The lunch buffet is one of the best ways to fall asleep at work for the afternoon. Good food. Decent mix of food. Cash is cheaper than credit card, and with cash this is a very cheap, very filling lunch.

My favorite Indian in town! They have a frequent visitor card; buy ten buffets, get one free! I love the onion chutney. Their buffets are my favorite.

Taste of India is one of my favorite places to eat in Bloomington that is in an affordable price range. There are a few dishes that I've learned to avoid (I ordered a lamb dish and wasn't happy with the quality of the meat, the vegetable Jalfreezi is clearly made from low quality frozen vegetables), but aside from those most dishes are really good. Chana masala is the favorite of both myself and my girlfriend. If we're not sure what to order, we order that. I give it 4 stars instead of 5 only because of the quality of some of the produce and the meat. I've been happy with everything else.

The foods are great! Chicken or lamb butter and garlic naan are my go to! Their rice is wonderful. Its aromatic and delicious (I can eat their rice only) It's a nice indian restaurant and is worth to try! Will absolutely come back! I tried this at the restaurant. I did ordered delivery before and I personally think its not as good as if you're eating at the restaurant, because it gets cold. Anyway, love it!

Honestly some of the best Indian food that I've had in the U.S. The vegetable Samosas were lite and flavorful, especially with the mint chutney on top. The Malai Kofta was exceptionally good, and actually had a little kick to it. Overall, very good and reasonably priced!

Wow, it was awesomely delicious! We ordered it "hot" and oh, yes it was! I was crying (okay, not really cry-crying, but eyes watering and sniffling) in between bites of the deliciousness and fanning myself from sweating. My tastebuds were in sensory overload with sheer happiness and bliss. The service was attentive, the atmosphere is quaint. We sat outside on a beautiful Indiana evening and it was delightful. If I lived in Bloomington, I would be a regular. But knowing the food is so good here will give me another reason to visit Bloomington more frequently, and take my kids who are students at IU, to dinner where we can feast together! I'm already looking forward to my next visit.

I really wanted to like this place... I really did. I had already gone to India Garden down the street and though I liked them, I wanted to give this place a try as well to compare and just to explore a little more of what Bloomington had to offer. I called in before I headed over; they assured me I could order items off the menu. I was a little excited. The place was more of a restaurant - a single open room - as opposed to India Garden which was in what looked like a converted house. Even so, it seemed more dimly lit and crowded. The staff seemed nice enough, but less personal. Perhaps that was my downfall - to think that I would have choices. Sure I had a choice - one. One option. While I was seated right in front of the buffet bar. I was the only one ordering off the menu. In their defense, the place was packed since I came during lunchtime and it was the only small table available and I was a party of one. Fine. I can't blame them. Anyway, I could only get the Aloo Gobi. Though I like my potatoes and my cauliflower, what I love about Indian food are the gravy curries - and that was out of the question here. They apparently pre-make ALL of their gravies and they ALL include onion and garlic. My only choice? The curry spiced, relatively dry-cooked classic Potato & Cauliflower (with some bits of tomato, which I'm glad it had because it gave it that extra tang that the dish otherwise lacked), essentially what Aloo Gobi means. I've never ordered Aloo Gobi at an Indian restaurant before, but I guess there's a first time for everything. Don't get me wrong - it wasn't bad, and sure, I could have declined, but I also have a general motto of trying things out. Perhaps the Aloo Gobi would blow my socks off. I stayed and ordered it mildly spicy - it wasn't really all that spicy. My nose didn't even feel like it was tempted to run. I didn't mind, but it was a new concept to me when it came to Indian food, since I'm used to blowing my nose at least once whenever enjoying Indian cuisine. I didn't even think the Aloo Gobi had much of the Indian spices - did mildly spicy also mean mildly spiced? The food itself was not bad. A good portion size; I guess I was just disappointed at my lack of choices because having just one side dish of mildly spicy (and spiced) potatoes and cauliflower (and the occasional gem of a diced tomato) with plain basmati rice is a bit one dimensional. More on the rice - it was tender and soft to the point that some of the usually long grains were breaking. It wasn't bad, but... too soft? The basmati I usually get still keep their form. I guess I've been spoiled by all those all-vegetarian, Jain-friendly Indian restaurants I frequent. I understand that Bloomington is a smallish college town and being a restaurant, you should appeal to the masses, but also be a bit more flexible. Please? It's helpful for those who have strict dietary restrictions and are visiting and temporarily have no kitchen to utilize. haha, at least the restaurant is aptly named - Taste of India, indeed. One taste through one dish. ;)

