Had biscuits and gravy.. Blah. Not seasoned very well. Just blah. Also a huevos Mexicana which the refried beans were so salty I couldn't eat them and the eggs which have tomatoes, onion and jalapeño tasted had no seasoning whatsoever not even salt. I would give one star for the huevos Mexicana and 3 stars for the biscuits and gravy which I averaged together for two stars. FYI the country fried steak is a frozen patty.

Just moved to cedar lake a few months ago and have fallen in love with this place. Good beer selection and great food with the option to eat outside overlooking the lake. So far every time I go I have gotten something different and have not been disappointed. Best part is they have my favorite fish(blue gill) there at a reasonable price. Definitely would recommend to anybody who is in the area.

For lack of a halfway decent place to eat in Cedar Lake but a desire not to cook, my husband & I decided to give Sandbar Grill yet another chance last night. Bad decision and here's why. We looked over their Specials board while waiting for a table, then compared the Specials prices to the menu prices and found their Specials prices to be only $0.20 to $0.50 off!?! That is no 'special' price. An item on Special should be about a $1.00 off. Geez. After we were seated, we remembered how noisy and humid this place is. Then while deciding what to order, we watched two other couples get up and leave w/o ordering. We considered leaving too, but decided to stick it out because we want to like this place. Next came the service. Our server turned out to be the bartender, and the bar was busy so it was tough to get good service. However this was not our server's fault; she was friendly and she hustled. This was management's fault for making a bartender do double-duty. So we looked over the drinks on Special, and again here we go - $4.75 for a Cap & Coke!? I don't think so. And if that is a Special, then what the heck does it normally cost? (FYI: we overheard two gals complain that their 'shots' cost $7.50 each, WOW!!!) Now on to the food menu. We ordered a bacon cheddar burger well-done and two pork tacos; $2.25 for one taco plus $0.35 upcharge for al-pastor, and $9.95 for this burger w/fries. The tacos were just ok, and the burger was well-done on one half and pink on the other. How is that possible? So the quality (& quantity) of the food does not justify the cost of it. I can't imagine how this place stays open. This was our last chance visit. They're fired...

Wow have the new owners ruined my experience. Ive ordered the same appetizer platter for years and now instead of the 20 some huge fried mushrooms we used to get we not got maybe 8 small ones.... SERIOUSLY!?. I ordered my enchilada and asked for salsa only to find the salsa is tomato water. I threw away my meal. The SALSA is my favorite part. Hell its my favorite FOOD! My husband always gets the hot wings and now they have changed the recipe.. Which sucks now. This place had a reputation for amazing hot wings and these idiots threw it out the window. I will truly miss this place. Its now a huge waste of money where i used to think of them as an amazing deal.

So pleasant sitting at the patio table looking out on Cedar Lake. Families are eating lunch outside our window at red wooden picnic tables in the sand. There us a breeze blowing through the screens. Our waitress is sweet and gave interesting advice on surrounding activities.

My girlfriend and I heard about this place from a friend. We gave it a shot and really enjoyed it. We had breakfast and the food was hot and delicious. I had the Sand Bar omelette, she had the 2x4. We ate outside and fortunately the weather was perfect for dining out on their patio. I'm sorry I can't remember her name, maybe Christen?, our sever , was on top of it the whole time. My coffee cup never emptied. Great place and good food for a real good price.

Went to sandbar July 5th for breakfast with a party of 7. There was no wait and were seated immediately. They were VERY short handed. It took atleast 20 minutes to get our drink orders taken so we put our meal order in at the same time. Everything came out staggered, so we didn't really get to eat together. The kitchen should really work on that! We ordered biscuits & gravy to share... That came out like it was our appetizer, not our desire but after waiting about 40 minutes for food I was happy to get anything. The biscuits & gravy were decent, could have used more salt and pepper in the gravy, biscuits were good. Next our breakfasts trickled out 1 by 1. No ones hash browns were cooked properly, not browned at all and the food was just warm, not hot. My husband didn't like his skillet at all and he isn't one to dislike anything. He said it was flavorless. My skillet was ok, but I covered it in hot sauce. I just can't get over the hash browns not being done & the small amount of cheese in the skillets! It was literally a pinch of 3-5 shreds. By the time everyone was finished with their meals I still had no pancakes. 5 min later they arrive but with no syrup so I had to use the lil bit my husband still had. The pancakes were pretty good, nothing special but tasty. I may go back again, but only because it's a fun location.

