This place used to be good, but it is awful, now. The doors were locked 7 minutes after they are supposed open, and the cook and waiter stayed outside, chatting for a few minutes before they wandered in to turn on the lights and unlock the door. We should have left then, but we like the owner, and I am a fan of the Guacamole and Cocktail de Camarones. The salsa was tomato juice and grease, and the chips were terribly stale. After twenty minutes we asked for salsa, and the server spilled it, but gave us the sloppy bowl. The shrimp cocktail was very good, but the server dipped his finger in it, while serving, twice. Once when bringing it out, his thumb was in the bowl, the second time when a lime slipped off, and he grabbed it and flipped it in. The fajitas were good, but the rice was clearly yesterday's fare, stale, crunchy, and served ice cold. The refried beans were also cold, and with only two tables filled at lunch on Saturday, you would expect attentive service. That was not the case. They also had a door open and this brought flies into the place. We eat lunch here about twice a month, but the last few visits have been declining.

Had an awful experience there last night. When ask if the fish tacos were good waitress stated "I wouldn't know because I don't like fish". We asked if a lot of patrons ordered the fish tacos and she stated yes. We ordered the sea bass tacos at $26 per item and they were awful! Extremely too many ingredients with under cooked fish and onto of that plate and food was cold when brought to table (on a Monday evening). The Tuna ceviche was awful as well. Soaked it a gallon of Soy Sauce and Ginger root/power. Personally, I felt whomever manages this place is to blame and not the clueless waitress we had. However, the waitress took her time with everything except when it was time for the bill. We have dined at the Tequila in Crown Point and was good, this place was awful. I will not go back. My recommendation is just to stick to the basics (tacos or fajitas). They don't seem to have much span on unique cuisine.
Really enjoy the ala carte tacos here as they're always tasty. The la familia room is a nice addition and great for families up to 10 people celebrating a special event. I'm so happy to see an outside patio dining for restaurants in NWI. We definitely don't have enough places like this one in the area. The decor is beautiful and bar area is wonderful. Table side guacamole is also a favorite. Recommend for lunch and large groups!

The restaurant is nice but the food is not good. The salsa they put on the table with the complimentary chips is not spicy at all but usually when you go to Mexican restaurants and ask for a spicier salsa you are given it but not here. If you ask for the spicier salsa which is not even spicy you are charged for it. Also, the margaritas are good except for the ones that are part of the $5 special on Wednesday. The Wednesday special is watered down to the point of where it is like you are drinking frozen water. The wait staff that we had yesterday was terrible. Our waitress treated us like the it was a treat for us to have her for a waitress. She wasn't able to help us with food suggestions or anything. The food is simply not good, it is strange because it has the ingredients and there is promise but the sazon is missing which is unfortunate because the location and the look of the restaurant is great.

The main entrance lead straight into a private surprise party. We couldn't figure out where to go. No clue if the place was even open to the public. No apparent signage or assistance from any Tequila staff. Someone from the party let us know there was a bar area that was open for business. After 15 minutes a waiter finally noticed us and promptly served us chips/drinks. We were one of three tables seated in that section. ALL ABOARD THE BLANDWAGON. The food had no spice, no aroma, no zest, NO GO!!! The house salsa was a glorified tomato soup. My spicy bell pepper w/ chorizo sausage entree was everything but spicy and loaded with rice. To top it off, my wife had a special bonus when she bit into her steak burrito. SEE PHOTO. It seemed like the server would disappear for 20 minutes at a time and was never around when we needed beverage refills. And we could have stayed for dinner for the amount of time we waited for our check. Tequila was overpriced and not competitive for what was offered. With other local Mexican restaurants in the area, I do not see this establishment lasting long, Nothing less of a major overhaul will be needed to keep them afloat. If you have 1.5 hrs and $40 for lunch on a Saturday afternoon, Tequila RestaurantE may be your jam. Personally, I'd rather be jamming with Taco Bell. ~Tim Twit

I would give 3 1/2 star. The food was good. Drinks, atmosphere pleasant. We sat on the patio. Service was a little slow. We had to ask for water and silverware. Price a little on the high end for NW IN. We would go back.

Nice atmosphere for Mexican restaurant. Price is really high for the food. Wait staff is lethargic at best. If I can post a pic I'll show you what my kid drew while we just waited for our drinks. Food ok. Salsa not salsa it's tomato soup. The service is key any where. I have been here three times now and it is still awful. If you don't mind waiting 25 minutes for drinks and 55 minutes for food give it a try. I suggest going on a weekday. To be fair the place is new. Don't count it out based on my review. Tequila should be given a fair shot to be good. I will have an update in a month or so.

