We have stopped by and enjoyed treats here and there, but after ordering 72 cupcakes for a birthday party I am confident in saying THIS PLACE IS GREAT. Amazing flavor choices available and I went with the birthday boys favorite flavors, which included Guinness (amazing and my new favorite), Dreamscicle, chocolate, chocolate cherry, and red velvet. The cupcakes are absolutely beautiful and delicious. They are perfectly moist and the frosting is on point. Easy to order. Amazingly friendly and helpful staff They deliver for $6 and totally worth it.

This place is the best. They were extremely helpful, friendly and willing to work with us. We called from Massachusetts to order our son that stayed in IU for summer camp a birthday cake. It was last minute order, even they were very busy that day, they still tried their best to get our order in. Later we had to change the cake pick up time multiple times, they were so kind and did their best to help us. The cake was beautiful and tasted delicious (according my son). Many thanks for the wonderful service!!!

I think Underground Cupcakes & Cafe must still be a well kept secret for both vegetarians and/or cupcake lovers because it seriously excels in both of those categories but is often times still half empty when I come here. There is a separate vegetarian section of the menu with four different sandwich options. I have tried three of them so far--Popper, Torta Vegetarian, and Veg on Wire--and all of them are unique and delicious. I have also had a couple of their vegetarian soups and they have all been super tasty as well. And the cupcakes! This place has some of the best cupcakes in the area! They always offer several different varieties and show a lot of creativity in all of the cupcakes they offer. If you like them on Facebook, they advertise what cupcake flavors and different soups they are offering that day, which will for sure make you want to give them a visit. Definitely one of my favorite places in town for vegetarian lunch and cupcakes.

This place really is a gem, and how fortunate we are to have it in the Ellettsville area; it would do great anywhere! Though their claim to fame is cupcakes, they could just as easy be called "Underground Soups & Sandwiches." Their rotation of exotic soups such as Ethiopian Stew, Hoppin' John (a Cajun/creole stew), and my personal favorite, Potato Spinach Artichoke, could stand up against the most acclaimed in the area. The sandwiches don't change as often as the soups, but they don't need to! There are plenty of choices whether you're a carnivore or herbivore. Furthermore, their daily dishes are always noted as vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, etc. so you'll know what you're getting. Every dish I've had here has delicious tasting, fresh ingredients -- especially the vegetables. Just to name one, the avocado and tomatoes on the Turkey Cobb are always great. The place has a really clean, city vibe to it. One wall features a silhouetted skyline, the opposite wall has menus, self-serve ice water, and pictures of confectionery work, likely created by one of the owners or employees who works on the cupcakes. Pictures of London on the walls really set the scene. A review of a cupcake store cannot go without a mention of the cupcakes, no matter how good the soup. The cupcakes are without a doubt professional, both in design and flavor. You'll find a list of all flavors at the front, and it's a long one. I would mention as many as I could, but it wouldn't scratch the surface of their repertoire, so here's just one of my favorite flavors: Root Beer. They have a range of 5-10 different flavors ready to serve each day, and make the others on request for bigger orders (yes, they cater). The more intricate flavors can get a little pricey, but it's worth it to give them a try. Try their many coffee options, too. Underground and its employees really know what they're doing. The owners are often in the store, taking your order and making the food on your plate. They're always trying new, adventurous dishes, and they seek out costumer feedback. Underground really sets the standard around town for small, quick eats, and they deserve recognition.

Not just Cupcakes! Sandwiches, Soups, Salads, and of Course Cupcakes. Includes both Gluten Free and Sugar Free Cupcakes. All of their sandwiches also come in a Gluten Free option and they offer at least one Gluten Free Soup choice a day along with a Vegetarian selection on their yummy soup menu which rotates daily. Several Vegetarian Sandwiches are available on their regular menu which is very refreshing for Ellettsville IN. Really, the food is great for this tiny little town just outside of Bloomington. The theme and meal names are fun and inventive but the storefront is tiny and service can be a little slow, especially during lunch and dinner rush. You can call ahead and speed things up and I am pretty sure they have lunch delivery now. However, the staff is very friendly and work hard to make sure you leave happy. I will add that if you have a big order of cupcakes call ahead to make sure there are enough. When they run out...well they are out! The flavor combinations for their sandwiches and cupcakes work well and the ingredients are fresh and tasty. The prices are reasonable, and there are different combo meals or al a carte options. As stated above, the cupcakes are yummy and vegan and gluten free choices are offered daily. The soups, usually 4 choices daily, are tasty and also come in gluten free, vegetarian, and vegan. My favorite sandwich is the gluten free Pot Roast! Catering order on cupcakes which are simply delicious is available, even customized flavors!

