Fuel is by far my favorite place to meet friends for breakfast or lunch on the north shore. Tim is passionate about his original menu and premium quality ingredients. I've always had wonderful service and have not had a bad experience in dozens of visits. DO NOT miss this gem in Wilmette. Try the Chilaquiles; they are unbelievable.

Went to this place for brunch. I loved the simple design and how open it felt. I liked that the chef was cutting vegetables at a prep station that was visible to customers showing off how fresh everything was. I ordered the Chilaquiles Verdes and was surprised by how delicious it was. I've never really had anything like it, but the spices used throughout were just exceptional. The eggs and chicken were also cooked perfectly. Thanks for a great meal Fuel and hope to be going back soon with friends when I'm back in the area.

Just stopped in so wife could use the restroom (we were cycling on the adjacent trail), but I decided to have a seat and a beer (to rehydrate of course). When my wife returned she said "We must try the bacon! They have organic bacon!" Now I have to say, I am not one of those organic nutcases (neither is my wife for that matter), but I do love my bacon. We were not disappointed. It was thick and salty and crispy. Perfect. Next time we ride by here, we will definitely stop in for a full breakfast.

Love love breakfast and I haven't experienced a better place! Had a hankering for a nice breakfast this morning. My daughter pick it from yelp and we enjoyed it! The only dislikes was the unsteady table and being seated so close to the door. Food was delishious! Will definitely eat there again!

Came back for the great food. The service was much quicker than last time. There still seems to be room for improvement. They don't seem to dedicate one server to a table. Everyone seems to help everyone. Again , the food is very good.

I've been coming here twice a week for the past month for breakfast. Great food! Not so great service. Closes at 2 pm. Today I went in at 1:45 pm & they wouldn't serve me breakfast anymore. Menu advertises breakfast until 2 pm. The plate I was going to order takes 10 minutes to make. But, cook & waiter refused to make it & serve even though there were still 15 minutes left. Another party of 4 came in for breakfast as Well & cook refused again. No manager to talk to. Closing time should say 1:45 pm. I Will never come back no Matter how good breakfast is.

Tonight was the second time I have been to Fuel for dinner. I had been there for breakfast and lunch and it was fine but not outstanding. But dinner was wonderful both times!! The first visit I had the Vegetarian Enchiladas which were delicious. They were light and very flavorful. Tonight I had Roasted Lamb Chops with Pesto Mashed Potatoes and the best green beans I have had outside France. Everything was perfect. And the bread they serve before dinner is practically worth the trip all by itself. The restaurant business in Wilmette has really taken off in the last few years but Fuel definitely has by far the best food. My only complaint would be that the chairs are kind of spindly.

Was a regular for a couple years. I was always prepared for poor service but with the price increases in addition to the consistently poor service (never refill coffee...asking for check...missing extra sides ordered) there are too many other great options.

I've been wanting to try Fuel -- so I ignored the bad reviews and went forth! I ordered a veggie omelette (with a side of fruit) and it was fresh and yummy. Service was friendly and attentive to coffee refills, etc. Maybe Fuel is trying to turn things around? It's such a nice alternative to Walker Bros. if you're looking for a good breakfast place. If you tried it before, give it a second chance. I figure that all cafes need a few tries before the "yea" or "nay" verdict.

Just had a superb dinner at this gem. Great service, casual but nice decor. Food was fresh, beautiful presentation. Limited wine list but some good choices and generous pours. We will definitely be going back.

This is an update to a review I wrote a couple years ago. I've given Fuel a few other chances and have been pleasantly surprised. We've come in for work functions with 8-10 people and felt that they were very accommodating. I've also come in with my kids who have made small disasters and they handled it with a smile. I also appreciate the locally sourced food!

Very good place to go on a Sunday morning. The products they use are high quality. Delicious Benedict's, delicious bacon, ham, and sausage. Excellent fresh bread. Eggs are always properly cooked. Small menu, but always satisfying.

Wow, this place was AWFUL for breakfast! We were intrigued by their advertising a "farm to table" meal. This was NOT true at all. The orange juice was store-bought regular, the creamers were in diner-style creamers (not organic), and both my husband and I had very bland, boring meals. It's pretty hard to mess up a meal with eggs and bacon. My husband's french toast was dry and quickly dipped in batter, even though it was advertised as being "soaked in vanilla custard and cinnamon". The highlight of our meal was honestly the coffee (it was decent). This place is DEFINITELY not what it's cracked up to be, at least for breakfast.

Family-friendly small spot very near the Winnetka Metra Rail station and along a bike trail that saw major use on our Sunday morning visit. Plenty of parking at the rail station (use caution as you cross that bike path!) The Farm-to-Table approach is alive and well in this little joint, and the service was down-to-earth and obliging. We called ahead, and though there was no wait, the outdoor seating was packed, so we opted to sit right away inside. What this North Shore gem lacks in "fancy" (and I don't care about that, anyway, but some might), it makes up for in high-quality, well-sourced food, thoughtful menu selections, plating, and great execution on the cooking. The specials board and other menu items looked so great, it was the best way to start our first visit. Brunch selections included typical breakfast items, several sandwiches, and some great sandwiches. Winnetka Metra commuters - stop by and check out Fuel's breakfast burrito. (I envy those who enjoyed the previous evening's dinner Seared Scallops with sauteed greens and garlic-mash!) Back to brunch: GREAT and worth our 20 minute commute - we will go back. I enjoyed the Crab Cakes Benny, hubby enjoyed the Lobsta - okay Lobster - Club, and kids devoured the Brioche French Toast with sides of eggs/bacon/sausage. Eggs were gorgeous and clearly steps above average, with high-sitting marigold-colored yolks and a satisfying, rich quality. The brioche French toast was ridiculous... ridiculously delicious, eggy-rich and little sweet. Coffee was excellent, rich, full-bodied and hot. (Yes, coffee! Keep it clean, folks.). I have high expectations that other menu items will be just as good. Check hours and call before you go.

They must have changed owners. My sister and I used to really like this place as a weekend brunch spot. The food was fresh (boasted farm-to-table), the place was clean, and the service was excellent. I don't know if they changed owners, but this place has really gone downhill from a year ago. We both went last weekend, and our experience was disappointing. Other than the subpar quality and portion of the food, the service was what ensured us that we would not come back. Though the place was relatively empty, the service was incredibly slow. They would seat us and take orders even though the table was still covered with the trash and leftover dishes from the party before. The table next to us got their food but was forced to wait until their utensils were brought. Little kids were told by the server that they were out of soda (really??) and that they didn't have orange juice left (even though we just saw the owner bring in a few store-bought Tropicana gallons moments before). We had to request very basic things and wait a while for our server to bring them, such as straws for our drinks and jam for our toast. By the time the owner (or manager) asked two elderly women, who had finished up their meal and were simply enjoying the beautiful day, to leave because they "needed the table" (again, it was not busy and there were other empty tables), we were pretty set on not coming again.

For this month's date night, I took my wife to Fuel. New to us. A bit off the main drag it sits across from the Wilmette train station. Very casual interior, with a semi-diner vibe owing to the large counter/bar in the middle of the space. Cosy and casual, we liked it. The menu is appealing and filled with fairly traditional dishes. They do seem to vary the menu and feature a lot of different specials. We each had a salad to start. Arugula with beets which my wife liked quite a lot, blue cheese and roasted pear which was very tasty. Both were properly dressed. I had papardelle with Bolognese sauce and rage. The noodles were well cooked and the sauce was a true Bolognese (ground beef and carrot, no tomato). The ragu at the bottom was thin but tasty. My wife ordered vegetable enchiladas. They were really soft tacos as they were not baked so the tortillas were raw. Topped with lettuce and cheese. She liked them quite a bit but they were not really enchiladas. The owner recommended good wines and was very attentive. The waiter seemed new (as if he was still learning the menu) but properly attentive and polite. We liked the place and will definitely go back.

Great little gem in Wilmette. Good for children. Fresh local ingredients. Really savory dishes. Very resonantly priced. Had the Moroccan chicken salad and the Cobb salad. Kids had pancakes. All delicious!!!

