You know the phrase "water, water everywhere...but not a drop to drink"?? Well this place just screams "bison, bison everywhere...all all kinds of versions to eat"!! I was blown away by how many ways you can get bison here at this joint. I went with the Avalon burger topped with caramelized onions, Gruyere, bleu cheese, garlic aioli, and arugula. It was seriously delicious, like whoa. The bison wasn't as game-y as you might fear so I was pleasantly surprised and pleased. Also, this burger was honking, like half a pound honking. Seriously though, this girl ate the whole thing and loved it. On the side, I thought I would be a bit "healthier" than carb-laden fry deliciousness so I got the house made coleslaw instead. While it was good, it was just as caloric, if not more, than the fries. I was actually really sad when I found that out. Because now had I not only deprived myself of fries, but I had even made an apparently worse decision under the guise of truly trying to be "better". Darn it! Well, moral of the story, I'm getting the fries next time, or maybe the onion rings. They looked giant and awesome. One star off for the slightly slow service. We seemed forgotten at times. We didn't really care though, in the end, because my group had plenty to talk about, but just keep that in mind.

I took my family there and both my daughter and I receive medium rare steaks that were seriously undercook. Rare at best. I decided to give them another chance and I took a client there for dinner. Again, my steak was seriously underdone. And, we both ordered baked potatoes, only to find out they only had one baked potato available. It would be an hour before any more were ready! Steak restaurants should a) know how to prepare a steak and b) not run out of baked potatoes. The pickles are good, however.

Ugh this place has gone downhill. Just finished "eating" here and it was really bad. The meatloaf was way past its prime. The salad was brown and the salmon was severely undercooked. The only thing I enjoyed was the beer. I think this place needs to tighten up management and demand better from the kitchen.

Just an awesome burger place in my book. 4.5 stars We both had bison burgers and a side on onion rings for lunch at Friday primetime. It was busier than the last time but none too busy. House dill chippers - awesome. Just one television in house but we were close enough to catch the tourney scores. Our burgers - one medium, mine medium rare were cooked perfectly but lacked if anything a little salt. Onion rings were perfect, warm and nicely seasoned. Both burger came nicely appointed w/ good garden - I had added swiss and wonderfully grilled onion chunks. Service was spot on. I'll keep coming back as long as they're open.

Nice ambience. It's silly to order crab cakes here, but I can never say no (not because other things don't look appetizing but because I love crab cakes that much). The brine pickles (?) are interesting. The meatloaf comes highly recommended. The service varies from "as expected" to "quite good."

The decor is made up of lots of wood and leather as you would expect from a western place. The bar stretches the length of the dining room and really makes the saloon theme complete. The only thing missing from my imagination was a set of double doors at the entrance. The server was terrific. She really knew the menu and was super efficient.he was there with suggestions like when my friend couldn't decide between fries or onion rings she offered a half and half. We were a table of seven and one plate was slow coming to the table. The manager was there to apologize and assure us the food was being expedited. It arrived two minutes later. Most places would have let our food sit in the window for the two minutes instead of making the extra effort. The entree of choice for us was the Avalon Bison Burger cooked medium rare. With Gruyere and grilled onions it is a terrific burger. The onion rings are huge and crispy on the outside. I had the bleu burger and really enjoyed the touch of bacon and bleu cheese on my perfectly cooked Bison. For those not looking for red meat there are also numerous chicken and fish choices available. One of our party had a fish sandwich and she said it was delicious. There is a full bar of course with local beers on tap along with a wide range of national bottles. I hear the margaritas are top notch too and not too sweet. I would be remiss if I did not mention that the place is kid friendly. They have a great kids menu including mac and cheese and some kid sized sliders. This is a great restaurant and I recommend it for celebrations and family dining.

I was unimpressed and won't be back, but it wasn't TERRIBLE. The place is echoey and not very nice for a date...there was nothing special about the plating. Didn't really enjoy it.