The location is very pretty, very nice decor. We ordered the guacamole, it was made table side and it was very delicious but the jalapeño peppers weren't spicy as I would have liked. For dinner we ordered the carne asana and although the meat was very tasty the portion was shockingly tiny for such a hefty price. The salsa with the chips was bland but the salsa that came with the steak was much better. I ordered the black beans and rice and was a little disappointed that it was like uncle Bens rice and beans, would have liked it a bit more authentic. I think the food was way too expensive for the amount they provide. A friend ordered I think carnitas or shredded chicken with mole sauce and it was really a tiny portion and so shredded that it resembled mush. Would not recommend, sorry I was really looking forward to a new location to eat.

It's not possible to give this place NO stars so I will give it one just so I can leave a review. My family and I walked into this restaurant last at apporximatly 8:30 P.M. We approached the front desk and had to wait several minutes before the host hung up the phone and acknowlged us. At no point did he put his finger up letting us know he would be with us shortly or even cover the mouth piece and whisper to us that we would be seated momentarily, he just continued to pace the restaurant on the cordless phone, like a 14 year old girl gabbing with her best friend's boyfriend. This should have been a huge GLOWING sign that this would be an awful dining experience. Eventually, my family and I were led to a table that for some unknown reason the staff thought would be perfect for us. It should be noted that we were one of two families eating in the restaurant side of the business. So with 99% of the tables available, the staff chose for my family and I to be seated at a table at the back of the restaurant, right next to the kitchen. When I arrived at the table, I pulled my chair out to sit down and noticed a large amount of lettuce and an assortment of old food crumbs on my seat. Both the host and the hostess watched me as I picked two pieces of lettuce off of the top of the table and brushed off my seat several times before being able to sit down. ZERO fu$k$ given by either employee. We sat down and were immediately greeted by the only asset this place has, our waiter Robert C. He was very friendly and professional and made sure to take the time to explain menu items and drink options with enthusiasm. A GREAT DEAL OF ENTHUSIASM! The restaurant's menu was small but all of the food options were way over priced. I felt this way before even tasting them. I had eaten at Tequila C in Crown Point in the past and had been under the impression that Tequila Restaurante was owned and operated by the same people, now I'm not so sure. If it is, someone should come over to this spot and fire everyone, with the exception of Robert C. The only redeaming thing about the food at this place is the "table side guacamole." It was unbelievably tasty but I attribute that to our waiter who made the whole guacamole experience a real "experience." P.S. not we know how to make guacamole and don't even need to return for their guacamole. So we're sitting at our table, next to the kitchen, with our children and thank the lord we were, because it allowed us to hear a loud vicious argument between staff members. This wasn't a little tiff, it was a full blown yelling match complete with multiple F bombs. It got so bad that a female, or a guy with a sexy female voice, had to intervene and remind these clowns that it was christmas, not the season for ranking one another's mothers. In addition, one of the waiters walked passed our table after exiting the kitchen and greeted us with a meaty belch which he didn't seem to think was out of place or unprofessional. He was wrong. It took a total of 50 minutes from the time we ordered out food till it hit our table and again, we were the only customers in the restaurant for the last 30 minutes. The food was disgusting. I ordered the "Big Boy Burrito" stuffed with shrimp. It was abhorrent. I wouldn't feed that thing to ISIS terrorists or even my father-in-law's dog. My son ordered the chicken fingers and they were equally nasty. This place hasn't been open all that long but if I was to guess i'd say that they probably brought the fryer grease from one of their other stores, one that primarily serves fish figured that since it was new this location, it was new. Our bill was around $60.00 dollars (American) and unfortunatly only our 3 year old actually ate her food without issue. I was always taught to end an essay with something nice, so...they do have a nice parking lot. NOTICE: If you are going to eat Mexican food in Dyer, you need not look any further than Chips and Salsa (1233 Sheffield Avenue)...EVER! I'm sorry Ruben, we will never stray again.

My mom had been there before and liked it so my dad and I went there for dinner. Pretty horrible experience. They told us that their kitchen was backed up but that they could seat us. We thought we'd at least get some guac and chips and maybe a drink too. Unfortunately we never saw a waiter. 20 minutes in we asked the bartender for some help. She was nice and said she'd get us water and guac and that we could probably order in 10 min. 10 min later the hostess got us some water finally. And then 10 min after that we just decided to leave. I understand their kitchen was backed up but you gotta serve water within 30 min! And if you can't put in orders, then pouring some guac out still shouldn't be hard. The fact that we didn't see a waiter was weird. Idk if there was some miscommunication. But bottom line, this place was disorganized and slow. Can't speak on the food tho. Like I said, my mom said she liked it when she'd been there previously. We left after 40 min having not seen a waiter.

