I can only mirror what so many others have already said. Usually when I spend 5 dollars for lunch, it is garbage. This is the exception! Delicious homemade soups, homemade bread, fruit or cookie and a drink for five bucks. Can you beat it? If so, I don't know how. I recommend mixing the Mushroom and Baked Potato.

They have a great meal deal. Choose from a vast array of soups, including some vegetarian and vegan options, cookie, and a drink. If you get there in enough time, they have these greasy croutons which make any soup complete. They make agua frescas which vary from pineapple to watermelon and are a nice, light, refreshing quencher!

$5 soup, homemade bread slices, cookie and a drink? Heck to the yeah. This secret little location hidden between the businesses on Washington Street in Columbus, Indiana, is a perfect lunch spot for on the go folks. 10-12 daily soups to choose from, salads, sandwiches and so forth, but the real reason is the $5!!! soup, homemade brea, cookie and a drink. I MEAN $5 Y'ALL. The mushroom soup is my fave, but all the soups rock. Chicken noodle, chicken pot pie (!), Thai coconut, lentil, vegetable stew, chicken and black bean... UG. Just so good. The other thing is that that free drink does not have to be soda. They have a daily selection of agua frescas available - watermelon, honeydew, lemonade, cantaloupe, etc. So, yeah, I'll just say it again FIVE DOLLARS. No tax, no add-ons. Five freakin' dollars. And it's tasty.

We've got a kid that loves soup and this place did not disappoint him or any of us. Most places look at soup as an "add on." Here - it's the focus. Hard to choose from the 10(?) different options so they guy behind the line gave me the hint of adding two together. I had the Buffalo Chicken and Turkey Chili. Fantastic. The boys had Cheesy chicken broccoli soup and classic chicken noodle. My only complaint is that the soup should've been hotter. In addition to the good experience, it was $5 exactly per lunch. Can't beat that.

The fact that I can walk here from my office downtown for a cheap and delicious lunch is enough to get me hooked. But the fact that you get a big cup of soup, homemade bread and cookies and a drink for $5 is amazing. I've only had their chicken noodle soup -- I have a soft spot for a great chicken noodle -- but every time it's delicious. I can't wait to try their other soups, if I can ever tear myself away from the chicken noodle.

My husband and I were looking for a quick, cheap, and healthier than fast food option for lunch while driving I-65. This place was just that! It has a cafeteria vibe, and did smell a little like such, but the staff was friendly, the soup was good, and you can't beat the $5 deal! We were able to try a bunch of the soups before settling on ones we liked. Will go back if traveling that way again.... Columbus was a surprisingly cute small town too!

I absolutely love this place for lunch! I think my favorite thus far is the vegetable beef because its both chunky and flavorful without being too oily. For the $5 special you can't go wrong especially since they are now on spot on and you can earn rewards for each trip! I come here often so racking up points is easy. If you are weary of a soup you may try it before you buy and they are always great with their customer service! The flavored water provides more options so you never get bored with drinking healthier. The lemonade is the perfect balance between refreshingly light and sweet... I could go on but you might as well go check it out!

I really want to love this place, but I just can't. They have a great selection of soups that are made from scratch, including vegan and gluten-free soups. For $5 you get a large bowl of soup, slice of bread, cookie, and a drink. I've tried two different soups, and while they were okay, I haven't found one that I really love yet. The bread they give you with the soup is bland and is only edible after you dip it in your soup. Their cookies aren't that great either. Their sandwiches are pre-made and come on super-thick foccia bread that really overwhelms the sandwich and honestly it soaks up your saliva so fast that they're kinda hard to eat...gotta wash them down :) TMI, I know. I will keep going back here, especially with the weather cooling down. But if I don't find a soup I really enjoy in the next few trips, I'll probably be going a lot less often.

Great soup! If I had to complain about anything it would be the chocolate chip cookies were too sweet, but for 5 bucks it's great! There bread is great too!

Went with a friend for lunch go the first time. Best mushroom soup I ever had. I love the meal deal for soup, bread, cookie, and drink for only $5. I want to go back every day and try them all.

Last week when driving on 5th Street in downtown Columbus I saw the delivery driver from Soups by Design riding his scooter while making a delivery. He had a cigarette hanging from his lips and I couldn't help but wonder if he would put the cigarette out by the time he got to his destination... I later read in The Republic newspaper that Soups by Design had been cited by the Department of Health for having several Health Violations. So after reading that in the paper and seeing their delivery driver, I decided to take the chance and eat at Soups by Design anyway. I ordered the Loaded Potato soup and my friend ordered the Minestrone Tortellini soup. We both were served the soup, bread, a cookie, and a drink for $5 including tax. When we first sat down at the table we both agreed that the food looked good. However, after tasting the soup, I found the loaded potato soup to be very bland and almost taste-less. The bacon in the soup didn't appear to have been cooked prior to being added to the soup and was very rubbery. I added quite a bit of salt and pepper to the soup just so that it had some taste. But, the bread and cookie were very good. Soups by Design may offer a $5 lunch, but that price is $3 too high.

This place is my favorite lunch spot in Columbus! $5 gets you soup, bread, a drink, and a cookie. Their soups are really good, but I've only tried the vegetarian options.

I love this place. Ten soups made fresh daily plus a variety of sandwiches and salads. My favorite are the split pea, cream of mushroom, chili, and the buffalo chicken (spicy). Others really like the butternut squash. Your choice of soup, salad or sandwich, a chocolate chip cookie (homemade), fresh bread with the salads and soup and a drink for $5 with tax. It's a deal and needless to say it is packed and I really don't think the word is out yet.

Good selection of soups plus sandwiches & salads - all at the same price. Also agree with Gregg S. that entree + cookie + drink @ $5 is a bargain. Really tasty soups (I had chili and tried the curried chicken). Nice convenient location with a fun casual atmosphere. Word appears to be getting out now - full at lunchtime.

This is, in theory, a terrific concept: 5 bucks gets you a generous bowl of soup, bread, croutons, a drink & a cookie. The place was packed when we went there today. Unfortunately, the soups we tried were pretty mediocre. My chili was oily, watery, & very bland, with very little meat or beans. Rather unpleasant to eat and I left most of it untouched. My husband had the chicken noodle, which looked good & was obviously homemade, but it was also very bland and under seasoned. People crowd into this restaurant at lunch time, but I don't think the meal I had was worth eating, even for 5 bucks.