It says traditional American but the food is unique here and so delicious! The service is always quick and polite and they have some excellent staff. The decor is classy old western and is very well done. I've never had a bad meal here. The meatloaf dinner is a twist on a traditional family meal and doesn't fail to deliver. The everything but the kitchen sink burger is one of my favorite meals here, you've got to try it. Ted's is one of my staple favorite restaurants and I always enjoy a meal here.
An interesting saloon concept. Most noteworthy is the fact that they serve bison. It's such a delicious red meat that people should eat more often. Their fries are hand cut, milkshakes are hand scooped. They even have Heinz ketchup which isn't common in Indiana restaurants.

I came here with coworkers for lunch and was pleasantly surprised, as a vegetarian, to find a housemade veggie burger at a steak/burger place like this! Unfortunately, it was not one of my favorites. It was good, and seemed to be made partially of mushrooms, but it was lacking a lot of flavor for me and tasted greasy. I ate half of it there and took the rest with me (it's pretty big), and later on that day, that second half actually tasted a lot better- like it needed to sit to properly get the flavors blended. The broccoli was good, but would've been better with just the tops and some more parmesan. Overall though, quick service, a good experience, and I would recommend for people who like standard American food - just not my kind of place. Loved the paper map covering the table though, that was fun.

In a quick summary, food definitely outshined service on our visit, but the longer story is worth telling... The European aversion to ice in drinks incidentally gave me a quick "early warning system" of the service to be expected at any establishment. If a server can hear and actually deliver "water, no ice, double lemon", all will be well. That night I got a glass packed with ice and only an ounce of water plus one lemon. The restaurant has four types of Bison Ridge wines. A cabernet appeared a safe choice in anticipation of red meat to follow. My order included indicating the wine and precise pointing at the menu. Well, I got a Chardonnay instead... Luckily, by then pecan encrusted trout was calling my name, lucky mistake. Another consistent indicator or ultimate restaurant quality is its coffee, especially at dinner time. It took two tries to finally get it (forgotten by the server at first try with dessert...). When it came, my estimate of sitting on the burner would be 3-4 hours, since lunch. Now to the happy experience of food. Delicious crispy pickles as a starter - brilliant! Trout - nice enough, although pecan encrusted appeared more along the lines of "breaded with occasional chunks of pecans". Tangy sauce that came with it was delicious. The fries did not look different, but surprised with hot fresh crispness. Cole slaw cut in heftier chunks of cabbage that usual - fresh and mild. Haagen Dazs ice cream and shakes is a simple, but a smart choice. Like the pickles, it will stick in your memory and bring you back, as soon as the memory of service fades...

Can I just say, pickles!!! OMG! So much better than getting bread before a meal! Their bison burgers are always delicious. Been here a few times and the food is always spot on. Service can be a bit wishywashy, but upon prompting or reminding the staff they always accommodate you. It doesn't get as busy as some places do on weekend evenings, which is a definite plus!

We have passed this place many a times but finally decided to step in. So glad we did! Homey/American feeling atmosphere, once seated you get a small bowl of half-sours (half pickle/half cucumber). Eco-friendly straws. A mirror at your booth... just FYI. Having no idea they served bison meat, I pursued the menu only to find the option of burgers with regular beef or bison. Once we inquired the waitress informed us that we could try a sample to ensure we like it before we ordered. It was delicious! Very tender and lean. Cooked to perfection! We booth got burgers, I had the fries and he had the onion rings. We loved all of it! Couldn't find a fault if I wanted to. Definitely one of our top faves for Carmel area!

Restaurant was mostly empty. Still waited 45 minutes for our food. My $30 beef ribeye ordered medium rare came out medium to completely well on one half, like it caught on fire. I will not be going back. I expected them to be able to cook a Steak to temperature. Too expensive and poor quality. I'll try Texas Roadhouse or Longhorn Steakhouse next time!

We had an early lunch here today. It was pretty quiet, but an excellent atmosphere and great service. Our server (Alex?) was polite and gave great recommendations. I got the veggie burger with kale salad. The veggie burger was delicious with garlic aioli, lettuce and tomatoes. I didn't try the bun but it looked like a good quality wheat bun. I try these everywhere I go and this is definitely one of the best I've had recently. Kale salad was good. My dining partner had the "George's Cadillac" burger with fries, which he said was very good and it was HUGE! All in all, a very pleasant experience.