Being here long time ago, very delicious indian food, I love their curry, spicy but not too spicy, their indian bread are crispy, salty and tasty, the amount is a lot, and easy to feel full when order one dish

Delicious Indian food! We've been for the lunch buffet and dinner, we always receive courteous service and enjoy a great meal! The lunch buffet is less than $10 (even less if you pay with cash; they give a 5% discount for paying with cash on all meals). The lunch buffet is pretty basic Indian food, but done right! The food is rich and the flavors are well developed with multiple spices! You can't go wrong with the chicken curry or butter chicken. They also serve naan and vegetable samosas, which are incredible! Dinner by the entire is good as well, a fancier atmosphere than lunch. Garlic naan is a must to start off with, the medium curry is about right for me, and then finish the meal with a Mango Lassi! See you there!

The Dosa chef was off on a Friday night. Minus one Star. Other than that......? Great atmosphere. Great service. Great food. The place was comfortable and busy. Clientele of different ages from babies to senior citizens. Easily the best most tastiest food I've had in the U.S. on this short tour. I had the Vindaloo at it was delicious. Bombay Aloo was also great. I have to recommend the Taj beer. Very good. Do yourself a favour if your visiting Bloomington, Indiana or if you live here and have never had Indian food before. This place is worth a visit.

Taste of India: Cold Beverages Served Warm After nearly indulging myself in all of their neighbors, there was obligation to at least give Taste of India a lick. But, after the ordeal was done, I hopped, skipped, and jumped out of there and did the walk, err, sprint of sh**ame. Here's what happened: The server was everything but knowledgeable. In fact, there were three serves, or, one server and two helpers--it was confusing and I didn't know whom to tip. Even with all of the helpers, my iced Chai wasn't iced--served warm. Speaking of warm: The glass in which the water was served was a red wine glass and yes, it, too, was served warm, maybe they were out of ice and regular glasses. But, then again, they did just open upon my arrival. Beyond being serviced with warm beverages, the menu was too vast. More does not always equal better. Too much at once is overwhelming. So, instead of having several pages of choosings, stick with the house favorites and fiddle around with seasonal recipes. Too many options creates indecisiveness, and that could be a turn-off. Unfortuneately, that wasn't the worse part. Here it is: food poisoning. There was a contamination issue. Either someone was playing with raw meat and not using protection, or, something. Regardless, I became very ill. I should have stayed true to my golden rule: If the bathroom is utterly disgusting, get the fack out! In case it were an off day, here is the one good experience: I enjoyed the lamb curry so much that it was nearly offensive. The balance between cumin, coriander seed, turmeric, and the other earthy spices that make up this wonderful dish, rendered my curries flat. Anyway, the spicy level was set to I need milk!, which I enjoyed. The lamb was definitely not frozen. It had such a rich texture and savoriness that if I were to guess its cut, it would be the shoulder. Unfortunately for Taste of India, however, I'm in the market for something more than just good meat and sauce. So, in today's lesson we have learned: Warm water+spicy curry (although delicious)+warm iced chai+hot, sunny day+food poisoning+inadequate service = not a good time. Thus, 1 star.

Hands down the best indian buffet in town. I would never go for dinner as each curry dish is $13+ which is way excessive given the portion size, however for lunch if you pay cash it is $9 which is a steal for the quality and selection they have. They always have multiple curries, both meat and vegetarian dishes to choose from, definitely keep the buffet fresh and do not wait for it to hit bottom before refilling. Usually not a fan of buffets but this one is definitely the best value given there are about 3 other indian buffets that you can choose from.

Went to the lunch buffet and it was absolutely phenomenal. Everything was delicious and fresh. Probably the best Indian food I've ever had (though to be fair, I haven't had a lot!). The price for the buffet was more than fair AND they have a 10% discount for cash. However, everyone seems to know how great this place is- it was jam packed. We went at 1:00 PM on a Thursday and had trouble finding a seat. Because of that, it was incredibly loud in the restaurant, which is really very small. However, everything was amazing and I'll still go back (multiple times). This is definitely better than my usual place, India Garden, and is worth the extra couple bucks for an entree.

