Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Who would have thought that one of my favorite Italian restaurants would be in Elkhart, IN. Unfortunately for me, I live in Illinois and only visit Elkhart once a year for the Jazz Festival in June. I have two words: TONY RUSSO. The pasta sauce on this dish is ridiculously good. The last time I visited I was able to coax them to serve me cheese tortellini with the Tony Russo sauce and let me just say, it was FANTASTIC. I think you could put that sauce on shoe leather and it it would make it delicious. We will come back to this restaurant again and again. I can't wait until June.

My maid of honor asked around to figure out where to have my bachelorette - several people told her Per Bacco. I'm so glad they did! I tried the Shrimp Diablo the first time - it's spicier than I like, but the Alfredo is the best I've had anywhere and the goat cheese crustini is to die for! I really want to try dessert there sometime, but I'm always too full for it! It's true that there's way too little parking, so if you have a group you'll want to carpool.

Had a similar experience as P.K.F. It was quite evident there was some confusion on who was supposed to have our table so we were just ignored. We sat for 10 mins before we were even greeted by a waiter. If you decide to go here, be prepared to receive very poor service. The food. It's no secret they have great pizza. However, the fried ravioli is clearly not fresh, but frozen and tastes like something you'd get at a bar or concession stand at a sporting event. The chicken parmesan tasted like something you'd get at a cafeteria of some sort. My wife really enjoyed her seafood primivera and the complimentary bread is very good. The place is clean and the decor is very nice.

Our regular go to local pizza has been Bruno's for more years than I care to admit, so when I heard one of their family had opened a finer dining restaurant in Elkhart, in a strip mall and had been open for a few years, I just had to try it! Once you step in the door, you are transported out of the rather run down strip mall into a lovely decorated, traditional Italian looking restaurant. We came on a random Tuesday night and were sad to discover only 1 other table seated for dinner and once they wrapped up, we were the only people there. BUT - the plus side is we had amazingly attentive service! ;-) I also completely agree with the other review - the music playing over the speakers was very charming and set a great mood. I had a glass of chianti while they gave us fresh bread and olive oil. We ordered the goat cheese crustini appetizer which is served with either apricot or fig preserves, whatever is seasonal and available that time of year. We got apricot this day and got 4 HUGE crustinis (approximately 4 inches each) with balsamic vinegarette drizzled on top - it was heavenly! Then, for dinner, we got 2 of the specials of the day - butternut squash ravioli with walnut sauce and mushroom gnocci in cream sauce. My dining companion declared her dish delicious, some of the best she had ever had and the gnocci was wonderful and came out in a huge bowl that contained 2 good serving sizes, at least. Unfortunately, this restaurant is not very technology savvy so when I inquired about advertising online, Facebook, anything - I was met with a blank look so that may explain why many may not have heard of this place, including myself. Hopefully through word of mouth, they will get the customers they deserve in a part of Elkhart pretty much lacking in fine dining of any kind. I know I will definitely be back! This would be a great restaurant for a group get together, party, birthday, anniversary, etc so keep them in mind.

Prego! Love the perfectly cooked pasta here. I would recommend a face lift to the sign but inside it is a different place all together. Worth a visit for al dente pasta made properly.

As good as it gets! Absolutely fabulous food, no matter what you order it is over sized! My husband and I have been there several times, tried something new every time and have never been disappointed. The wait staff is friendly, knowledgeable and competent. Can't hardly believe some one would not like it here! Tried to walk in on Valentine's Day but the whole restaurant was booked. We will plan ahead next year!

Best Italian around! Appetizer amazing : bruschetta, calamari, goat cheese crostini. Bread and whole clove garlic oil is complimentary and fantastic. Had chicken picatta and soccotini both delish! Get the tiramisu no matter what, you'll be stuffed but get anyway! Best I've had.

We visited Per Bacco last night and things couldn't have been worse. We knew they were expecting our group because they allowed us to make a reservation for 11 people. Due to a parking lot that isn't suffice for the amount of seats in the restaurant, it took an addition 15 minutes for everyone to make it to the table. We finally had our drinks & appetizers ordered around 6:30 then entree's & pizza by 6:45. After an hour of waiting (they said the HUGE pizza takes longer to cook - it was a 16'' pie with 4 toppings!!) most of the food finally began to trickle out of the kitchen and in one case onto a vacant chair, as the waitress partially dumped my buddies dinner, almost onto his lap. Unfortunately our waitress also failed to submit one of the dinner orders for my friends wife, so she was delegated to standby as we we served. Her food did arrive under-cooked, probably because it was rushed through the kitchen. Because we were eating bread and appetizers during our wait, we had plenty of pizza to take home, so our waitress boxed the kids food and the under-cooked entree. She then ruined the 16" pie by failing to line the pizza box with foil. The pizza and box were "together as one" after the bottom of the box was saturated from oil and the crust couldn't be separated from the box when I got home 10 minutes later. The one thing they did get right was the check. everything we ordered was on the check, no comp for the late and under-cooked entree the waitress didn't get in. Although the dinning room at Per Bacco is very nice, the lack of service undercuts it.

