Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Had a terrible experience last Thursday. No host ever showed up to seat us so we went into the bar and seated ourselves. Mistake. Got a waiter who ignored us. Wife ordered a spinach quesadilla that ended up being just a tortilla folded over some cold, undrained freezer spinach - no evidence of cheese. I ordered a combo that included a "chile relleno". The "chile relleno" included only a little piece of chile about one inch square-and the stuff the chile chunk was sitting on tasted very much like it was mixed with Velveeta. Waiter admitted this didn't fit his definition of a chile relleno but said "I have told them this makes people mad but this is how they do it." Won't be going back.

This is probably my favorite El Rodeo location. The restaurant is nice and brightly decorated. I am really pleased that they re-opened. The food is good and reasonably priced and the service is always friendly. I could really live without the hostess spraying perfume in the entry way. It gives me a headache and I want to smell the yummy smelling Mexican food. I will also have to agree with poster Clay W. that the Cozumel salad really good.

This is our favorite local place. Amazing people, newly rebuilt. Food is alway fresh and good. Best margarita now with top shelf 3 Amigos tequila - fantastic!

I want to cry!! I'm so happy you are open again! this has been a fast dinner staple out for me and my family since it opened. The food is always great, camerones ala diabla, pollo toluca, chori queso, pollo asada, carne asada, steak & cheese burrito's etc etc etc. Always great service from the staff, who usually remember our drinks. In my opinion the probably have the best Ultimate El Rodeo Margarita on the Rocks anywhere. My god are they good and they come in 16oz, 24oz and a 47oz. Needless to say I love the 47oz. I asked Raphael one time, why the margaritas were so much better than most other places and he took me in the kitchen and he showed me a large glass refrigerator that was full of gallon jugs and in those gallon jugs sat all the top shelf ingredients with fresh squeezed lime and homemade simple syrup. he told me those jugs will sit there for at least 3 to 5 days so all the flavors get to meld together before they serve it. It makes sense kinda like how a good lasagna is a great lasagna the next day. It's definitely more americanized Mexican but its good and good all the time. They always lacked a good bar area but now with the demise of Cork & Cracker and the Westons dry cleaners moving over a full unit, they now have a more than ample bar to accommodate some more of the late nighters. It was a sad day to watch you burn but it was a real happy day to see what the ashes turned into. Not to mention now at 6'3" and 260 pounds I can fit through those little walkways because now they are much bigger.

Decided to try this place out during Taco Tuesday, as it was near my work. We were promptly seated, and almost immediately had tortilla chips and salsa set before us, and our drink orders taken within the next few minutes. I was there with a co-worker, who said he eats there all the time. For me, I went with the shrimp tacos (corn tortillas) as my first taste of their food. Yeah, these were pretty dang tasty! The tacos came out HOT. I mean, almost burned my fingertips hot. I talked business and ate tasty chips and salsa until they cooled down, and then dove in. I THINK there might have been a tail attached to one, but I kiiiinda ignored it. The tacos were great, the beans and rice were servicable, and the service was friendly and attentive. I will definitely be back on future Taco Tuesdays!

I will NEVER come to this location again. The food was great as was our server. I met my husband there with my 2 year old and 5 month old baby. My husband had to get back to work so I agreed to stay and pay the bill. I was standing at the front with both of my kids waiting for someone so I could pay. After a few minutes a server saw me and started walking up. At the same time a family walked in. Rather than helping me he sat the family. I waited another few minutes for him to come back and check me out He asked me how everything was and I said I was disappointed that he would let me stand there with 2 small children while he sat the party that had walked in long after I had been standing there waiting. He said sorry sweetie.

Delicious! One of the best margaritas that I've had, delicious queso dip and salsa, and a tasty chicken enchilada with rice and beans. This is my new favorite American-styled Mexican restaurant! Definitely not super authentic - but definitely super tasty. I will be back!

VIVA LA MEXICO! From the moment I walked in, was greeted by the MANAGER with his outgoing latin charm. I was made to feel I was in little mexico, from waitresses calling me amigo to the authentic salsa. The salsa and chips are complimentary, and it's got just enough zing not too hot. Everything from the food to the service was A++, it was hard to give 5 stars because I generally save those for place I know are THE BEST but I'm still out to find the best mexican in Indy but for now this is my top choice until later review.

More like 3.5- consistently good salsa and queso. I like the #1 combo platter. My wife tried the fajitas and was disappointed with the Quality of the chicken. However I've always liked the dinners that I've selected
(3)Amber P.
Enough said?! This is one of the best margaritas I've had. It's not swimming in sweet and sour. Usually margaritas are far too sweet for my taste. This one is perfection. Plus my (delicious) food came out in what must have been about 5 minutes. Trifecta. Service, food and drinks! All were incredible.

