This is my favorite breakfast place in Evansville! The food is amazing. There are always people in there but for a small space, there's hardly any wait time. Turnover is great. Fast service. Great prices. Try the biscuits and gravy with hash browns. Its amazing!

Is it possible to have a bad meal here? My Dad is a breakfast expert and he introduced us to the Cross Eyed Cricket when we were visited from out of state. The biscuits are tall and tender, and the gravy is full of all kinds of delicious pork grease from both sausage and bacon. Maybe even a little something else. I have never had gravy that good at a restaurant before. They give you real butter here, not that fake butter stuff. The potatoes are crispy and well seasoned, yet not salty. I was actually eating them without ketchup, which is very strange. It is like eating at Grandma's house, and Grandma can never do anything wrong. Don't be sensitive when it comes to the waitresses. Since they don't-suffer-fools, it will take a little while for them to warm up.

Friendly service in this family 'joint.' A little off the beaten path, but worth the trip. Must be a good local stop as the 20-ish table restaurant had 6 tables and 2 others paying/walking out, on our way in at 2:15 in the afternoon. Most everything is homemade. Not the cleanest place, DEFINITELY not fancy. I think the booth is shrank my pants as they were much tighter on the way out... I enjoyed the 'special' of the day, Roast beef stuffed pork chop, it was very tender and had great flavor. I was surprised that side of fruit was hand cut, fresh fruit. Homemade corn bread was fabulous, had to order an additional side! Good enough to drive a little out of the way while heading nearby.

This restaurant is disgusting it looks like it hasn't been cleaned in 30 years the staff was very rude will never go back.

The chicken fried steak Is really nice. Large portions for a reasonable price, and not too salty, which can be the case elsewhere. Worth a visit for the standard breakfast favorites.

I'd say...not a hipster joint, not fancy, probably the least pretensious restaurant I've eaten in in a couple of years. But good, honest food. Plenty of it. This is no healthy eating joint, it's a place that you'll stop in because you're ravenous. Or you want to bring your grandma to Sunday dinner. Had the Sunday Meal combo - for me, pork roast with gravy, leaf spinach, breaded tomatoes, and a cucumber salad. The spinach was likely frozen - still ate it all. The stuffing under the pork roast was danged tasty. Cornbread served with the meal was perfect. Sweet tea was a bit sweet but they watered it down and it worked just fine. Free pie for desert (comes with the combo on Sundays)? Heck yeah!

Cute little joint..Omlette a bit greasy, but I sent it back, and ordered poached hed eggs and they were perfect . Wish they offered gluten free toast or pancakes.

I love this place! The entrees and sides are just like mom's, and the pies are the best in town. I never miss stopping here when I come back to Indiana.

Amazing service, atmosphere, & food. We went after church on a Sunday so it was busy but we only had to wait a few minutes before a table opened up. The food was amazing. Good portions, prices, & FREE pie of your choice in Sundays. I recommend the chocolate pie. Best I have ever had. No exaggeration! If I'm ever in the area again, I will be back

This corner restaurant is an incredible place to be, no matter who you are or where you come from. Perfect for any occasion. However, due to its small size, if you blink, you could miss this absolutely marvelous establishment. I suggest you keep those eyes as wide as your belly because you will certainly want to devour every morsel served. (And not just because it's served promptly and with a welcoming and family-friendly smile.) I ordered a skillet and after just one bite, I knew no matter what choice I had made would've been the correct one. Eggs scrambled to perfection, with melted cheese and crispy bacon or juicy sausage, distributed through every bite. All of this, served next to hash browns, sliced, fried and crisped to heavenly standards. If you are ever in the sleepy town of Evansville, Indiana, don't sleep on The Cross Eyed Cricket. Keep your eyes peeled and focused, or it would be the biggest mistake you could ever make.

Great diner food. We used to frequent the Cricket after a night out....great hangover food. Super cheap, really tasty, and the classic egg, meat, potatoes, toast plate also comes with a side of BISCUITS AND GRAVY! And they are good biscuits and gravy too. Huge portions, chicken fried steak is amazing. Like a lot of diners, it's not the cleanest joint I've been to but it has it's charms. In the mood for greasy diner food? The Cricket's your spot in E-Ville.

Not a bad place. Looks like a dive but food is good and prices are fair. Pulled pork sandwich was average. Might come back for another try in the future.

