Great restaurant with city vibe in the burbs. Wish there were more places like this! Place gets quite packed on Friday and Saturday evenings and they don't take reservations.

I really REALLY wanted to like Trifecta. The location is awesome, the decor is super chic and very urban. Like the other reviewers mentioned, it has a downtown vibe - much needed cool wine bar on the North Shore. I liked the wine dispenser - didn't try it only because there weren't enough "different" wines that i wanted to try. The service was chaotic and I can't fault them too much because about 10 mins after we were seated, a huge rainstorm passed thru and sent everyone on the patio scattering inside. So we were ignored until the chaos ended, had to ask for water (!!) and drinks. Our server was really young, really unexperienced, didn't offer any suggestions - definitely not someone who should be waiting on tables. The menu was diverse and looked good - but we were really disappointed with the food. The short rib app: short rib was good but the polenta was stiff and excruciatingly salty. Yech. We ordered the "white pizza" - and the crust was like a frozen pizza, cardboard-ish. And damn, we wanted to like the pizza. (I'll stick to Union in Evanston for pizza on the north shore!)The lobster ravioli was excellent and we wished we ordered a larger portion - very good! The Trifecta Sliders were meh. The only one that was good was the lamb slider. Short rib slider was really dry and the sirloin was overcooked. I hope the service and the food issues are just growing pains, because it really is a nice space and concept on the North Shore.

A great new addition to winnetka! fun spot great staff and the food is pretty good! this will make it for sure! the wine bar is fantastic!

This is Winnetka??!! The sky high heels to sweater set ratio would have convinced me, if I didn't know differently, that I was in the city on a Saturday night. Great bar action, great lighting, and just a bit too loud for comfortable talking. The food was terrific, too. Lots of choice, good price points, and a good cocktail menu. Didn't try the Wine dispensers, but will certainly do so on another visit. Raves for the Greek Pizza -- the lemony tanginess of the arugula amply sprinkled over feta, red onions and kalamata olives on a perfect thin crust leaves me craving to go back. Get there early if you don't want to wait a long time for a table -- no reservations!

Trifecta was everything I had hoped for and more! I can't wait to go back after having my bridal shower here last month. Since the restaurant is closed during the day, we got a completely private event on a Sunday morning with servers who paid such great attention to detail and anticipated our needs perfectly. The decor is modern and chic. The chicken lollipops and short rib were amazing! The pizzas were delicious and the chocolate mousse cake was the best I've ever had. I can't wait to go back to try some of the fun cocktails and taste different wines from the machines. I recommend Trifecta to anyone planning a party, you won't be disappointed!

I've been twice, once on a Saturday night and once on a Thursday night. Good food. Great menu. However, small portions, bad value and worst of all SO LOUD you can't even have a conversation. Maybe I'll go back for lunch, but not for dinner and certainly not with another couple.
(3)Lester A.
PASS ONTHIS! The food was good but the service could not have been worse! The only thing that was prompt was the water and the check. The food really was good but we should never have looked at the watier and after an hour told him that he had not taken our dinner order yet. IT WAS APPARENT THAT NOBODY CARED IF WE HAD SERVICE OR NOT. WE WERE A PARTY OF 8 AND NONE OF US WILL RETURN. THIS IS NOT THE O'NEILS THAT I KNOW.

Trifecta Grill is a solid choice for a simple night out. The vibe in the winter is a little different than the summer when the place tends to be overrun with young mothers on "girls night out." The space is well designed - hard to find on the North Shore. The food runs the gamut from excellent (the papardelle, sliders, shorty and brussel sprouts) to good (most pizzas and salads) to not good (ceviche and lobster roll). They offer a great cheese plate - highly recommend that. Service, as some have noted, is compromised given they hire young kids. Friendly, but not particularly competent. You just have to roll with it.

Can't speak on the food, we just went for a drink but wow! Eve was great and made our experience amazing! Will definitely return! We loved the help yourself wine bar, what a great concept! City meets burbs..