Poor service and marginal food. water was never brought to our table, when requested still not brought- had to go in and ask the host. Didn't receive all of order. Received a dirty coffee mug. Attitude from waitress and the food was NOtHING special. Cobb salad was very small, hardly any chicken, eggs Benedict was maybe a 3 out of 10. Don't waste your time.

Had lunch at fuel today with a friend we sat outside and after we had finished our meal the owner asked us to pay up since someone else was waiting to sit outside when we walked into the restaurant all tables were empty. I don't think it's good business to ask people to leave we got there first it should be our table until we are ready To leave. Not happy !

We arrived at 10 on a Sunday morning when it was way too cold to sit outside, despite the date being May 31. We waited about ten minutes for a table. The waitress asked if we wanted drinks. We ordered one Diet Coke and three coffees. They arrived. The waitress did not bring a straw for the Coke even after being asked. My friend eventually got up and asked the manager for one. The waitress brought no cream for the coffee even after we asked for some. Finally I asked the manager and he brought some. The waitress took our order in a surly fashion as if it was all just too much trouble. She was impatient when I asked what types of bread were available. The order took about twenty minutes to be delivered, but that was okay. We wanted time to chat. The food was good, hot, well and correctly prepared to our order. We enjoyed it. No coffee refills were offered. We asked and it took some time to arrive. The restaurant is small and, while it was full, the waitress did not appear to be rushed. She just failed to respond to our politely voiced requests. When we had finished eating, our plates were whisked away. Although only one foursome was waiting for a table, I felt the manager breathing down our necks as we lingered slightly after the check arrived. Despite the nice surroundings and food (and it was quiet enough for normal conversation), I would not return. There are too many other breakfast places around with friendly servers where I can get the same food.

We took my 90 year old French mother to lunch here last Friday as we thought she'd enjoy a local place with farm-to-table food. My husband ordered a Mexican breakfast meal with pan fries. He had just started eating when he bit into his fries/hash browns and spat out a fat 1 inch long piece of sharp steel wool. We called the manager (owner?) over and he simply shrugged and said "That's from cleaning." No apology --all he said was "Do you want new fries?" Who would want new fries from the same fryer when this has just happened. My husband politely declined. He walked away as if what happened was perfectly normal. After we realized that the manager was not going to to to the kitchen to warn them to be on the lookout for other pieces of steel wool in the pan fries, we called him over and suggested he might want to warn the kitchen to be on the lookout, as other people might get very badly hurt. Although we were polite in our suggestion, he acted as though it was really too much of a fuss to be bothered, but ultimately complied. Given the unusually bad experience, you'd think he would have taken something off the bill (like my husband's meal), but absolutely nothing was taken off the bill, even though my husband could not finish his home fries. No apology as we left either. Really stunningly bad treatment of a customer. I realize I did not say anything about the food. It was just OK...nothing to write home about, and certainly not worth the price point...perhaps they are charging for the added "bonus" metal content.

Rushed by crazy owner!! Love the food but tired of being rushed out by owner. Met a business colleague and we sat outside. After 30 minutes for lunch we were informed that others were waiting for tables. ( i got there at 11:30) I asked for a refill on my iced tea and it was brought to me in a to go cup - so rude! We were not done with our meeting. I love the food and concept but be prepared to eat fast! I will not go back as there are other places nearby.

Try McDonalds first. My experience was similar to a lot of other posters. Went in on Saturday morning with another couple. We ordered. Waited. Got our food. And were approached by owner before finishing who told us to "move along." If I wanted fast food, I would have gone to McDonald's. Would have got a better tasting breakfast burrito as well. Owner is pretentious wantabe restaurant operator. Perhaps he has watched one too many episodes of Restaurant Rescue and is learning how to turn tables, but when you charge multiples of what the food is worth, you better have something else besides rudeness. (and giving mediocre food fancy names is not enough. perhaps they will cover that in a future episode!)

While I know that Fuel is popular for a breakfast spot, try it for dinner. Three of us went last Saturday night and had the most amazing dinner. Enchiladas Verdes were amazing for a vegetarian option with delicious, bold flavors. One friend had a delicious pork chop with one of the best cups of chowder I've ever tasted. Another friend had the pappardelle - looked amazing. The bread and butter pudding was delicious and plenty for all three of us to enjoy. Owner Tim Lenon made us feel special and provided fantastic service. You'll love it.

A good place for breakfast. The chilaquiles and pancakes were both fine, not particularly remarkable. The side order of ham was generous and very tasty, sourced (as are many of their offerings) from a local provider. Service was friendly and attentive.

Awesome food!! The service was not very good..We felt rushed by the server during the entire time we were there....once we ordered our entrees she never asked us if we wanted any dessert or coffee and just brought the bill. We asked her if they had desert and her answer was...well... we only have two...giving us the impression she wanted us to leave. Not very relaxing needless to say. So we went elsewhere for coffee and dessert. Also it doesn't look very professional when your server is wearing a leather jacket....Be prepared to eat fast and leave...Hope things change because the food is very good and we would love to return but at this point in time, we will not return...its a shame!!!

Fuel is way over-looked on the North Shore for the quality of its ingredients and, especially, for its outstanding dinner service. Known mainly for breakfast, Fuel does a solid job delivering farm to table ingredients with above average creativity and execution. However, to know Fuel is to try its dinner. The menu is limited but the execution is outstanding. Sadly, we are usually only one of a few tables occupied during the evening. This places deserves to have more of a following. There are a lot of bad reviews because of how they apparently handled a Groupon a year or two ago. Don't let that dissuade you from trying it. Tim and his team are among the sincerest and kindest people we know in the restaurant business.

Like so many other diners trying to use a GroupOn, we got treated very poorly once the owner (Tim) realized we had one. Mine was actually a Living Social. Before buying it however, I called the restaurant to ask if there was anything on the menu that would be off limits to us. (A precaution I've learned to take.) I was told no, that we could order anything we wanted. Well, as you see from many reviewers here, that's simply not what happens when you go in to eat. Every course, we were told we couldn't get what we wanted. Furthermore, I was "treating" a girlfriend here and with that Living Social we were made to feel like Hester Prynne wearing the Scarlet Letter. Even after spending much of our own money buying several more glasses of mediocre wine, dessert and apps - we were treated like garbage. Hey Tim, if you don't want the increase in traffic from GroupOns or Living Social - don't run the deals. It's as simple as that. Not only will I not come back here (and I live so close), I'm sharing my experience with my neighbors. On a side note, my entree was very good. I got the pork chop (what I was in the mood for was not allowed on the deal) and was pleasantly surprised. My salad (roasted beet) though, was dry and bland. The gumbo (special soup, not part of the deal, which I asked for anyway and told them to charge me for) was also very good. Bottom line - don't support businesses with bad attitudes and business practices.

I like the all organic menu and metropolis coffee. Service isn't outstanding. I could see how if you like an overly attentive waitperson this place could bother you. I don't live in the area, but if I did, I'd frequent Fuel often for the coffee and a quick breakfast bite.. We waited a really long time for our plates to be cleared and our server to bring us our check. Some coffee refills would have been nice too, but he completely ignored us. The owner should take note because the shelf life of a restaurant with inattentive service is short.

I keep trying to love this place--it has so much going for it-convenient location, locally sourced food but its just not quite right. The portions are really small, the food lacks much flavor and the muffins are tasteless and stale. I also find the staff to be pretty unfriendly--its almost as if they groan when we walk in the door (I usually go there with my three kids under three by myself). =

Love this place for breakfast. However, my dinner experience was an entirely different story. We both ordered the special - grass fed NY strip. I ordered it medium and my Dad ordered it medium-rare. They came well done without even a hint of pink. The steaks were very tasty even in that state. I decided to send mine back while my Dad just ate his. My second one came looking beautiful on the outside but completely raw in the inside. Honestly, I'm not sure if the raw-ness was an attempt to get me what I wanted or retaliation for sending food back, which I haven't done in years. The waiter never checked to see that it was ok. Nor did he comment when I asked for a container to take home my uneaten, raw steak. I brought it home and finished cooking it myself. It saddens me to write this review as I love the Fuel concept (fresh, local, and reasonably priced) - sadly, shoddy execution on display here.

