Handles is always amazing! You can't go wrong with any of their ice cream or frozen yogurts. There are many choices of flavors that's it's almost hard to decide what to get! I really like the Chocolate raspberry truffle! It is to die for, so rich and just the perfect amount of raspberry preserves. It does seem to melt a lot faster than the other kinds, so be prepared to eat it fast! I also really like their birthday cake which has frosting it in! It's super colorful too, which is fun! I have had many other flavors, but these 2 are my favorites. If it's not too busy you can sample a few, but if lines are long which they usually are on weekends I try to just hurry and get my order in quickly. They have a small seating area which I wish was bigger, but we usually end up with a bench or sit in our car. Everyone who works there is always super nice and helpful. When my in-laws come up from their tiny town in southern Indiana they always want to go get ice cream even in the middle of winter so good thing they are open year round! The banana splits are HUGE! I love you can get any 3 flavors of ice cream. You can get a 4 scoop sampler if you want to try more than one kind. Handles is a year round favorite!

Yum! I'm a big fan of ice cream that's kind of gummy in texture (not sure if that's the right word; "gummy" sounds kind of gross, but I mean it in a delicious way), and Handel's has it. This time, we tried the peanut parfait (the fudge was nice and warm!), the cotton candy (surprisingly good) and the maple walnut (my favorite of the three). I would get any of those again. What makes this location neat is that you order from outside through a window, then you can sit at one of their tables on the side of the building and eat.

This ice cream is delicious! Perfectly creamy and handmade! I got the Carmel Pretzel Crunch and I highly recommend it! Sometimes there can be a long line, but don't worry...it goes fast and SO worth the wait!

Handel's is the best place for ice cream! They have a huge menu of choices and it's fun to try all the different flavors. You can get a 4 ice cream sampler or even the banana split is pick your own flavors, but I like to go traditional with my banana splits, but you can get any kind of ice cream in it.

Best ice cream in Indy. Bar none. Get the flavor Chocoholic Chunk. End of discussion.

While living in Southern California, Handels was our go to spot for awesome ice cream. So I was super pumped to see there was one in Carmel and literally dragged the wifey out the door to go pick up some tasty ice cream, Our go to is the the 4 scoop samplers. I love the ability to get a variety of flavors to try and 4 scoops for $4.50 is always a bargain, especially for the size scoops you get. Now, all that being said, the one piece of negative/constructive criticism I have are the scoop sizes. At the Handels on the west coast (where every other portion is smaller and twice the $$$) the scoops are much bigger than the Carmel locations...cant figure out why? The prices are the same but I feel slightly skimped upon with the Carmel scoop sizes...Must be the fat boy in me! Good ice cream...killer pistachio!

Handel's has the best ice cream around. We usually go to the Fishers location, but we recently discovered this little gem right in our back yard. Places like this can usually be judged by the line of people waiting to get up to the ordering counter, and Handel's always has a line in the summer months. I've had several flavors, but I usually go back to the butter pecan (in a cone).
(4)
Kiki T.
Awesome place! KeyLime is amazing And everything else is Top Notch You really can't go wrong at Handels They really pile it on Extremely generous Good Service
(5)

Magic for your mouth! From day one several years ago I have loved Handel's!!!!! Only thing I miss is the Peppermint flurry that I used to get. I always head to Handels for my official Spring and Summer official kickoff. (Not that I stay away during the winter!)

Not great but def not bad. Its a smaller ice cream joint that you can't go into. You order through a window and u find seating at one of the 2 outdoor seating benches on the side of the building. Their menu was kind've smaller compared to some of the other ice cream places I've been to, but bigger than what I expected from the look of this place. I ordered the Key Lime Pie ice cream because I've rarely seen this flavor at ice cream shops and it was DELISH! Would def come here again for that alone.

Abigail M.
My favorite ice cream store around. Graham central station is to die for! Pretty good prices too

Oh what's better than a Pistachio ice cream from Handel's? Oh no what about the Banana cream pie ice cream, oh how about the German chocolate ... etc There are a lot of choices and a lot of good ice creams in this place, I love them all! And love their service too, they always have high school students mostly females, they're really nice with everyone. The cool thing about this place is they serve you from a window and they have all the flavors posted on the it, the only problem with that is when I go buy ice cream in the middle of a winter night ... you can imagine hahaha.

Very solid ice cream for a reasonable price. Old fashioned counter service makes it even more of a throwback experience.

Handels never disappoints in terms of selection, flavor and service! It is hands-down my favorite ice cream place. It's a challenge I accept to go at least 1 time a month to see what the new monthly flavors are. And if I don't want one, I fall back on chocoholic chunk. My absolute favorite is the German chocolate cake. It's like heaven in my mouth! Also nice teens working which I think is great because they are learning the value of hard work. If I could live in a bowl of their ice cream, I would!