I was headed to grab pizza for dinner, when a steak craving but me with a strong right hook. I "yelped" for a steakhouse & this came up first with decent ratings- so we redirected our gps & hit up this joint. Absolutely obsessed with the small details of this restaurant, such as the paper straws, brown paper table cloths & a suave saloon style bar. The filet was decent, not worth $22. My asparagus were delicious & the onion rings were spot on. What wasn't acceptable was the volume coming from the kitchen staff while they sang "I'm sorry Mrs. Jackson".. Discussed how they didn't like being up early (mind you it's 8pm on a Saturday night) & just overall annoying jibberish being squawked at each other, at a level high enough to be heard over the entire restaurant. I am all for a loud, happy, energetic environment but this was just unprofessional to me. I will probably come back because I really liked the asparagus & onion rings, but I will without a doubt sit outside. I'm halfway convinced that a brick wall will drown out the sound of the kitchen staff.

Our experience was disappointing: there are only 6 beers on tap, one of which is local. Also, the staff check IDs inconsistently. I am 32 years old and my companions are all older than me. We were all carded, but the patrons next to us at the bar were not, and the bartender had told us that she is required to. The patrons next to us looked about the same age.

Had their Delmonico Beef Ribeye (medium rare). Wow! Very tasty, tender, and very large (14 oz!). Also had the asparagus and a sweet potato...both cooked just right. The waiter was very polite and prompt. No complaints whatsoever. This was a special treat for me...I would definitely come back again whenever we can afford it.

This place was a let down. I had heard if you want a good hamburger, this is the place. I am not big on eating meat these days but when I do, I want it to be worth it. This was not., the place was empty, service was still very slow and the food lacked flavor. I won't go out of my way to make a return visit.

I gave our waiter this following pop quiz: was the restaurant founded by Ted Turner or Ted Nugent? He got it right! Service was excellent and the food is very, very good and reasonable priced. I'm a meatloaf freak so had the bison meatloaf which was two generous slices with gravy and two sides. I went their with family and friends and nobody was disappointed. Ted says to save the American Bison we must eat 'em! I agree with that logic and so should you! I'm surprised on a Thurs eve it wasn't busier but what do I know -- I moved from Indpls to NYC in 1990.

food came cold - sent it back and i think they put it under a hot lamp, but was no warmer - the bison meatloaf my husband had was fairly tasty, but also cold - onion rings were ok - best part was the potato chips and dip - won't be going back - reasonable prices, nice idea with the bison menu items - but nothing could fix the cold food.

Great service, great burgers. The New Mexico is particularly awesome. I love that give you half sour pickles as your 'starter' instead of bread or anything. It's different and they are delicious! My husband is a burger guy and he was very impressed. The prices are fair and the portions are huge. He loved that you can do a 50/50 with your side and get half onion rings and half fries instead of all fries. I loved that all the burgers can be made with veggie burgers. Of course, they are the standard Boca, but at least it's an option. You don't find that everywhere. It's a little (lot!) noisy, but overall, a really good experience.
The service and steak were excellent but the sides were salty and not tasty. Not a good choice except for a burger.

So I'm in Indy for work again and the typical "Where do we go for dinner?" dilema comes up. Being the only Yelper in the group, I bring it up on the iPhone and quickly find that Ted's Montana Grill's got great ratings and it's only 5 miles away. Off to Ted's we go. Once again a great find. Thank you Yelp! Ted's, as we later found out, is a famous steak house chain out of Hawt-lanta owned by who else but Ted Turner (he pretty muchowns everything in Atlanta). They have a decent list of daily specials. Today being Monday, we tried the spicy bison chili. Man that's gooood chili! Their specialty is steak, both beef and bison. I highly recommend trying the bison steak (best when ordered medium). They have no freezers or microwaves at Ted's so everything is buthered on site and prepared fresh every day. The bison come from Mr. Turner's private ranch out west. Aparently they have a great list of deserts but by that point we were all too stuffed on delicious bison meat that we couldn't even think about desert. I will definately come back here next time I'm in town.