While waiting for a table, a party walked out telling the host that they just had the worst brunch of their lives and that their potatoes were raw..Not a promising start. We stuck it out though to make our own decision, but our expectations were set pretty low at this point. We ordered the green eggs and ham benny and the farmer's breakfast. It was fine. On the good side, the potatoes were fully cooked. Unfortunately, they were unevenly cut and in different levels of readiness. Also, mine were very unevenly mixed with onions. I kind of feel that they were either too busy that morning or there's some inexperience in the kitchen. On top of the uneven potatoes, our side of bacon came out and the slices varied from super crisp to very limp. Sometimes in the same strip. The egg in my benny was hard cooked when it should have been poached and at least a little runny. And finally the sausage link was split in half when cooked. Shouldn't a sausage have that nice snap when you bite into it? Shouldn't it be juicy? Anyway, certainly not the worst brunch I've had, but there is definite room for improvement. Too bad as I really wanted to like it here.

This is a great local restaurant and I definitely will try it again! Service was great, different than what some of the negative reviews suggest, they have some interesting takes on the usual breakfast items, and all in all a nice alternative to Walker Brothers and other run-of-the-mill places.

I had the most lovely DINNER at Fuel. The oxtail, Chicken pot pie, the lentil salad, the goat cheese, every plate we had was amazing!!! To top it off we had a pumpkin walnut pie, and a chocolate dessert (I forget the name) both were amazing!!! The service was great and the ambiance was conducive to our mini reunion, allowing us to share the plates, chat, laugh and reminisce ! I will be back! Go hungry, and try everything!

As a city-to-North Shore transplant, Fuel is a great place to get a fix of that urban, modern, organic, local (insert additional foodie buzzwords here) trend that's growing pretty commonplace in the city. We've only been for brunch, and it's a nice change of pace from the heavier, diner-like options like Le Peep and Walker Bros., which also have their place. Here's what I love about Fuel: the decor, Metropolis coffee, innovative twists on common menu items like pancakes and eggs benedict, the nutella-filled cream puffs (OMG). Here's what could use a little work: smoother service; a slightly more expansive menu or at least a few more specials -- if you don't absolutely love something on the menu, there's not enough options to keep you coming back so often. Here's what I wish they hadn't done: run a Groupon. I swear Groupon is the kiss of death for businesses who want to be received well and get RETURN business, which is the key to success. They never seem to benefit the business. Do they bring in some new people? Sure, but groupers come in with high expectations and almost want to be disappointed. Seriously if you care about supporting quality businesses in your community, don't buy Groupons. Tim, the owner (or the skinny, unfriendly host as one other reviewer called him) has been nothing but accommodating, friendly, and hands-on involved with the business every time we've been there. I really hope Fuel sticks around and continues improving, letting their concept and food speak for itself, instead of some bad Groupon experiences.

I came here for dinner with my gf last night and was very pleased with both our entrees. something wasn't right about the wine though and thus my 4 star rating. the soup and salad was excellent as well. Too bad I didn't have room to try the fudge brownie. Will definitly come back to try again. The server was supper nice btw.

I recently went up to Thrillmette for the French Market (why, Wilmette? "Farmers' Market" too middle-class? Yours needs Continental flair? Do you think you're Winnetka? But I digress) and had planned on the ol' stand-by, Ridgeview for brunch afterwards. We only noticed Fuel on our way back to the car, and decided to be spontaneous and try it instead. We walked in and had a moment of disorientation because there's not a traditional entryway or hostess area. Luckily, after a minute we were given our choice of tables and picked one halfway to the back, away from the sunny windows. This spot offered scenic views of the bathrooms, one of which mysteriously locked itself with apparently no one inside. As time went on and knocks were not answered and no one emerged, it lead to some concern that we were witnessing a died-in-the-bathroom scene like in Clerks. No worries though, I guess that lock is just extra vigilant. The big chalkboards listing juices, smoothies and specials offered some major temptations, and I eventually decided on a peach/OJ smoothie after asking a few clarifying questions of server #1. Namely, I needed to know what besides peach and OJ was in the smoothie (yogurt) and how much it cost ($4). These tidbits are nowhere on the chalkboard or menu and I can't imagine I'm the only one who'd like to know these things. Similarly, my dining companion had to ask whether there were eggs in the chilaquiles (there are) because the description actually left that part out. The only other thing I will say about the smoothie is that it was incredible. I love a smoothie, sure, but this one was so good I think I let my O face slip out right there in public. Apologies to my fellow diners... Otherwise, both my build-your-own-omelet and my DC's chilaquiles were in the B range (though I'm pretty sure those weren't portabellas in my spinach and portabella omelet). My DC did have to ask server #2 for the salsa that was supposed to come with his dish, and although he received it right away, it was a very small portion. In spite of the great smoothie and otherwise decent food, the overall impression I'm left with is that Fuel is kind of more trouble than it's worth. Between the chalkboard and menu mysteries and the service, it felt a little chaotic. There's not a lot left to the imagination - items are prepared behind a counter and partial wall - and it felt a little like watching a friend prepare for a party, except that the party had already started. Also, and this is not major, but our bill was not completely accurate (all told, over by $.45 and each item was listed as "Misc."). So, Fuel, I know you're newish and maybe a little overexcited, but if you stay focused and find your stride, I think you have potential. Just remember to cross your T's and dot your I's.

Well this was our second time at Fuel. We came back because the food is good. And we liked the concept of healthy, local food. But this was also the second time we felt yucky about the management of the place. Our server was really nice and made the most of her time with us. But the owner was unpleasant AGAIN. The first time we went there, we mentioned to him that we had some questions about our Groupon before we ordered. Almost before I finished speaking, he rather impatiently told us that the Groupon couldn't be used until Jan 3rd. We were fine with that, except his attitude colored the rest of our meal. Which we enjoyed and cost us about $50. Today, well after Jan 3rd, we went back with our Groupon and had a pretty nice breakfast, same good food. It wasn't until we wondered about the value of our Groupon and whether the stated savings was realistic, that we encountered that same bad vibe we'd gotten before. We had purchased a Groupon for breakfast or lunch for 4 which cost $45 and suggested an actual value of up to $120 -- including mimosas and dessert. Given the prices on the menu and the fact that the most expensive menu items were not allowed as part of the Groupon, we just didn't see how four people could really spend $120 before tax. Our server said it was the mimosas, 2 at $12 each, and our dessert, one meager brownie-size cake the four of us had to share at $10) that added enought to the tab that $120 was a feasible value. We were contemplating that and how in the world our bill came to $107 (which as good Grouponers we would tip on, but by out calculations our meal came to $78) when the owner came over, bill in hand, and curtly said the amount was the same no matter what we ordered (which wasn't the point at all) and then told us we only had to pay $9.98 tax as if he couldn't imagine why we'd have a problem with that. What we had a problem with TWICE was his unfriendliness. I get that maybe the Groupon thing didn't work out so well for him, but honestly, making it uncomfortable for us has cost him a family of 4 customers and a growing number of negative reviews.

I live in the area and decided to check this place out for breakfast, even though the reviews were persuading me to steer clear. My experience was average like most others. Service isn't the best and food is just ok. The coffee we ordered arrived with grounds visibly present so we asked for new and same thing happened. Third try was slightly better but still pretty bad. Not sure who runs this place but they need some help.

Went to dinner at Fuel last night with a group of wine folks. They charged us $10/person to open up as many bottles as we wanted, so that's a big plus. We had the back room all to ourselves, which was also a plus worth noting. The service was helpful and attentive - lots of water refills too which I always like. The food was at times, fantastic, at other times more on the average side. We started with their sausage plate and some beef carpaccio. The sausages were very good and came with some great homemade mustard. The carpaccio was nice too - simple, raw beef. My entree, the filet, was cooked perfectly for my tastes and I scarfed it down without a hitch. The cheese plate was where I thought there's room for improvement. The plates were cluttered with so much stuff...cheese, apple slices, nuts, greens...it was just unsightly and overwhelming. Will definitely go back!