It was a beautiful day outside and we were looking for a place to sit outside and eat and Taste of India had plenty of both -- seating. And food. I imagine the options in the buffet do not change often, but they are going for the greatest hits here -- or the things most people pick and that's fine. Hey, can't complain too much. Tandoori chicken, a few chicken curries, a few veggie, different kinds of rice, quite a few salads and chutneys, all for about $10. There were no samosas, but that was fine -- as adventurous as I am with food often enough, I usually stick to the basics and the buffets deliver. Chicken. Tikka. Masala. And all you can eat! How were there not more college students here on such a nice day. Actually, I think they were all at the place down the street, which I think is a dollar cheaper, but I thought the lunch options here were perfectly satisfying. Service good (of course most of the time you're getting your own stuff) but plates were taken away regularly (I'm not even a stickler for that, they're the ones who put up a big sign to use new plates...) and I think once our waiter even said 'with pleasure sir' or something like that, which always throws me a bit. I'd go back in a heartbeat. (I do think it's funny that I'm pretty sure I know of a handful of places called Taste of India, and of course the Indian lunch buffet with many of the same options, but it's definitely not a point against it. -- I go to those places all the time.)

Went here for the third time in as many years. Food was good, if not hot enough for my tastes. Good selection. Good presentation. But if they're slammed with customers, their service buckles, and badly. I finally had to put my credit card with my bill to get the attention of management so that I could leave the place. There is formal dining here, and again, the food is good, but not fantastic. Despite the lack of fine dining, and the highly informal atmosphere of Bombay Cafe, I'm going back to Bombay Cafe. The food is stellar, and perhaps 30-40% less expensive.

My family and I went for the lunch buffet on the weekend. The food wasn't as good as I expected. The mango lassi and palak paneer were delicious. The other vegetarian curries lacked flavour and weren't that tasty. Lastly, the sweets did not taste good at all!! The taste of the kheer was a bit off. And the carrot halwa was swimming in milk and did not have any garnish (ex. cashews, raising, cardamom).

Taste of India is one of my favorite restaurants for take out. Food is quick and they have large portions and I love leftovers! Their samosas and vegetable pakora are delicious for appetizers. And for entrees I have gotten the chicken tikka masala, lamb byriani, and the chicken curry--all are really yummy. They also have a nice patio in the summer. I usually order from btown menus because they have good deals. I would recommend taste of india over the other indian restaurants in town.

Great lunch buffet, under 10 bucks, last call is 14:30, Monday to Sunday. They always have chicken tikka masala everyday. The food is really good, but I started avoiding it because I was overeating -- eating all I can (it is all you can eat, after all), but then I found out that they do buffet takeout -- you get a box instead of the table. The box easily fits at least 1,1kg of great and tasty food, they also even give u a small box for desert. Great food, plus you can't beat the price -- cheaper than the stale or even frozen food at the supermarkets. They also have a rewards card -- 11th lunch is free. They remove all food from the buffet at 14:30 -- if u want to eat-in, and have a second round to the buffet, pretty much have to come before 14:10, they generally don't even seat anyone after about 14:15, but take out is good until 14:25 or so. Service is fancy, but some servers are way too eager to remove your plates -- I think I've had two cups of desert removed, neither one I have even started eating! Very annoying! Leave my non-empty plates alone! I've seen their dinner prices, and it is all too fancy, wouldn't go there for dinner. But you can't go wrong with lunch takeout!

Less than $10/head for a decent lunch buffet. Can't really complain too much. In fact as I was leaving I popped up Yelp app on my phone to check in a noticed a coupon... get something like 10% off if you pay with cash I think it was. So, yeah OK food, fast lunch, not too expensive. Hit all the marks for my idea of what lunchtime should be on a work day.

Had an initially bad experience with the delivery, but the manager was exceptional in contacting me promptly and fixing the problem. Flying stars for great customer service... and for fixing Mr. Delivery's mistake.

The food is good and reasonably priced. This place would get five stars but the service is inconsistent. Depending on the day/mood you can either get great service or downright rude. Go for the food and don't expect anything else and you will enjoy it.

