Full disclosure. One of the proprietors is a childhood friend from 60 years ago. Being said, the Hobo Hut offers great food, large portions, at a fair price. Not fancy but you won't go hungry or broke. I enjoy the tenderloin and the goeta when we visit Batesville.

Be prepared to lose your day. It's a breakfast/lunch diner with horrifically slow service. Horrifically slow! My husband and I were there for a full hour before our food arrived. They do not take credit cards. Cash only and no warning that they do not accept credit cards. It's beyond greasy spoon comfort food, it's a digestive system hostile take over! The food didn't taste bad, greasy but not bad. It was the hours of digestive distress that makes this place less than appetizing. After spending nearly 2 hours of our morning in this retro nightmare it was a race home, praying to make it to the 'facilities' in time. That's where another 2 hours were wasted. After all that we were both weak and needed a nap so another 2 hours of our precious Saturday gone. In conclusion, I suggest to avoid the Hobo Hut unless you would like to spend the rest of your day wondering if your a victim of food poisoning or have consumed toxic levels of grease.

Great "greasy spoon" experience reminiscent of the 1950's. Good breakfast food, burgers and tenderloins. Fantastic hand dipped ice cream, malts, and milk shakes. Super nice waitress. Much, much better experience than McDonalds.

If you're in a hurry, looking for an upscale atmosphere, or need to use a credit card, skip this one. But if you have some time to enjoy a good cup of coffee while you wait for your meal to be freshly prepared in this quaint, old fashioned diner, you won't be disappointed.

Bring cash...no debit/credit cards. Restroom? Yep, go outside and come in the backdoor, say hi to the cook cuz you're in the kitchen...and plan on an hour because they are a bit slow. Food is ok though