It was a beautiful summer evening when I last dined at this establishment with a few friends. The outdoor space was lovely, the weather perfect and the food consistently good. Unfortunately the server was inattentive and rude. The restaurant may need to increase the amount of staff on board for the busier times. Our server seemed to be overwhelmed and took it out on us...maybe on other tables of diners as well. I haven't been back since (and had previously eaten there at least 1/2 a dozen times) and would recommend the restaurant for the food and the ambiance..just beware of the service.
(2)David B.
Dined at Trifecta Grill on a gorgeous evening in their beautiful outdoor dining room. The setting could not have been better, unfortunately the service and food was lacking. It took a long time just to place and receive our drink order. Our food order took forever to arrive and some of the order never showed up. Our pizza was undercooked and the middle portion was inedible. We were never asked if we wanted a 2nd drink, dessert or anything else for that matter. Hopefully we just caught them on a bad night, as both the waitress and manager were apologetic.

This place was just what the doctor ordered. We actually arrived at the restaurant by accident, thinking that it was the door to the restaurant adjacent where we had reservations. From the get-go we were welcomed and treated like old cherished repeat customers. The service was exceptional. The waitress was friendly and extremely helpful. What can I say about the food and the wine? It was wonderful. My companion had a beautiful marinara dish and I had a seafood delicacy. The wine was recommended by the waitress and she certainly knew her stuff. This is definitely a restaurant that we will not hesitate to recommend. We were so impressed that we had the manager come over and extolled our compliments on the ambience, service and the terrific food.
(5)Rebecca G.
Fabulous night out with friends. Trendy, Good Drinks, Fabulous Food and Service. Cucumber Martini was amazing and Bistro Steak out of this world. Out waiter was very patient and attentive to our needs. Restaurant could use some sound deadening but overall a fantastic place to try with friends.
(5)David J.
I came in with a young lady a couple of weeks ago and, despite there only being one bartender and two servers on that night, we had the best service I've had in a long time. The bartender, Mike, was a pro in every sense of the word. The Lamb Burger was delicious, the tots were better than the burger, and Mike's old fashioned was incredible. I'm telling you, that kid knows his way around a bar.
(5)Matt R.
Well now that's customer service for you -- within only a few hours of writing my review, I got an email from the manager apologizing for my less than satisfactory experience. That alone speaks volumes about Trifecta. Any place that concerned about customer satisfaction is worth another shot. Keep you posted.

We just moved to Winnetka from the city, and wow.. This place is awesome!! We were looking for some good restaurants near by, and this place has to be our favorite. It's trendy, friendly and delicious. We walked in and were immediately greeted by very nice hostesses and servers, grabbed a carry out/delivery menu and ordered delivery that very night. The food and service were phenomenal, our initial worry was it wouldn't be kid friendly for our younger ones, but the Average Joe and White pizza were perfect for them. My wife and I got the sweet ginger salmon, lobster cakes and sirloin burger.. It's safe to say we're hooked. Will definitely order again, it arrived fast and hot! Also a great looking feel inside the restaurant, we can't wait to go back! Highly recommend!!
(5)Bob H.
Good food with contemporary & modern feel in the restaurant. The "vibe" makes you feel like you're in Chicago, but really just in Winnetka. Outside seating is ample and nice on a summer evening. Extensive bar list (including wine tasting "kiosks" in the back which is fun). Definitely order a few different things on the menu to "share". Pizzas, fish, sides, & sliders all were really good. Definitely in our rotation when we wnat to have a "fun night out" but not have to take the Metra to go all the way downtown Chicago!
(5)Jenny F.
I wanted to give this place high mark! After all, they brought the cool, hip, downtown vibe in my 'hood. They have a terrific outdoor space for when the weather is warm and a pit fire for those cool spring or autumn nights! The ambiance is sassy, the decor sexy. It ends here! The food is disappointingly so, so. I think their menu is confused. What exactly is their specialty? Pizza? Grilled items? There was nothing grilled they were serving. Fish on the menu tends to be prepared sautéed. Or do they dish up Tapas style served trifecta? Hmmmm..... On my not up to scratch birthday dinner spent here, I thought for sure they cannot mess up the peach cobbler they have on their menu. WRONG. They served it soupy! It was a soup cobbler! I say, they invest in a good chef who would create an innovative menu to match what they have going with their space! Their menu needs a delicious identity!