Considering my dad grew up in India, curries, masala and daal have been a big part of my life, in terms of food. I hope, therefore, I can be helpful to people who aren't used to Indian food. First, I've never seen such a wide selection of naan (chewy bread). The menu is mostly North Indian, but I remember that they offer dosa. The aloo ghobi is especially tasty, though it kicks ass at the spiciest level. Also be sure to check out the chicken tikka masala (my meat-eating friend loved it). It's worth noting that the waiter offers you that your food be prepared "Indian-spicy." Unless you've trained your taste buds or are Indian/Thai, this is probably too much for you. The only real complaint I have about this place is that, unlike almost every other Indian restaurant, you will have to ask for them to refill your water. Best Indian food in B-town.

  • Ankit R.

Food is pretty bland. Buffet is a rip-off. Buffet here is for somebody who never has had indian food before. Service was not very commendable. Only saving grace is the madras curry. Keep it in the menu. Reason some of us used to go there is because we did not have many good Indian food options in B-Town.

The best Indian restaurant in Bloomington! Clean place, friendly helpful staff. Large portions great for sharing, well priced. Awesome northern and southern Indian cuisine. LOVE the Chicken Angara. They prepare each dish to your spice specifications. They can make food so hot you'll cry, or choose mild and even the most spice-intolerant person will find things they love. One of the best lunch buffets in Bloomington, 7 days a week.

    (4)
  • Jason J.

I love this place! They have amazing food and even better service. Their buffet is awesome for lunch, and their portion sizes and quality is perfect during dinner time. The Tikka Masala is always a winner, but I've never ordered anything here that hasn't been prepared perfectly.

  • Dalia M.

Decent Indian food. I've ordered delivery from here a couple times. I usually get stuck picking what to get given I'm Brown and my dining partner tends to not be. I've had some yummy dishes: Chicken korma, Bhindi ... and some not so yummy dishes: Aloo gobi. Standard naan, rice, the usuals accompany these entrees. I'll keep trying it because sometimes I get homesick of my mom's cooking and way too lazy to cook it, and need some Indian in my life.

  • Joey S.

The food before was good, but the butter chicken has changed. It used to be sweet but now it tastes just like a regular curry. The chicken tandoori is undercooked. The biggest complaint that I have is that the dishes are not washed properly. They glass of water that they gave me had lipstick marks around the rim and I told them about it and they just replaced it with another dirty one. I like eating here for the buffet but the dirty dishes just turns me off. Tips to everyone who want to eat here: bring your own drinks and make sure that you check the dishes before you eat or drink.

Service is horrible I didn't see the owner anymore in the Resturant maybe he open another Resturant but since he gone food quietly bad servers are rude seems like they don't wanna serve they gotta push to serve Moreover one employee literally ask me tip I can't believe it. Next time if you really wanna try ask the Indian owner if he is there then spend some money

very good ethnic food for a small town in Indiana. the butter chicken and chicken curry were very tasty, although the meat was a little dry. The naan bread was good but they didn't have garlic naan on the buffet. The price was acceptable and the service was what you expect in a small establishment. Both indoor and outdoor seating was a plus.

The buffet is large and delicious. Nice outdoor seating.

  • Praveen D.

I would never walk into this, place again. Horrible taste and it's not even close to Indian. Too expensive for the quality of food and the Manager doesn't even know, how to treat the customer. Intact he dint even honnor the yelp discount

    (1)
  • dmitri k.

Target audience: local community that is not interested in authentic Indian. Unlike this place, authentic Indian is heavy in spice and full of fat. This place has lightened the flavors and lightened the fat content. Just not my cup of tea,

  • Anna P.

I have been here a few times now and I can say that, consistently, the food is great and the service is terrible. By terrible, I certainly don't mean rude (everyone is unfailingly friendly). Just slow and somewhat inattentive. Not a great place to come if you're in a rush. That said, their food is really terrific. I love spicy food, and when I order a dish medium/spicy I am always happy. The naan is affordable and there are so many varieties to choose from, I always get a couple of different ones to share. I still haven't tried the lunch buffet yet, and apparently I need to rectify this IMMEDIATELY. If you are in Bloomington and you love Indian food, this is your spot.

  • Jeremy A.

