The food was good and there was plenty of it. The prices were typical. The staff was really nice, and the place want overly busy for lunch time on a Sunday.

This was my second visit, hoping the service nightmare from first visit was a fluke. Plan on waiting for your food. Don't expect everyone at the same table to get food served at the same time. If you want to pay your bill you have to go to the back and ask to be checked out. Food is pretty good....not worth the price with this service.

Horrible service and burnt steak. We were ignored most of the meal and when we weren't being ignored the server was extremely rude. Our food all came out at different times so we had to eat in shifts, which was not enjoyable. I would never spend another dime here. They also got parts of our order wrong and over charged us. When I brought it to the severs attention she laughed about it and walked away. We even attempted to be friendly and conversational with our waitress in the hopes that it would change her attitude. Honestly, we should have just gotten up and left after she practically threw our menus at us when we were first seated. It was only downhill from there. She mean-mugged us throughout the meal, laughed when we had complaints, and when my boyfriend went to ask for boxes at the end of the meal, she rolled her eyes and said something along the lines of "You really need that many boxes?" She never asked if our food was ok or if there was anything she could do to improve our experience there. She was actually downright hostile the entire time. I noticed another reviewer commented that he got into a fight with a waitress because she was being disrespectful. I would bet money that this is the same woman. She is going to lose this place a lot of business.

Very disappointed with the fajita meal. No flavor, three times more veggies then meat. They forgot the salad along with giving the wrong shells. We also ordered the shrimp and garlic dinner. No garlic flavor and beans were dried out. Payed way too much for this!

So glad to have a new restaurant on the square. They appear to be going through some opening pains; Doors weren't open at 9 when they should have been for breakfast. So we went back for lunch which was really good. The prices are low ($4.99 for a burrito) and the food is very flavorful. My wife and I both had the steak burrito, the waitress wasn't sure what was in them and it doesn't say on the menu. For the record it is your ordered meat, lettuce, tomato, cheese, re-fried beans and a slice of avocado. The steak is very flavorful and the wife liked how it was sliced in small pieces. Each came with a small salad, beans and rice. Our daughter had the quesadilla, which was loaded with cheese and was good, but who can't make a quesadilla? The chef/cook brought some braised pork shoulder to our table to try which was wonderful. I'll get it next time i come in. The interior of the restaurant has no changes from the way it was when it was ABC for a few weeks. The tables are a little close together. If you are eating in you seat yourself and they wait on you, but there is no signage to let you know this, so it is a little awkward when you come in because they have a counter and cash register at the back. The service is nice and friendly but she seemed new to the service industry, which is fine as everyone has to start somewhere, but drinks should be served in or with glasses of ice not just cans, you should know the menu like the back of your hand, and the entire tables food should be brought at the same time. Taqueria La Placita has potential if they get through some of these opening pains, I'll definitely be going back to try more of that pork shoulder. One side note, in the bathroom there is a sign saying not to put toilet paper in the toilet bowl!?!? My wife confirmed that the ladies had the same note. I'm hoping it is a translation problem and mean paper towels, but i can't imagine they mean that, unless they are having some real plumbing problems, which if that is the case, get them fixed ASAP.

Eww. This was absolutely the worst mexican food I've had. I'm certain that the rice and beans (which came 5 minutes after I was done eating my bland cartilage/gristle chicken fajitas) came from a can. It was the worst service I've seen in a restaurant ever because the servers were too focused on the latest episode of Telenovelas (I'm not kidding!) I was excited to try a new restaurant in woodstock but left feeling so disappointed- and violated having spent $25 on two cold, tasteless, barely edible dishes.

This place was great! The waitress and the manager, maybe he was the owner, were very attentive. I got a chimichanga with tinga chicken. It was so flavorful and large. I also got a tamale. That was perfect too. I'm so glad we tried this place out. I'm shocked at the bad reviews. Maybe they are trying to improve from the poor service reviews.

First-visit review: Waiter took care of others who came in after us - weird. Nice enough guy though, once he came over. Nice selection of authentic and what I would call Americanized Mexican foods, though I couldn't put my finger on anything particularly unauthentic. You can get y'er lingue, tripe and what-not if you really, really want it, but not if you're sitting by me! ... JK. Had a steak burrito. Having had this in dozens of different places it's a good go-to for comparison sake. Plenty of flavorful steak, nice fixin's inside including avocado, which I wouldn't have ordered, and it's often "extra" elsewhere, but it was appreciated. Beans and rice on the side were ... unremarkable. On the other hand, it's beans and rice, does it have to be good enough to feature in a TV show or something? Friend had the same order, liked the beans and rice even less than I did. Both of us saved half to take home as the portions were generous enough to do so. Pay at the cashier. In all a good option for basic Mexican food. If you want fancier there are a couple of places in Woodstock that do that, but this is a fine choice for lunch or dinner (I'm guessing breakfast too, but forgot to check).

There are many great Mexican food places in Woodstock, but this is one of my favorite. They have a great authentic atmosphere and food. Their chimichangas are to DIE FOR!! They are almost a foot long and are only $8. My sister and I split one and still couldn't finish. They have great salsa and chips. Waiters are very nice. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND

The good: Delicious food. The bad: horrible service. The waitress came back and checked on me one time. After that, she ignored me and put closing duties as first priority. I had to call her over to ask for a refill. I'm on a budget and live paycheck to paycheck, so every penny counts. I added my order up and it should have been around $8. And they don't give you a check. They just add it up at the register and don't tell you what you're paying for, so my $8 order somehow turned out to be $11 and change, close to $12. After I brought it up, she said that sour cream on the side is 70 cents, when it's listed at .33. According to her, .33 is to add it on, but it's extra to have it on the side. I told her that if I had known that, I would have just gotten it on the taco. Refills are .50, also not listed on the menu. I felt robbed leaving because they found ways to charge me almost 3 extra dollars. They also give you chips and salsa when you first sit down. I wonder if they charge you for that, even if you didn't order it. The door says they're open until 10. They locked the door, turned off the tv, and started putting chairs on the tables around me at 9:30. I felt rushed out. The food is great, but that's not enough to keep me as a patron. Good luck when you become another episode of Restaurant Impossible.

