High Cholesterol at Whataburger

Calorie intake is the main concern for people with high cholesterol while dining at a fast-food restaurant like Whataburger. Well, you can always try the Lighter & Smaller options from the menu to cut down your fat intake. Opting for grilled sandwich or burgers are preferred compared to double meat or triple meat cheesy burgers which contain high cholesterol.

Foods to Avoid at Whataburger for High Cholesterol

Cut down on your meat intake to control your high cholesterol. You must skip Double Meat Whataburger and Triple Meat Whataburger at all costs. You should also avoid Avocado Bacon Burger and Monterey Melt as both these burgers contain a high amount of fat. Sweat & Spicy Bacon Burger will add extra 1080 calories in your diet so skip that as well. Whatacatch Dinner may sound tempting but the famous fish sandwich is also full of calories and unhealthy fat. Lastly, avoid French Fries and Onion Rings at Whataburger if you are already ordering a burger or any other heavy meal.

I've been twice this month, and think it's okay. Sat at the bar both times. Service was good, though it wasn't busy. I like the queso, and their chips are fresh and light. I find their food to be just okay based on value, taste and price. However, the margaritas are top notch and I would (and do) go for those alone. On Tuesdays, top shelf hand shaken margaritas are $5 (basically half price) and well worth it.

We recently went to Abuelo's after not having been for a few years. We were very impressed with the menu selections and the food was delicious. Definitely liked the several salsas brought to us. Keep up the good work!

Went here for a coworker lunch outing - I can make better Mexican food at home than what I was served. The waitress messed up my order and thought I only ordered a plate of guacamole (problem #1). So I had to wait much longer than my colleagues to get my mediocre food. The guacamole was extremely salty and did not have any flavor. It did not taste fresh nor did it have any onion or jalapeno. This place was overpriced, even at lunch. Not worth it in my opinion.

When a "Mexican" restaurant advertises it's pot roast special outside, it's probably a good sign that you're not going to get good Mexican food. Or even good gringo food. Now, the restaurant itself is clean and well laid out. I would argue that it might even be trendy if it weren't a generic chain restaurant. Unlike most Mexican chains, it's not over done with cheesey decorations that you would normally find being peddled at a bazaar near a tourist attraction like Tenochitlan. The food though, is amazingly blah. I can say they at least got the tortilla right, but it's kind of hard to mess that up. I had ordered the Grande Burrito with chicken, and the meat was more reminiscent of a chicken noodle soup. The beans tasted like they came out of a can, and there was little else in the burrito. The only saving grace was the habanero sauce that the waiter had brought me. That brings me to the saving grace of the restaurant. The service was fantastic. My server had been very attentive without being obtrusive. His manner was very polite, and despite me making a lot of requests, sometimes sending him to get something right after returning to me, he remained professional and courteous. If you can go there and get better food, I say do it. Or maybe the pot roast is worth the trip, I don't know.

Chain Mexican at its worst. Everything on the menu is no different than your typical Mexican fare, but with your local Friday's touch (and it's not a good touch). On top of that, it was absolutely dead. Guess Mexican isn't popular during football, even with the bar and TVs. 2 stars for the interior decor (which was a little much, but at least it was nice) and decent tequila bar. Bonus points for the service, which was casual, but friendly. Come here for the bar, not the food.

Love the drink specials and the fajitas are yum! We always sit in the bar and have the same great server- Matt I believe?. Chain dining, but still a fav.

My wife and I went here for my birthday. I've been to the one at Trader's Point for business lunches and have enjoyed it each time. Today didn't disappoint either. The food was high quality and made to order. The service was very pleasant. They do have those kiosk devices on the tables now, much like Chili's has had for awhile for convenience. I loved the food, as did my wife, and would leave five stars, but the meal was rather expensive. ($50 total before tip). The portion sizes were great, but the margarita we had was a bit small for the $10 that they were charging for the grande size. (The grande was probably 16oz.). If you have the money to spend for a nice date, or you're out with a friend, I'd recommend going here as the food is delicious.

Stopped in on Monday night, April 20. A previous reviewer hit the nail on the head when they said, "Abuelos is an expensive, mediocre Mexican restaurant." We are new to the area and live a few minutes away, and the menu is huge and somewhat interesting compared to the standard mom and pop hole in the wall Mexican places in every strip mall, so I wanted to give Abuelos a try. We both ordered from the assorted menu of enchiladas. I had 3 enchiladas, each with a different meat and different sauces, and all 3 were average to disappointing. My wife's experience with her 2 enchilada meal was similar. The place lacked ambiance, but generally was nice and clean, and relatively busy for a Monday evening. The service was absolutely wonderful, but is completely overshadowed by the lack of everything else. Unfortunately good service alone doesn't warrant a return trip to an otherwise mediocre restaurant with disappointing food. Even if the food were a bit better than it is at Abuelos, for strip mall Mexican at a better price, and for better food, we'd rather visit La Hacienda in Carmel rather than putting money in the pocket of this chain...