Not the very best Indian food we've had, but certainly very good. We've gone for lunch and dinner. The lunch buffet is a great deal, with lots of choices. Most of them are pretty mild, I guess to please spice-phobic midwesterners. But it's still a treat. There are always several vegetarian choices for my wife. What I like best is dinner. Not cheap (see their menu online), but if I ask for hot I get make-me-sweat hot. And not just hot -- really flavorful. The chicken pasanda and vindaloo are faves. We order too much and then have days of leftovers. The service is OK but not impressive -- neither very fast nor very attentive, though always courteous. We've always been pleased, except for the one time we did take-out. Then, portions were smaller, they didn't throw in any sauce or chutney (in other places, tamarind sauce and mint/cilantro chutney come standard), and forgot our raita. Still, we keep going back a couple of times a month.

So great! I love indiana food so I was happy to find a great one in Bloomington. Their lunch buffet was excellent with a lot of choices. I also tried dinner and it was great too. I tried the paneer and onion stuffed naan and would recommend it. The people working there have been friendly whenever I have been there. They have an outdoor eating area and some area you can reserve that is like a fancy table with pillows and you sit low to the floor.

Great Indian food! Many veg options. Medium spice is perfectly spiced. Doesn't make you break a sweat :) but has a good kick. Staff is friendly. Discount if you pay cash. OutDoor seating available. RECOMMEND!

  • Erin B.

For a college town, this is pretty unreal Indian food. I ordered the chicken tikka at a spice level of medium. All white chicken and extremely flavorful. It was a lot of food for the price (three of us each did the eat cheap week special of an entree, naan and rice for $10) and each entree could have been two meals, though we managed to make it into only one. We did delivery and it was still great. Definitely will be returning!

Best Indian food in town. Very good palak paneer and butter chicken. Love the naan as well. Our go to take-away.

Great yelp coupon. $20 bucks buys you 40 bucks worth of food and drink...and tip if anything is left over. Service is atrocious! I'm no prima-donna by any stretch, but we were sat and not talked to for 10 minutes. It was a Friday night but not super busy. When we finally did see the waiter, he seemed put out that we had questions. Maybe it was a good thing he only came by 3 times during our visit. (order, food, check) The food was average at best. Americanized or not, Lamb Tikki Masala is my go to reference Indian meal. I've had it in at least 25 restaurants all over the country. This one was squarely in the bottom. I've had tastier buffet masalas. Will I return? Yep. Why? It's probably the best Indian in town, the beer selection is actually decent (2-hearted, Alpha King, Dragonfly, Bell's Porter plus your standard Indian piss water) and the $20 yelp deal is cheap for a quick fix

  • Jonny S.

I generally go to Amol India, but they were closed one day, and I was really jonesing for Indian so I checked this place out. Was intrigued to see they had a selection of southern Indian cuisine that Amol doesn't offer. I tried the chili paneer masala dosa. This was my first time trying dosa, so I don't really have anything to compare it to, but it was very tasty and just the right amount of heat. The layout of the restaurant is open so it's quite a bit louder than Amol, but not horribly so. If I want Northern Indian fare, I'll probably stick to Amol, but for Southern food Taste of India is a great choice.

OK, this place was great! Good food and lots of it. Staff was very friendly and we even took advantage of their Yelp deal, $20.00 for $40.00 worth of food. Waitress was very nice and saw me paying for the deal on my phone and even gave us a running total on our order and suggested things to get us close to the $40.00 mark. I hear they have a great lunch buffet, I have not been yet. For Indian food in town this is the place to go.

  • Devin C.

I've been here for the lunch buffet several times. The food is OK--Indian is not my favorite, but it is several of my friend's favorite. The service is usually decent, but the restaurant can get a little hectic. I find the options at the buffet to be a little limiting. You only go several times and you've pretty much experienced everything they have to offer. The restaurant is pretty noisy at this time too and they really really pack in as many people as they can. While the food taste decent, I have had some...indigestion issues...after eating here several times. I'm not sure if it's the fact that I don't eat this food often or that the amount of cream in some of the options is incredibly upsetting. For their buffet, there really isn't much description for what you're eating (if you don't know what the dishes are already) which I find to be a disadvantage as well. It would be difficult to bring someone who has dietary restrictions to the buffet for that reason. Lastly, I find it to be a little expensive. The buffet is $9.10 currently (incl. tax). Given the limited options, it's not that great of a deal. They do have a frequent flyer card where after so many buffets you get one free...but I'm not sure I'll make it. It's not my favorite place and I'm not sure I'd actively seek this place out if it weren't for my friends. There are some other buffets in town that are better priced with some better options in my opinion. If you're a fan of Indian food though, I'm sure you'll like it.