We visited Trifecta this past Saturday. Since I didn't have dinner, I'm only reviewing the 21+ club that's located in the back. There were 27 self service wine machines that operate in a way where you buy a "debit" card and you choose if you'd like to purchase a taste, a half glass or a full glass. I was quite pleased with the selection as they had my favorite white (Sancerre) and my favorite red (Melville Pinot Noir). The hostess recommended her favorite white which was meh - we tried it because she was raving about it it but later my bf pointed out that it was the most expensive wine of the 27 so she might have been looking to make a buck. The wine bar seems like a place to start an evening and then go...nowhere. I mean, it's Winnetka. The crowd is what you'd expect but I will say that it's probably the hippest place in the area. The stool chairs are squishy and comfortable. We started with $20 and didn't refill our card because we could see how you could spend a fortune tasting the wine. It was a fun experience and I'll probably be back to have dinner in the outdoor area one of these days.
(3)Amy A.
My experience was great. The staff (ALL OF THEM) were friendly and helpful. The food was priced well and amazing. We had the steak, tacos (ended up with a trio plate), and chopped salad. The vibe of the place was hip, the music was not too loud, and they only take reservations for parties of 6 or more. So plan accordingly. My only recommendation would be, that the waitress could have directed us towards the Trio options, were you get more bang for your buck- and the chance to try more of their great food! We will be back for sure.
(5)Doug D.
One of our favorite places to walk to for dinner in Winnetka. The staff is friendly and fun. The food and wine is always great. The new "shrimp and lobster cake" dish is simply amazing.
(5)Victoria H.
If you are from Winnetka or the surrounding suburbs you have probably heard a lot about Trifecta. You have probably already been. You will probably continue to go since the options in Winnetka are pretty limited. Trifecta has a unique downtown vibe which makes it a nice addition to the other suburban restaurants. To be honest, it tries a little too hard for me. The cocktails are good, there is definitely a variety. Any sweet sounding drink tends to be very sweet. Trifecta is a nice spot for a night out. A little over priced for its "downtown" vibe. Despite good interior decorating you are still eating across the street from with Winnetka Post Office :) In the summer, their garbage is right around the corner from their front outside eating so it can get a little smelly and lots of bees...just a heads up!
(3)Mark N.
We had a wonderful night tonight. Love so much about this place. In the north shore it is hard to come across an establishment that blends the urban environment with the suburb demographic. The atmosphere is unsurpassed, and the service is typical (what we expect) for a needy overly demanding clientele as the north shore "demands" but it was stellar. We all ordered the Mexican pizza (but I must say Viccino's Pilsen pizza was a little bit better), the "Trifecta" of fries, the lobster roll, trio of sliders, and a Popeye salad. All was good, but the atmosphere made the entire evening. My only major critique was the lack of a varied beer list. I being a "unique" beer drinker, miss the variety and the Goose Island trio isn't gonna cover it! I need some La Fin Du Monde and Delerium! The bartender Stephanie did stand out though as her pride in her workplace showed! We will be back soon!
(4)Brett H.
Great Winnetka addition. I hope I get a facebook post or email when the "Wine-Vending" Machine is finally up with the go-ahead from the Village. Fun, Creative Cocktails, fun menu with the same creative flair. The service must have been honed considerably as we did not have any issues close to the other reviews. Was too cold for the patio last night, but it looks like it will be the place to hang in d'town Winnetka. For design nuts...check out the lights all over!

my friends have been talking about trifecta for awhile and i finally went in last week. it was a wednesday night and we waited about 20 minutes to get seated. not bad - especially since we got a drink at the bar. i cannot believe this place use to be a dumpy restaurant. it looks amazing now! i love the lounge area outside and the bar has a great set up. i didn't make my way to the back, but heard the back patio is nice. we ordered the sliders, trio fries, beet salad and fondue. everything was delicious! the trio fries are the cutest darn things - loved the presentation. the sliders - perfection. the fondue is nice, but would be better in a fondue pot - came in a ramekin. lost me a little at that. a great restaurant on the north shore - yes, it's in winnetka, can you believe it? heavy on the winnetka crowd - lucky for me, i don't live in winnetka. still a nice crowd and the staff was attentive. definitely go - would be a good spot for a girls/guys night.