I consider myself a bit of a cupcake connoisseur - admittedly, it takes a lot to impress me. That being said, I really love Underground's cupcakes. I bought two "to go" - a vanilla one and their red wine cupcake. In my opinion, any cupcake shop worth its frosting needs to have a solid vanilla cake. And Underground's is indeed very solid. The red wine cupcake was delicious. I've never encountered any bakery or shop that offered a red wine cupcake, so I thought this was pretty neat.

I travel, a LOT, and honestly can't think of a lunch spot in this price range that has had a better selection with better quality than UCC. Every time I stop by there are always new recipes (soups, especially) that are imaginative but not TOO exotic. And there's a cupcake for everyone for dessert...they've got gluten-free, sugar-free, and of course the full-service scandalous flavors like the "Elvis" (peanut butter, banana and, yup, BACON. It's amazing, I promise). If you're in Bloomington it's definitely worth the quick trip to Ellettsville for some UCC. And if you're from elsewhere, it's still worth it!!

For those that need more convincing....cupcakes=awesome! The first time I visited, I got 1.5 dozen assorted flavor cupcakes (at ~10am on a Friday - couldn't believe they were well-stocked at a somewhat odd hour). The lunch menu is great as well, with the buffalo chicken being my favorite. The folks behind the counter and in the kitchen are as nice as could be, which is just a bonus as far as I'm concerned. I'll be back plenty!

Sweet little lunch spot away from the college crowd. Lovely service, fresh ingredients, and delicious cupcakes!

The name of this place may be Underground Cupcakes, but it's become much less of a secret in Bloomington and for more than just cupcakes. The attention to quality and detail is evident and everything is delicious. On our most recent visit, we ordered their Cubano and their Chicken Salad sandwiches. Because one of us is on a glutin-free diet, the Chicken Salad sandwich was on the best and most tasty glutin- free bread we've had in a restaurant in quite a while. The Cubano was as good as similar offerings we've had in South Florida. The merger of flavors were very satisfying. Their selection of cupcakes also is impressive, as one might expect. Definitely worth the drive on Indiana 46 toward Ellettsville. And no parking meters!

I am so impressed! Honestly great food, very nice staff, locally owned. I had the Cuban sandwich with their Asian pear salad and my son had the blt. So fresh tasting that it puts any chain out there to shame. Cupcakes were pretty darn good too. Total gem.

I'm always looking for delicious bakeries. Found it! It's "out of the way" if you live on the East side. They have regular delicious flavored cupcakes and then there are 'secret' cupcakes which are made with different types of liquor. The staff is super friendly. They also have sandwiches and soups. No set menu and it is always changing.

The staff is super friendly. They have sandwiches and soups in addition to their gourmet cupcakes (red velvet is to die for!!!). No set menu and it is always changing.

This place is AWESOME! The theme is The underground, but the food is definitely off the hook. The cupcakes are just wonderful. They are specially formulated over a great deal of effort by one of the owners. She is really particular about how things taste. The lunch sandwiches were taste tested by a number of people before released to the public palate. They fill special orders for cupcakes. (Do you like Black Licorice? Believe it or not they actually made a batch of these. They were WONDERFUL!) My favorite sandwich is "The Hot Pursuit". My wife really enjoys the Roasted Red Pepper and the Chicken Tortellini. You will not be disappointed!

I LoVe this place! The apple gouda salad is delicious. Every soup I've had has been great. Just tried the raspberry cupcake today and it was wonderful. The staff is always friendly and helpful. My father-in-law loves this place and he hates everything.

Underground was incredibly helpful to me when I was in a pinch: I desperately needed a small replacement sugar-free cake for an event that evening and they came to my rescue! They were also very detail oriented and could not have been nicer over the phone or when I went in to pick it up. On top of that, the prices are absolutely reasonable-- $20 for a rush 8-inch sugar-free cake (and it was super cute!). I will definitely use them again in the future and recommend them to others.

The cupcakes are good and really pretty. The sandwiches are great especially the chicken salad sandwich. It's a great little place that offers cupcakes, soups, salads, and sandwiches.