Excellent food that is served hot! A lot of restaurants bring food that is warmish, but ours was very hot and delicious. I had stuffed chicken medallions. Awesome. I like that they serve a variety of real salsas. Would love to have tried dessert, but no room at the inn!

Abuelo's is an expensive, mediocre Mexican restaurant. The food is nothing special, something that you can get at any Mexican restaurant in any suburb in America. With an entree coming in at $12-15, I would just find a South of the Border and pay less for the same quality. Very disappointing. Disappointing food aside... the restaurant is run on tablets. Which removes the need to have pesky interactions with the waitstaff. Don't feel like talking? You can play games on the tablet! Don't want to bother a waiter to order a drink or dessert? Do it on the tablet! You also HAVE to pay your bill through it, so even if you hand the waiter your card, they will just do it on your tablet. When you're not using it, it just cycles bright ads the entire time. Very disruptive and does not make for an enjoyable dining experience. I will not return. It is not worth it for a mediocre meal with a disruptive tablet forcing me to interact with it over a human.

Been here a couple times. Food is extremely good for a Mexican restaurant in America. Servers and staff have always been extremely polite and friendly and restaurant is always clean. They have a great kid's menu for the little ones. I do find the food a little on the pricier side for Mexican restaurant, but overall wonderful. We will continue to dine here.

Unlike many other Mexican restaurants in the area, Abuelo's has a more stylish hacienda-type feel. The contemporary Spanish music playing softly in the background adds to the overall atmosphere. The servers are all friendly & refills were plentiful. The food comes out hot on very warm/hot plates. A good atmosphere only goes so far though... The food is wonderful! You are served light, crispy tortilla chips with three different salsas: regular, spicy & a sweet green salsa made with tomatillos, pineapple, coconut water & cilantro...tasty & a nice change of pace from traditional salsa verde. For appetizers we've tried the Jalapeno Cheese Fritters & the Spinach Stuffed Mushrooms...both were fabulous. The fritters were crunchy w/the cheese melted just right. The mushrooms were served with a delicious spinach/cheese filing. The cheese sauce leftover was a nice extra queso for dipping the tortilla chips. Choosing an entree is difficult with so many good choices. This outing I got the Stuffed Chicken Medallions (stuffed w/ Poblano peppers, chorizo & cheese...lightly fried). My husband got the Durango (spicy shredded beef tortilla with chile con queso topping + guacamole) & my son had the Nogales (enchiladas: one w/ chicken & sour cream sauce, the other had shredded beef w/ a ranchera sauce). Several desserts to choose from as well. The Dulce de Leche cheesecake was phenomenal!

We finally made it to Abuelo's and it was a disappointment tonight. Our server was unable to keep are drinks full, the salsa's they serve with the chips were not impressive, the cheese dip is more like velveeta (maybe is velvet), the shrimp tacos....terrible......my husband and Dad got the fajitas and the steak was tough... overall it was not at all impressive.

Abuelo's is, in my opinion, at the top of the food chain in terms of Mexican offerings in the Carmel area. It seems like the entire state of Indiana was inundated with Mexican restaurants about 10 years ago, and a lot of them are carbon copies of one another. Authenticity isn't really enough anymore - many of them feature authentic Mexican food (I lived in Mexico in the 80's). Abuelo's isn't terribly authentic Mexican, but it's very fresh and nicely presented. I had steak fajitas (again), and I rank this particular dish number 2 on my all time list, second only to a restaurant called Pipi's in Puerto Vallarta. The beef was tender and juicy, and cooked medium (some pink). I had flour tortillas this time, and they were also very fresh. Another nice extra is the building itself, located next to Lowes. It's a very interesting design inside, which adds to the overall experience. I'm not sure how their prices compare to the competition - I was so starved tonight, I probably would have paid double whatever my bill came to.