We just moved to Carmel and my family can't get enough of Handel's. The ice cream is terrific and the scoops are huge!

This is one of those places where it is easy to get in a rut. Take the carmel cone crunch hurricane for example: my husband has ordered this for the last two years. It is quite possibly the most delicious item on the menu. And then I tried their seasonal key lime pie. Wow. Now double it up with banana cream pie and, well, you get the idea. Go, try it, and see if you get stuck on your most delicious go-to item. I dare ya.
(5)
Sharee M.
Best homemade ice cream I have had in a while. I tried the birthday cake which had lots of the blue frosting and sprinkles within it. It was very tasty. I also like the serving size of the one scoop in a cup. There was a lot of ice cream, more than I expected. My friends seem to enjoy their ice cream as well. I know that one of them got the pineapple ice cream that looked like it had real fruit on it. They had a nice crowd for a 50 degree Macrh day. I was going to go back after leaving my friends house and get another scoop, but I decided against it (should not have toi much ice in one day). But I definitely will be treating myself to this place every time I'm on the far north side.

I am an avid ice cream lover. I've been here a few times, trying different sundaes and flavors of ice cream, and I just don't get it. It's usually good, because it is HARD to make ice cream taste bad. But "the best ice cream ever"? I have been to several better places in the Indy area. There is always a line, and you have to stand outside and eat it, and even despite this I've been to better places with this style of eating (a couple in Bloomington in particular). Also, the low-fat, sugar free stuff, one of the things I've tried, is pretty terrible. Again, I've had lots of great light ice creams, so I was surprised by this. I think this might be a case of the placebo effect? Maybe I'm picking all the wrong things, even though they look good on the menu? I don't know, but I haven't figured this one out.
(2)
Linda M.
For the past 3 summers as I know from living in the area, Handel's has a Saturday sale (today only) for $1 single scoop ice cream with a sugar cone. I get praline pecan with sugar cone (although they ask if you prefer a cake cone). I have no experience with scoops of ice cream, but it looks like 3 scoops to me. Great deal! Definitely recommend you go for this special price or with a coupon. Lots of flavors of ice cream available including a few fat-free choices.
(5)
Bodie S.
I'm not a huge fan of ice cream; it tends to make me feel queasy and sick feeling simply because my body isn't used to the sugar and sweetness of the product, but I did enjoy my experience through Handel's. I had an ice cream sundae, and much to my surprise, I thoroughly enjoyed eating it (until my complaining afterwards). It was a vanilla sundae with more toppings than I could wrap my head around: nuts, cherries, crushed M&Ms and Oreos, strawberries, fudge, and, of course, whipped cream. I think that toppings might be my favorite part about eating ice cream, but I'm sure others can find better reasons. If you want to try some quality ice cream, I'd recommend swinging through Handel's.

Put on your coats b/c Handels is bringing in the COOOOOLD to a very hot freakin' summer!! I do not eat ice cream (unless I'm pregnant - which I'm not), but the last week or so, I have been craving some coldilicious goodness in my belly. Typically I go with my hubby, but I couldn't say no to the urge to stop when I drove by Handel's today on my way home from a spicy steak salad lunch. I got a hurricane....which is very similar to the blizzard at DQ, except it tasted sooooo good and creamy and milky fabulous. The price was fine at $3.80 with tax and the service was friendly, fast and pleasant. There are bagillions of ice cream combinations!! It is like a DNA party on a menu! 2,000,000 choices to create the perfect ice cream baby (I have babies on the brain - forgive me). In any case, for someone who doesn't get all up in arms about cold treats (I prefer everything burn-your-tongue hot), Handels is one of the best ice cream places I've ever been to.....YUUUUUM-O. It's a must go! :)

Wowza! There's nothing better than Handel's homemade hand-dipped ice cream! So many great flavors, but I always go back for the turtle sundae. Vanilla ice cream with hot fudge, caramel and giant pecans. I love their malts and shakes. The premium ice cream makes such a difference! Their Handel Pops (a big scoop of ice cream dipped in a chocolate coating with a popsicle stick for easy eating) are a great take-home item for future deliciousness. They're open all year and both the Carmel and Fishers locations are equally scrumptious. Limited parking in Fishers and very few places to sit and eat in both locations.