Wish I could give it 0 stars. My wife and I went to celebrate a new job. We were seated outside and there are only four tables. Beyond disappointed by this place. Went in for lunch and was the only table there...should have been my hint to turn and go. Although the inside is very pretty, one doesn't go to a restaurant to eat the decor. That brings us to the food. We started with some guacamole that is prepared as you like tableside. This is literally the only reason they're getting any type of star. It was delicious--perhaps some of the best I've ever had. In addition to this, we also ordered Patron margaritas that were delicious. I wish we had come in for drinks and appetizers, as my review would have been five stars. Unfortunately, we decided to eat. The food was terribly bland (steak burrito and some sort of concoction on a piece of lettuce). There was no taste to any of it, and not even the hot sauce could cover up the fact that it was so underseasoned. In addition, for whatever reason, the food was not hot when it arrived to us. Will definitely not be back. It is unfortunate, because I really was looking forward to trying this place. Fix the food.

I so badly wanted this place to be a great Mexican restaurant, but.... I have been to the Crown Point location several times and only justified my returns as a result of the fun atmosphere, so I figured I'd try Dyer in hopes they had the atmosphere AND Mexican food. Dyer has a nice space and I'd imagine the bar could be good, but the food has a long way to go. I have to agree with the reviewer that stated how bland it is. Totally agree the salsa is plain tomato sauce too. It's just not Mexican. It's central plains white guy Ameri-Mexican. I hope someone will take note of these comments and visit some authentic Mexican restaurants and do their best to copy. It would be so cool to have a nice Mexican restaurant here. Unfortunately, this is not Mexican. (BTW, I agree with the other commenter on the soy sauce ceviche. I've ordered it as well; who does that?!?

Don't waste your time. The completely lousy service is one thing but the outrageously priced food is disgusting. Would have complained to the waitress but she was aloof and completely useless as a human being. Totally preheated several times. Probably leftover from the customers before us who couldn't eat their food either because the customers before them couldn't eat the same thing either, and so it gets passed on to the next victim. We would have been better off putting the salsa on plastic display food except the salsa is pretty bad. The chips have a plastic, synthetic texture, definitely cheaply mass produced chips. Would be better off with chips produced as some kids school science project in their parents basement. I gave 1 star only because I have to and there's no puking smiley face symbol. Any bets on how long this place stays open?

Very delicious food. I love the Tomatillo Fries appetizer. A very nice change of pace. The Nacho appetizer can be eaten as a meal it's so big. Fish tacos and the fajitas are also very good. Like the atmosphere. Normally I wouldn't pay $15 for a drink, anywhere. However, they have a margarita that is well worth it. I didn't feel like I was overcharged or cheated on the liquor content either. Very very good. This isn't a cheap eats kind of place but it won't force you to take out a second mortgage either. I hope this place is here to stay.

Ok, several issues. 1) Food was Bland. Salsa was fancy tomato sauce. No chunks of anything in it. 2) Price was ASTRONOMICAL! We paid more at this restaurant in Dyer Indiana than our meal at The Frontera Grill in Chicago. (Which, by-the-way, is an Awesome restaurant) Our meal was over $90.00 for three adult entrees and 1 kids meal. We had 1 margarita, table-side guacamole, and all of us had water to drink! This is highway robbery! 3) One of our guests required a gluten free meal which they told us was, only to discover that it wasn't. Guest threw up all the way home and said, there was definitely gluten in what she had. Bottom line: avoid this place, and save your hard-earned cash. Not worth the money.

Wow! Can't believe how good the food is here. Ate with friends. We had shrimp skewers, steak fajitas, and crab cakes. The crab cakes were incredible and cole highly recommended. We made a mistake not ordering the guac, which is prepared table side and looks incredible. The restaurant is well decorated, and pretty cool. There's a small outdoor patio that is very comfortable. Service is excellent, our server made really good recommendations, drinks were good, etc. Don't miss this place!

After walking in the restaurant seems like a very nice place, but that's how they get you. When my family and I arrived there were only two other tables taken. We were seated and five minutes later we were asked what we wanted to drink. We finally got to order our food and waited about 20 to 25 minutes to get it. It would've been a different story if it was great food but it wasn't. The rice on my plate and my wife's plate was old and crusty, just like rice looks when it's fresh out of the microwave. The food itself was lacking flavor and it all tasted old. I have had better tasting Mexican food at Taco Bell. I will never return to this restaurant.

The food was not terrible, the service was not terrible until the end of the meal. I put my credit card out and asked for the tab. The bartender ran my card gave me the Credit card receipt. Since I didn't have the original receipt ever, I asked for a copy and it took another server to help him figure out how to give me a copy of the bill. When we exited the restaurant we realized that we had been overcharged for a beer and for maybe a side on the entrée. How do you run a card without presenting a bill? When there is a discrepancy, I'm going to assume dishonesty.