  • Micah M.

I love the lunch buffet and it is a comfortable place to eat. They do vary the options, so there's usually something new, but they also keep out their most popular. I like that they change things up. The staff is pretty friendly, too.

This is one of my new favorites. The staff is nice and the food is great! If you're wondering what to order because you've never had Indian food or perhaps you've accidentally ordered something that you didn't like, here are my recommendations! My boyfriend swore he didn't like India food until I ordered for him! Now he's addicted! (BTW, their lamb is amazing!) APPETIZER: aloo naan - Naan filled with spiced potatoes or keema naan - Naan stuffed with ground lamb and spices. * 2.95 MAIN DISH: lamb biryani - Basmati rice cooked with boneless lamb, vegetables, nuts, and raisins. or lamb kadahi - Lamb sautéed with onions, green peppers, tomatoes, and spices. or Chicken tikka - Succulent cubes of chicken breast, subtly marinated in yogurt and specially blended spices and broiled in the Tandoor (If you're used to Indian food and you don't mind the more saucy dishes, I recommend Lamb Saag as well).

I had lunch here one afternoon while they had the buffet option. The options were good and the items I tasted were very good. My overall experience was positive and if you like Indian good I'd recommend trying it.

I have only been to the buffet lunch. Good menu, under $10, so pocket friendly. Service is good, nice ambience. One suggestion is that there is scope for improvement in the menu.

We love this place. The food is amazing! Lamb Korma is my dish. The staff is always so friendly and helpful. Even when the place is pack the food and service are out of this world.

The Sunday lunch buffet was very good. However the variety was somewhat lacking and very little dessert. The carrot dish was amazing. The service wasn't that great. We were pretty much done with the meal before our drinks were served, and halfway through before we had to ask for our drinks. The only hot tea they had was Lipton, LOL!

  • Mark W.

I came here with some friends a couple of weeks ago and loved it. The food was tasty, and had just the right spice. The portions are large, which is always great for leftovers. I had the palak paneer, which is spinach and homemade cheese. It was creamy, spicy and full of flavor. The naan bread is huge, so don't order two! I used a yelp deal to get $40 worth of food for $20. Check to see if that deal is still active because it is well worth it!

  • Ellen G.

I have liked this place, but the quality has gone down hill. It should be great for vegetarians, but the food at the lunch buffet isn't marked well. Don't go if you prefer attentive and friendly service.

    (3)
  • Hova W.

The buffet is above average, and quite good for a buffet, but the real winner is ordering dinner. The food is unbelievably good - we've tried at least 6 different dishes and each one was very good - high quality meat, veggies, and spices. I think the overall rating deserves to be higher so that is why I'm giving it a 5, when really the full dining experience here is probably more of a 4. :)

  • Emily Z.

Oh god... I'm an addict for their chicken saag. It's sort of a problem. My only complaint is that it is a little expensive, BUT I usually can get two meals out of my single order of chicken saag. The dinner entrees are generously portioned. I really like their lunch buffet, too. Quite a few options and I must say it tastes better than the other Indian buffet I've been to. They messed up my take-out order one time, and then gave me free naan when I told them about it. They are very friendly.

First off. I was very impressed with their food, in fact, I had spent over $120 on 4 orders in the past week... Never again though. I ordered another $40 in food today which included a couple entrees, thai iced tea and pineapple juice. Last time I got pineapple juice, it came filled to the brim with ice, so the actually pineapple juice was only a few ounces and it obviously came a bit watered down by the time it got here. So, this time I ordered the pineapple juice with no ice. It came with no ice, but these cheap-ass clowns put water in it to fill up the cup and save a few stinking cents - In the short run they saved maybe $.40, in the long run they lost a customer that would have probably netted them a few HUNDRED DOLLARS a month. This is beyond unbelievable. ***** ok, the hate is done... there fish curry is fanfuckingtastic. ****

I've been here twice and haven't been impressed yet. I've had the vegetable korma, the dosa, paneer and aloo gobi...none of which were meals I'd rave about. The korma was too sweet, the paneer lacked any spice and the aloo gobi was bland. The food is very overpriced as well. Service is okay- I had 1 bad experience with what seemed to be the owner. Personally, I like Amol India better.