When you don't know what food is suppose to taste like of course you'll say its good! Besides the ambiance being upscale don't let that brass and dark wood fool ya! The food is far from it! you can do it yourself at home. Speaking of cooking at home... I took my left over pecan encrusted trout, asparagus and the cole slaw from here home and grilled me a piece of salmon. My lunch today was yum. I figure I had beef the night before so at a steak house I ordered fish. So what! if you can cook, then this fish should have been a walk in the park! It was listed in the section called house specialty so I figured the cook had it down to a science and that's why I went for it. It comes raw the pecan crust is brown the fish underneath is raw. I wish chef Ramsey were here! the cole slaw full of heart attacking mayo on a plate. I send it back. This time asked if they could season the fish with some salt and pepper. It was the worst flat bland tasting piece of fish I ever tasted. Nothing but oil in the crust no spices. Flat. I packed it up ate the asparagus and tasted my friends veggie burger in all it's mushy gushy glory YUCK! the flavor was there the texture wasn't My other friend at beef burger and fries with bacon big whup! I didn't need to taste that nobody's burgers taste like mine,or fish or steak or bbq or fried chicken. I swear I don't know why I bother. Don't have to eat here ever again. The wine and company was great! and 30.00 later...

Service was excellent. The food was good - fresh but sometimes overcooked. Here's the breakdown: Kids chicken tenders and fries was good. Bison post roast with mashed potatoes and green beans was excellent. Chicken caesar salad was fresh. Ted's beef filet, butterflied, was seasoned well but slightly overcooked. The roasted asparagus was so salty as to be almost inedible, and cooked to the point of destruction. The avalon burger was good, but needed more aoli and less lettuce. I would definitely try it again, based on service, but might order a few different items. For the price point, I've had more satisfying meals.

The service was good and so was their wedge salad. I have eaten here twice and think it is a good place to grab a quick lunch.

Great veggie burger option at lunch time and just sat at the bar. Restaurant was nice and quiet and service was very good. Lots of fries and good fresh tasting and hot as you like them. WIFI in the restaurant but I think that it came from Qdoba next door (?).

Food is very good, service is great, but hello EXPENSIVE! Expect to pay $50 for 2 for lunch! Imagine the dinner prices! My salad by itself was $13! The burgers are between $15 and $20.

Before going to Ted's I had checked Yelp and seen generally positive reviews. Having said that, I wasn't expecting all that much out of the place going in to dinner. I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the cedar plank salmon (lunch portion) with green beans and I substituted a sweet potato for the mashed potatoes. The green beans were great, the sweet potato was perfect on its own without requiring any butter or brown sugar, and the salmon was cooked and seasoned PERFECTLY. The service was also great. After tip my meal was $23. Not bad at all for quality food.

Awesome organic bison burgers are the star of the show and tons of green aditions from local produce to recycled paper straws. The focus on healthy lifestyle choices combined with the absolutely amazing food makes this a must dine.

I love this place. I've enjoyed everything I've ordered but I keep finding myself drawn back to the Canyon Creek Bison Burger (med rare). Don't let the menu description throw you. It is unusual...unusually delicious!

I so wanted to love this place. I had heard great things and read the reviews, so we decided to try it on a special occasion. What a huge disappointment! The restaurant was pretty empty so we were seated right away. Things went south after that. Our server didn't take our drink order (not even water) for over 5 minutes. The soda was completely flat, so we asked for bottled soda from the bar. The waitress actually rolled her eyes and huffed at the request! Then left for another 10 minutes We weren't asked for our orders for nearly 20 minutes - even though we tried to get the waitress's attention and the place only had maybe 3 other small parties. She was too busy gabbing with the other wait staff and the cooks. Only when we finally got a chance to order did she mention they were out of beef. Yes, out of beef! That would have been nice to know when she handed us the menu. She stood there tapping her foot and sighing heavily as we tried to quickly order other items - but in retrospect should have cut our losses and bailed. It took an additional 25 minutes to get our food. Now, if it were really busy I could see why it would take so long for a children's meal and sandwiches for 3 adults, but how frustrating to watch the staff gossip with the cooks on the line - yes we could hear it all - and then have our food arrive cold and the orders completely messed up. Even my little one thought it wasn't very good and asked if we could go somewhere else. The waitress was really upset that she had to take back the undercooked chicken and ask the kitchen for HOT fries. I mean visibly upset - like angry! We told her to forget it and were getting up to leave when the manager appeared with a great attitude and desire to make things right. I really appreciated how professional and courteous he was, but frankly, it was too late to make anything right. We left and - I kid you not - drove through McDonald's on the way home.

