The kids worked up quite an appetite during an afternoon at Growth Spurts* so my friends and I decided it was time for dinner...and headed down the block to JP's. . I have no doubt "JP" was thrilled to see our 6 rambunctious children, but fortunately there wasn't anyone else in the restaurant to bother at 5:30pm. We found a large table and locked the 3 pre-schoolers in thanks to a bench. Who needs high chairs? Actually we needed those for our toddlers. We ordered a large cheese pizza for all the kids and an order of buttered noodles for one of the toddlers at the table. The pizza came out relatively fast...and very hot. Once it cooled down the kids dug in and seemed very happy with their thin crust cheese pizza. I stole a few bites myself here and there. While not the best pizza I've ever had, I'd order it again. I do love myself some thin crust! My son was also a big fan of his friend's buttered noodles. He enjoyed so many that we thought about placing a second order for them. The highlight of the meal (for the kids, definitely not the adults) was the ice cream freezer they attacked for dessert. My daughter went crazy over a sponge bob popsicle with gumballs as eyes that died her lips blue for days. She's STILL talking about that popsicle a week later! Before leaving the kids enjoying playing chase around the spacious restaurant (again, I'm sure "JP" loved us). By then a few customers had walked in so we rounded up the troops and headed home for bedtime. There are so many great kid friendly pizza places (Barnabys** for one) in the North Shore that I wouldn't go out of my way to head back to JPs, but would certainly come back for thin crust pizza and a sponge bob popsicle when back in the area. * yelp.com/biz/growth-spur… ** yelp.com/biz/barnabys-of…

First timer here. ... No bad. Ordered a meatball sandwich and a salad. They were served together. The salad is decent size, considering it's a "side". The bread is tasty and the meatballs were average. The cheese was melted fresh, so all in all, I'd have this again.

DO NOT ORDER YOUR FOOD HERE! Let me tell you why. I am a minor and I ordered food from this establishment. Not only did the delivery man harass me by making an inappropriate comment, he entered my house UNINVITED and walked all the way into my dining room. I did not permit him to come inside let alone into my living space. The food was stale tasting and awful as well. TLDR; Creepy staff and stale food

A trip to JP's Pizza is a tradition for every Northwestern game for our family now. We go before afternoon/evening games and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and unbeatable pizza. Service is always friendly and fast, and they are great at communicating specials or recommendations. The pizza is some of the best I've ever had in the Chicago area--fantastic crust and fresh toppings in great combinations. Atmosphere is very casual, but always clean and welcoming. I always look forward to visiting JP's.

JP's is not your average pizza joint. there is much more to look forward to while coming in here. The service is wonderful, the food is great, and the prices are excellent. One thing I can definitely say that I like about this place is getting here. It's right off the purple line Linden stop. I work in the city, so that's very convenient. The staff are very wonderful as well. Very attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly. They make you feel like you've been coming here for years even if it's just your first time. The bottom line, don't take this establishment just as "some pizza place". It's much more than that. Try every single thing on the menu if you can. It's worth it.

I am in love with this place. I'm hugely dependent on the shining light of grace that is Grubhub, and so when I found JP's, I figured it would be much like any other delivery salad and pizza...but the pizzas are interesting and different, and the salads are fresh and incredible literally every time, so, yes, all thumbs up here. Also the vesuvio fries, though they don't always seem to make them right, are great when they're the right way!

Went there on a Saturday afternoon with my wife to check out the "best pizza in the North Shore." We're currently big fans of Pizano's in Glenview for their thin crust - which is actually a little thicker than average thin crusts, but no where near the traditional Chicago deep dish. For NY style pizza, we really enjoy No Man's Land. We shared a Wise Guy Pizzetta - a smaller, but enough for two pizza that is apparently cooked twice to make the crust extra crispy. Fennel sausage with sweet onions and mozzarella. Crust was as thin as No Man's, but didn't flop. Sauce was excellent, crust was a little more buttery than others I've had but not overpowering like Home Run Inn's crusts. Needles to say, we devoured it. We both agreed it is now our overall favorite pizza in the area. We also tried and shared a meatball sandwich. The server was nice enough to divide it for us and served it to us in two plates. Came on fresh, crispy bread with homemade meatballs that were cooked perfectly and smothered in mozzarella cheese and their excellent marinara sauce with a salad "garnish". Excellent and would order again. Sandwich came with an option of soup or salad and I opted for their soup - Minestrone. Awesome. Big chunks of vegetables, whole beans and noodles. I'd describe it as a "chowder" style Minestrone which I love. Seems like every place makes it their own way, but their way is my favorite . I'd order a bucket of this to go in the future. Server asked us if we wanted dessert and even though we were stuffed, we said yes because so far they hit the trifecta as far as everything we ordered being excellent. He came back with three pinky sized canollis drizzled with a little chocolate. He said they were on the house. Only "miss" was that their pop machine seemed to be lacking carbonation and the pop my wife ordered was flat. No big deal. No the fanciest place, but we've gone out enough to know that we're all about the food and service - way too many experiences of fancy places where the food and/or service didn't live up to the decor. Based on what we had, our server and the over price - $27 with tax - we'll become regulars here and will support this local business. Highly recommend so far.