Went with another couple and had a bad experience that echoes many of the previous posts. Other couple bought a Groupon but couldn't use it. Tried to get it credited but Tim, the owner, would only credit what he receives from Groupon rather than the full amount our friends paid. Didn't seem fair. Once it became clear we were hoping to use a Groupon, Tim became rude and asked us to settle up because he wanted to close shop. Our server who seemed unable to smile, went missing. As we walked out, Tim peeled away from the parking lot in his SUV. It seems obvious that he isn't enjoying his time as restauranteur. That feeling trickles down to his staff and guests. We've given this spot three tries (brunch and dinner) and won't be giving them another, sorry to say because location is so convenient.

Fuel is a diamond in the rough. It's locationally challenged so you rarely need a reservation to get a table. Sandwiched between the Chase bank and Metra station on a small side street, it is not in the 'flow' of either pedestrian or car traffic. Its food for dinner is far tastier than many of the other restaurants in Wilmette center (which all have lines out the door). It started out as a breakfast place, morphed into a breakfast, lunch and dinner place and blew through a number of chefs initially. Perhaps its reputation has suffered locally because of these growing pains, but its current chef is terrific. I would definitely recommend it. On second thought, stay away! I want to continue to stroll in there on a whim to get a great meal.

We had amazing pasta dishes!! I've been here a few times for breakfast. This was my first dinner. My daughter and I weren't that hungry so we split two appetizer size pasta dishes. Huge mistake-- should've got the full portions because they were so delicious. We a gnocchi in cream truffle sauce and butternut squash ravioli. Each was top notch. If you said they were from the best Italian restaurant in Chicago I would have said " no doubt". We wiped our plates clean with the bread. Give five stars all the way for breakfast **and** dinner.

Love the food, not mad about the coffee, find the service hit or miss, and the owner a bit scattered (but he's since guy with good intentions!). Enough going for it that I keep going back.

Great food from fresh ingredients! You can eat for cheaper...but what are you eating? Think about the difference between boxed mix pancakes with margarine and corn syrup or homemade cakes with butter and real maple syrup!

I only wish I had looked at the reviews before I spent $50 for a Living Social deal. My husband and I went for dinner. The food was tasty, though, as others have said, the things I would have chosen were "off limits". That's the good news. Now for the bad news: The wine was *almost* as good as the "two-buck Chuck" I buy at Trader Joe's. Our table was tiny, unsteady on it's base, and jammed between the bar and the wall, even though there were several open tables elsewhere when we arrived. I felt as though we were given the worst spot because we had a voucher. Service was adequate, and fast, but curt. No bread was offered; there was no salt or pepper on the table, and really no opportunity to ask for it. When we declined more wine, we were not asked if we would care for some other beverage, nor were we asked if we wanted coffee after the meal. Worst of all was the idea that this dinner could have a pre-discount price of almost $100 for two people-- soup, salad (no choice), entree (4 choices) and a glass of wine (red or white was the only choice). Even at the $50 I paid (plus tip and tax on the full amount), I consider the dinner overpriced. Ambiance and atmosphere, ungracious service, plus the fact that the restaurant shares a building with a car wash, do not justify such prices. If you want an example of what a $100 dinner *should* be, for my money, I'd say go to Quince in Evanston. Service is gracious and attentive without being snooty. Every dish is a marvel of flavor. Your table will NOT rock around as you eat-- and they will treat you exactly the same if you have a voucher (I've been there both ways). And, best of all, it may not even cost you $100! I've heard that Fuel is good for breakfast, but I don't think I'll ever find out!

Food was just OK and the service was poor, yet on a weekend for dinner it wasn't even filled. We were there on a GroupOn and when the owner realized that, he was borderline obnoxious. Too bad because we use GroupOns to try places that are new to us and we try to patronize local places but we were treated so poorly that I'd never go back. I cannot believe this place is still open. " Eek! Methinks not" says it all. BP L

Really a different restaurant than before-- no longer just a brunch place. Had one dinner here so far. Food was great. Service was good. Menu fairly random collection of cuisines, no specials. Everything we ate was delicious. Will definitely go back again. Very hip decor esp. For Wilmette.

I am always shocked by the critics of Fuel. I have always had great experiences with breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I enjoying dining their by myself or with my family. Fuel's specials and quality of food makes it a north shore treat. I look forward to outdoor dining opening soon.

Great! Everything we ordered was superb. Service was quick, food was plated with care, and best of all made with locally sourced ingredients.

We love this place. They have always had great food and the owner is very nice. Our kids have food allergies and the kitchen is always able to accommodate our requests for safe preparation. Very allergy friendly.

I had higher expectations of this place. That got knocked down quick while waiting in line to be seated, as 2 customers from the same party yelled at the owner for having the worst under-cooked and under-seasoned potatoes ever, and how she would not believe that they charge so much for something so ordinary... My husband ordered the Green Eggs and Ham, I got the Farmers Breakfast., each of which came with potatoes (plain or topped with chorizo or corned beef) or fruit. We each got the potatoes (yes, even though we witnessed the owner being beat down for these potatoes), mine topped with corned beef and his topped with chorizo. We also got coffee (it's Metropolis, duh!!) and a side of sausage. Everything was good, not great. There was something off about each dish. Green Eggs and Ham tasted good but the eggs that were supposed to be poached and kinda oozy for a benedict came out as such on only 1 of the 2 benedicts, and the other one had a over-medium poached egg. It's no fun when there is no yolky gooey goodness on a benedict!! And they were also a little skimpy on the spinach hollandaise too. The farmers breakfast was pretty boring. My eggs were cooked well, overeasy as requested. My bacon- hmmm. It ranged in temperature from super burnt and crispy to bacon sashimi. SHAME!! Waste of organic bacon!! The sausage? For $3, 2 split links came out. Now, first of all that's pricey. Second of all, why the hell were they split? Isn't one of the reasons you get sausage links because you want to bite into the crisp skin like you're snappin' on a Slim Jim?? Damn, double shame. Oh and the taste of the sausage was different too- for those of you who are familiar with what Lop Cheong (Chinese Sausage) tastes like you would understand. It's not bad, but different , not sure what spice that is that is used in the sausage. The potatoes luckily for us were cooked fine, but the problem was that most of them were cut huge. At this point I could see how the taters could be under-cooked and boy were those customers right about the underseasoning. A little salt goes a long way!! The meats on top of the potatoes tasted fine but were dry. HIs chorizo had no grease to them and my corned beef was really like a corned beef jerky. Last but not least, if you like cream with your coffee, you will have to ask for it multiple times. They are skimpy with the creamer, not sure why?? We ended up having to ask for creamer at least three times!! There were inconsistencies all throughout the meal and we're not sure about whether to attribute that to maybe a lack of experience in the kitchen or if it was an off day or they are not used to handling a packed house. Whatever the case was, they need to fix them pronto!!

We were a table of four and had a reservation. We were rushed through the entire experience, from ordering, to barely having a cup of coffee, to paying for the bill. And NO WAY were we going to be allowed to have a leisurely completion to our meal as the staff directed us they had a party ready for our table and they started clearing our table before we even got up. We were not there over an hour total. Poor customer service. Food was ok, small portions though. We will not go back.