It's always refreshing to walk into a restaurant in the middle of suburbia and feel like you've stepped into a funky, chic, hi-energy city spot. Trifecta Grill, smack dab in the middle of Winnetka, does just that, and that's just the beginning. We had to wait awhile as it was a Friday night and they only take reservations for parties of 8 or more. No biggie...It gave us time to hang out in the bar and enjoy a cocktail and some great people watching. The martini menu offers so many interesting combinations, I had a hard time deciding what to try. Maybe it was all in the name, but I went with the Effen Ugli...yum! We were seated in the back room, the "21 Club", which is where the wine preserving system is situated. It's a bit quieter than the main front room but equally as hip and happening. The menu has a lot of fun and interesting options with different size portions for sharing, tasting, etc. The veggie pizza was just the way I like...thin, crispy crust loaded with a variety of grilled veggies. The grilled chopped salad was outstanding. Even the lettuce was grilled yet it wasn't soggy as could be expected. The Hawaiian ahi tuna, while fairly basic, was fresh and tasty. The tilapia tacos are fantastic but beware of the heat factor. For dessert, we tried the dark chocolate fondue. Great choice although could have used a tad more chocolate! Definitely looking forward to heading back to Trifecta. The patio looks amazing and I would like to check out the wine selection.

My husband and I go into the city weekly, so we are very familiar with the top restaurants in Chicago. We had high hopes that there might be a hip, city-like restaurant in the suburbs. The decor is fun, and we were ready to have a great time- we went with a fun group, ordered lots of food and drinks, only to be greeted by the owners wife, 2.5 hours into our meal, to tell us they needed the table and we needed to leave. Never-mind, the fact that some of us still had full drinks and were still ordering more. I have NEVER been pushed out of a restaurant so abruptly and rudely to accommodate another table. We are all from Winnetka and they have lost all of our business and we will make sure to tell our friends to not support such an establishment. And to top it off- the food was just mediocre at best!
(1)Thomas K.
Excellent, well prepared and interesting food. Service was half-assed at best. Snooty attitude when i called about reservations; long wait for wine after ordering--the folks who came after us were served first; waitress was confused--as were other waiters--got food mixed up at several tables; charged for things not ordered--took no responsibility for errors---a consistent pattern through the evening.
(2)Erin K.
We were brought to this restaurant by another couple and were pleasantly surprised. It was like a hip downtown place in the middle of the burbs:) We loved the Wine vending machines as well as all the food was excellent! Will for sure come back!
(5)Ronald D.
We had plans to go out last night, Saturday January 26th. It was to be 9 of us. The other couples had all been to Trifecta, at least once. We arrived at 7:30 and were sat immediately. This is always a good sign! The waiter took our drink orders. I felt the pace was good. The nine of us had not been together for a long time, so we were not in a hurry to eat. We order several appetizers. The pizza, with sausage, really good. The ceviche and the tater tots also very good. For dinner the menu proved to be what everyone was looking for, as the nine of us ordered a wide variety of items. Among the items ordered were the wedge, tacos, a couple of salads, and the salmon. I had asked the manager and also the waitress ( who did a great job throughout) what they would recommend. Both said the short rib. So based on that two of us ordered the short ribs. They were fabulous! Tender, full of flavor and the sauce was outstanding! This was a flavorful and filling dish. The chocolate cake was outstanding. The cobbler was also very good. The restaurant has a very good vibe/feel. You do feel like you are in the city. It is great to have this type of place with this type of food in the suburbs. The design is really attractive. The music being played was also nice for the mood of the place. We will definitely be back, and bring others. While the menu may appear to some as being narrow, I find it to be very well designed. There are several choices in various categories. It is nice to see a clean simple well executed menu. The menu is actually presented in an attractive fashion. It is on a single page on top of a hard silver board. I really think that this restaurant does a lot of things right. A great addition not only to the suburbs but to the vibrant restaurant scene in Chicago. I look forward to returning!
(5)Lynne H.
