Love love love this place. Me and my friends have been going here since before I could barely see over the counter. It will be a life long Fav!

Best gyro in the mid-west. I originally posted this in 2011 I think. It is 2013, and it is still the best damn gyro around. There are plenty of Greek restaurants in South Bend. There are other gyro places. Georges is a hole in the wall type joint that exists through word of mouth advertising and reputation. If you do not know what a gyro is, you are missing out - come try one. If you know what a gyro is and you like them but have not visited George's, then there is more wrong with you that can be helped. :) Update, 12/26/2013: Evan M.'s review below is just plain wrong. George's has a vertical spit at the 12 O'clock position when standing at the register. I have no idea how that can be overlooked. I have been eating at George's for 10 years, and it has always been there, in the open.

The only place for Gyros! The pita is wonderful. The pita is delicious. The pita is the best! Everything else is great too!

I had been wanting a good gyro plate for a while when a coworker recommended George's. So, I made the trip. When I walked in the place was empty which was kind of disheartening. I walked to the counter and ordered a gyro plate to go. The staff was friendly and we talked about Chicago while they prepared my food. I was kind of surprised to see that they didn't have a vertical spit out in the open for the customer to see. My food was ready in about five minutes and I thanked them and headed home. Once I was home I opened my container and was pleased to see a large portion of meat and generous portions of feta, kalamata olives, onions and tzatziki. The meat was good but, kind of under seasoned lacked some of the crispiness I'm accustomed to. The pitas were light and fluffy however, the tzatziki was more sour cream based than yogurt based which made it lighter but less flavorful. All in all George's was good and the staff is great but the food leaves a little to be desired.

Hands down...I love this place! From my first visit, George and his staff were so polite and made me feel so welcome. They even memorized my order and knew it was me every time I called! That's great customer service. The food is amazing! I recommend the Turkey and cheese pita! I just moved to Indianapolis and cannot wait to visit Elkhart to eat at Georges again!!

Really great. All your Hot Dog stand wants... Hot dogs, beefs, Italian sausage, cheese fries and of course Gyros! Tasty! Same owners as the Golden Egg - fantastic service - locally owned!

This is a great place for a reasonably priced hot, quick or leisurely lunch. The gyros are delicious and the rib dinners are the best I've had so far in Elkhart County.