I was hesitant to try this place at first, since I didn't really know anything about it. But I had to wait for a train at the Wilmette Metra stop and was really hungry a few weeks ago. I'm glad I was, because I'm definitely going back for a larger meal. Since I had a limited amount of time before the train left, I only tried some soup and an appetizer. I'm excited because I bought one of the Groupons they recently offered and can't wait to try it again! Food: Really delicious. At the time, they had an excellent corn soup (not too creamy, not too "corny" tasting) and I also tried the crostinis appetizer, which was scrumptious. The variety of the menu was intriguing and interesting. It was a nice change of pace to all the corporate places I've been to recently, with the same damn thing on the menu all the time. I like to spice it up sometimes! Service: The owner greeted me at the door and was very pleasant, so I felt welcome. I found out about their farm-to-table initiatives, and that their menu has recently been renovated. They get most of their food from local farms, etc. It made me feel good about eating there. My server was friendly and provided fast service. He was available but not breathing down my neck every second. Atmosphere: The decor was minimal but nice and relaxed. It gives off a clean, fresh vibe (which also applies to any food I'm potentially eating). I especially loved the pictures hanging in the bathroom. Overall: It's relaxed, casual atmosphere mixed with satisfying, slightly upscale food was great. I will make sure to update my review after I've returned with my Groupon!

I really wanted to like this place. I am a city dweller and had to go to the burbs and did a lot of research before heading out there. I really hate the food options normally in the burbs and didn't want a generic chain place. The description of this place sounded perfect. what a letdown. Terrible decor. you want sleek modern tables? how about making them all match? I couldn't even see in the bathroom the lighting was so low. mood lighting for brunch? but not low enough for me to miss that the door was disgusting and needed to be painted on the inside. It so terribly missed the mark. AND it is next to a car wash!? ya- that is what I want when I dine outside- car fumes. menu items were very blah. i expected some exciting innovative dishes. nothing. all the normal stuff just over priced. never again fuel...never...again.
This review is about the service and the treatment my mother and I received at Breakfast Fuel. We did not get a chance to try the food even though we did order (read on to find out why). My mother and I went here yesterday (Saturday) around 1:30 or 2 in the afternoon. My mother had a latte from a national chain in a paper cup. As we entered, the owner (now I find his name is Tim) told her that if she wanted to drink it in his restaurant, she'd have to put it in a mug because he's a "local" guy (according to his restaurant's website, he moved to Wilmette from Chicago). Well, my mother and father are local, too; they still live in the Wilmette home they bought 40 years ago. Anyway, I started telling my mother we should leave, but she wanted to give the place the benefit of the doubt. My mother's latte was put into a mug, which I told the owner I thought was wasteful, and we were seated. Frankly, if the owner had told us that he didn't allow outside food or drinks, we'd have been fine with that and we'd have gone somewhere else. We were given menus and I selected the veggie burger ($9 on the paper menu I was handed) and my mother ordered eggs and toast. As we ordered, the server noted that my mother already had a coffee and started to write something on her pad. I mentioned that to my mother and we decided to mention that to our server when she returned. Before our server returned, I turned in my chair to look at the restaurant -- my back was to the counter with a chalkboard menu hanging overhead. I noticed that the price of my meal on the chalkboard menu was $11. We mentioned this to our server and she said that the price on the printed menu was a typo, the menu had just been printed, and that we would be charged $11. That is unacceptable. The price on a printed menu should certainly trump the price on an erasable chalkboard. We also mentioned that my mother should not be charged for the coffee she brought in -- our server then laughed at us and said many places charged to serve drinks that are brought in. This was the first time anyone had mentioned any outside drink charge to us. The server approached the owner who came to us and said that the price of my meal was $11 and that was what he would charge. He again said that the price on the printed menu was a typo (why did he not proof-read his menu and make corrections?). When my mother said that we would pay the price printed on the menu from which we ordered, he then yelled at us that he would cancel our order. He ran to the cook and did just that. Then he asked us to leave. At this point, my mother still had half of her latte in the restaurant's mug. I asked the owner for a to-go cup and he said they didn't have any. My mother then chugged most of the remaining latte. The owner then physically herded us out the door, shouting "goodbye, ladies." While he didn't physically touch us, he used his body to usher us out in a very confrontational manner. As we left, my mother asked the owner his name and he said it was "Sam." When she asked his last name, he said "I Am." Is he related to Wil.I.Am? The attitude must run in the family. There will be no second chance for Breakfast Fuel. We do not reward such bad behavior. By the way, I just checked the restaurant's website, and the menu still has the veggie burger listed at $9.

Food is good but not $10 good. I don't mind paying good money for fresh and local food but at least throw in more than a slice of cheese with some pesto thrown on top of my omelette. Sure it comes with potatoes but.... it's just potatoes with some raw green peppers and red onions. Tasty but nowhere I'd go back for and feel like I'm getting my money's worth. I wish they could spruce it up a bit. The service was horrible but she was nice enough, just overwhelmed.... however, they were unprepared for takeout. It took a long time and they didn't have plastic forks, she offered me silverware to take though but I declined... I'm not sure if I'd go back unless it was an early weekday morning and I was really, really hungry...

Horrible, absolutely horrible. we went there with a living social coupon. Got reservation for 6pm, when we arrived at 6 we were told they will only be ready at 6:30, great. once we were in, we got a special coupon menu, what the hell is this ?? I asked for a regular menu as well, a fast comparison discovered that some menu items are the same, but the prices on the 'coupon menu' are almost twice as high and seriously over-priced. I'll also mention the hair in my girlfriend's salad, and the complete absence of kids menu. Over all, it was really bad. 1 star is also too much, scam manu for people who pay with coupon and awefull food, have no idea how they are still in buisness.

We have been regulars here for several months and we feel like the service and food quality has really gone down hill lately. The service is poor and the food has become inconsistent. The owner doesn't really seem to care that much whether customers are satisfied or not. We are sad because we like the local, organic, gluten free option in Wilmette but probably won't be going back.

After finding "Fuel" on yelp while walking the dogs, the wife and I headed out to Fuel... although she thought we were going to Walker Bros, but since I didn't want to pay $8 for a glass of juice in a loud, overcrowded restaurant...we showed up here. A brief step inside had us comfortable, but as beautiful as a morning as we were having, we sat outside. Our waiter was very friendly, brought us menu's and gave us some time. He then answered our questions and took our orders... Tracy stuck with her usual of pancakes and eggs, I went for the Chillaquiles (sp?) and a side of fruit. Quickly both of our orders showed up as placed and we dug in. No issues with anything, nice overall service, good food and tons of choice on the menu for future visits and hopefully next time we'll bring friends along too. They mentioned a dinner menu coming soon, which maybe why the sign and menu just say "Fuel" not Breakfast Fuel. As a side note, there is a hand wash carwash next door, so you could actually get your car washed while chowing down.

I wanted to like this place. I was excited for a new breakfast place in the area. I was hoping this place would give me reasons to come back, but finally after 4 visits I was ready to review it. The first time I went in was by chance. I was getting my car washed at Norm's and the owner of Fuel walked outside and welcome me in. I got a lemonade which I think almost cost me $3. Not worth it. The menu look good and I was excited to come back with my kids, who are breakfast lovers. The second time I went in I took my kids for breakfast. The waitress did not get our order right. She seem confused by my son's request of "fried eggs". I didn't get my coffee until the food came. Definitely a NO-NO in my history of breakfast dining. They don't offer anything but sausage and bacon. Not good for those who prefer chicken or turkey. The food took 30 minutes to arrive, too long for eggs being cooked. Maybe? She didn't come back to check on us and eventually I sent my son for the bill. The third time I went was for my daughter's friend's birthday party. I was excited to see what kind of party they could throw and was looking forward to how fun it could be. The party ran 30 minutes behind and we were sent home with a half cooked pizza and raw dessert. I'm sure it was fun for the girls, but I was not impressed and have check it off my potential birthday places. The fourth and last time, my friend and me went in for breakfast. I noticed they were taking orders on a filled in sheet. (see 2nd experience) It was a Monday morning and we were the only customers. We never got our water refilled and our waiter left before we finished. I asked for more apple butter for our pancakes and the owner brought out cold apple butter. Not a big deal I know, but the apple butter on the pancake is melted. When someone asks for an extra, you bring it out exactly how it is when it's ordered. We were far from being finished, and he gave us the check. It's kind of tacky, especially when you are the only 2 people in the restaurant. Bottom line, is it's over-priced, portions are small, poor service and nothing really makes up for it, other than the decor. I want to like this place, but I'll give it some time before I go back. Obviously, they need to work out their kinks.