We made a reservation at 6:30PM but we waited for while. The decor, the staff, and customers were promising. I didn't know it was a chain. Most always, the long menu was a bad sign and it confirmed clearly tonight Knowing the portion is mostly generous outside the city so my hubby and I decided to share Los Mejores De La Casa. It came with bacon-wrapped beef tenderloin medallions (2) and a large shrimp wrapped in bacon (2). The picture in the menu looked very attractive but overcooked beef, even we asked for medium rare, was very dry with a texture of liver. It was clearly frozen and defrosted, not once but many. Shrimp had a fowl taste in my mouth but the bacon disguised it well, scary. The server and the manager showed up immediately to assist the situation. My hubby and I decided to try one of our group's favorite, Enchiladas De Cozumel. yelp.com/biz_photos/abue… It was a drenched with cheese and cream. It's a good trick to hide anything not fresh and it worked successfully. A highlight of this dinner was a light-airy chips and the three different salsa that came before our dinner. My favorite was the green one, Granny Smith apple with jalapeno. It was fresh and light with sweetness, sourness, and spicy.

We had not been here in several years and decided to give it another try. We went here on a week day two times within a few weeks. Both times we were seated in the bar area and virtually all tables were dirty. We sat through the entire dinner without anyone cleaning the tables. Someone cleaned the plates from the bar and cleaned part of the table next to us, but they never came back to finish. Our food that was just ok the first time was really awful this past week: the salmon was undercooked and not hot enough. My husband's food included dry mushy poblano peppers and was tasteless. We will not be back. It is clear the employees who work there do not care, and management doesn't either to leave the tables so dirty. It makes us wonder what the kitchen looked like and whether or not it is clean.

Too expensive and unimpressive. Kicking myself because I could have had a meal twice as good at Pancho's in Castleton for a lot less. Had to sit at a four-top with a chair at the end or wait 45 minutes for a table, food was salty and generic, and way too expensive for what we got. Same stuff would have been better at La Hacienda even, and the five of us would have walked out for $70 instead of $95.

I considered trying this restaurant years ago but did not see anything I was wanting to pay for. However, because of a birthday celebration, it was actually someplace I would consider going back to eat. The chips were light and one of the three salsas had pineapple. Awesome. I ordered the chicken zucchini -- delicious but maybe it was butter that I prefer omitted. Also, we tried and liked the bite-size jalapeno cheese fritters (look for a coupon in The Clipper magazine in your mail). For the free birthday dessert, we had chocolate cake and ice cream -- great too.

  • Julie W.

Our server was new, but he was probably the best part of our dinner - very attentive and quick. The chips and salsa were nothing to write home about - very blah. Entrees were OK, but again, nothing special. There are many other Mexican restaurants in the area that offer a much better - and more authentic - meal.

Nice place.... great atmosphere and service. I had the Tilapia Veracruz -- you know, the healthy option (yes, being middle aged, I'm on one of those kicks for the umpteenth time). Two grilled fillets accompanied by steamed vegetables and rice... spicy, tasty, and surprisingly filling. Great food, atmosphere, and service... highly recommended.

I've been here quite a few times. Never had a bad experience. The food is always great, the prices aren't bad, and the atmosphere is really nice for a Mexican restaurant. Cons, aka why not a 5 star? Just not a tremendous value. Sorry to be so picky. 4.5 stars is what it deserves (help me out here Yelp). But, I will add that the desserts are amazing. The dulce con leche cheesecake is heavenly and the Mexican wedding cake is too.

I really don't understand how this place is still around. I came a few years ago and didn't really plan to return but I did. Not bad but just not worth it. This is not an upscale El Camino/Rodeo etc., it's just bland texmex on nice dishes. I swear the queso is cheese whiz and salsa.

No more service here ... They have converted to self-serve iPad tablets with horrible results. Feels like the worst kind of airport experience. Angry diners at every single table.

This place has such tasty salsa and the chips are always warm with a perfect crunch. I compare this restaurant to ones I've been to in Louisiana and Texas. They use all types of cheese, which is nice. I grow weary with the plain white queso that is common in Illinois Mexican restaurants. The enchiladas are so flavorful and when I go back to kid mode, their cheese enchiladas always hit the spot. I really like their painted murals, they are a great conversation piece. Staff is always kind and attentive. I love this place.

