Staying in Auburn, IN with friends for their granddaughter's christening. Friends suggested that we go to Top Notch for dinner. Although someone posted about this restaurant having a diner atmosphere, we didn't get that at all. It was very warm and welcoming and we were seated almost immediately. (See picture) Our server, Traci was affable, courteous, attentive, all without being intrusive, and brought my coffee (with my meal - as requested). (This is my own little test of waitstaff to see if they can remember my coffee after serving all of the other drinks and meals. I ordered the enchilada soup (endless soup) which was piping hot, delicious and served with a huge helping of tortilla chips. I honestly wasn't sure how to use them. Then I remembered how Jason's Deli in Columbus serves their tortilla soup - with tortilla strips in it. So, that's what I did and it was really good. (See picture) All of the entrées we ordered were such huge portions. I couldn't believe that I ate two bowls of my soup and then attacked my chicken fried steak, corn and baked potato. The chicken fried steak was good. It was crispy on the outside with a tender, moist inside. The cut of the meat was not as thick as I've had or I like, but still quite good. The baked potato was served with my butter and sour cream (I should just apply it topically) and very creamy - not something that had been sitting under a heat lamp. (See picture) Although there are lots of other restaurants in this area of Auburn, IN (Near Quality Inn), I would suggest that you give Top Notch a try. Hopefully Traci will be there for you. I also met the manager, Rich who was also very friendly as I sang the restaurant's and Traci's praises.

Went for lunch, waited almost 5 minutes to be seated. there was guests waiting to be checked out. The place was really busy but only had three people in the dining area working. got to our seats finally and there were several tables that needed cleaned. All three wait staff were just walking around in different sections and nobody really had a clue of who needed what and what tables had the order taken it was just a mess no sense of structure there. Ordered the pork tenderloin it was not that great. It tasted freezer burnt to it like it is set to long in the freezer with ice all over and they just threw it in the fryer, Will not order that again. I actually probably will never come back to this place.

My little sister and fiancé stopped in here to try and have dinner tonight. The sign said "please seat yourself" so, we did. We then proceeded to sit there and wait for 15 minutes while EVERY waitress AND the manager made eye contact with us, gestured at us, and seemed to just completely be denying us service even though only about 5 of their 30+ tables and booths had people at them. They then helped the several people who came in after us while ignoring us further! While sitting there, the waitresses also fumbled 3 different orders for other patrons. We ended up just walking out and eating somewhere else. I've never seen such incompetence and down right rude behavior from people like that-- they are definitely not "top notch".

Went in looking for a Top Notch experience, it wasn't the best, but not horrible either. You get great portions here and they offered a large amount of lunch specials at great prices. The sandwich and hamburger platters came with fries and all you can eat soup which was a nice touch we thought. The only problem was the soup left little to be desired. The chicken enchilada soup seemed like melted off brand government cheese with enchilada seasoning and finger nail size slivers of chicken. We also tried the beef macaroni which was just a vegetable beef soup with macaroni noodles in it. The burgers were decent size but lacking in flavor and seasoning, just a preformed patty thrown on the grill. The best part of the meal was the waitress AJ. Gorgeous girl with a wonderful personality and was quick with a joke and her service as well. She really was the saving grace for this place. Bottom line, I won't go out of my way to come back unfortunately. Just didn't really strike me as a place to come back to in a hurry. Sorry AJ.

Not too bad. Probably won't be my first choice of local restaurants, but I won't go back unless someone I'm with wants to go.

The Top Notch is a diner through and through, even down to the waitress white shirts and black slacks and vests. But the food is good; I tried the popular Fiesta Taco Salad. The searing area is unique in that it's in two parts: dark brick interior and "atrium." Though there are no plants, try to sit in this open and airy spot in the corner of the building. The amount of natural light that comes through is wonderful at dinner time!