With new chef Derek Dwyer bringing a completely revamped menu this place now has some of the best food in Chicagoland. The appetizers are well thought out using seasonally fresh and local ingredients. The mammoth pork chop has a perfect symphony of flavors. The filet served with grilled corn and asparagus is plate cleaning good. This is a must see destination for foodies. All food is local and fresh, a good portion of which is organic. It doesn't get any better.

Really unsure why there are so many negative reviews. I've been to fuel at least 15 times in my life and have never been disappointed with the food or service. Tim, the owner, is incredibly friendly and willing to talk about the food and its sources. I know they change their chefs a lot, but it doesn't seem to make a difference in the quality of food. I'd recommend the "Green eggs and ham" benedict. Perfectly cooked, beautiful on the plate, and rich. For lunch, the moroccan chicken sandwich and the lobster club. Also beautifully served and delicious. Everything here is so fresh tasting and worth the money. Not sure why people are complaining about the prices either. Seems to be in the $8-15 range. Only complaint are the wild children running about; north shore parents can't seem to control them. Can't wait to try dinner. They're having live music this summer on the weekends.

I just had a lovely breakfast at Fuel. It was a beautiful day so we were able to sit outside. Our server was friendly and conversational without hovering. The owner came over to say hello as well. They were setting up for a BBQ that night and said that they have live music weekly. Our meal was great and we'll have to try it out for lunch or dinner sometime! Also, while it's weird that it's next to a car wash, that really didn't bother us even though we were sitting outside. In fact, we got to see some pretty cool cars (and I am not a car person!).

The food is nothing special, the prices are high and the service is RUDE. I live in the area and have seen the owner many times cutting flowers in the Metra parking lot to put on the tables. I guess he is all into local... Makes me wonder where the food is coming from. When you are in the restaurant you can see the cooks putting soup into large dirty containers for storage, the server kicks you as he walks by and doesn't even say sorry. We took a baking class here once and it was the lamest thing. I don't understand why anybody would come here. I'm certainly going to avoid it - especially the rude owner.

Mixed experiences. Love the idea of Farm to Table and fresh food. The strata was okay but not great. Eggs benedict was wonderful and felt fresh. It's a nice place to meet a girl friend but menu is limited and I haven't always loved what I get. Juices are good but pricey. Want to love this place more but it's okay - hope they keep refining to make it better.

I was not impressed with this restaurant at all. I had dinner there and the food was marginal at best. The entire staff including the owner needs to take classes on how to deal with people. When we entered into the establishment instead of "greeting" us with a welcome or hello it was immediately "do you have a reservation".. It was the worst night for it was the first snow storm that we had here. No coat rack to hang coats. The decor is like a hospital very bare, stark, and sickly blue with plastic tables, plastic chairs, and cheap utensils. I am glad I had a Groupon for full price would not be an option. I like the concept but not the atmosphere. The manager was very arrogant at best and needs to obtain people skills. The waitresses come in pairs unless one was being trained that night. I will never go back there for there are better choices to go to for a pleasing meal and pleasing personalities.

Wow, I guess I have just had the bad days at Fuel. I have tried over and over again to like this place, but it keeps failing. Here is a summary of my experiences: 1. They used to make a breakfast sandwich, which was delicious. Now you only have the option of a breakfast burrito. 2. 2nd breakfast experience - Had the portabello eggs benedict. The eggs came completely raw. It was not appetizing whatsoever. I can eat almost anything, but I had to have my order sent back and redone. 3. Had breakfast there with my parents. What a huge disappointment. I was already hesitant to go there after my eggs benedict experience, but my father wanted to go there as he was hoping to have the wonderful egg sandwich he loves, but was informed they no longer had it on the menu (see #1). Our server was kind enough to tell my dad that he could make his own if he ordered the 2 eggs, how kind of her. Oh, and my dad had to pay extra for toast. Doesn't toast usually come with egg orders? Also the thimbleful of jam my dad asked for was hilarious. My mom ordered an omelet. The omelet was so small and came with a handul of hashbrowns. It was the perfect size if you don't like to eat a lot. I had the mueslix, which was good, but for the price I think that it could have come with more than 1 quartered strawberry and a few blueberries. I mean come on! Sorry, but overall I think Fuel is totally not worth your $. Servers are out of it and the food is not good at all. I agree with Lindsey G. I could make a better breakfast at home.

My husband and one year old son came to Fuel for breakfast on Sunday. I liked the place before I even entered the door. Because it's right next to the Wilmette Metra train station, there was tons of parking. Outside there were three teenagers entertaining the patrons with live music. And they were good! As we were leaving we heard them book a gig for a birthday party. The owner seems really nice and you can tell he must be a dad, because this place is kid friendly! My husband had the sausage strata. It was fantastic and I really liked the mushroom sauce that it was served with. I had the veggie sandwich - delicious! It was served on a buttery croissant with egg cheese and assorted vegetables. What was really nice about it was that it was served with your choice of hash, including corn beef hash or chorizo hash. Most places would charge extra for that. My baby had mini pancakes and he seemed to love it and went crazy for the chunks of corned beef that I gave him. The coffee was excellent - very important for a breakfast joint. The owner was telling us that they do cooking classes for kids there too. He even gave us a couple of free cupcakes to sample from one of the classes. Wish my baby was old enough to start classes there now. I'm also going to think about that location for a private parties. The decor, the cupcakes, the parking.... perfect for a kids birthday, bridal or baby shower. Finally, someplace cool in Wilmette.

I really want Fuel to succeed. But it seems confused about what it is. Is it a conscientious restaurant emphasizing locally sourced ingredients? Then what's with the lobster menu. Last I heard lobster doesn't swim in the Great Lakes in May...or any time of the year. Is it a hip sophisticated restaurant? Then what's with the kids bookshelf that encourages children to run around excited about their finds. Is it a family-geared place where it's fine for kids to be loud? Then what's with the sophisticated menu that draws in working adults. I LOVE the concept of a "farm to table" restaurant (as much as that is possible). I like the clean, modern yet still warm and unisex decor. I really want this place to succeed. But I think it needs focus. Decide what you are and then live that vision. Decide what your exceptions are (like bananas for smoothies which obviously are trucked from far away) and don't make more exceptions (like lobster). Otherwise you're really not exhibiting the "farm to table" mission on the website. It's overpriced for what you get. I love the salads but one time about 1/4 of the baby lettuce was stuck together with green goo. In other words, it was not properly washed and dried. It was actually disgusting. Another day I got the arugula salad and it was absolutely perfect--fresh, clean, light and flavorful dressing. However, the $7 salad turned to $9 when I asked for a piece of bread. The salads should come with a piece of bread--one piece. I was given 2 and charged $2. One would be enough. Maybe for 50 cents if you insist on charging. Side note to Fuel: if you are trying to be conscious of your impact on the planet (as it says on the website), try serving water without ice.

I was here over the summer not too long after they started serving dinner. I was very surprised to have such a fabulous place in the burbs. The head chef came from NoMi and has taken fun spins on various dishes. I think the food concepts bring some necessary city flair up to the burbs. For the quality of food, being farm to table, with cared for presentation, the pricing is pretty reasonable. I've been to a handful of dinners at top restaurants in Chicago and this competed directly with them. Service was solid. The owner, chefs, etc. all spoke to to us and we did a little wine paring with our dinner - we enjoyed the personal touch as they explained their culinary concepts and craft. One of the chefs did mention an adult grilled cheese on the brunch menu (4 cheese) and I'm not sure if it's still there but they way he was describing it made it sound amazing. I think the atmosphere might be a bit stark for the comfy burbs but nonetheless, don't let that stop you from trying it out if you're on the North Shore.