We wanted to stay for dinner, but the service was so bad that we left after one cocktail each.......by the way, the cocktails came 15 minutes apart for our party of two. We asked 2 different servers how the wine bar worked, and they both said we had to ask someone else to find out. Eventually, we found the wine bar attendant, and she said the table servers aren't supposed to know about the wine because they're under 21. Then why are they serving cocktails!!?!?!?? I give it 2 stars because the room is very cool.....sleek and modern. Also, the self pour wines look interesting, once you ask the right person!
(2)Bernie D.
The food was great but the service was terrible. Not real attentive to us as customers, mixed up orders a couple of times, charged for a glass of wine not ordered, didnt open bottle of wine at table (we had to do it ourselves) and never once acknowledged errors. Should work on customer service
(1)Jenny B.
My new favorite North Shore hangout, especially now that the 21 Club is open! I've gone 3 times already since they opened and it just keeps getting better and better. The atmosphere is great- I felt like I was enjoying a night out in the city. On my first visit, we tried the white pizza, popeye salad, and cobbler dessert. Food was a little pricey, but all very tasty and well worth every penny. I've also tried the Short Rib app, as well as the Chipotle Chicken Lollipops-- both were delicious. I've had great service each time I've been there- very knowledgeable, friendly, and prompt. Already looking forward to my next visit!
(4)Ashley B.
We went on Thursday night and sat outside. Had a few appitizers to start out. Main dishes were also fabulous with more than enough to eat. Service was excellent and prompt. We liked it because there were not a lot of kids running around like many North Shore places. I wore jeans and a golf shirt and felt a little under dressed, but still fit in. Was also fun people watching and listening to the two ladies next to us talk about everyone that walked in. We will be back. I have read the other reviews on service and don't quite agree. It is new and still working to satisfy everyone which is a difficult task in this community where I live. Great job and keep up the good work, you have added value to the community.
(5)T H.
Huge fan of this place. Great concept, great wine, great food and an awesome outdoor patio. One of the most fun places to eat on the North Shore.
(5)Abby K.
Food was good, the outdoor area was great -- although a super long wait to sit outside. The bar area is very cool and hip -- not your typical suburban spot. Their fries are so yummy, and they came with this dill dipping sauce, which was great! I ordered a shrimp mango salad that was delicious. Will definitely go back again.
(4)Kristina K.
I really like this place. I like it alot. First off they have a very cool decor, trendy and inviting but not overboard. I am also a sucker for orange and gray together...bias alert. My friend and I came sunday night. She had been here before and wanted me to try it out. Well I am glad I did. We were the only brave souls that sat outside in the patio. It was a bit chilly but they turned on the fire pits for us. Fire pit +bottle of wine= warmth. All good. The inside was packed but the outside wasn't. I am ok with that, as I have noticed that the older I get the less I like people in my aura. Especially the pretentious onces from Winnetka. For the food I decided to listen to my fellow yelpers and try the tri fries. I didnt care for them. They were very blah to me. The sauces were fun but I wonder what the ingredients were. Two of them looked like they had some sort of mayo base to them. Didnt strike me as healthy. I got the popeye salad and my friend got the shorty. I loved my salad and my friend's short ribs. Yes I did reach and stuck my fork in her plate. Sharing is caring, no? The meat was so tender and so well seasoned and my salad was really good but seemed really boring after I tried the ribs. Delish! The one thing I am going to say tho, is that the service wasn't the best. Once our server did realize that it was her table she did do a good job but I shouldn't have to wait 15 mins for a server. I get that they were rearranging the patio after a private party but still the restaurant was open and customers were there and they were hungry. Next time I go I plan on utilizing the wine dispensers. I am intrigued. Overall a great place to go on a date. I am excited to return.
(4)Gary S.
Have to give this 5 stars for the lobster ravioli and the ceviche Had a couple glasses of wine very good but pricey
(5)Jen J.
food fine, not great. server brought fondue with spoons. when we asked for forks we got blank stares. server didn't take the hint that hubby and I were having a personal conversation and kept interrupting. overall, meh.
(2)Roger M.
