The egg custard is to die for!

This place is your standard local frozen custard place. They've got a variety of flavors, that you can't find a lot of places including having marshmallow fluff as an add in which is pretty cool. I went with the traditional turtle sundae, and it had just the right ratio of toppings to ice cream. That ratio can make or break any sundae... but they've definitely perfected it!

Sweet treats, great seating, lovely old couple behind the counter, and sweet treats to boot! How can you go wrong? After waiting at Bubs burger for ice cream we took off down the street to much less busy and greater selection at Autie's The couple behind the counter were so polite and fun to chat with most definitely a highlight of our visit.

Stopped by here on a whim with wife and kids. This place just smelled AMAZING! Reminds me of the 5th grade Straight A club party that I went to back in the day. Met Auntie Em herself. And if her cupcakes are anything like her disposition, then we're in for a treat!

I'm not one to leave reviews, but after moving away from this gem, and trying cupcakes from a "Food Network-Cupcake Wars" WINNER, these cupcakes are 10 times better, and I felt a review was a must!! Especially after looking at the current reviews. This place does not get enough credit or attention! I had several cupcakes and a couple custard shakes. The cupcakes were consistently fantastic, and the shakes were also. This place deserves to be on the Food Network for their cupcakes alone!!

I stopped here with some friends and we all shared a few red velvet cupcakes. Though the presentation was nice they tasted like something made from a box of mix. Won't go back.

Really nice little shop that has an old style soda fountain feel. However, I have been fairly disappointed with the quality of the custard that I've had. It's definitely too expensive compared to the product you receive. I would rather spend less for a better product at Culver's than go to Auntie Em's.

Good cupcakes. Great ice cream. I stop in for a milkshake regularly and the quality is always consistent. Check it out (:

I'd wanted real lemon custard for a while, and this place did not disappoint. Best I've had in a long time. This isn't exactly the same as ice cream, so it is a bit difficult to compare. The location right in the arts district and near Monon trail, and the quaint ambience of an old soda fountain add that little bit extra that made it worth a positive review. I wouldn't make a special trip, but it is a great place to stop and take a break if in the area, especially tired and hungry kids.

The staff is very friendly and there is a good flavor variety of ice cream. The ice cream itself has a very pure texture and the flavors are honest. Plus the location is great, situated right on Main St in Carmel.

Neat little custard shop in an arts district area. I got a marshmallow shake....I love those and do not see them often...It was delicious.

Made a second visit to Auntie Em's on our way through town back home to Illinois. The first time I visited Auntie Em's last year, I wasn't that impressed with the cupcake I had. This time, however, I liked both cupcakes we tried. My husband had the turtle cupcake, which was a moist chocolate cupcake with a caramel bottom and a creamy chocolate buttercream frosting garnished with nuts and chocolate & caramel drizzling on top. Very tasty! I ordered the Boston Cream cupcake, which was a moist and light angel food cupcake with a vanilla custard center and a smooth and creamy chocolate buttercream frosting garnished with a dollop of custard on top. My complaint last year was that the frosting was gritty and way too sugary. That was not the case today...the chocolate frostings were really good. I'm glad I gave this little shop another try. They also have cake pops, frozen custards, sundaes, etc. The cupcakes were a hit.

Came here for a cupcake, but changed my mind when I saw that they had root beer floats! It was a good treat to enjoy on a hot evening, especially while sitting outside the shop in their seating around the corner in the shade.

Auntie Em's 'Sloppy Joes' street sign caught our eye as we were browsing through the Arts and Design District. My husband LOVES sloppy joes. It was a wonderful sandwich and reasonably priced at $3.50. I was disappointed in the cupcakes we purchased, hence the 2 star review. We were there at about 3pm on a Friday afternoon and most of the cupcakes were gone. We purchased 2 chocolate cupcakes. I think they tasted stale. Unless the frozen custard is outstanding, I would not recommend Auntie Em's

We came here today for the second time to grab a quick dessert after dinner, and both times we've had great service and great cupcakes. This is a great little shop downtown with a great atmosphere that fits perfectly in the Arts District. I recommend the salted caramel cupcake! Thanks!

