I seriously just found this place, and as it now is just down the street from my apartment, I'm likely to be walking over here regularly to get a donut that completely annihilates the point of walking over to it. Their donuts are good. Great even. Blueberry donut holes? Fantastic. Old fashioned donuts? Also fantastic. Yeast donuts? Quite good. (I've always been a more cakey-donut girl though, so don't judge the slightly less than stellar "quiet good". It's a taste preferance). The inside is a little dinky, and the staff is hit or miss. The blonde lady I had was grumpy and seemed to despise everything that existed on this planet and made it seem like me asking for half a dozen blueberry donut holes was akin to asking her to work fifty hours out in the fields detassling corn without food or water or help, but hey. The guy I had a few days later (see: I just discovered this place, I'm by no means an expert yet!) was nice and actually smiley, he just looked exhausted. But as others have noted that the grumpiness seems to be a schtick, y'know what, I'm gonna stick with it.

Passable. I don't consider myself a donut expert by any means, but I've been to quite a few in my day and Cresent certainly doesn't impress. The donuts themselves are okay, but the tone is quite the unfriendliest I've ever experienced. I mean, I don't expect much, but hey - give your customers a smile at least when they're giving you their business. I probably won't be coming back here again unless I'm craving some decent chocolate donuts that's not Kroger brand.

haha I can't believe I haven't written a review about this yet. One of the best perks of my apartment complex is that it is so close to Cresent Donuts. I bring every out of town visitor here, I find myself here after the bars (half price after 11 PM!), and I pick up a dozen when I'm having people over. There are plenty of rivalries in Bloomington, but there is one standard when it comes to donuts. Say 'Cresent Donuts' and you will see people's faces instantly light up.

Amazing. 24 hour. Donuts. Why are you still reading this? Go!
(5)David B.
I stop here nearly every week on the way home from work.....Thursdays. I get donut holes .. ...the best I've found anywhere...always fresh, cake donut holes....had a couple donuts too....awesome..
(4)Ben D.
Another Bloomington staple! If you want a no frills donut shop this is your place. The only other real place to get 'em at is square donuts and I like my donuts round.

It's around midnight on a Sunday night. The moon hangs low over the cemetery as a band of youths wanders the streets, one for each day of the week, hungry for a late night snack. Behold! a 24-hour donut shop, not 100 yards from the nearest gravestone. The youths enter with bright eyes and growling stomachs. Rock music can be heard playing in the kitchen, where a balding man and an apprentice are at work on the next morning's batch. The man saunters to the counter. "Evening, gentleman," he might have begun. "The donuts in the case are 2-for-1s, and the prices are on the wall. What'll you have?" Fingers are pointed and varieties are uttered. Old-fashioned, cake, and yeast-risen, chocolate, powdered sugar, glazed, plain, and coconut; one dozen in all. "One orange juice!" quickly becomes four, and the price at checkout is $10, give or take 64 cents. The youths sit at the counter and distribute the donuts, eating and drinking especially merrily. A call goes out: "Another dozen?" and the rest is history.

Cresent donut was a big fav back in the college days and I've returned here serveral times since. Their cake donut holes are amazing, and if you get the right worker, fairly frequently you'll get about 30 holes for the price of 13. It's a great little clean hole-in-the-wall.

This place is ridiculously cheap! I bought so many donuts that I had donut-coma afterwards. Definitely a MUST if you go to Bloomington. It doesn't get 5 stars because the attendant got a few things wrong in my order. However, we were 3 people talking back and forth among ourselves and with him, which can be confusing. And the result was yummy anyway. So I call it a win.

Donuts are yummy, and they are open 24hrs. What more could you want? Keep in mind they're cash only so hit the ATM prior. Some deduct for the attitude, as they are known for being unfriendly - but everyone knows that going in, so don't hold it against them! It's actually become just a part of the Cresent experience. A solid donut shop with great taste and variety. UPDATE: I stand corrected, it seems CD now DOES take credit cards. I was notified by loyal Yelper MsAnthro P. that she had used a credit card just that morning. SO, of course I sacrificed myself to investigate. MasterCard receipt in hand, 500 calories on my waistline, and she's right! So leave your cash at home, and head out to grab some donuts!

