While out & about we were wanting something for dinner better than fast food but without a horrifically long wait. We opted for the Mandarin House. The food & the interior compliment each other as both are superior to many other restaurants in the area. We started off with an order of pot stickers. There are 6 in an order & they were cooked quite well...not over or underdone. The meals came with the soup of the day which was Egg Drop soup. The soup was nice & hot, served with crunchy fried noodles on the side. This was the first time I'd had Egg Drop soup with a small amount of onion & peas. I'm not a fan of onions but the soup was actually very good. My husband ordered Kong Pao Shrimp & I had the General Tso's Chicken. We decided to add a dish of Yui Shan Broccoli as a side & are quite happy we did! Everything came out nice & hot with a large dish of white rice. Though each person orders a meal you are given enough clean plates so that the meals can be shared family style. The portions were large enough that we had enough to take home to two VERY hungry teenage boys! The General Tso Chicken was not overly breaded, the sauce was spiced well & the pieces were nicely size. Delicious!! The Kong Pao Shrimp was just as good, nice jumbo shrimp that was cooked just right. We'd never heard of Yui Shan but that preparation was well matched to the broccoli. We were seated quickly. Our waitress was friendly & service was quick. I don't think our water glasses were ever empty. We felt neither rushed nor neglected. The decor is definitely above par compared to most other Chinese restaurants: mostly soft blue walls (the one along the back is a smokey brown color) with simple, tasteful artwork, dark wooden floors & a pretty white pillar with stone. There were no booths that we noticed, simply nice tables with table clothes (under glass) & comfortable padded chairs without any rips or tears. There is also a large well-kept fish tank with several kinds of fish.

I've never been there except for Sunday brunch. So I am gonna talk about that. The settings are good. Couple round tables, chinese style. Also some tables that can sit four people. The brunch buffet is 12 plus tax and there are A LOT of food selections. There are American chinese dishes like broccoli beef or Hot and Sour soup. But the majority are REAL Chinese food. Don't expect a variety of Dim Sum here. There are probably 6. The chinese food is southern chinese style, so it's a little on the sweet side.

I have eaten in a number of Chinese restaurants around the country. I was excited to try a "real" Chinese restaurant in Indiana especially after seeing the four star review on yelp. We started with some pot stickers and spring rolls. Then, we ordered Orange Chicken and Mongolian beef. Unfortunately the only thing that wasn't absolutely horrible was the spring rolls. We definitely won't be back.

My favorite Chinese restaurant in Indiana for over 12 years. The House Beef is as delicious today as the first day I ever had it, and this is the ONLY place I will order Hot & Sour Soup. Recently discovered that they have a Sunday buffet during lunch. It is awesome. Lots of Asian folk here, which lets you know you're in for a treat. Two "aisles" of dishes. The one in the front had more immediately recognizable items. The one behind it had the more "exotic" items, including my FAVORITE, the Hot & Savory Chicken - which I wish came in a large grocery bag so that I could just carry it around with me and eat it like popcorn. If you're not a fan of the fast-food Chinese, give this place a try. I bet you'll like it.

This place is terrible! I would avoid at all costs. Used to like it. The Chinese service has always been bad, but is now downright rude. The woman pretended like she didn't hear us when we asked for something. Also portions have shrunken significantly. Food is mediocre at best. Will not return.

My Fiance and I were sitting at home one Friday night, starving, not willing to cook and not wanting to order out yet again. We were on the hunt for a new Chinese place in Carmel and after reading reviews we decided to give this place a try. I am glad we did! Service was quick and friendly, the ambiance was relaxing and the food was hot and delicious. We ordered the crab rangoon app and it was pretty good. Perfect dough to filling ratio. For our entrees we ordered General Tso's and Chicken with Veggies. Both entrees came with soup. That day it was egg drop soup which isn't my favorite but it was still good. Our entrees were delicious! This is seriously the best General Tso's I have ever had. Not overly sweet, perfectly spicy. The chicken was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. They didn't drown the chicken in the sauce either. The Fiance liked his meal too. No complaints. I think we have found our new favorite Chinese place.

This place used to be a great Chinese place and always loved going here. In the last few years, it has gone way down hill in terms of service and food quality. The waitresses are totally not friendly, no manager is ever visible, and the food is average at best. Sichuan down the street is better! Save your money!