Our Friday night spot. The Ultimate margarita on the rocks is the way to start. One of the best in the vicinity. Salsa and queso is homemade and spicy. The staff are super friendly and stop by to say hello and make you feel welcome. The pork is juicy and tastes like pork! Fajitas are yummy and come with plenty of condiments - no skimping like some places. And the decor changes with the season. The kids love it.

However you feel about Mexican food in general is how you'll feel about El Rodeo. They haven't screwed anything up, but they haven't done anything so successfully that they've stood out either. They do give you complimentary chips and salsa with an option to upgrade to queso or guac when you sit down. I stuck with the salsa which was good, as were the chips. Next time I go I think I will spring for the guac upgrade though.

Another great meal at El Rodeo. Such friendly people there! We each had 3 carne asada corn tacos with pico de gallo. They don't come with cheese or lettuce so we ordered those on the tacos. We weren't charged extra for them. The tacos also come with sides of refried beans and rice. All for $8.99, a good deal. Oh and the margheritas are nice and strong.

Great service. Very fast and attentive. The good is the best thing that has ever happened to me every time. Thank you Mexico

Stopped for lunch with my wife and her parents. Good prices, food, and super fast service. Will be my go to Mexican restaurant.

No es auténtico! We had just moved to Carmel and decided to have some Mexican food to ease our homesickness. Worst decision ever!! I'm Central American, my fiancé is Mexican and our friends that came with us were chefs. The general consensus was it is a bad attempt at Mexican food. For real Mexican flavors try cabos on 161 and springmill or hacienda on meridian.

I love going to El Rodeo. I love it every time I go. Jennifer is an amazing waitress, and ahe always gets my order. The food was great. And I love the interior. Feative and bright. I reccomend

Came here with family as I was visiting last week. we had two toddlers, my Mom and Brother and I. We all ordered different food. My Mom ordered One Cheese Quesadilla and one Spinach Qesadilla. She didn't like the cheese - too plain and she was still hungry. I ordered the Chicken Enchiladas Verde. It had one Enchilada, no verde salsa, no cheese and they gave me a choice of rice or beans Checken was tender and juicy but felt miss led. I thought menu said both. My Brother ordered a Combination. Tacos and Burrito. This is place says authentic Mexican but it more like an Americanized version, TexMex. I might as well go to Qdoba.....According to my Brother, this place is hit or miss. I think they kind of missed.

I arrived and was seated promptly with my date. That was the last time I was acknowledged by the staff. No water, no chips and salsa, no service. After a good 10 - 15min s we got up and left. The girl at the door was the only one that saw that we had a problem and tried to make it up to us as we left but it was to little to late.

I cannot believe I have never Yelped this place. It is seriously my FAVORIT-O Mexican restaurant in Indy....it was so sad when it burnt to the ground. But it is BACK and better than ever! I cannot believe how beautiful, fun and updated it is. It's twice the size and the bar is incredible! I was so blown away at my visit this week. I took my Beach Bum team in for lunch and we all had wonderful authentic fresh meals that came out faster than ever. The cheese dip is awesome, the fajita chicken salad is my favorite with juuuuuui-say chunks of chicken and not too greasy. I love the large glasses that they refill endlessly and the staff is always great. Rafael the owner is so honest and helpful, friendly and excited about his business. I absolutely adore him and his new place! If you are in the area, you cannot miss this Mexican restaurant!
(5)Jeff K.
The best Margaritas in town and be careful if you have two!! Our go to place, and great for the kids. There are too many favorites to list especially all the fajitas, fish tacos, Cozumel salad, carnitas and more. The chips and salsa are top notch as well. Great service too! Muy bueno!
(5)Lillia L.
I'm picky about my Mexican food... this place has it. The chimi was full of the most flavorful, moist, shredded beef, rolled in a flour tortilla and fried just enough to be crisp but not greasy. It is topped with a very tasty (freshly made, I suspect) red sauce. It was served with tasty refried beans, salad and guacamole. The service was speedy, friendly, and the meal including a drink was less than $10 for dinner. I definitely recommend this place and will go again.
(4)Tolete M.
This place is all about detail and attention. Also a great food. The place smell and look very clean, even the bathrooms you can see that they take care of cleaning frequently. The food is great and the attention from Rafael, Jennifer and the rest of the team is superb..I travel for business and every time in town I always visit this restaurant. This is what service and attention in a restaurant means.