I love their lunch buffet. All the curries they have out are delicious. their chutney, chicken, and naan bread are awesome! They season their rice which makes the dish even better. The decor is really nice and the atmosphere is very relaxing and has a classy touch. The only thing I'd say that's bad about this place is the price for dinner can be hard on a college students wallet. Other than that I really enjoy eating here. But you might smell like curries for a bit afterwards haha

I came here for the lunch buffet. I'm not a connoisseur of Indian food, but what I had was really good, albeit unidentifiable. I do know that the tandoori chicken was delicious, as well as the dish that had sweet potatoes.

The food is very good, my wife & I enjoyed it very much. The chili naan was especially tasty, as were our entrees. I was less appreciative of the indifferent service - the place was empty when we came in, yet we had to stand around for a few minutes before being noticed by the staff congregated at the bar. When it came time for the check, I was slightly annoyed by the 'cash only' policy which accompanied the gift certificate we used. If you are going to accept credit cards for some transactions, why not all?

Indian buffet! Yum! I am always a fan of Indian lunch buffets, and this place is no exception. I have been here now on multiple occasions, and have had consistently good food and service. The food is fresh and flavorful-- nothing sketchy about this buffet! Plus, they have frequent diner cards-- Free meals for regulars! If Taste of India wanted to bump up to 5 stars in my book, they would expand their dessert offerings for the buffet (usually there are only one or 2 choices out) and perhaps offer small complimentary mango lassi cups to patrons-- two amazing perks that other Indian restaurants have provided me in the past that won over my heart.

I've only eaten from the lunch buffet here, but it has always been delicious. Plenty of vegetarian options (if that kind of thing matters to you), and the Vegetable Pakoras and Chicken Tikka Masala are outstanding.

This is my go to Indian restaurant in Bloomington. They have a delicious lunch buffet and great portion sizes for dinner. By far the best Indian food for your dollar in town.

We went here for lunch on Saturday and the service was quite friendly. The buffet was decent but not the best Indian buffet I've ever had. I did hear that the dinners are better so I'd definitely give this place a shot again. Also, they give you a discount if you pay in cash and an even larger discount if you're a IU student who pays in cash. Not a bad deal!!

Hmm. I have mixed feelings about Taste of India. In terms of the food, I'd say that it is far and away the best Indian restaurant in Bloomington. The lunch buffet is very good (especially when it includes the outrageous Mango pudding), and food ordered off the menu has been even better. On the menu I would specifically recommend the Bhindi Masala and the Baingain Barta, both vegetarian and both very good. The mixed feelings come in when I begin to think about the service, which is remarkably and reliably unfriendly and rude. I don't expect coddling, but I do expect friendly and helpful service. It's actually really a shame that it is so bad or I would eat there more often. Hopefully they'll improve or I might actually go back to Shanti.

Just passing through town. Had a craving for Indian food in Indiana. Go figure. Drove from the hotel to the nice little downtown area. Nice late summer/early fall cool/warm weather. Perfect for comfort food. Taste of India fit the bill. I ordered a Chicken Curry, as it is the go-to/default dish that is potentially the true test of an Indian restaurant. I noticed on the menu that they will spice all meals according to the customer's request. I like that. I ordered the CC - hot. It was. It was good. It was above average. I also ordered samosas. They were good too. Overall, with high expectations, as usual, Taste of India did a good job with their offerings. This restaurant is recommended.

Best Indian food and experience in town, hands down! I have been here a few times and the food is always incredible and the service is always very good. I have been to a couple of other Indian places in town but this one wins! If you want authentic tasty Indian food, skip the others and go to Taste of India.

Have enjoyed a number of meals here. Though the food is uneven, same dish great one night and not so fine a few weeks later. Service also iffy, have had really helpful and quite rude service. That said the good experiences keep us coming back.

I went here a couple of times and I would give the lamb briyani a thumbs up, however, I do not think they are consistent with their food. The four occasions I came here, the briyani was of different level of spiciness even though I had ordered a level 3 (out of 5) and on the last occasion I went there, my friends had ordered some garlic naan and it was not well cooked, the garlic was a tad bit too raw. Overall, I love the food but I wished that they could be more consistent in the quality of it :)

Another Yelper and I went here on a cold January Sunday at 11 a.m. For most places serving a buffet lunch the picking would be slim at 11 a.m. when the first customers walked through the doorway, but we found the steam table fully loaded. Tastes were good, but nothing very spicy, and I was craving a swollen tongue experience. The other drawback was the food, while fresh looking, was not piping hot, especially the tandoori chicken. The tandoori chicken was exclusively drumsticks, not a thigh to be seen except on the girl at the next table. On the upside, the restaurant was clean, the plates were clean, and the service, such as it is at a buffet, was fast. The total for two at the lunch buffet, with tap water to drink was $18.19 which included tax.