Had a friend surprise me...best donuts I've had...don't skip this place...their donuts beat big chains any day, and shopping local is best!
(5)Rachel A.
Got a half dozen plus some donut holes.... Yummy! The cake donuts were good, the fluffier style were nothing special. Pretty average donut shop. Staff was a little on the grumpy side. *I would be too if I stayed up all night making donuts!*
(3)Giselle C.
I enjoyed their donuts so much, I ate three one morning in thirty minute intervals. A mom and pop's shop. Classic donuts, miraculously soft, but crunchy. You know what I mean? The triple effect dough combo that makes you wonder how they do it. Probably the only place I'll ever go to in Bloomington to get donuts. Yum.

Cresent Donut...September 2014 - 3 Stars: been by this just-off-the-road place a number of times and finally stopped. They bill themselves as 24/7 donuts but it is not quite that. They make their creations in the morning and sell through the day, but the picking gets limited toward days end. Now for the donuts... We arrived on a weekend morning - undoubtedly prime time. Their specialty seems to be the plain old glazed raised donut and you can see why. Some shops make their glazed raised a bit more doughy, but not Cresent. Theirs is very much like the old Krispy Kreme...very soft and airy and covered in sugar glaze. They were very good and light. The other offerings were ok, but unremarkable. The chocolate cake was nice, as was the blueberry cake. They had maybe a dozen different offerings, but just half-trays or less of each. The glazed raised on the other hand were in stacked trays...far and away their biggest seller. We will be back for more of those glazed raised delights.

The doughnuts are no better than any other brand. I am bothered by a couple of things. One, their store policies are not customer friendly. There is a sign on the door that says you cannot talk on the phone while ordering. Well, my kids sent me there to buy doughnuts and each has their favorites. So instead of taking the order on the phone and just tell the person what I need, I had to get out of the line and wrote everything down and get back in line again. This is an inconvenience. Two, there are a lot of signs that day you cannot drink or eat anything inside the store. This is not a library. It is a fricking doughnut shop. Three, the cashier, I don't know if he is the owner, looks quite tired and bored with what he is doing. He is blunt and not s smiling or friendly. I asked about the doughnuts he has on the shelf and he got defensive and snappy and he told me they were the same flavor as the one on the shelf in the front, as if I was supposed to know it already and I was not supposed to ask this stupid question. He has some issues and definitely not professional.

Do you like fancy, gluten free, vegan, four dollar a piece donuts served by hipsters? Or do you want 80 cent, incredibly sweet donuts served by surly, hungover townies? Luckily, you can do both in Bloomington. Cresent Donuts is the latter option. Get the yeast and the raspberry filled. Coffee is decent.
(5)Franklin D.
I give up, why is it spelled "cresent"? These taste better than the oddly shaped local competition if you ask me. The young lady who put my donuts in a box on my last visit was so hung over... it was truly amazing.
(3)Amie D.
I used to live right around the corner from this shop and my Saturday morning routine always included a visit here. I loved their donuts and still compare other donut shops to this one! I am a big fan of "mom and pop" donut shops and visit them around the country. The best ones are ones such as this: appear to not have changed since the 50s, 60s, or whenever they opened, limited selection of beverages (i.e. no lattes frappes etc) - and, though some have complained about this, a crabby worker. Yes, the latter part is a given in shops like this! Anyway, when I go back in town I still get a glazed twist and a sour cream/old fashioned. If you go late at night the donuts are often on sale cheap!
(5)Melinda S.
Where else can you get waited on by someone who has kicked the crap out of a couple of teenagers who tried to rob the place?! In all honesty though, these donuts are just as good on Sunday morning at 9 a.m. as they are at midnight on Saturday. I like the large maple glazed cinnamon rolls, the "long johns", raspberry filled and the yeast twist. Honestly, I've yet to meet a donut I didn't like here. It's a great old place, I don't give a crap how the name is spelled and I like combative servers...another Bloomington insitution.
(5)Brittany C.
Delicious, cheap, lots of selection. I went to pick up donuts for a friend's birthday on a late afternoon and they still had a lot of donuts ready. I was afraid they might taste old, but they tasted fresh even the next day. I bought powdered sugar donuts, and raised donuts with chocolate frosting and fall sprinkles. I also got a dozen powdered donuts holes, which were highly addicting. They were loved by all and didn't last long in the kitchen. Definitely a quality place if you want real donuts! I only wish they had a better location, but its worth the drive.