Erin L.
Um how can you give an ice cream place less than 5 stars? It's ICE CREAM people! Open 365 days a year, this walk up homemade ice cream shop hits the spot on any day. You can even get hand packed quarts or pints to go. Try the 4 scoop sampler if you don't know what flavor to try. They have a bout 93590 flavors to choose from. I love that they have more flavors beside just vanilla for the low fat yogurt. They also have about 10 flavors of sherbet. The variety here is amazing and you could probably come for 365 days and not eat the same thing. Just sayin.
(5)
Lindsey S.
Great place, great prices, and even BETTER ice cream! My two favorite flavors are the Caramel Dolce and Graham Central Station. You can't go wrong at Handel's!
(5)

Good things come to those who wait! Fantastic ice cream, waffle cones do not disappoint. Line is long and service is slow. Met some nice "Fisher-tens" in line so the wait was bearable. Highly recommend, but not if you're in a hurry.

I'm INSANE for Handel's ice cream! I love that Handel's flavors are jam-packed with mix-ins. They're also very generous on their servings. Last year, my husband was handed a sorta small single serving ... would've passed for a normal size at Baskin Robbins ... but he wasn't going to complain. When they brought out my cone, the server noticed my husband's cone and, completely without prompting on our part, asked for it back and added another scoop, mumbling about "trainees" not getting it right. So beware, one scoop is plenty! Three scoops would probably result in a pint of ice cream on your cone. (Not that there's anything wrong with that.) Love their "Spouse Like a House" (malted vanilla with chocolate-covered peanut butter-filled pretzels and a peanut butter ripple) and any cheesecake flavor. It's not on their menu, but they can make a killer chocolate milk shake with reese peanut butter sauce mixed in. Their fruit flavors are also worth mentioning, never before have I had such fresh-tasting strawberry or peach ice creams. Now I'm gonna have to get the crew together and go get me some Handel's!

I really like their ice cream & flavor options but the service is so unbearably slow every time we go there that I will not stop if there are more than 2 people in line...it is painful, we have actually left after standing there for so long with the line barely moving.

When we're within a few-mile radius of Handel's, it's just gotta happen...this ice cream is seriously delicious. Compared to other ice cream chains, Handel's is really good quality...it's also kind of expensive, but for the taste, it's worth it. They have a wide selection of flavors, and we've never had anything bad here. Great ice cream, but a little pricey. You can get $1 cone on Saturday - can't beat that deal anywhere!
(4)

Fun flavor combos & open year-round. It's a walk-up window though, so I'm not sure who stands out in the snow in winter to order ice cream! Also found out the small is 2.5 scoops, the medium is 3.5 scoops. (Sorry, I don't remember how many is in the large, but it's probably 4.5 scoops since it costs more than the 4 scoop sampler.)

Here's a bit of info you don't care about: I've been to the ORIGINAL Handel's Ice Cream stand in Youngstown, Ohio. In fact, I grew up eating Handel's ice cream, and was one of the nerdy nerds who was SO EXCITED when Handel's made it to the Indy area. Yes. My husband looked at me as if I were insane. But I ate this as a kid like Hoosiers ate RItter's .... a chocolate ice cream cone after Sunday School practically every weekend. If you've never been, check it out. They're open all year. You can WALK UP to the window and get ice cream in the middle of December if your little heart desires. And it will if you try it just once. Get a hand-packed pint or quart to take home so you don't have to brave the heat of summer of the freeze of winter. And if you think some of those other ice cream shops have a lot of flavors, check out Handel's list. You will find way too many options to pick and lick just one.

My favorite Ice Cream Joint in All of Indianapolis that I had to capitalize it. I've tried several of their numerous unique and rich flavors and have settled on Chocoholic Chunk. But then again what do you expect from a chocoholic? It is a rich, creamy and smooth concoction of fudge ice cream, fudge ribbon, and chocolate flakes... and it is guaranteed to put me into an intoxicated coma. Lucky for me that there are darker areas of the parking lot for sobering up before the long drive back to civilization. However, this is one DUI that I will continue to risk.

Speaking as an ice cream connoisseur: OH YEAH!!! TIN LIZZY IS MY FAVORITE!!! Chocolate malt with caramel... Graham central station... Orange and red raspberry sherbet... I'm in HEAVEN!!! UPDATE: I have to add one thing... Spouse Like a House!!!

Beats the hell out of overrated Cold Stone. I was quite surprised at the lack of ice cream and soda places when moving to Carmel a year ago, however, I recently found out about Handel's. Handel's has a large assortment of hand-dipped ice cream at hyper-inflated prices (yet much more of a deal than previously mentioned Cold Stone and also nearby Oberweis). I've tried the "graham central station," and it's delicious. Get the smallest portion waffle cone and you'll be plenty satisfied.

Handles is always amazing! You can't go wrong with any of their ice cream or frozen yogurts. There are many choices of flavors that's it's almost hard to decide what to get!