Enjoyed the casual outdoor setting. Split the romaine salad with a tasty caesar dressing and the darn good lobster roll with my date. The roasted brussel sprouts that we chose for a side with the roll was awesome.
(4)L G.
We eat here a lot and the food is always pretty good. My only "gripe" if you want to call it that is I'd love to have some more variety with the menu because we eat here so often. The menu has literally been the same since they opened a few years ago. That is the only part I wish was different but otherwise always great food and service here.
(4)Andrea B.
Love this local hidden gem. Came here for dinner a few nights ago and we got to sit outside which is a plus for the great weather we've been having. This was my second visit (I came for the first time maybe 2 years ago) and boy was it as good as the first time. I had a summer cocktail-watermelon mojito. It was refreshing and not to sweet so for me it was the perfect summer beverage. We also over ordered of course but here are a few of my recommendations: Tri fries- I can't say no to French fries and they come paired 3 fries and 3 dipping sauces one more delicious than the other Average joe pizza- Yum!!!! Tilapia tacos- not bad but a little bland for my taste Lobster roll- really good but I don't like celery so I had to pick around it Mango salad- just ok (I'm not a fan of celery) Pappardelle pasta- my brother loved it Steak- my personal favorite and bursting with flavor
(4)Tamir G.
The good: Ambiance and outdoor patio seating The average: The food is nice but not like others claim it to be for foodies. Drinks are just ok. The bad: Slow service.
(3)Jessica L.
The menu had a nice variety of options. The atmosphere is trendy-intimate but cozy. Very much a "foody" place. Food is appealing in appearance but flavor is not the most interesting. People watching is a must here, as it is anywhere in the North Shore.
(4)VC C.
Last nite my wife and sister in law went for drinks at 5:30, no one in the place. After $70 of drinks and appetizers, they decided to stay for dinner and reserved a table for 4 at 6:45. Because the rain slowed traffic coming out of the city, I asked her if she could make the reservation for 7:15. She was told 'no problem'. When we got there we were told at the front check-in there was no reservation because we were "Walk-Ins". They had given our table away and did NOTHING to get us to stay. Our family have been residents in Winnetka for 25 years and we've done our part to support Pat O'Neal by dining at Trifecta, Little Ricky's, and O'Neals, but no longer. Sorry Pat, but we won't get burned again, and unfortunately will tell anyone about this experience who asks.
(1)Christy L.
My boyfriend lives a couple of blocks from Trifecta Grill so we've ended up here a few times for drinks and/or dinner. I am a fan of the wine menu and the ambiance. It has a great cozy feeling with warm service. The patrons make for interesting people watching (some women probably haven't moved their foreheads in years). The food is hit or miss. My favorite dish is the ceviche, but I've been less impressed with other food, especially the burgers which have a weird seasoning. I'd recommend having a few appetizers and pre-dinner drinks here and then heading elsewhere.
(3)Judd H.
This is actually 2.5 stars. There are some nice aspects of this place which compel me to round up. Pros: Really cool decor. For an owner who throws nickels around like manholes (thanks coach), it looks like he spent some money on the buildout. And, really good job. Notwithstanding the other comments below, the decor and vibe are great. Pretty good drink menu. They spent some time thinking about their drink menu and it shows. Portions - for what is basically a tapas place, there are a bunch of plates where you get a bunch of food. And, I don't think I have ever had anything bad there. Cons: Service - probably the worst service I have experienced at a place on the north shore since I moved back in the early 2000s. And, it is not only the average/sort of above average servers fault. Basically, they understaff the place some times and everyone suffers. I subscribe to the one ounce rule - when your drink is at one ounce, the server should offer you another drink. At this place, the rule seems like the zero ounce + 10 minutes rule. Pretty weak. No draft beer - all of the oneills restaurants do not serve draft beer. This is code for "we are cheap asses". With craft beer being the rage, get with the program. No Amex - seriously? How cheap are you ?
(2)Laura T.
I did not feel like cooking the other night and I was sick of my usual take-out places, so I called down to Trifecta Grill for something different. The chicken chipotle lollipops & lobster ravioli were delicious! Service was quick, friendly, and efficient. This is a great place to go for drinks as the selection is extensive, but it does tend to get busy most nights, so make sure you plan ahead!