We have been going to El Rodeo for years and I love it. I haven't been there for a while, but I used to go there at least once a week with my friends. They have the best queso in town and also the chicken nachos have this delicious large portion of shredded checken drenched in the queso with peppers and onions. It is so good that sometimes I just get it without the chips to avoid all the carbs and they are happy to comply. We have also had the quesadillas and burritos and love them. The margaritas are pretty standard, made with sweet and sour, and too sweet. I prefer fresh ones, but usually just don't get them. The food comes out so fast and prepared to order, that you can't figure out how the kitchen can always be so fast and get it right. They are always very friendly too. It used to be really awful inside with terrible sponge painting, but they did a remodel after a big fire and it is really nice now. The prices are great too.

If you're from a border state, or are a real New Yorker and know where to go for Mexican, you're probably not going to want to try Mexican food in Indianapolis. But, if you really must have it, El Rodeo is certainly a serviceable restaurant for you. I've been finding that when you have to order in Spanish, the quality goes up a bit. And that was definitely the case with this restaurant. Was it the best Mexican I've ever had? No. For people in the area that have never tried real Mexican food, is it going to be? Probably.
(3)Randy R.
Its a super good must try Mexican place.
(5)Jarrod R.
What can I say? El Rodeo has everything that you are looking for in a restaurant. Excellent service, friendly people and the food - delicious! We have been visiting this location for years, but haven't been for a while, so it needed another look. I would have to recommend the chorizo tacos. They had just the right amount of "kick" and the meal was a great value, too. We had the pleasure of eating outside, which, with the music and cuisine, made us feel like we were on vacation! Keep up the great work!

I ordered the Chimichanga and told him no sauces ...but it came with red sauce that I didn't think tasted good...so I asked for it differently and our server was very compliant. And since I really don't like veggies in my chimichangas...he suggested ground beef. Good idea!!! It was good! My partner had an enchilada and a burrito. She has finally has decided she likes flour tortillas . So it will be burritos from now on! Our server was very patient with me. And the salsa was awesome! !! I had a medium Margarita ---DELICIOUS!!! And my partner had several Pacificos and they ran out ...sadness...she had to switch to Dos XX... Victor our server was very nice to me...I appreciate that so much

It was alright. We have had better and worse, but we would go back sometimes. I would give it 3.5 stars I ordered the chicken chilaquiles which came out looking sooooooo good. It came either rice and beans, and were chips covered in a ranchero sauce, shredded chicken, raw onion, raw green pepper, diced tomato, and a little cheese. A lot of food and even after eating a lot and what seemed like forever, I had hardly made a dent. It was pretty good, but the chicken definitely needed seasoning, it tasted watery-like out of a can? He got the #15: burrito and taco with sides of rice and beans. He really enjoyed it, but said the sauce on the burrito tasted more like a pasta sauce and not a traditional Mexican red sauce. Also he ordered all chicken, but the taco came out with beef. The waiter never came back to our table, which meant he could t get it fixed, so he was unable to eat the taco. It was alright, good atmosphere, not great service, and decent food.

Have been going to the Carmel El Rodeo for the last 5 years. And it's been consistently great. I have my favorite dishes that I order over and over I can think of just one time, out of dozens when I felt like my meal was not up to snuff. It's great to go to a place where you can count on getting exactly what you expect in terms of quality and quantity. Also, the food comes out FAST! Which is great when you're visiting with a couple of squirrely, hungry, young kids. All the servers are super friendly and attentive - the chips and salsa come out before you even have a chance to open your menu. Favorites off the menu: Great guacamole and I love their shrimp tacos and the seafood burrito.
(5)Scott D.
I wish I could give 2.5 stars. El Rodeo is a nice enough restaurant. Good service, clean and they serve you quickly but if you are looking for "authentic Mexican food" this is not the place for you. Most won't understand what I mean by "authentic Mexican food" but if you have lived out in California, Arizona or New Mexico you will know exactly what I mean. The salsa was bland and the meat inside of my taco and enchiladas was flavorless. The refried beans were very good though. This place was about as authentic as On the Border and if you like on the border you will love this place.

We have been going here for years now! I have known Rafael since I was in High School. He runs a clean, efficient facility. The service is top notch. The queso is the best around. The margaritas are strong and the beer is COLD! I like pretty much everything here. For salads, I like the Cozumel Salad. It has shrimp, avacado, onions, tomatoes, and lettuce. No dressing; you don't need it. The Pollo Toluca is another favorite with chicken and chorizo with queso on top and a side of rice and beans. They are great with kids and do a great little gift for kids birthdays! You will love this place! They have A LOT of regulars! Lunch prices are cheaper than dinner. The cost can get up there at dinner; but you get what you pay for... in a good way!