I wish there was a separate rating for food and service and another one for general management. We were given a Groupon as a gift to try this restaurant. I called to get a reservation as we were on our way (I hadn't read that I needed one before I got in the car!). The manager (I think), said they were very busy and could we come Tuesday instead? I said no and that we could be there by 11:30 AM. He said they were quite busy and hesitated. I asked if he was unable to take us and he suggested 12:30. We drove around Wilmette and the surrounding area for at least 30 min. and finally decided to go early at 12. The restaurant was half-empty!! He said hello and I said we were early and he motioned with his head to sit at a table for two...no smile, no warm greeting. I have to say the food was wonderful..I had the veggie burger and it was great, as was my husband's pulled pork. Included in our meal was a wonderful, warm chocolate bread pudding. Our server was wonderful as well. When we got our check, nothing was itemized. The Groupon was for breakfast or lunch up to $57. Our items, including my Mimosa and an oj, was $38. We have no idea what the dessert cost, but estimated $10. That brought us to $48. The check just said $57 and that we had to pay the tax on that which was $4.90. I have no idea why they did that. It should have been itemized and the tax should have been on what we actually ate. We tipped on $48..not $57. After reading some of the reviews on here, I think that this owner really has made a mistake. He is offering wonderful, fresh food, but seemed to be annoyed by Groupon users. If he had been more welcoming, and hadn't lied about their "really busy" morning, as well as only charging tax on actual food, I would consider going back. Right now, I'm not too sure. If you don't want to give the Groupon deal, then why did you sign up for it??? I would have given the food and server 5 stars.

We also had a horrible experience trying to make a reservation for our Groupon. In an appalled tone, we were told that Groupon users were procrastinators. We were added to the waiting list, but turned away before we even got both feet inside the door. They said they'd call us, yeah right. Disappointing for a place with so much potential, but we will not go back after the way we were treated both on the phone and in person. Don't offer a Groupon if you can't accommodate the demand it creates. (PS went to Depot Nuevo instead, and had an excellent meal with lovely service!!)

We found this place by chance after walking to our car from the Metra station. This is an amazing place for breakfast. Great atmosphere, very friendly service. The food here is also top notch. It will satisfy your breakfast cravings, but will not make you feel disgusting after chowing down their food. A welcome "find" in Wilmette.

My husband and I had a much needed date night on a Sat. night. We were ready to relax and enjoy the food we read so much about on line at Fuel. We arrived at 7:30pm and were told that they were out of 4 items on the menu. We were disappointed but continued to try to find something. We ordered fish and wine and wanted to order more but they were out of most things. We wanted to order a bottle of wine but were told they were now out of the bottle we wanted so we will just have to drink our glass we ordered. A few min. later the waitress came out to tell us they have now run out of the fish we wanted and only have two main dishes left - neither of which we were in the mood for or wanted. We decided to just leave. The manager made very little effort to persuade us to stay. We found ourselves chugging our glass of wine they delivered. They still charged us for the glass. I found the menu limiting and they only did serve beer and wine and very often don't have the whole bottle to purchase. A very disappointing experience. Would tell people to avoid the restaurant.

My mother and I were startled and very displeased by the lack of tact and appropriate customer service displayed by the manager of this restaurant. We brought in a groupon and in a condescending tone were told that groupon had portrayed inaccurate information regarding its value and that we would only be reimbursed for a percentage of the cost that we paid for the original groupon. I suggest taking your business elsewhere.

Fuel now serves dinner on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights and it's AMAZING. I believe chefs are from NoMi and Tru, but it really doesn't matter because the food is as good as both of those restaurants. I am working my through all of their dinner menu and so far the risotto, lamb, salmon, salads, spring rolls and bruschetta have not disappointed and neither has their desserts--OMG. Seriously good city food in Wilmette. They are currently BYOB, but expect that to change soon. They are very kid friendly and the breakfasts are fantastic too.
Excellent choice for weekend brunch! Tasty menu, and very nice staff. I highly recommend Fuel. We will be back again soon!

Lousy service, okay food (for breakfast). They offered a groupon awhile back and were misleading in its advertising; i felt like they were luring people in, but not wanting to give anything in return. I won't return.

Our church has a Tuesday morning group that meets in the back room at Fuel. The staff is super great and accomodating, as is Tim, the owner. Metropolis Coffee (mmmm), good breakfast selection, if a little pricey, very cute space.

We bought a groupon for this place as we live in evanston and I thought this was just a coffee place. When we arrived the place was empty and the music was blasting(they were preparing a weekend charity dinner) and they were banging and pounding .The owner turned down the music and we told him we had a groupon. He said we were supposed to have called and made a reservation and then turned the music back up! Don't go on groupon if u r going to b rude to the people who purchase them!THE PLACE WAS EMPTY! Having said that the mushroom flatbread and fire roasted tomato soup was excellent, the gnocchi was pretty good and the chicken marsala quite good. The wine is overpriced. The owner came over and asked about the food later and did an about face, the waitress was very nice and the service was good.

Good food, very fresh. Lots of good choices. Found the owner to be pleasant and engaging. A great addition to the restaurants in the area!

PROS: 1. My kids have done cooking classes there a few times, and loved it. 2. They also love the books and wiki-sticks. 3. The owner, Tim, and cooking teacher, Meghan, couldn't be nicer. CONS: 1. Even simple orders take a long time (pancakes, scrambled eggs . . .should be easy, right?). My bowl of soup last time took a full 20 minutes!! I noticed other customers commenting on the same thing. 2. The bread is NOT GOOD! We don't buy from Heavenly Hearth b/c its bread is all just hard and overcooked. So that's no selling point for us. If they want to go local try Great Harvest. 3. I like most of the food. But, my one son only eats pancakes and Fuel's pancakes aren't great. Nice try to make them healthier, but they crumble and fall apart. A breakfast restaurant should have really good pancakes.

Really nice fresh new place that reminds me of what we used to enjoy down in the city. Very interesting menu. Tim, the proprieter, is very friendly and the staff are efficient and stylish. Nice flair for the sometimes stodgy North Shore. Prices are maybe just a little higher than other local breakfast options but worth it.. Looking forward to checking out one of their cooking classes with my kids...

Farm to table restaurant! Many items on the menu are raised locally. I LOVE the corned beef hash! It's like nothing you've ever tried before!!! Great smoothies too. The service can be a little slow at times but the food is so good you won't care.

When Fuel initially opened my husband and I were so excited that a decent breakfast place was coming to the neighborhood and we would no longer have to drive down to the city... Unfortunately, after trying Fuel out 3 different times it doesn't seem like we are going to get a great breakfast place in the 'hood after all.. The menu sounds enticing but the actual food just does not live up to the descriptions... Service is slow for easy preparations and most every time we have visited the food has been cold and overcooked... Particularly the strata, such a disappointment for one of my favorite breakfast dishes... The space is cute and I think they really want to be unique but they just aren't..

An update since my last post. We decided to give Fuel another try despite being aggravated over the Groupon and reservation. First, a big thumbs up to the chef. We throughly enjoyed the prosciutto and mushroom flatbread pizzas, loved the sweet potato gnocchi, vegetarian napoleon and roasted chicken although more of app size than entree size. We tried a couple salads - pickled fennel, bibb and caprese - all just okay. My husband had the tomato basil soup. It was his least fav of all the courses. I have to make a couple of comments about Tim, owner. The Groupon gave us a bottle of wine up to $38. Tim only gave us two options - a house white or house red even though there were four more bottles of wine to choose from. When I inquired about the other wines he said house white or red comes with the Groupon and never told us how much the other wines sold for. I didn't push back as we were dining out with new friends. Tim also insisted many times that we "keep our fork" after each course. Odd. Fuel must be in low supply of them. As a business owner, Tim was not at all friendly but rude and never came to ask us if we enjoyed our food or to thank us on our way out. Our waitress made up for Tim. She was very nice and attentive. To sum up my experience at Fuel. Loved the food. Don't care for the owner. We will not return.

My husband and I have been fans of Fuel for years, but we love it even more now that they are serving dinner. We have had breakfast and lunch there many times and have always been pleased with both the food and the service. In the last few months we have had dinner there twice and both have been terrific experiences. The food is fresh, healthy, imaginative, beautifully presented and delicious. The service was friendly, professional, and attentive without being intrusive. We are delighted to have such a wonderful dining option within walking distance of our home. Thank you Tim and the wonderful staff at Fuel!