Something with this place is seriously broken! I returned here on July 6th for breakfast mainly because my daughter liked eating on the beach. I ordered a Denver omelette, my wife ordered pancakes and a side of hash browns and the kids ordered Mikey mouse pancakes. After about 15 minutes the kids both got their order, 10 minutes after that I got my omelette and the waitress said she would be right back with my wife's food. After 10 more minutes I waved down the waitress and asked about the pancakes, she said "I'm going to get it now"...20 minutes later she returns with the pancakes! Everyone had been finished eating for at least 15 minutes and she was nowhere to be found...it took 50 minutes to make pancakes!!! Don't know if it's the cooks or the wait staff or management but something is seriously wrong with this place! I overheard the people at the table behind us had the same problem...after trying this place three times I can now say I will not return...by the way my omelette wasn't half bad and my kids liked the pancakes but this is a restaurant and breakfast should be easily prepared and served quickly.

Stopped by Sandbar for breakfast this morning --YUM! My skillet came out fast and hot...not to mention the portions are HUGE! Definitely didn't leave hungry. Their coffee was very good as well. Service was attentive without being overly intrusive. Awesome lake views all around, and a heated three-season room for the full lake experience. Will definitely be back to try lunch or dinner, but breakfast is certainly TWO THUMBS UP!

This place is the branch from the owners of tastey top down the road. Im always on the lookout for an excellant burger. They have this rediculous 1/2 # burger cooked, dipped in their onion ring batter and deep fried. oh, my lord is it to die for. So good i cant remember if its a pretzel bun or not. lately they have had $3 Two hearted ale 16oz on tap. best beer around! They also do a batter dipped deep frie bacon. Yes you heard that right. Awesome! Live music outside on the beach area whiloe weather permits. Nicole Jamrose played recently and so did Jim Balunda. Worth ttrying. This is a very unique and awesome place to go. You can sit outside at a table in the sand and listen to live music which is cool. The food is good, not always consistent though. I've had the sandbar burger with fries and I love the pretzel bun the burger comes on. Friendly staff, fun atmosphere.

Just went for breakfast. Sat outside by the lake. Was kinda nice except for ther servers forget about outside. Ordered food and food was ice cold and the bacon was burnt to a crisp. Sounds to me like they need some new managers in this place. Wont be going back