Get one cream donut - it's loaded with deliciousness and you'll be stuffed. After I moved out of Indiana I learned that cream donuts, like breadsticks on the west coast, a rare species. @Jasen F., if you don't like donuts then why are you reviewing a donut shop? @Anthony N., correct, you are not a donut expert @yelp, we need commenting
(5)Nikki P.
My boyfriend hides Cresent Donut treats around the house to enjoy at his leisure. He would prefer that I give the establishment five stars. I would prefer that he get his own Yelp account. Here are the things we mutually like: 24-HOUR DONUTS Weird spelling of crescent (I actually don't like that) Yeast donuts Sometimes bitchy waitstaff (we get off on that kind of mistreatment) T-shirts for sale that feature an anthropomorphized donut eating a donut Here's what I don't like: getting fat off of donuts my boyfriend's food hoarding sketchy location (a little too graveyardy side road for me) Granted, some of the above is not their fault.

24 hour doughnuts? you've got to be kidding me. they must be angels to decide to operate 'round the clock! i mean.. think about it. granted i come from a family that says far away from doughnuts and have had wayy too many dunkin's, i have to say that these, together with krispy kremes (fresh from the frier, NOT from kroger or any gas station) are damn delicious. get with the doughnut holes with powdered sugar first, then the cinnamon sugar. one star off cuz the dough for the cream-filled doughnut was gummy.. 2 hours after i bought it. but 2 bucks gets you 1/2 dozen doughnut holes (you can mix flavors) and the creme-filled chocolate glazed baby.. for real? shit. no wonder cops always get doughnuts for tea/meetings/crime scene investigations. the old guy was nice to me ("if i may say so ma'am, you're looking pretty today"), so i can't say much about the poor service. hah!
(4)Scott M.
Best donuts I have ever put in my mouth. Bar none. I went in at 5am (ugh!) and asked the (very friendly for that time of day) staff to pick a dozen for me. Good decision! The price is more than fair and the quality was quite high. Go now!
(5)Jasen F.
I'm not a donut fan. I think I get the business model though. They bake sugary goods and I buy them for others to eat. I think there's a breakdown with the transactional side of things; the staff must avoid all sugar because they definitely are not sweet. $10 for a dozen of uninspired, average (I tried a few bites...didn't love it), and poorly loved baked goods? Nope, never again. They do accept MC/Visa, at least according to the small decal on their door.
(2)Sarah R.
I'm a fiercely loyal fan of Krispy Kreme doughnuts, but my world was shaken when I came across Cresent Donut. Honestly, I was skeptical. A 24-hour doughnut joint? Come on. Undeniably, this family-owned establishment of pure doughnut magic is the best there is. I didn't find the price too high, and if you go late enough at night (guilty as charged) you can get bulk deals. Does the service come with a plastered-on smile? Well, no. Tip: Go in and decide quickly, and do NOT talk on your cell phone. They're a busy group of people, so you will get the best service if you don't waste their time. My personal favorite: oh, that would be...everything.
(5)Ashley J.
theyre good donuts, if your craving donuts and you cant find donuts anywhere else theyre delicious. lol. they are open 24 hours too, which is a plus.
(3)Karen C.
Just got back from our first visit to Cresent Donuts. For 6pm on a Sunday night, there weren't a whole lot of doughnut options (mostly the frosted rings), but they tasted fresh! DH got a jelly filled one, and while I'm not a fan of the frosted top, it was good. The kids each got their chocolate glazed ring, and it made their nights. I chose a glazed crawler, and it was melt-in-your-mouth perfect. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is for the staff. The man working tonight didn't charge us for the kids' doughnuts or the milk we got for them. It seemed really nice, until he started commenting on how beautiful they are. Then it got creepy. I probably won't eat in the shop again, but I'll definitely do a grab and go for the doughnuts!