Last Sunday we went to Mandarin House for their buffet. It's only offered on Sunday and has a large selection of soups, apps, entrees and desserts that vary from the more mainstream (hot & sour soup, pot stickers, beef with broccoli) to items you don't normally see on restaurant menus in Indy (stir fried chicken feet, tripe, red bean dumplings). Everything we tried was quite good. This was some of the better Chinese food I've had in Indy. The buffet is worth checking out and is reasonably priced around $12 for all you can eat.

This place is a nice Chinese restaurant in Carmel, IN. They have a Chinese menu AND a Korean menu. I've been here many times over the past 5 years and have tried many dishes from both menus. I'll say my favorites are the House Cantonese pan-fried noodles on the Chinese menu and the JamBong on the Korean menu. +) There's also many good Chinese appetizers, drunken chicken (comes in slices), etc. One more thing, I also like the spicy lamb dish on the Chinese menu. Their service is pretty good. Always refill your ice water, hot tea, and white rice!

This Chinese restaurant was above average and exceeded all expectations. The interior decor was very pleasant and did not have a cheesy Chinese buffet look or feel, which is good because it shouldn't be in the same category as that type of Chinese food. Service was good, not great; although, it was very friendly and helpful. Some of the dishes were very flavorful (Mongolian beef, kong-pao shrimp, and even the crab Rangoon) and some needed a bit of adjusting (sizzling rice soup, egg drop soup, and the cashew chicken). The soups could have been served warmer, the black tea was excellent and a good time was had by all members of our party of five. I would suggest ordering your meal family style which is listed on the very last page of the menu for the best experience. Overall, this was a perfect substitute to the long lines of other more well known Chinese restaurants in the area and a very enjoyable time.

We went to Mandarin House on a group work lunch outing and I was very pleased with my experience here. It's your usual Chinese food, with a bit more class. The atmosphere is calm, not chaotic like a Chinese buffet. The tables are really interesting as they have a middle section that spins, which I'm assuming is if people want to share food items. The wait staff was kind and helpful. I split an order of pot stickers with a coworker as an appetizer and they were quite delicious. They were mushy in just the right way, not overdone or underdone. For my soup selection, I picked the hot and sour soup and I was very impressed with it. It tasted like most other hot and sour soups, but that's what we all like, right? I ordered sweet and sour chicken for my main course and it came out on a plate bigger than my head. The portion was healthy, but not overwhelming. I had a great amount of fried rice, chicken, sweet and sour sauce, as well as a few crag ragoons, and an egg roll, if I'm remembering correctly. I was very happy when leaving, but not so happy that I had to go back to work with a stomach full of MSG-blasted Chinese food.

Compared to their Sunday lunch buffet, their dinner is so bad. We ordered from the Chinese menu. Unfortunately all three dishes were below the bar. And the portions were so small for the prices. We were both so disappointed that we vowed to never go back for their dinner ever again. I really miss CA!

This review is for the Sunday brunch buffet, which is only $11! Like any good buffet, we came, we ate, and we were conquered before we could try everything. The buffet has a combination of traditional dim sum dishes, authentic non-Dim Sum dishes, and some Americanized Chinese food. The food on the back tables seems to be the most authentic, and I think I would come back just for the sticky rice and thin slices of duck! Most dishes are Guangdong style, so they aren't spicy. The place was full of Chinese people, so you know at least the Carmel Chinese community endorses it. Each table also receive complementary tea, and I can sit and drink tea all day! However, I think this place shines out for sheer quantity, not necessarily quality. I left stuffed, but I could only remember a couple of items that I really enjoyed. I don't know if the buffet contains the same items each Sunday, but I felt that a lot of the offering were a bit mediocre.

This is not your usual $9.99 pseudo-Chinese buffet. This is the real deal. Have an open mind and order something that doesn't have the words "General" or "sweet and sour" in it and you will not be disappointed. Remember that traditional Asian dining is always family-style. Order at least 1 entree per person in your party and use the Lazy Susan.