Ate here on a Sunday afternoon following a day on the lake with three others. The couple we visited were just as disappointed with this experience as us, but I think they were a bit more disheartened as they mentioned it had been fairly good the two times before this visit. ***AMBIANCE & ENVIRONMENT***: As I mentioned, we (my wife and I, along with another couple) came on a summer afternoon. Doesn't look like much from the outside, and the inside is small and pretty dodgy at best. The tables have vinyl that sort of stuck to your skin, the menu, and anything else it came in contact with. Bathroom was mostly clean. Only real redeeming feature was the outside sitting area--located on the beach (though not in the surf per se). It was beautiful however seeing the sun start to set off of Cedar Lake--3 of 5 stars. ***FOOD/BEER*** We ordered the sampler basket (fried pickles, bacon [yes, bacon!], mozzarella sticks, and onion rings), cheeseburger, cesar chicken wrap, the turkey bacon club, and a round of waters (we were pretty dehydrated from the sun!) Sampler platter was what you might expect--fried bar food--nothing exceptional, nor terrible. Dipping the bacon in the syrup proved to be surprisingly good. The burger and club sandwich were similar, not noteworthy in either goodness nor the opposite. The fries, we all agreed, were the best part of our "main" meals/entrees. The cesar chicken wrap was disgusting--we agreed it smelled like "morning breath"...that's right. Pretty sure the water was well-water--had a gross salinated aftertaste that made anyone not use to drinking well water (myself included) have a difficult choice of drinking it or staying thirsty. 2 of 5 stars. ***SERVICE***: Two words: HORRIBLE SERVICE. We arrived at approximately 4pm and the place was pretty quiet. We were one of three table inside and there were three table occupied outside. Our waitress, who I wish I recalled her name. She was tall (5'10" or so), older (early 50s--though she looked prematurely aged) with graying-blondish hair semi-curly hair, with medium build. Wow--she is handily, one of the worst servers I've EVER experienced. When walking, one of our group's members first overheard this waitress complaining to her co-worker about a patron--it was loud enough for me to hear (I have a hearing deficit, coupled with water in my ear from the lake and the DJ playing--you know she was talking too loud). It took her 15 minutes to even come to the table to bring the menus or introduce herself--mind you, we noticed she was only covering two other tables of adults (one table with two adults, two kids and another table with three adults). When we asked for waters, she rolled her eyes and didn't respond, but came back 10 minutes later and asked curtly "do you all want something yet?"--we ordered the appetizers only--she came back to deliver the sampler plate after nearly 20 more minutes had passed. We asked for more water and she said "I'll just bring you all a pitcher so I don't have to keep refilling you". She came back after another 20 minutes had passed--why we decided to remain there and order food, will forever remain a mystery. We ordered our main entrees and we did not see her until the food was delivered. We asked for ketchup and extra napkins and were greeted once more with eye rolling and an audible sigh of contempt from her. We did not see her for nearly 45 MINUTES. We had planned on trying some of their desserts (namely the deep-fried oreo), but we had had enough. When she came back, we asked her to split the bill between the TWO debit cards. Again, she sighed louder and took the bill. She came back 15 minutes later and asked us annoyingly "How do y'all want this split up?". When we told her, in half, she said "Oh good, that makes this soooo much easier for ME". We tipped her appropriately for the services she rendered. Running time altogether was over 2.5 hours at a place we had only intended on being for about an hour or so. Interestingly, the family of four that was next to us were chatting with us about how bad of a server she was to them as well. They left her with no tip and had no qualms about vocalizing how dissatisfied they were with this place--this individual unfortunately soured our experience here and poorly reflects this establishment. -10 of 5 stars. In summary, if you're looking for a quick bite to eat--I'd stay away from this place and save your money for an establishment that offers less sass and better manners from staff. The service was the downfall of this place. Honestly, the other areas could have been easily overlooked had the service not been so TERRIBLE. I'm forced to give this place 1 of 5 stars because of this. We will never be back and will look forward to sharing my experience with others.

Ate outside on the beach seating, great fun for a central IL couple where eating outside means swating mosquitoes and not being able to see over the corn. Breakfast looked great & wish I had tried it, my corned beef on rhye was a 2. Wife had a bacon chicken wrap that was a 5. 5 on the onion rings as well. Don't follow Yelp / Google if the take you to the west side of the lake, WRONG.

Wish there was a 2.5 stars. This is not a whole 3 stars. Main reason we eat here is that there is nothing else. Wish they could keep staff as they have a regular turnover. Food is good but not great.

After reading the previous reviews I am shaking my head. .. Where else can you get amazing food at a great price and sit with your toes in the sand on a beach? ...This isn't you're typical Flo waitress carrying a big tray of everyone's food at once in her polyester suit .. boring! ...I went with 8 people was it staggered. .yes... less than a minute apart because your smiling wait staff carried your food herself and there is probably another waitress with the rest in her hands right behind her coming with the rest... burgers to die for! .... As far as staff sitting around or on their phones I didn't notice any of that. . The staff talked to everyone. . Including the owner! .. making sure all is prefect. . You won't get that at other restaurants! ...

Wish there was a 2.5 stars. This is not a whole 3 stars. Main reason we eat here is that there is nothing else. Wish they could keep staff as they have a regular turnover. Food is good but not great.

After reading the previous reviews I am shaking my head. .. Where else can you get amazing food at a great price and sit with your toes in the sand on a beach? ...This isn't you're typical Flo waitress carrying a big tray of everyone's food at once in her polyester suit .. boring! ...I went with 8 people was it staggered. .yes... less than a minute apart because your smiling wait staff carried your food herself and there is probably another waitress with the rest in her hands right behind her coming with the rest... burgers to die for! .... As far as staff sitting around or on their phones I didn't notice any of that. . The staff talked to everyone. . Including the owner! .. making sure all is prefect. . You won't get that at other restaurants! ...