Their thin crust pizza is great! The flavor and the way they cook it, defers from any other pizzeria. The mozzarella sticks are great too. The service was okay. I did not receive the most attentive service. I must admit that eating here can be quite pricey...but it is worth it.

Wish i knew about this place before. We just wanted some drinks before hoping on the EL. Dropped in for some beers and shots for nice and cheap with a good strong pour. will definitely be back to try the food and anytime i want a drink before the train

Seriously? I've been here three times after reading the reviews. The pizza is mediocre at best - really. I've tried a few and it's nothing to go out of your way for. The dining experience there is just strange. There were three tables going and four employees standing by the bar who were either staring at the patrons or texting. The woman behind the bar did nothing but change the Pandora station. On top of it the service just plain blew. I seriously don't know what all of these other Yelpers are smoking by giving this place anything more than a star or two.

I was told by a friend that I HAD TO TRY JP's. Best Pizza in the North Shore he said. I was skeptical considering this guy hates Deep Dish Pizza and lives in Chicago. But, either way, I gave it a shot and he wasn't lying. We didn't venture into the more unusual toppings. My 6 year old wanted sausage and pepperoni, and who am I to try and argue with a sausage and pepperoni pizza request. Next time though. I would definitely recommend JP's to anyone on the NS of Chicago who is looking for a solid pizza place.

I'm done with ordering from here. This is the third time we have ordered from them and the third time our food has arrived cold. We were promised 30-35 min for delivery tonight and over an hour later our food arrived. They did not bring utensils or napkins--we had needed both. My husband's burger was so so and certainly not cooked the way he asked. I got a greek salad with chicken. It was mostly lettuce and kalmata olives (had more veggies the first time) and the chicken was cold and dry. Also, most places bring bread when you order a salad-they did not. We live 4 blocks from here. Its a shame-we won't bother going there or ordering again.

JP's is a great find where a group of us headed over after our annual mommy spa party and we divulged in some delicious pizza and salad. One of our friends has a gluten allergy and they told her to pick any pizza and they could make it for her gluten-free. What fabulous customer service!

I stumbled across this place while attending a Northwestern football game. I must say wow, they have some of the most delicious thin crust pizza we've ever had. We started with some cheese and mushroom quesadillas which were really good. We got half Judgment Day and half McCarthy's special with couple of Bell's amber beers - delicious! The pizza crust was perfect, crunchy, just enough sauce. Our server Dimitry was very attentive even though the place was a little crazy post game. Brownies a-la-mode were a great way to finish our meal because they were awesome too.

This place is a little under-appreciated in my book. We happened upon this pizzeria and found it to be a nice little diversion from the usual pizza place. The service was amazing, the food delicious and the beer selection righteous. They even accommodated us by creating both a custom pasta dish and a custom ice cream serving that weren't on the menu for our toddler. I think the only thing this place could possibly use more of is a bit more ambiance and personality to go along with everything else that's working well. We'll definitely be back and are certain that if more people gave this place a chance, it would probably be packed.

Normally I don't write bad reviews because most of the places I go to aren't bad. That being said, I have no intention of ever returning to this place again. Two stars because the interior of the place is pretty nice, and so is the staff working there; the restaurant itself is clean and tidy, and our waiter was courteous and quick. The food, on the other hand, was overpriced and not well prepared. I had the McCarthy Burger and my mom had the fish and chips. I ordered my burger medium, but it came to me burnt, and I could taste more of the grill than the meat. Fries were nothing to write home about. My mom described her fish and chips as being "too soggy, too salty, and too little". This was not a burger and fries worth paying $10 for, and the fish and chips were certainly not worth $12. We gave it a shot, and this will probably be the first and last time we eat here. My suggestion is to take your money elsewhere.

Gluten-free pizza. Hello. I work nearby. I like that this place is close. I like the gluten-free pizza. I like the restaurant's discount for local businesses. I like their salads. I like that when I dine here with others, everyone can basically find something they enjoy. The drawbacks are that sometimes food can take a while. But, maybe that's just what happens when you eat at a table where you order a salad and 3 other people order pizza. Whatever. I can usually be patient. I have heard rumors that they can also serve sandwiches on gluten-free bread, but I've never ordered this. Something to put on the to-do list, perhaps.

Soup was very good. For the convenience it was excellent. And much better than expected. We thought it was just a generic neighborhood pizza place but they had great pasta selections over the spaghetti and mostaccioli as one would expect. We ordered pesto cavattapi and gnocchi--both very good. Plus we had a choice of a number of very drinkable $20 wine bottle specials.... Can't go wrong with that!!