To start, I've eaten at Abuelo's several times. To be honest, I've never had a bad experience with food or service. Some may say the menu is a bit pricey, but I know they produce a lot of the product in house(coming from coworkers that have worked there in the past) and I'd say the prices are fair. To begin your meal, you are given chips with three different salsas when your drinks arrive. One sweet(and green), one mild, and one spicy. Can't say I'm a fan of the mild salsa, but the other two are great! You also have the option to add queso, but it will cost you extra. Heads up though, the queso is clearly made with a Velveeta product. Personally I like Velveeta, and don't blame them for using it because it makes the best cheese sauces texture wise. One thing I've ordered several times is the Pasta La Paz. Pasta tossed in a roasted tomato cream sauce, served with shrimp, chicken, and assorted vegetables. It's one of my favorite things to order for lunch, or dinner. You will only find it on the lunch menu but if you ask nicely they'll make it for you whenever. I've also tried "The Monterrey" which is 4 different enchiladas, a crunchy taco, and a relleno. For those of you not familiar with rellenos, they are a stuffed chile often with a cheese blend, battered and fried. I think the only thing I didn't enjoy was the avocado enchilada, but I can't say I'm a huge fan of avocados. Be careful when you begin to indulge, the plates are always hot! Last night I went with my girlfriend(should have went on Cinco de Mayo!). I decided to try the Stuffed Chicken Medallions. Chicken breasts stuffed with chorizo, poblano peppers, and cheese, then deep fried an cut into medallions. It was served with baked beans, spanish rice, and some sort of sauce(sauce wasn't mentioned on the menu and I couldn't figure out what it was). The medallions were delicious, and properly cooked. They paired well with the tangy mystery sauce. I didn't try the beans, not a fan. The spanish rice wasn't anything special, pretty dry. I'll give Abuelo's 4 stars for quality service and food every visit.

The carnitas taco used to be so good here. Looks like they changed the menu and now the carnitas tacos are terrible. They used to have a good amount of cilantro and the meat was perfect. Now the meat is a soggy mess with little flavor and the toppings are weak. Service was very good.

Our server mixed up my companion's shrimp tacos for tilapia, then took 20 minutes to get new ones. My fajita salad was incredibly underwhelming, with a few steak strips, and getting the dressing for the salad took 20 minutes as well. Shrimp tacos arrived cold after the wait. Disappointing.

Went here while in town for work... Awesome place! The chips and salsa (3 varieties) were delicious and always kept full. Alan, the waiter, provided exemplary service. Even though the veggies were a little undercooked, the Chicken fajitas were delicious. And I'm sure if I would have mentioned it, Alan would have corrected it for me. I'll be coming here whenever I'm back in Indy.

There's nothing really "wrong" with Abuelo's, but it's Mexican food in the same sense that PF Chang's is Chinese food or pizza is Italian food. In other words, it's not. This is the meeting I imagine the suits behind Abuelo's had: Tyler: "How can we create a Mexican food chain for white folk in suburbia who really don't like Mexican food, Mexicans, or anything from or about Mexico?" Connor: "Let's make bland Mexican-like food, serve it on fancy plates, back off on the spiciness so that it's not spicy at all, and charge a lot of money for it." Logan: "But we have to decorate the place so white folk in the 'burbs don't feel that they are outside the US and don't feel threatened." Hunter: "Yes, yes. That's it!" Well, they succeeded. For real Mexican food, go to La Hacienda.

I have been enticed to visit this Mexican place for awhile now as it is frequently featured on ads that run late night during the block of Seinfeld/Friends/Cheers on Channel 4. My cousin recently moved from our hometown to Carmel and I chose this place to have dinner with him because it's near his place and I wanted margaritas like whoa. Margaritas I got, and I was pleased. The Friday night special is an 18 oz-er for $5 and some change. I will have two please. Also, the server recommended this dip sampler that honestly changed my life a little. The three dips (a regular cheese dip, a chili cheese dip, and some creamy whipped avocado) in harmony with the three salsa options we were provided with complementary created so many dipping options. I have never been so pleased to be so overwhelmed. I order the Juarez dinner which, to be honest, is kind of a off-putting name (recalls of the infamous Ciudad Juarez, which isn't a place I want to think too much about while dining or ever trying not to be horrified and sad) for such a delicious plate of food. It was kind of a lot (I took some home) but I am glad I ordered it because it allowed me to sample many different menu options. There was a hard shell taco (because, stating the obvious here, I love me some tacos) two different enchiladas, a tamale, and something else I think. It also came with beans (and the best part) your choice of boring ass rice or a freaking mashed potato. My mouth dropped with happy joy excitement once I made sense of what the server just said to me. She really offered me a mashed potato with Mexican food. I literally could have jumped up and hugged her. No one has offered me anything so amazing since I found out Biscuits Cafe in Broad Ripple has both tacos and biscuits and gravy. So Abuelos is a hit, obviously. The food could have been terrible (it wasn't; quite the opposite actually) and I probably still would have been thrilled over the mashed potato.

We have eaten at this Mexican restaurant several times. It has become our favorite place to stop. The food has always been good. We have only had bad service once or twice which is good for the number of times we have visited. I think the prices are fair and the portions are good. The chicken quesadilla on the starter menu is really good and can serve as a meal for one if you want a lite meal. The enchiladas are really good and so is the pork burrito.