This is an AMAZING place to dine whether going out with the family or on a date. The food is delicious, the portions are HUGE and the staff is always friendly and welcoming. If you like cannoli you HAVE to get some from here! The BEST I have ever eaten...hands down. I am not usually a dessert person, but I never leave without either cannoli or tiramisu. You can tell the chef cooks with love. If you're in Elkhart and looking for a dining experience you'll not soon forget, stop in here and treat yourself!

Last night we went to Per Bacco with a large group of extended family, many of them seniors. My 86 year old aunt and her equally senior friend ordered beer which was served in the bottle. They were refused glasses. The waitress said that it was a new rule and that they couldn't provide glasses for the beer or they would get in trouble! Has anyone ever heard of anything so ludicrous? After my feisty 74 year old aunt went and spoke to the manager the glasses were provided. I felt bad for the waitresses who obviously were embarassed about this asinine rule. Other than this issue the service was excellent as was the food. The portions were adequate to large and very tasty. Unfortunately until the manager, or whoever makes the "rules" gains some common sense we probably won't be back.

The ambience: We went to dinner here last night (a Friday night). Good atmosphere, very friendly staff, good wine selection. Pretty friendly, authentically Italian-feeling restaurant, though the decor is a contemporary feel. Ol' Blue Eyes was playing over the sound system when we went in, followed up by some Billy Joel classics. Server was very familiar with the menu and had recommendations to make. An older Italian gentleman came out to greet some of his guests carrying an adorable baby, which provided a bit of entertainment as well. The food: We started out with the Goat Cheese Crostini, because it just sounded too good to pass up. It was, as advertised, a creamy goat cheese, served spread on 4 lightly toasted, garlicky ciabbata slices. Good and filling--between 3 people we only ate 2.5 of the slices, and I just had the other 1.5 for lunch today! I had the Tony Russo pasta, mostaccioli served with a light but spicy tomato sauce and garnished with shredded fresh basil--perfect. If you like your Italian dishes a little spicy, definitely give it a try, but try to avoid the peppers if you can. They are miserably hot if you eat them by mistake. I know. My parents, however, didn't fare as well. They both had specials: my mother had the lobster ravioli in a light marinara sauce and my father had salmon and asparagus served over linguini (I think) in an alfredo sauce. Both liked the sauces well enough, but thought the seafood was more fishy-tasting than they liked. We all got the salad option with the entrees. The basic house salad was a manageable portion, with good fresh greens, and the house dressing was a balsamic vinaigrette which was pretty amazing. My conclusion: I will definitely be going back, especially because I didn't try the butternut squash ravioli, which comes in a "creamy walnut sauce," and our waitress declared the best thing on the menu. I just hope I can talk my parents into giving it a second chance as well.

The place is pretty good. The goat chess crostini was good as a starter, along with the calamari. I ordered the gnocci dumplings with meat sauce and it was amazing! The service was rely nice, and our waiter had good manners! Overall, a nice warm Italian family restaurant!

The restaurant was busy, and the service was very slow. We waited over 30 minutes just for our salads to come out. A server walked by twice with a pitcher of water, and did not bother to fill our empty glasses. The food is good, but not good enough to make up for the poor service. I am disappointed as this place had high reviews!

We ate there & needed a gluten-free meal. The staff we visited with were knowledgeable, helpful & courteous. Staff was cautious about flour dust in the air but we were less concerned than they were and figured if they were that knowledgeable that they'd exercise great care in the kitchen AND THEY DID. My wife had the Tony Russo with gluten-free pasta - she absolutely loved it and experienced no issues for a celiac. I had the Fettuccini Alfredo with grilled chicken. Absolutely delicious and we'll eat there again any time we pass through Elkhart again!

I ate here with my parents and loved it. They offer gluten free pasta (a novelty in Elkhart, IN) and are very helpful in assisting with the menu. My veal was made incorrectly (with breadcrumbs) and they fixed it for me no problem, and was lickety split about getting a new entree out for me. The wine was flowing and everyone at my table had a great time and great food. I would definitely suggest coming here for authentic Italian food, and great, friendly service!
