do without the food juggling, and the corny jokes... this is the place to go for good hibachi steak.

So apparently this place is a favorite of my family and i've gotta say i'm with them on this one. What most impressed me was the price. The hibachi lunches are cheap and I have it on good authority that the amount of meat in their rolls is larger than other places in the area. I decided to go with the everything hibachi combo (the bonsai I believe) The chicken was the very good, the best of the four by far. The steak was good but nothing fantastic. The shrimp and scallops were ok nothing more. Gotta go with the chicken. The fried rice was also pretty good side but nothing i'd get excited about. Service was nice and they were even giving out fans to the mothers on mothers day.