The nice decore and cloth napkins just don't make up for the fact that this place has bad food. My taco was well below Tacobell quality and four times the price. They are relying way too much on pretty atmosphere while ignoring food quality. It's expensive too. This place is in trouble. We won't go back.

Food B+. had pork tenderloin and spinach epinaca side Waited 25min made three requests for a pitcher of beer Serious management problems with the floor and poor role assignments with staff. Second and last trip to this establishment. Food not worth aggravation. Literally stood at bar while server spoke with freind at bar. No incentive for mgr as after walking floor she hides by restroom and talks with guest. Great building and potential. As mgr i would restaff this place before doors close

My first experience with Abuelo's was not good...I don't remember it that clearly b/c it was 5 years ago but I haven't been back since b/c I was unimpressed, I hate chains and this one was no exception at the time. Last night, the hip mamas group I am in decided to have margaritas here. Since I am pregggggnant (and lame!) I could not partake but I was starving so I tried something new on the menu. I indulged in the carnita tacos: Three "street food" style soft corn tortillas stuffed with delicious slow roasted pulled pork and topped with lettuce, tomato and shredded Monterrey jack and cheddar cheeses Let's just say...I'm still thinking about them. They were very good. The pulled pork was juicy and well seasoned, the sauces and toppings were right on, the tortillas were flaky and delicious. The papas that came on the side were also VERY cheesy and carb-loaded fabulousness. I really enjoyed the side of guac (and put that on top of the tacos). Sooooo yummy! I would go back b/c of these! The service last night was also good. We got separate checks, there were 10 of us and we were serviced VERY well. I was impressed with this experience, though I can't give it much more than three stars b/c chain restaurants are what they are, y'know?

We have been craving some good tex mex, and Abuelos did not disappoint! We ARE in Indiana, so it can be hard to find- but in this land of a million family owned decent Mexican restaurants, this chain stands above. The service was great- Kara was terrific, and should be- she has been there 6 years! Seems like all the staff enjoys working there, kudos to management for that. No one likes to dine where the staff hates their jobs! Ok, the food- fresh awesome. The chips are homemade, warm, thin and crispy. Great deals on drinks depending on what night you go. FOUR different salsas to suit any taste. We had the fajitas for two- you have the option to choose four of six options. We had the steak, chicken, shrimp and veg. The choice of sides was above and beyond bland rice and beans: mexican mashed potatoes, 3 types of bean, two kinds of rice and more. The setup- guac, sour cream, cheese, pico, lettuce and tortillas was ample and delish. The fajitas were terrific, we'd have licked the pan if it weren't so hot! My only regret is that Abuelos has been near our house for 9 years and we had never been- crazy! Go! You will be glad you did!

I really enjoy Abuelo's. It's like an middle-upper-class Mexican restaurant. The chips are awesome and food is great. Most plates are $10+, so it's not the cheapest mexican fare. Much much better than Don Pablos across the street though! They seem to only hire gay men as servers, and older mexican women as "chip servers" and "table cleaners." It's really a sight to see and I'd love for you to go and let me know if you experience the same findings.

YUMMMM. love this restaurant. rarely have to wait on a saturday night. it's a tex-mex chain...and the food is soooo good. i used to live in texas so i love me some good tex-mex and this fits the bill!! good chips and salsa (which is a must). good margaritas. i always have the fajitas, which are amazing...and there is always enough left over for me to eat the next day! you'll pay a tad more here than what you would at any other tex-mex joint... that's the only drawback in my opinion.

Mostly gloppy chain food Mexican at upscale prices. This has it's place, but you can get the same for less at the more casual chains.

After 2 not so memorable experiences I'm glad I gave Abuelo's another shot. A few years ago, we visited Abuelo's....twice....and I was not at all impressed with the quality versus price aspect of the place, but last night's visit changed my mind. The service was friendly and attentive, the Margarita (it starts with a G) was almost my favorite in the city and my chicken fajitas were marvelous. The server mentioned that they recently started packing the fajitas with veggies (broccoli, carrots, onions, squash) and it really makes a difference. The other members of my party had the Juarez platter and the Pescado Guerrero, they were both very satisfied. For an appetizer we had the dip sampler and it was delicious and large enough for a number of ppl to share. After last night's visit and the excellent service of our server (Lacey), we will be putting Abuelo's back in the date night rotation.

Loved the smoky, roasted flavor of the salsa. Tried the Sauteed Chicken Zucchini, as recommended by amiable server Lacey, served piping hot. You wouldn't even have to like or eat the zucchini to appreciate the wonderful taste; apparently the same sauce is used for their pescado guerrero (mahi-mahi), which I'll be trying next visit. Enjoyed the best cup of coffee I've had in a while. Thumbs up!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