Ya can't go wrong with a tasty frozen treat. I especially want to acknowledge this shop, because of the service. I wanted a malt shake, but wanted it made with Whoppers malted milk balls. Although, they don't use Whoppers to make their malts, it was actually made for me. I greatly appreciated that, as my malt shake was delicious. Thank you Auntie Em's. You deserve five stars for that.

fresh, tasty custard and so much more. We got a few cones and a slushy on a beautiful sunny Sunday. Great service. Fantastic desserts. We will absolutely be back. so many other choices too. cupcakes, cake pops, and milk shakes and even some food!

Cool little place in the Arts district to stop after a nice dinner. Wife and I talked about sundaes but all we really wanted were shakes to go and they didn't disappoint. We will stop back again next time we are in the area for something more substantial.

What a cute little stop in beautiful downtown Carmel. I an new to the area and in love it! Love location and products of Auntie Em's! They do cake pops well, even though I can only sweetly tolerate half a cake pop. We have been to the shop several times. The purpose of this website is to share your experience for other potential customers AND for businesses to receive applause or an opportunity to learn what they need to adjust. Here is a chance to learn. Customer service is off. We came in...two adults and two children. It was a weekday, about 4 other customers. We ordered a lemon shake up. Now, being from the midwest and attending about every fair possible, we know what a lemon shake up should be...what it is. We all agreed it was horrible while sitting at the table. Not sweet at all, but beyond that, had a strange flavor to it. Not even able to choke down. My husband went to counter to see if he could get something else. He told the staff, a young girl, and older gentleman, who might have been the owner. Long story short....both employees were aware and they acted as though our opinion was wrong. It tasted very bad and we were wrong for thinking so. He asked for a milk shake...and still charged him. No apology, no offer to correct. And we had to pay to replace it. Another concern, where is the recycling bin for ALL THAT PLASTIC? That is way more upsetting....it is hard to support businesses who do not participate in the beauty and protection of our environment. There could be something done to make the space more comfortable and inviting. I am NOT a designer just my opinion! Other than that....we will continue to go there for a sweet snack...we support all the wonderful businesses downtown and grateful to have such a great community.

With healthy intentions in mind myself and my wife went for a stroll around Carmel. However rain pushed us into Auntie Em's shop of various sweets. Cupcake, hot cocoa, and root beer float later we left the shop. Deserts, service, and decor of the place deserve 5 stars. Great place to meet with few friends.

It was a clean, fun environment. The staff was not very professional, or helpful. They had a list of specialty custards that I inquired about, & after choosing one (snickerdoodle) they came back & said they were out. No biggie, I'll try another flavor. Once served, it had chunks of ice in it like it was freezer burned & had very little flavor. Not what I'm looking for in a $5 medium cone. Our friends enjoyed their sundae & cupcake, respectfully. Maybe I just got a bad wrap. With plenty of tried & true places around Indy for treats, I won't be too quick to try again.

Auntie Em's has the feel of a mom and pop establishment though I cannot testify that it is one. I have always been intrigued by the shop, but have been apprehensive because they place always looks dead. Auntie Em's custard is really thick and satisfying, though they do have only a limited number of flavors, but my thought is that fewer choices are better and usually means better quality food. As I said earlier, the place was completely dead, but I'm not really sure why. The ice cream was good enough and I'm thinking customer traffic will pick up later on in the season. I do have to say that the service was a little slow, but I can't complain too much because they were nice enough and they sold quality ice cream at a reasonable price.

Amazing thick custards. Their blizzard version with Oreo is delish! This place has free wifi, awesome cupcakes and oh so fattening but delicious ice cream...what more can I ask for?!

My favorite place for dessert. Their custard is delicious, and my kids also love the cupcakes and slushies. Black raspberry is my fave. Love supporting local small business owners. Only wish is that they had longer summer hours.