Cresent Donut is probably the best donut shop in Bloomington + it's a 24 hour operation (that's crazy). Unfortunately the staff leaves you feeling worthless and borderline suicidal for daring to order something from them and navigate your automobile through their parking lot (2 essentials for them to stay in business). It's a little disturbing that cresent is spelled wrong - I just hope it's a last name (??). In any case, if you can prep yourself for being emotionally abused while ordering donuts this place is a must.
(4)Carman L.
These are THE best donuts. If you've been there, you know who the "rude" staff member is. And I'll admit, I was a little insulted/bothered/confused by her attitude at first. But after a couple of visits, you realize it's just her way. She's now kind of my second favorite part of the Cresent experience. My favorite part is of course the donuts. The raised glazed are perfect. The cream filled are my favorite. If you're bringing home a few for a loved one, get a half dozen cake holes for the drive home. They'll never know. Well, now I know where I'm going for breakfast.
(5)Brandon D.
Talk about limited selection. One small section of the top rack of one display case had donuts in it. Everything else was empty. We drove from Unionville to get donuts because it was advertised to be a 24 hour shop -- it shouldn't be. Wasted trip.
(1)Brianna M.
Great light, fluffy donuts; I like the jelly and cream filled ones. I wish they had more cake varieties. Skip the coffee, tastes like warm water and dirt.
(4)David G.
Awesomist donuts but the staff, not just "that one", are so curt rude and unfriendly!!!! I hate coming here just for that reason alone. Why ZERO Hoosier hospitality??? They are now on my official sh$&tlist...
(2)Pat D.
It must have been a year ago when I stumbled across the place while looking for a gas station. I was hungry, went in and bought a donut. I pulled it out of the bag while I was driving back to my friend's house, and took a bite. I almost crashed the truck, it was so good. The next day on my way out of town, I went back. Glad I don't live there.
(4)Kristyn B.
The donuts were very good, but the service was not. It was our first time and the lady at the counter was rude and not helpful at all.
(4)Moe B.
They have the best donut holes and their twist donuts are the greatest!! You need to get there early for the holes, when they are gone, you have to wait until tomorrow.
(5)Jessica L.
Warm donuts at 0400 is the Universe's way to apologize for Kim Kardashian having a television show. They are so freaking good. Go have some, take cash, and just bliss out on the glazed delicious noms.
(5)Reeder J.
2 words. HIDDEN GEM. I love donuts. I have never found a place that's donuts stay as fresh as Cresent's. I've been here at 9 am 10 at night and 4 in the morning all multiple times. I've never been disappointed. Even if the donuts are a bit picked over Saturday night at 10 and you are forced to try a new one, I am confident you'll enjoy. My man behind the counter will probably hook you up with a fat deal as well. This place is a Bloomington must go, if you graduate from college here and don't eat one of their donuts you are a loser. Plain and simple.
(5)Sandra R.
Bitchy staff. Decent donuts. Can't spell.. Only donut gig in town so, duh, where else you gonna go??
(3)J R.
A really good mom & pop's donut shop. Reminds me of Buckeye Donuts in Columbus.
(4)Tony D.
Best donuts in Bloomington. In fact best donuts anywhere. Be aware however, its cash only and no talking on cell phone when ordering. Bonus tip: Saturday nights (early Sunday mornings) half off.
(4)Katie B.
It's my neighborhood 24-hour doughnut shop! I love that they always have cake doughnuts and that their doughnuts are less sugar loaded than other options in town (don't worry there is still plenty of sugar to be had here). If you come at the right time of day, er... night you might get a super deal on doughnuts like buy one, get one. Great selection.