Dear Tim, We are so sad to hear of the continuing downward slide of your restaurant. We like you so much as a wonderful person and wanted SO MUCH to have Fuel succeed. Wilmette and the entire North Shore needs you SO MUCH! Please consider visiting the following breakfast joints to review their service, menus, and total commitment to best practice breakfasts: Walker Brothers Pancake House, Sunshine Cafe, M. Henry, Yolk, Toast, etc. Look at great menus, variety, PORTIONS and PORTION CONTROL. You must pay attention to these details which are sadly lacking at FUEL: A really well trained staff (an everyday commitment to professionalism). Best coffee in town served hot, and where the customer NEVER has to ask for refills. Masters at all things egg. Example: egg white orders should not be complicated! Speed and efficiency. Period. Get a computerized order system. Portion control. So what if the customer has to go home with a doggie bag, or the creamer and jam pots are filled to the brim. A sense of generous portions just adds to the "feel good ambiance" of your establishment. Did I mention portion control? Sometimes our potato hash comes with flavorful chorizo, and sometimes with microscopic specs of chorizo in a 1/4 cup dab on the plate. Or the blintzes that were the size of quarters. How about the chicken sandwich.....two shavings of chicken the size and thickness of half-dollars? Did you know that the rest of the entire country uses a "Whole" grilled chicken breast in their sandwiches? It is expected. Perhaps a less stylized version of "locally grown" and more comfort food is needed.....how about lox and bagels as a regular item, or turkey/ chicken sausages? How about more salads that are larger, with generous amounts of beautiful ingredients and one of your delicious muffins on the side. Do you have ANY idea how much money women will spend on lunches with their girlfriends??? Please, please figure this out quickly....everything points to you having the hottest and hippest breakfast joint on the North Shore.

Been in four times now. Enjoyable place with decent food, although a bit inconsistent. First time, delicious oatmeal, loose and al dente. Second time, a little gloppy and thick, third time a tight overcooked lump. Oh well, the Mexican style omelette is good, as is the coffee. Nice upbeat atmosphere and friendly people.

(5)Jeremy K.

(4)Jill Y.

(4)Joel W.
Was a regular for a couple years. I was always prepared for poor service but with the price increases in addition to the consistently poor service (never refill coffee...asking for check...missing extra sides ordered) there are too many other great options.
(1)Aly N.
(4)John L.

(4)Ana W.

(4)Stephen D.
(1)Hui C.
Went to the car wash place next door and did not expect good food here! The chicken salad is amazing! And the portion is large...
(5)Phillip W.
Amazing fresh fruit!!! I had the grilled cheese and it was so good. I will be coming back for sure. Great quite date spot for breakfast or brunch!!!!
(5)Jim K.
Best breakfast around. Service is excellent. Dinner - limited menu but food always very well prepared - sensible portions - specials are interesting & always worth ordering. Service very good. Tim runs an excellent restaurant. Taken guests there and they call it 'our' private restaurant.
(5)Cindy S.
Not happy !
(2)Janice R.
(3)Erica A.

(1)pete j.
(1)Brian A.
My wife an I love this place for breakfast and are meaning to try it for lunch/dinner. We always get the chilaquiles. She gets them with chorizo, which is 'off the menu.'
(5)Sandy W.
(5)Joaquin M.
Brunch here is amazing green chilachiles are so good I'd recommend it to everyone who wants to try something new. My parents and I have brunch there not so long ago and they want to come back soon. Service is great and the food is even better.
(5)Judith M.
I had the most delicious omelette there last Sunday morning. Today I am eating Salmon Benny's yummy.
(5)Karen F.
standard menu items with a twist..... wonderful find
(5)Steve A.
A good place for breakfast. The chilaquiles and pancakes were both fine, not particularly remarkable. The side order of ham was generous and very tasty, sourced (as are many of their offerings) from a local provider. Service was friendly and attentive.
(3)Courtney J.
Best Mediterranean chicken salad I've had. Very simple but fresh ingredients with wonderful flavor. And the service was excellent.
(5)Maria G.

(4)Kate R.
(1)Jamie B.
(2)Natalie B.
(2)AnneMarie T.
(1)Rick C.

This place was awesome! Great food, amazing service... So sad that a bunch of snarky reviewers are pulling down the overall rating. Ignore them, this place is wonderful!

This is a great local restaurant and I definitely will try it again! Service was great, different than what some of the negative reviews suggest, they have some interesting takes on the usual breakfast items, and all in all a nice alternative to Walker Brothers and other run-of-the-mill places.

Just had their crab Benedict, amazing! And their hash browns are mixed with other meats such as corn beef.

(5)Marie D.

Best coffee ever! Fresh local organic breakfast, lunch and dinner; super tasty and beautiful presentation located in heart of Wilmette.

If you're looking for a relaxing yet "different" spot to have brunch... this is the place to go! Being that the restaurant is outside of the city actually adds to its appeal. So many times I want to go check out a new restaurant in the city but reconsider because of the traffic, parking, etc. I have been to Fuel countless times and have not been disappointed... yet. Wait-wise I have never had any issues-- I am usually seated within 5-10 minutes of arriving (not that the place isn't busy). The décor of the place is something I really enjoy as well. If you're into a simple yet modern setting you will love the place! The bright colors and simple furniture always seem to brighten up my mood. The food rocks. This is not your usual, plain breakfast. The food/sauce combinations are truly one of a kind. My top choices are the breakfast burrito and Genny's Benny (poached eggs with braised pork belly atop toasted brioche). The pancakes are scrumptious as well! You can also build your own omelet, side options are available, and from what I remember there are "kids options". I definitely recommend this place and am looking forward to stopping by myself, being that the restaurant has added lunch to its menu!

(3)Leon B.
(1)M M.
(2)Shaun S.

Very mediocre dining experience and average food that's pricey.

(1)Mark I.
Great place. Fun atmosphere. Easy spot to meet, network and work. Good coffee and a friendly team of service. I'm going back!
(5)Brett C.

Best breakfast in Wilmette
(4)Carolyn F.
(4)Katie L.
(4)Krista M.

Farm fresh food with a mellow mood

Cute neighborhood, but slow service with food I could have made better in my kitchen. I agree with Jessica F. fuel has an identity crises.

Service was excellent and a very nice location next to the train station. THumbs up.

My husband and I had a wonderful experience at Fuel- Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious! We have met friends there and plan to go with a party of 8 in the next two weeks! Great food, great service and great vibe!

Fuel is off to a good start, but it definitely needs some fine tuning (mostly in the service flow) if it is going to last. We stopped by for brunch on Sunday morning. The menu is limited (soy milk pancakes? What if you can't have soy?) and pricey ($9 for an omelet before you add in the ingredients? $10 for two eggs, sausage, and potatoes? If you're going to be more expensive than Walker Bros, you better knock my socks off.). While the food was quite good (I had blueberry pancakes), it didn't justify the markup. And though some have knocked the décor, I thought it was lovely. Huge windows provide lots of natural light. There is outdoor seating, and the cul de sac location provides a calm, neighborhood feel. Inventive twisty sticks for kids are a nice diversion from the usual crayons. But while the staff was friendly and busy, they need help. Many of the things that are second nature at most restaurants seemingly hadn't been thought through - or Fuel was unexpectedly understaffed that morning, and each person had to wear many hats to adjust. One person told us to sit anywhere; another pointed us to a specific table. When the coffee arrived, there was no cream. When the cream was gone, there was no refill. When a server arrived to refill coffees, we said that only one of us had regular (two had decaf), so he took away the regular and didn't give us coffee at all. Five minutes later, when we asked for more coffee, they said the decaf was brewing. (Why wasn't it brewing ten minutes earlier?) When someone spilled some water on the floor, a waitress, clearly uncomfortable with mopping, grabbed a mop and proceeded to spread the water around - increasing the hazard, rather than cleaning it up. I very much want to see places like this do well, but it still needs some work.

Went for dinner with my husband and friends this past weekend! Wonderful food and amazing service.

Somehow the 2 got selected instead of 1! This is SO not a 2