Finally! Good...no...fabulous pizza in Wilmette! Thin crust, fresh ingredients, right combo of spices. Not your usual cardboard crust and heavy, gooey cheese. Tastes like pizza from the mom and pop pizzerias from back in the day. Winnetka's loss is Wilmette's gain. Try it...you'll love it!

My wife prefers thin crust pizza (I am a deep dish fan) and we recently discovered this place. GREAT pizza! The crust is thin and crispy, and happily avoids the biscuity taste so prevalent in Chicago. We look forward to trying more things on the menu.

This place is great for kids and parents. We were thrilled when they moved to Wilmette and hope they stay a long time. I love the no frills look with quality food that looks as good as it tastes. We get pizza delivered too and are always happy. We tend to eat here once a week and always look forward to it.

Sandwiches and salads are tasty but the pizza was very poor and lacked any flavor. If I don't want to cook this place is convenient. The place always seems dead except for a couple customers and the atmosphere is very bland. For it's location, I wished this place would have more character.

As local residents, my family and I are always hopeful that good restaurants will open and thrive in the 4th and Linden business district. When JP McCarthy's arrived, we were cautiously optimistic. Every time we drive past, there appears to be a good flow of patrons...so we decided to give a delivery order a try. We ordered a pizza and some beef barley soup....and everything was delicious! The soup was made with all fresh ingredients...even some fresh dill, which really brought out all of the flavors....the best beef barley soup I've had! The pizza had equally fresh, delicious ingredients. I was happy to see artichokes on the pizza menu, and they did not disappoint! The crust was a perfect thin crust, with a great brick-oven...almost smoky taste. Best of all, the order arrived in 35 minutes...much better than the 1-hour-plus we experience with other local pizzerias. We will definitely return, and can't wait to try more menu items! Welcome to the neighborhood!

Their food is fine but not their customer service! We ordered through Grub Hub, their online service. When I got there to pay they said I couldn't use the coupons they send out in the mail since I ordered online. I told them that nowhere did it say that on the coupon, their website or Grub Hub! They should have taken it this time and said now you know but they did nothing. We ordered what we did because of the coupons. Very disappointed!

This place is great for kids, and that's the only reason we ever go. I don't think I've ever really enjoyed anything I've had there, except maybe the chicken fajitas which were a special. The kids get paper place-mats to draw on with crayons and can order mac n cheese, chicken fingers, burgers, etc. I think their pizza is OK, but not great, and I won't order the Margerita pizza again - that wasn't good at all. In the summer the kids can play outside, but even that isn't as much fun now that they've taken down much of the play equipment that used to be on the patio. If you sit inside they have a few big TVs and some gumball machines. Mediocre wines, decent beers, service is hit or miss.

Wow Lotsa bitchy peeps in Wilmette. You'd think they'd cut this place some slack since it opened up at a bad time during this abysmal economy and cold weather season. The pizza tastes great in my opinion and the father and son team are as nice as can be. The family that lives 4 blocks and gets it delivered??You have other problems but I digress. Go here and support your local businesses folks! The pizza is good and yes the atmosphere needs a little more TLC but I'm glad to support it!

A little overpriced and average food. We were the only two in the place on a Thursday night, which felt strange and like everyone else was avoiding the place. Santa Fe wrap was good. Fish in fish n chips tasted less than fresh. Service was good.

Love this place! Great little neighborhood pizza place. We have tried many of their pizzas and have never been disappointed. I have enjoyed their salads and potato gnocchi too. I've also been very happy with their service even when packed the food comes out in a timely manner.

What an awesome place in a location that sorely needs a great restaurant. First and foremost, the thin crust pizza is amazing. Crisp crust and wonderfully, fresh toppings. Plus, they have other unique pizza topping options that are wonderfully delicious. Though we order pizza most of the time, on occasion we order other items on their simple, yet tasty menu. JP's burgers rival area competitors and they have other unique items such as fish tacos and grilled beet salad with goat cheese which are a hit with my family. And, when it's on the menu, the made from scratch pea soup is outstanding. if you live within a 10 mile drive of the 4th and Linden El station, or a few El stops away, JP's is a great place for dinner. Great food, a spacious dining room (or great takeout or delivery) and satisfactory service. Two thumbs (and a 3rd and 4th if I had 'em) way up.

I've been going to this restaurant for 10 years now. As an adolescent and into my adulthood. McCarthy's has it all. Great pizza. Delicious sandwiches (my favorite is the Turkey Sierra) and mondo burgers. Nice choice of sides (noting the slaw and mashed potatoes!). It's a family restaurant. During lunch you'll find business people and Mom's toting young (and often loud) children. That's why more often than not, I opt to pick it up and go.

  • Melissa M.

The pizza has wonderful crust, but is a little salty and greasy. Salads are gigantic and mostly standard romaine. Nice atmosphere and good for kids though.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