How does this place have 4 stars? I ordered an omelette with ham, onions, pepper jack cheese, sour cream.. Came with a boat load of onions and hardly any ham. There was an option for feta cheese.. When the omelette arrived, it appeared there was feta cheese on top... Nope, that was the rancid sour cream. $20.48 with tax... Also got a side of bacon, coffee and orange juice.. I give up on eating out in this town..

I met some family in Evansville and my brother in law says he wants some "midwestern food." He went on to describe southern food - okra, fried chicken, grits, etc. I laughed and my wife chimed in, "How about Cross Eyed Cricket?" Genius! Cross Eyed Cricket tastes like anything your grandma has cooked. The chicken and dumplings are the best I've had. Some claim the Fall Festival is better, but I disagree. The fried catfish is just as tasty as Knob Hill in Newburgh. Every dinner includes an entree and 2 or 3 sides for $7 or $8! The service is fantastic as well. My wife is happy because they have sweet tea. In all my times at Cross Eye Cricket, I've never had their pie, even though it looks really good!

Good home style food. Had breakfast there last weekend. Very low key but friendly & quick service. Ignore the rundown decor (only reason for 4 vs. 5 stars) because you're there to eat a delicious home cooked meal. Great coffee, biscuits & gravy excellent, thick sliced tasty bacon. Wish we had gotten there before 1030a to order Belgian waffles. Very reasonably priced too.

The old lipstick on the coffee cup didn't start things off on the right foot for me. I couldn't drink the coffee after I was able to wipe it off with my napkin. That lack of cleanliness dropped four stars off my rating immediately. The omelet recovered one star. I won't go here again, however.

OK, it's a little off the beaten path, and the outside and inside decor are a little tired, BUT: The locals eat here for a reason. While they had a very nice inexpensive special, I went for an omelet with spinach and mushrooms. Per previous reviews, I had some of the gravy on the side to put on my biscuit. The omelet was excellent, not over- or under-cooked, and the biscuits were fluffy & hot. The gravy was superb. Really one of the best meals I had on my entire trip to Evansville. And the service was all that I expect from a diner, and more. She checked back on me, but didn't hover or persist on refills I didn't want or need. Reallly, a great way to start my Sunday.

Sunday Menu is great. Inexpensive, large portions. Great feel of a home cooked meal. I had fried chicken, my wife had the meatloaf, sat outside on the patio on a warm spring day. And surprise, at the end of our meal, we got a free piece of pie! Fast friendly service too!

Place needs a remodel. Wish it felt cleaner. Hostesses were very nice. Came here from the yelp reviews otherwise I would have driven by. Comfort food. Not fancy. I had the stuffed porkchop- really tasty a little overdone. Wife had the chicken and dumplings she really liked it. Corn bread! We liked it. It is an adventure. Meat and three basically. Seems like the others. Why is everyone out here afraid to add seasoning to food? Just okay. I hope they do better.

Very good food....i loved the mac and cheese & sausage gravy. Service was good and I liked that everything is homemade. The next I am in the area. .i will definitely stop by.

Good local place for a lazy day brunch. Went there with family and friends on a Sunday afternoon. Ordered a smattering of specials and menu items. Portions are average, sides served in individual bowls and stacked on plates. Fried chicken is pretty decent, biz and gravy is good too. Food reminds me of going down to grandmas house. Simple but good. Service was good, but expect a wait for brunch.

Kathy was great! Food is excellent! Catfish is the best I ever had. You will enjoy!

Free pie on sudays, ridiculous crowed every day. Evansville is one of those cities that is content in its existence. Comfortable in its own skin. A place where working at Home Depot is akin to working at, well, Lowes, or the county courthouse for that matter. The Cross Eyed Cricket is a haven in this town well versed in fast food and medium speed chain restaurants. A gathering place of sorts where that old guy can sit by himself at the strange 1 seater table by the door but then get invited to join a group of large women in the corner. The food was pretty good too, not the best, but on this busy Sunday the staff seemed a bit overwhelmed. I have a certain fondness for these stagnant Ohio river towns, where the river boats stopped coming through years ago and all that remains are fake river boats that have casinos and hold junior proms. Maybe im old old fashioned, but Id rather go to the cross-eyed cricket and get pecan pie.