Food is decent, but the service ruins the experience - just lousy. Overall kind of pricy, won't be going back!

Good Mexican food on the square. This is a vegetarian friendly restaurant.

The food is never good unless the main chef is there, which you're lucky if he's there. Otherwise what you'll get is food that you wish you didn't buy or eat. The main chef really makes the food well, though.

The food is better quality but it's still missing something. Maybe they need better employees.

Slow Service on an empty restaurant. When they finally gave us our food, the cashier had to run for us at the door, he said they forget to give us my burrito. Then my friend asked for some "chiles en vinagre" she first told us $1.99, then she must of though my friend was a fool and changed the price to $4.99, for a small sandwich bag worth. Those type of "chiles" are usually complimentary in other higher-en restaurants like "Los Comales". When we got home with our food (10 tacos and a burrito dinner) we noticed they didn't give us any forks for the burrito dinner and only gave us 3 salsas for 10 tacos. Long story short we should had gone to Taco Bell..

I picked up some tacos to go last night (steak, tongue, and ribeye). They were prepared fresh and came with four different salsas / hot sauces and limes. Everything tasted good. They also had a handful of specials for Lent which is nice to see. Next time I'll try dining in. It's good to see a restaurant back in this building.

I enjoyed today's lunch every bit as much as the one last week. Every week I'm going to try something new. A large group was a little on the noisy side, but they were having fun, and that's what this place is. It's bright, airy, clean, inviting. The food is good; the service is good; the prices are reasonable. The TV was either turned down or off - didn't even notice it today. It's wonderful to see many people eating here. Bring your friends. Let's keep this place in business.

This restaurant was a typical taqueria: like ones I've been to before. The inside is just tables and a TV or two, nothing special. I had the chicken tacos and they were quite good. The only downside of this place was that the service wasn't the best. I would definitely recommend this place for good, quick Mexican food for take-out though.

I wish Yelp allowed half stars. I actually give this place 2.5 stars. My husband and I tried this place for lunch. Prices are great for the portion size. Sauces are good. I ordered 2 steak tacos and they looked good, but they were dry. Really dry, even with lime squeezed over them. My husband ordered chorizo tacos and said it was tasty but really really greasy. Maybe we will give it another whirl later on to see if it was just a off day.

Completely awful. I started a yelp account today after eating here because it was that bad. Nothing lasts in Woodstock, even more so on the square so when there is a new business we try to support local merchants. Went there today for lunch and everything was horrendous. Pros: Ice cold bottled water Lots of seating Cons: The service is miserably bad, we were seated by a nice lady then a younger girl eventually came over to wait on us. She was very disinterested, didn't know the menu, didn't understand ordering appetizers, and would turn around to watch tv The food is bad, really bad. The chips make bag chips look gourmet, when we eventually did get our order, we were really disappointed. We got ribeye tacos, a torta Cubana, rice/beans and a ham quesadilla thing,(they have it at La Trinidad and its fantastic. Nothing had flavor, nothing at all. The steak was dry and flavorless, obviously frozen. The milenesa on the sandwich was coated in uncooked flour. Our charming waitress, who when someone asked for two ground beef tacos have them lengua(tongue) finally came around and eventually we got a check. Not worth wasting your time, go to Taco Bell first or any of the quality mexican restaurants in the area. La Trinidad, El Niagra, Mixteca and Fas Taco are all in the same town and so substantially better its not even funny. It'll be out of business soon, they have awful service and a worse product

Waited 45 minutes with only two other tables. Service was horrible. I am not a very picky eater and have eaten thousands of Asada tacos over the course of my life. These are about the worst I have ever had. The chicken tacos are composed of large chunks of chicken parts. The tacos al pastor (my favorite kind) was overpowered by the tortilla. It takes one weak taco to not be able to taste the fillings over the corn tortilla. Had high hopes for this place, being just around the corner from my house. There are several good taco joints in Woodstock, leave this one alone. PS: In 38 years this is the first restaurant review I have ever written. The food was simply that bad I felt it my civic duty to warn others to stay away from this poor excuse for a taqueria.

Tongue tacos are always a hit. Tender, moist , beefy deliciousness... You can't miss with the pastor either.

Please don't pay attention to the older reviews. The restaurant must have listened and made changes because I've eaten here twice and have not noticed any chemical smell, the chicken I've had on my tacos, in a burrito, and in a quesadilla, was always fresh, moist white meat. Everything I"ve had was fresh and tasty. The beans are not my favorite style of re fried beans, but they're still alright. I just took my fiance, who is a picky eater there, and he loved it! I welcome this place and will most definitely be back!

I really hate to leave this review because I haven't actually eaten there. We have attempted to go in twice for lunch, but opened the door to the overwhelming smell of CLEANING SUPPLIES and CHEMICALS. I just can't stomach it.

Convenient and reasonably priced. I've had the La Placita tacos, tamales, quesadillas. The tortilla chips and salsa are good. The place is surprisingly busy. The menu is hard to read as it is mostly in spanish, but the food seems authentic so we like it. Went there one time and have been back about four times in the past week. They definitely need to up their staff at lunch time and to handle the heavy traffic they will get on big dates. Very happy to see them doing well. :)

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
