I have been to Richards any number of times now. It seems to draw in the older crowd (70+), but people half that age also patronize it. Generally I've been there for breakfast. I do like their French toast. Portion sizes are generous enough. Service there has always been very attentive and friendly (5 stars for customer service). Today I was there for lunch with my wonderful 88 year old friend (told you it was a hit with the elderly!). She had the strawberry pancakes. Big fat strawberries with a bowl of whipped cream (I liked that they put it on the side). I tried a bowl of the Vegetable Soup---which had MEAT in it. Really?? I hadn't asked if it had meat in it b/c I thought VEGETABLE soup, meant meat-free. It did taste good from the little I had of it. (Just not a big meat in soup fan). Maybe next time I can get it without the carne? As far as the restaurant itself, you can tell it hasn't been renovated/updated in a while. Our bench seat was showing off it's stuffing. If the food is good and the place is clean I can over look cosmetic issues. One idiosyncratic thing I noticed, though, was how LIGHT the silverware is. It felt like a plastic spoon would have weighed more than my "silver" spoon. Certainly falls under cosmetic category, but it sort of reminded me that I was not at an ultra-high end diner. Course the 2 meals (plus one glass of OJ) cost under $8 with tax. . .it certainly ranks well on the affordability list. Ideally I would give it 3.5 stars. It's a decent place to eat for a great price with wonderful service and I continue to go back, so . . .it's at least A-OK.

Dirty restaurant and tables, Slow and irritable service, brought wrong orders, and waitress was no where to be found. We were nearly the only ones in the place at the time, so it's not like they were overwhelmed. Will not be returning.

Good place for a cheap, quick breakfast. Portions are a little small, but the service is still good.

I really like the food here but they need to hire some better servers. Out family of 4 went to the restaurant at 12:30 Saturday afternoon after a funeral. There were only 6 tables, at the most, occupied with no more than 4 people at each. Our 16 year old (I assume) waitress wrote down our order on her pad and came back not 5 minutes later with our salads & coleslaw. Apparently it was 5 minutes too long because she was all confused about who ordered what. My grandfather ordered a dinner that was supposed to have rolls. When I finally got the waitress's attention (which was half way through our meals) I asked her if we could get some rolls, to which she replied "Oh yea" and headed off to the kitchen where I assumed she was going to get rolls for my grandpa. After we finished our meals and chatted for a bit, our waitress arrived back at our table with the rolls. Her comment was something like "oh do you still need these". We were never asked if we wanted desert, which we all wanted. However, by the end of our meal we were annoyed and didn't want to waste Lord knows how long waiting on dumplings. My grandfather, unfortunately, left the server a more than generous tip because he's a generous person. Had it been me, she would have received a penny. This restaurant would have easily received 4 stars had our recent service been better. 1 star had I not had decent (not excellent) service in the past.

Not my cup of tea. No pun intended... Food was probably below average. For breakfast, our placemat was the menu. There was about 10 to 15 choices for breakfast and I chose pancakes with fruit on top of them. It's hard to screw up pancakes, but these definitely were not very good. They were dry, and actually a little bit firm. The blueberries on top were also kind of firm. I believe they were dried out from being frozen. Prices were fairly low, but I would be willing to pay more if the food were better. "Plain" and "boring" is about the best I could describe this restaurant. Absolutely no reason to return

This is a family restaurant and friendly, at least at breakfast. The food is usually good. But, the district manager is cutting back on boiling water for pouched eggs, thinning the gravy. We love the waitresses in the morning. Breakfast is served faster then Bob Evans in Auburn. Menu is limited.

The food is in at a moderate price but the quality is low and the service is lower. Only go here if you're starving.