Terrible service. Terrible. Our food was mixed up, for one-when it came out, I got my friend's order, and my friend got a random who-knows-what. I had eaten about 5-6 bites and left about 6-8 more uneaten off my plate when we finally realized and let the wait staff know that something was wrong with both of our orders-they took away my plate, promised to remake my order (which they did) BUT then gave my friend back the same dish they had mistakenly given me...meaning when they took my plate away, they threw away his food?!? And I had also eaten part of his dinner! I wanted to LEAVE right there and then when I realized they weren't going to remake his food...essentially, he had to eat after me. Cheap and tacky. Never, ever going back. Forgot to mention--when they brought out my remade food, we had to ask for new rice (which had been delved into and sitting on the table for 15 min. by that time) and I just went to an empty table and grabbed us new silverware. Oh. And we got complimentary bread which my friend can't even eat because he has a gluten allergy. Please, please try someplace else. Pathetic.

Bad service. My butter chicken sat in a pool of oil. Also it had an inadequate amount of chicken in it. In addition to this, the place once added a $40 tip, rather than $4. Their food usually makes up for the slip up... but not this time. Do Amol instead

Taste of India is a good addition to Bloomington restaurants. It drove down the (outrageous) prices at the other Indian places downtown. for lunch it's about what you'd expect from a lunch buffet. It's cheap by comparison with a lot of tasty options and all the naan you want. You can order off the menu but there is a $10 minimum per person if you want something else. For dinner I really love this place. The staff is nice and attentive. The food is great with a lot of seemingly authentic meat and vegetarian options. They'll give you as much rice as you want so for me it's enough to split one curry between two people or two between three with a naan or two. This keeps the price down since the dishes are not exactly cheap (but not too expensive).

Had dinner here the other night, a Sunday. It was crowded but we were seated quickly. If you are a party of 2 and the place is busy, be prepared to sit at one of the smallest tables known to humankind. The food was very good, although they would do well to provide some papadum while you wait (the wait was a little long), as most Indian restaurants (that I frequent) do. I was very impressed with my bhindi masala. Most of the service was fine or even good. However, I was startled when one of the waiters began Windexing a table adjacent to us while we were eating and the chemical smell was very noticeable. I literally can't remember the last time I've seen that happen in a restaurant. The same waiter, when bringing out our check and my take-home box (it's do-it-yourself) was carrying the check holder (probably pretty dirty by the end of the night) pressed INTO the inside of the box. I don't know if he was new or what, but he seemed not to have a grasp of good hygiene in food service.

Taste of India is a new restaurant located near the fire station on 4th street. I've gotten takeout and tried the lunch buffet ($8.50ish). The food was tasty enough, they had curries, salad, naan, plus lots of chicken and vegetarian dishes. The buffet is as classy as a buffet can be and everything was very clean. We ate out on the large patio and service was very attentive, our water glasses stayed full. The restaurant became rather crowded around noon, so it seems as though people like this place. The best thing about this Taste of India is that they offer fast delivery! Oh and the mango shake/lassis are fabulous and cheap.

I went to Taste of India again, and I realized that the dishes are actually just as expensive, if not more expensive than the other Indian restaurants in town. Perhaps I was remembering the lunch menu or something.

I went for lunch (in Sept. 09), when the buffet was the only option. Most of what was on offer neither looked nor tasted enticing. The cooking was mostly uninspired, and the food looked like it had been in and out of the warming pan for several days. The service left a lot to be desired as well. Many serving dishes on the buffet were left empty for a long while before being refilled (meaning people had to keep going back to see if their desired food had become available). The dining room has all the charm of a high school cafeteria, with a few Indian knickknacks scattered about. I have not been back.

Great new Indian restaurant in Btown, food here is pretty good and the prices are competitive. The location is also great and they have outside sitting arrangements as well.