Our family went here for the second time last night.... The atmosphere is typical of a Chinese restaurant. The wait staff is o.k. The food is very mediocre. We ordered the dinner for 4 last night. We had Garlic Chicken, Kung pow Chicken, Sweet and Sour Pork and Mongolian Beef. The sweet and sour pork was fried to death hard as a rock sauce was typical, the garlic and Kung Pow were so so the Mongolian Beef was very good.... The sizzling rice soup o.k., the egg rolls were not very good as was the Fried Crab Rangoon. Nothing in the Rangoon not enough cream cheese and no fake crab..... Would we go back NO... I would rather go to Panda Express... Thank you! P.s. sorry about the spelling of the Kung Pow Chicken...

Nice ambiance, table cloth (under glass top), full service sit-in restaurant. They have a Chinese Menu with more traditional entrees. As for taste, it is probably not fair to compare it to restaurants in larger metropolitan areas with large Asian population, but it is good enough to draw local Chinese population to the restaurant on a regular basis. The Sunday Buffet is not bad, again for this area. Personal favorites: Beef Chow Fun, Beef Noodle Soup.

Had their sunday lunch buffet. This was the first time we had to wait for a table for a chinese buffet which speaks for the quality of food. The wait time was little more than 20 mins I think. Food was great and more on the authentic side. They had a good assortment of dim sum's - enough to fill you up before moving to the other general fare of items. Clean and well run establishment and friendly staff.

People here expect vegetables in all Chinese dishes. A lunch buffet is also kind of an expectation. We got neither and were disappointed. Only bright spot was the price.

This is a great lunch spot ! I am glad to have found this little jewel. Their lunch specials are tasty and priced right. The portions are just right for lunch and the soup and crab rangoons are yummy. Friendly service and sparkling clean environment seem to be the norm here, always a major plus. Try the beef and broccoli or sesame chicken, always consistent and tasty.

This is one of my favorite Chinese restaurants. They do a great job of getting you in and out during the lunch hour. Food is fast and really well made. I love getting their pot stickers as an appetizer. Their lunches are great. The chicken dishes actually taste like chicken instead of deep fried something or other. The beef is always well cut and well seasoned. You don't get much fat on any of the meat. My favorite part is all the lunch combos come with crab rangoon, and they do a great crab rangoon.

I eat here often with coworkers and we all love this place! Lunch dishes are about $7-$8 and you get a large portion of food. I usually get the sesame chicken but all of the lunch dishes come with fried rice, soup (authentic soup), and two crab rangoon. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone wanting a filling, affordable lunch!

I've been ordering carryout from here and occasionally dining in for years. I think they have great food and their lunch specials are reasonable with large portions. Garlic Pork is my favorite! There seemed to be some hiccups while they were moving locations, but I still love this place. I think it's at the top of the list for Carmel Chinese carryout. Dining in is nice, too, but I just usually pick something up and take it home. The prices are higher than your typical carry out spot, but I think the quality of food reflects that.

Yeah back again...because it's so darn good. Business lunch. Love this place. Doesn't matter if you're in suit/tie or casual - digs are just nice enough you'll be comfortable either way. So why the updated review since I just did this a month ago? Because I discussed with our waitress making a somewhat spicy dish more spicy. A very wise decision - she was very helpful and my dish was wonderfully aglow. So - don't take the menu advice (because it must be for very delicate palates) - let them know if you prefer spicier flavors. (frankly they're 1/2/3 stars spicy is nowhere near standard spiciness ratings)

A great dining experience with traditional Chinese cuisine. The buffet had a vast selection of dishes that ranged from the ordinary (General Tso's type chicken) to the exotic (spicy pig's feet). Service was always with a smile and servers were very attentive. They had great vegetarian options as well.

This is probably my favorite place for Chinese food. We like to order carry out and take it home. Just wish they delivered! It is a bit expensive, but you wont be disappointed in the food. I recommend this place. :)

Sunday's at Mandarin House in #Carmel off Rangeline are simply the best since they feature their buffet. The only day of the week you will find all these combinations available to sample. Try unique and traditional Asian cuisine and discover your new favorite. The is a great way to experience what you are missing from other Chinese buffet's around town. Recommended. Very authentic.