Went with the 4. This place reminds me of somewhere my dad would have liked. Its designed to feel like a restraunt/tavern from the past and it pulls if off well. The food is straight forward and a little old fashioned and but done very well. Bison is a specialty as the name suggest. Great burgers.

I really like it here. Everything is really classy. I like the paper straws! They serve sliced pickles instead of bread, which is kind of cool. Tasty. You HAVE to get the Bison Burger if you go here. Not saying get it every time, but it is really yummy. Plus, it is much healthier than ground beef. I suggest any burger with guacamole. Deliciouso.

This review is tainted by a very odd, creepy server. I went for dinner and had the bison ribeye. It was ok, but I think the burger is a much better selection. I also ordered the Cabo Margarita and it was prepared well and tasted good. The meal was ok, nothing great, but the server really made us uncomfortable. I appreciate the effort in recycling they do, and the restaurant seemed well decorated. I might go again, but it's not a must do again.

This is an awesome place, especially since they specialize in buffalo meat. Buffalo tastes better than beef and it is much healthier. I also love Ted's homemade pickles that they give you before the meal. This is great chain.

I have one - er, two - things to say about Ted's Montana Grill: great crab cakes and addictive cherry lemonade! For a chain steakhouse, Ted's does a decent job of delivering consistently tasty food at reasonable prices. The only complaint I've ever had about this location is that the weekend wait for a table can be long...but, that's true of just about any Indy metro restaurant at that time. We've always had good service here and we usually have a large party of 10-12 when we visit, so that's saying something. I've sampled a few of the menu items, but my personal favorites are still the crab cakes - either as a dinner or appetizer - and the veggie plate. Come to think of it, Ted's may be the only place I know of other than Cracker Barrel that offers a veggie plate as a dinner option. The endless glass of cherry lemonade always hits the spot and is neither too sweet nor too tangy. What have I forgotten.....?? Oh yeah, the amazing super-crispy onion rings and the spicy garlic "house" pickle slices that come to your table after you're seated..delish!

I'll start and say that this place is a solid 4. The food is rather tasty and cooked well. The only negative thing i can say, is that the service can be bad/slow. I suggest the SOB burger medium rare and the Strawberry shortcake, when in season. The shortcake IS the best I've ever had.

I LOVE THIS PLACE. I have had so many great meals here I can't tell you about just one. Here is a little overview: Super nice decor, think steak house w/ a little retro feel. Great big booths, tables w/ picnic-esque table clothes, and in the bathroom marble stalls with borax powder soap to wash your hands. The major difference than any other steakhouse is that they specialize in bison (it is a leaner, healthier meat than beef but with all the flavor). The menu contains 2 full pages devoted to sandwiches.. choice of beef, bison, or chicken with just about any topping imaginable. They have great salads, the house dressing is a blt ranch.. all i know is it is bacon, tomatoes, chives and ranch all mixed together! The also have entrees; steaks, prime, salmon, beer can chicken, meatloaf, etc. Every day they have a different soup and diff. blue plate special...Saturday is bison short rib day (i have had it a few too many times) I think Friday is crab cakes.. not just any crab cakes delicious mounds of big chunks of crab served with mashed avocado... heaven! Service is usually okay but nothing to right home about.. never really any problems but not the kind of place to go the extra step. Which is why this is only a 4 star rating.

Ted's is excellent for what it is. It is a downhome burger place. The service is efficient and friendly. They serve Bison which is lean and delicious, and they have cold beer. When I want a consistent meal, I go here. Love it. It's not the Taj Mahal of dining, but I love it on a lazy Friday night.

I broke from tradition this time and had a Beef Ribeye rather than a burger. Overall this was a great meal. The ribeye was properly prepared and cooked to order, with just enough fat for flavor but not too much. Service was equally impressive; our server kept our drinks refilled and even suggested a great dessert. One of the things I like about the physical layout of the restaurant is the booth construction. The booths have tall "walls" that provide a lot of privacy.

