Similar to another review, my husband and I were starving after house hunting in Cicero and we saw this place. The smell alone will drive you to this place. Upon entering, you hit sensory overload - the smells, the decor, the music. It's all on point. We ordered the Brisket which was great and a side of mac & cheese which definitely hit the spot. There's an old Wurlitzer jukebox that plays tunes from the likes of Tammy Wynette and Johnny Cash. I literally felt like I was on Route 66 on a road trip or something. This place really makes you feel adventurous and comfortable. Even after our meal was done, we stayed to enjoy the atmosphere. What a great place to have in a small town! We'll definitely be back :)

I commend Big Dog's for giving the Hamilton Heights Speech Team a special deal, and I'm grateful for that, but beyond that I really wouldn't come here. I don't have any intense dislike of the place; it has simply never proven itself. The barbecue itself is one of the main letdowns. The meat has almost no flavor on its own; the sandwiches must be drowned in BBQ sauce to obtain any flavor. This is one of the main issues...the meat should already have some good flavor and not have to rely on the sauce. The sides are okay..nothing spectacular, but better than the meat, I'd say. The place is pretty decorated on a certain theme. I couldn't really the name the theme, but it's nice in there. And the service isn't a problem either. So really it's just that this place is lacking pizazz that I feel it needs. I'd give it 2 and a half stars if that was an option, but I think 3 is a little high. If the meat was better, I'd give it a 3. (They're not kidding when they say it's a smokehouse. You can't get the smell off of yourself after leaving.)

It's been a while since I was here and I don't think two stars was fair based on a recent BBQ experience. The meat here was pretty good and the other stuff was a general minus. So overall I'm increasing to 3 stars since that would be more accurate.

As a Texas transplant I hoped I would find some good bbq. I was disappointed. The brisket lacked flavor and no smoke ring no rub flavor. The sausage was burnt. The decor and sides were great. Hope they take this to heart.

Friends of ours had their wedding reception here. There were about 35 of us, and it was just right. food was great, the staff and the owner were very attentive. Good food good times.

My husband loves this place! The barbecue is really good, authentic! However, since going vegetarian, there are no options for myself. So we avoid this place like the plague.

My wife and I went there on July 4th. The Mac and cheese was very dry. The ribs were very good. Flavorful, meaty and tender. The pull pork was moist but not very smokey. The brisket was terrible. It was over cooked and totally dried out. The baked beans were very good. The food is just not exceptional enough to warrant driving out from Indianapolis when there are better closer. They should consider a trip to Texas to learn how to prepare brisket or take it off the menu.

Super tasty, locally run BBQ smokehouse. Love it, this is my second time here and I will keep coming back!

Enjoyed Big Dog's atmosphere and southern style dining experience. The dining area provides nostalgic glimpses of the past and present of Cicero. Portions were generous with a large selections of sides. The service starts from the moment you open the door with an introduction to the menu and offers of samples for newbies. Salad bar was a little sparse, but the home-made quality of the food overshadowed this issue. Look forward to returning!

This place is a staple for us. After practices or game nights, what a life saver. Only a couple of complaints... they are closed on Sundays and the service can be pretty slow even for just carry out. But, it's worth the wait because, yum, they have THE best mac & cheese on the planet!!!

Fantastic BBQ in a nice little family style restaurant. The service was quick, and people were constantly coming in. They offer dine in, carry out, and catering. This is where the Anvil Inn used to be, and the Juke Box from the Anvil is still there. I had the pulled chicken with the hot BBQ sauce. It had a nice kick. The Mac & Cheese was great too. The meat was flavorful on its own, and the portion is huge. My friend had the pork chili. She thought it tasted great, but it was very spicy hot. I heard about this place on Facebook, and we drove up from Indy to try it out. Definitely worth the drive. The only down sides: No alcohol. Plastic silverware. A plastic fork does not fare well against carrots in a salad. We'll be back.

We were camping at nearby White River Campground. We got there right at 8:00. The hours posted on Yelp said they closed at 8, however, they don't close until 9. My husband wanted brisket, but they were out. He ended up getting a pulled pork platter with beans and potato salad. I got a pulled chicken sandwich with potato salad and Mac and cheese. The meat comes without sauce so you can pick your flavor. We got a large serving of meat. The sides were pretty good. I got a free drink for checking in on Yelp! We got an apple dumpling and chess pie for dessert. They were both great. I would definitely recommend trying this place out!

We were looking for a place to eat after house hunting and found this gem. Food was fantastic. Atmosphere was fun. Price were great. I'll defiantly be back!

Small BBQ spot, great menu-lots of choices. We had the brisket platter and it was good, but the brisket was a little dry and could have been a little more lean. It was tasty, and the beans were very good. The ambiance is terrific-an old Wurlitzer, a vintage pinball machine, old photos and memorabilia scattered throughout. We will go back, but I will probably try the chicken. Or salmon. Or beef tips.

Big Dog's is good. It isn't to die for but it is worth going back to. The staff has always been friendly. Inside is clean. Lot's of neat decorations inside.

Inside looks great, flat screen TV, and one dining table has a seat from the carnival ride, scrambler. One private booth in its own mini room, a pinball game, plus a few more visual novelties were appealing. My first time eating here was today. My favorite was the green beans, if that tells you anything. The pulled pork was really scrappy. Plenty of bad bites. No smoky flavor either. I left behind 2/3rds of my half pound order due to the fatty morsels overload and very little lean pork . My sister said she did like the smoked sausage. I'm rooting for them to improve their food quality to insure this fine establishment will be around longer. Hopefully they will act on the food reviews and realize that savvy customers know when corners are cut.

Very Interesting. Great Decor. The food was hit & miss. The sides were better than the ribs. The corn bread was good, the bread rolls were cold and hard. The baked beans were fixed up canned beans.

This place has lots of potential and if pressed to eat in Cicero, Big Dog would be one of my choices. The building is eclectic and fun. An old 1940's era garage converted into the main dining area creates an intimate & quirky dining space. Fun Fire Station pinball machine and real jukebox to play while waiting. Great pulled pork sandwiches (where was the dill pickle?) served in generous portions and home made touches on the sides. Potato salad was close to being grand but lacked onions or a little zing. Macaroni was home made, yeah! Green beans also had home made touches. Meat is served without bbq sauce and the person at the register who doubles as our server did not offer or guide us with the sauces. Was not impressed with our bbq sauce in a plastic cup. It did not seem home made but rather corn syrupy and bland. We tried three of them. Served on a tray in paper nestled in plastic baskets, beverages served in a can with no glass or ice cubes and no water offered. And perhaps the biggest disappointment- no beer period. Not in a can nor on tap. Who thoroughly enjoys a bbq without beer? The prices were good and I would not give up on the place especially if they read their reviews and make some revisions- You're almost there!