I'm always skeptical about having a meal of Chinese food in the middle of the work day. Not that I don't do it. I'm just skeptical of it. Just because it makes that pull for a mid-afternoon nap so much stronger. Years ago when a few colleagues suggested it for lunch, I was skeptical. Giving in to their peer pressure was the best decision ever. I fell in love with Mandarin House that day and have found even more reasons for the love since. Let's start with the soup. Hot and Sour or Egg Drop. You can't go wrong with either. The Hot and Sour has that spicy pull that has your spoon picking up speed as you crane your neck closer to the bowl. Tiny drops of soup start popping up on the table and you sit back, startled at your momentary loss of composure. The Egg Drop has that comforting warmth that creeps into your soul, glazes your eyes, and has you staring off into space with a sappy look on your face. And that's just the start of the meal. I try to stay adventurous for the main course, straying from my favorites to try something new on occasion. While I've enjoyed many good meals, my favorite remains Pork Lo Mein. It's the noodles. Extra thin egg(?) noodles that allow for a better vegetable/noodle ration with each forkful. I can never finish and always end up with a cold noodle breakfast the next day. It's just...those noodles. I'm terribly addicted to those noodles. Last, but not least, their lunch specials come with a couple crab rangoon. I absolutely love this. Because what is better than cream cheese AND crab? Frying it, of course. I just love this place.

Ordered a team dinner from here while a group of us were working late, and can't say I was over the moon about it, but they have some good options. First off - the wontons. The wonton soup was great, and even better was the hot chili oil wonton appetizer. The wontons just have a great texture and are huge. The main course was a little more disappointing. The honey chicken was very dry, although the lemony after-taste was quite pleasing. All in all, a good quick bite for a relatively good price.

Let me start by say if you come here and order from there regular menu then you're doing it all wrong. Ask for the Chinese menu. There form of cooking is Cantonese style, and it's very good and very close to being authentic. It's clean inside and the service is good. The price is very reasonable and a lot of Asians eat there. That's always a good sign.

Mandarin house is one of my favorite Chinese restaurants in the area. They have your typical American-Chinese dishes like crab ragoons, sweet and sour chicken etc but they also have authentic dishes. The Sunday brunch (really really popular so make sure to arrive early around 11am) is especially filling with lots of selections from veggies to meats and dough or fried products. Very calming decor and a nice waiting staff :)

We went to eat there as a group today and had a nice sitting. We ordered variety of dishes to share and they were nice but pretty ordinary. Not a bad place to go for lunch or dinner.

A chance encounter with Mandarin House: caught in an unexpected downpour on our way out of yoga class and getting soaked to the skin was all the excuse we needed to treat ourselves to dinner as opposed to going back home and fixing it. We remembered that Mandarin House, which our hairstylist had told us about, was not too far so we decided to give it a shot. We were glad we did! Another soaking on the way from the parking lot into the eatery left us cold and craving spicy Chinese food. Surprisingly, the restaurant was quite crowded...at 8 pm in Carmel on a weeknight - we took this as a good sign. We were promptly greeted and shown to a secluded table to peruse the menu. We opted for crab rangoons for an appetizer. Now, these are not normally my favorite thing as I try to avoid deep-fried food of any kind. But, I must say they were delicious ;-) The dough was amply filled with the cream cheese mix that makes these bites delectable to many...more importantly, these rangoon were properly cooked to crisp perfection that did not leave behind a grease puddle. No sogginess in the entire bunch! For our entrees, we had kung pao shrimp and chicken with black bean sauce. Both came with a small bowl of hot & sour soup that was the perfect starter for two waterlogged, shivering diners. The concoction had the right proportions of hot and sour and was neither gummy-thick or watery-thin. Our entrees were piping hot on arrival, well cooked and sauced appropriately - not "swimming" in sauce as it were. One particular thing both hubby and I noticed right away was that the shrimp were not overcooked and really tasted like fresh, not frozen, shrimp. The service at MH was attentive and friendly and we will definitely return to try other menu items. When we left at 9pm, people were still coming in the door, which we found truly amazing :-)

So far Indy hasn't exactly wowed me with their Chinese cuisine and Mandarin House fits this description. The establishment is nice inside even upscale for most Chinese restaurants. The sweet and sour soup was disappointing. The crab meat ragoons were not very good and the sauces served with them are less than mediocre. The entrees were good. We had the Pork with Garlic sauce, which was delicious. The Savory and Spicy Chicken had phenomenal flavor and, if you don't mind not having a sauce, the perfect thing to order. Our waitress had very little personality but was great at telling us about the dishes and making recommendations. I won't go back until I've tried every other Chinese restaurant and given up hope of finding better.