I was in for a business Lunch, the half sours are great start! I had a bison burger with sautéed mushrooms onion and topped with fancy cheese that I don't know how to spell but it was awesome. I got the half fries half onion rings as a side which no one does. They have the small crunchy ice for soda which put it over the top for me! I had passed this place a 100 times and really thought it would be average, it was nearly perfect. I want to go back for dinner and have an entree.

Love coming here... Great for families.... Lots of choices and casual dining. Outdoor seating and an easy ride from monon trail

(2)Kelsey R.

Seriously? This place is terrible! Don't try the salmon . They have no clue. Bison is just ok. Look at all the other reviews no wonder the place is always empty

(1)A. P.
(4)Adam R.
Great restaurant and very friendly/professional staff. Especially appreciate the fact that our son with food allergies can eat there. Highly recommend.
(5)Shelly F.
This place was a let down. I had heard if you want a good hamburger, this is the place. I am not big on eating meat these days but when I do, I want it to be worth it. This was not., the place was empty, service was still very slow and the food lacked flavor. I won't go out of my way to make a return visit.
(2)Citizen J.
(5)Christy S.
food came cold - sent it back and i think they put it under a hot lamp, but was no warmer - the bison meatloaf my husband had was fairly tasty, but also cold - onion rings were ok - best part was the potato chips and dip - won't be going back - reasonable prices, nice idea with the bison menu items - but nothing could fix the cold food.

(4)Leona P.
We always get great service here. Steve was no exception. I had the crab cake appetizer and the cedar plank salmon with asparagus instead of the green beans it usually comes with. It was a delicious meal - one of my favorites. My fiancé had the delmonico bison of which I had a bite. It was mouthwatering! If you're in the Clay Terrace area don't pass up Ted's!
(4)Don K.

(3)Mike B.
The service was good and so was their wedge salad. I have eaten here twice and think it is a good place to grab a quick lunch.
(3)Jan P.
First time to visit Ted's, tried the meatloaf sandwich (without cheese). It was by far the best meatloaf I ever had.
(5)Jim B.
Great veggie burger option at lunch time and just sat at the bar. Restaurant was nice and quiet and service was very good. Lots of fries and good fresh tasting and hot as you like them. WIFI in the restaurant but I think that it came from Qdoba next door (?).
(4)Jeff W.
Food is very good, service is great, but hello EXPENSIVE! Expect to pay $50 for 2 for lunch! Imagine the dinner prices! My salad by itself was $13! The burgers are between $15 and $20.
(4)D G.
(4)Eva L.
Burgers are simply wonderful, salmon is fresh and tasty. Beware the paper straws -they work well but aren't what you're probably expecting.
(5)Steve C.
Food is OK, but terribly overpriced.
(2)Drew H.
Awesome organic bison burgers are the star of the show and tons of green aditions from local produce to recycled paper straws. The focus on healthy lifestyle choices combined with the absolutely amazing food makes this a must dine.
(5)Byron E.
I love this place. I've enjoyed everything I've ordered but I keep finding myself drawn back to the Canyon Creek Bison Burger (med rare). Don't let the menu description throw you. It is unusual...unusually delicious!
(5)Barb S.

(4)Chad B.
Deliciouso.
(4)Nathan G.
(3)Kalyee H.
I didn't try the bison, but I had a hamburger and it was really tasty. Our server was friendly and we received drinks/food pretty fast.
(4)Mike F.
This is an awesome place, especially since they specialize in buffalo meat. Buffalo tastes better than beef and it is much healthier. I also love Ted's homemade pickles that they give you before the meal. This is great chain.
(4)Betsy A.
(4)Jason C.
Food = bleh. Service = great. 3 of us dining. Onion rings were soso. Prime rib was cardboard. Ribeye was soso. Bison filet was bleh.
(2)Michael D.
I'll start and say that this place is a solid 4. The food is rather tasty and cooked well. The only negative thing i can say, is that the service can be bad/slow. I suggest the SOB burger medium rare and the Strawberry shortcake, when in season. The shortcake IS the best I've ever had.
(4)allison s.
(4)Dan S.
Wow. The bison burgers here are great. I had the "Cadillac" something or another, and it was fantastic. The fries are very good, too. Great pub food.
(5)Peter D.
(4)Tom B.
