Bar is old school and dining is very personal. Hands down the only place in elkhart to get a steak. This place is classic and family owned. So support a family and eat at this great place!

This was the best prime rib i have ever ate! The atmosphere was awesome..has a western feel. We will definitely be back!

Hands down the best prime rib around. Get it char broiled with mushrooms!! Have eaten here for years and never been disappointed. They also have good sandwiches and "bar food". Great place to eat anytime.

Wanted a quiet st down dinner. This place has a western decor that is getting a little old looking. Very noisy. Waiters too busy to stay on top of service. Food a bit disappointing. Ordered the 1/3 pound buffalo burger. No lettuce tomato or any expected toppings. Served on a tiny plate that made it seem even smaller. Burger was definitely not 1/3 pound.

Heinnies is the kind of hidden gem that's hard to find unless you're a local. It's tucked away slightly off the beaten path and doesn't have a large flashy sign out front ushering you in. Walking in the regulars turned their heads but then continued on with their own business. Ordered a Heinniecheeseburger cooked rare with the all fixings and a basket of waffle fries. It was a patty formed from 1/3 pound of fresh ground Prime steak trimmings topped with American cheese on a soft white bun. The burger was the juiciest most flavorful burger I have ever had. And I've eaten a lot of burgers. The patty juices completely wreaked havoc on the bun. The buns held up until the end, but barely. The rabbit food is completely unnecessary and might have ruined a lesser burger. In the Heinnie the vegetation merely acted as a distraction and I didn't notice it. Get your burgers with just cheese, patty and bun and you'll be loving it. Waffle fries were perfectly fried and seasoned. For the big boys, they have the Claybaugh, which are two Heinnies topped with just about every single type of cheese and topping possible. I wasn't ready for a food coma just yet though, maybe next time. Prices can't be beat w/ the Heinnie being 5 bucks and a Heinnie plate rounding out at 7.45 (includes fries and slaw). If you ever find yourself in the area and can appreciate a good burger, it's a definite must try.

My family and have been going here for years and although the prices are high has been a good place....until. My wife ordered the fried chicken dinner, when it came out it was way over cooked. She tried to eat some of eat but it wasn't good. When she told the waitress that it was over cooked and asked if they could cook her new chicken the waitress immediately got an attitude and said "yeah, but it will be 20 minutes". Now I don't claim to be a chef but if you burnt someones food, you would think you could expedite it quicker since chicken takes less than 10 minutes in the pressure cooker. My wife just said no that's ok just take it off the bill. What aggravated me most was they messed up her dinner, but made sure she paid for her salad. I think it pretty low.

what can I say? this place used to be a barn. all the tables here are situated in former stalls. there's a restaurant side and a bar side. came here with the family party of 10 including the kiddies and apparently we took up two stall spaces. service was slow but at least friendly. i think there were only two, maybe three, servers and most of the tables were full. despite the long wait, all our entrees came out piping hot which means the cooking was timed just right. everyone seemed satisfied with their food as I didn't hear any complaints. i ordered the fried haddock with fries. the fries by the way were the big steak fries, my favorite kind. the dish was served with a very good tartar sauce which may have been made on-site and not the bottled kind. mom ordered the grilled salmon served with a side of baked potato. i think dad and sister shared a steak, and brother and kids ordered a juicy cheeseburger. i'd definitely go back. feels good to advocate a place with decent grub that has local roots.

Had the prime rib last night; cooked to perfection, the mushrooms were excellent. Everyone was pleased with their steaks at our table. Prices are on the higher side, but worth it when the steak is this good. Great service last night.

Terrific resturant with great service and food. Our party had three kinds of fish and mine a filet mignon. Everyone loved each item . My filet one of the best I've ever eaten. Service fast, friendly and accomodating.

Super friendly service, lots of local regulars, yummy steak. Pre-dinner salads and side dishes were just okay, but the main entrees were delish.

I have multiple food allergies and our waitress, Angie, was wonderful. She checked labels for me. We had the buffalo burger and cheese burger. They were excellent and the price was good. We will come again when we are in town next.

Sammi the server waited on us, what a shiny spectacular personality. We had the incredible prime rib and filet mignon sooooooooooooooooo fantastic!! The baked potatoe was the best! And make sure you get the horse radish sauce. I could eat it without the meat! So yummy. I'm speechless .

Visiting town and found this place in Yelp. Had the prime rib, salad and baked potato. The prime rib was excellent. The only thing I would change would be the salad. Instead of iceburg I would prefer romain.

We got here between lunch and dinner. Dinner isn't served till 5:00 so we we were a little early for dinner . We decided to try the burgers. We were not disappointed. husband had The claybaugh but with only one pattie. Can't imagine it with two. it was so big he couldn't pick it up to eat it without wearing it. I had the chili burger and it was great. Homemade chili lots of meat melted cheese , it was awesome. Coleslaw was very good and fries were good size and looked hand cut. Want to try to come back for the steak.

This place is great. The restaurant is very rustic and clean. The people are very friendly and personable. We are from out of town & were referred here by a local. When we arrived, we realized that we were here last year when passing through. Wife ordered haddock and I ordered the 16oz rib eye. Haddock was fried and enough for two people. Really good. Steak was cooked a perfect medium rare and was very flavorful. Also had sautéed mushrooms, small order. Small was a lot. We would go back.

I'm an Elkhart native... Heinnies is a local tradition. Give 'em a try... their food has been pretty good for YEARS. If you aren't happy with it... tell them. They'll make it right. They are carrying on a family tradition and will do what it takes to make sure you're happy. That's something to be proud of and as a customer... its something to come back for.

Steaks are OK (could use some seasoning), but try the taco stix appetizer...love it!

Forget Applebee's, this place is amazing. Sit at cowhide covered tables inside stalls that used to be for milking, or in the bar area with a NASCAR theme, select from a wide variety of beers, with several on tap, or cocktails, order charred salmon or filet mignon or a Heinnieburger, I'm coming back!

Great cheeseburger! Should have got a double. Went in and struck up a conversation with some of the regulars. Great people. Great food.
