Stopped in for lunch. Great service. Cathy was super cool and friendly. Food was yummo! Tried the cheese balls, had a steak taco and a chicken taco great flavors!!!

Came here for St. Patties day and it was obviously super crowded but we had a good time. Drinks were average price but it was impossible to get a seat. There was no order, we asked a waiter to be put on list for table and they said it was first come first serve and we didn't feel like jumping over people and fighting for a table so we just stood up. They do have bands playing outside and inside. Came here a different night, just an average Friday night. Got the worst service ever. I had to ask the waitress literally four times for a glass of water with my dinner. We ordered nachos and they came out cold. We sent them back and they obviously just threw the entire plate- sour cream, guac, and all back in the oven which was so gross. For nachos that expensive you would think they would just make you a fresh batch and bring them out on time. To top it all off the waitress tried to charge us for an extra drink. The place just put a bad taste in my mouth...literally.

I visited the Kerry Piper for lunch on St Patrick's day, so I knew things would be busy. The restaurant was full and there was a select menu for the day. Food was OK, service was slow, but I do think this was mainly due to the holiday. The interior is very cozy and authentic. There was great live music and a lively crowd. It was a perfect lunch spot for a festive day, but I probably wouldn't return regularly.

A nice Irish pub tucked away and hidden near old Route 66. The steak sandwich was decently priced and the fries with it were great. A a great Irish pub look makes this place worth a visit if your Irish a d like to drink in this area

UPDATE: Can't imagine anyone saying the service isn't good. We go here every week and have for a long time. Service is Always excellent. Everyone so courteous and efficient. Recently I sent an email suggesting they think about adding fried pickles as an appetizer....a favorite of mine. Didn't really expect an reply, but the manager emailed a few hours later to say she spoke to the chef and he said they would add them, but in the meantime, just ask and they'll make them for us. Tell me that's not awesome! The food here is excellent. It's a friendly, fun place.

Had dinner here after a long day on the road. chosen due to it being close to our hotel, was pleasantly surprised at how good everything was. Some of the best corned beef I have had, Shepard's pie was yummy too. The fish n chips was only ok and the Stroganoff was super yummy. We would return for sure!

I love this place. I frequent plenty, and I will say I always bring a new friend there. It's close to home. But what I love about this place, is the atmosphere casual and comfortable. The food is always fresh, and never have any complaints. Sometimes we lose the Bartender or waitress, but this place is usually packed when I go. Good times.

Was better in the 1990's before it became so popular that it seems like you're always jammed in there like sardines. Good tap selection that goes beyond the normal British favorites, including Hoegaarden and others. I liked the boxty entree and chips aren't too bad. Bands are a nice touch, but harder to enjoy nowadays because of the overcrowding issue. For those who don't know, it's down the same street as the famous Chicken Basket restaurant that you see from the freeway.

Dinner at the Kerry Piper was pretty good. Typical Irish pub, darts board, etc...The place was surprisingly empty for a Sunday night, but hey whatever. They have a big selection of beers on tap, which was nice. I had the blackened tuna sandwich with seasoned fries and three (!) pints of Newcastle: it all hit the spot just fine, no complaints. My friend however, after asking the waiter for a suggestion, was recommended the chicken pot pie... When our food arrives, the so-called pot pie looks suspiciously like a bowl of chicken soup. The waiter's apology: "Oh yeah... sorry... we ran out of crust for the pie." WTF? You recommend the pot pie when you're out of crust, don't mention anything, bring a bowl of freaking chicken stew, and expect us not to notice this looks nothing like a pot pie?! He was nice enough to take it back and offer another dish in replacement: lamb stew, with looked uncannily like the previous dish, but for a slightly darker coloring. Also, what's up with last call for alcohol at 10pm?! Is this an Irish pub or what?

We were only there for a couple of drinks before the place started to get really busy. For being as busy as they were I was surprised that the crowd did not get on my nerves. I am not a big fan of loud, obnoxious crowds. I like going to a little place and enjoying good company, and relaxing. I was able to do all of the above here. This will have to be one of my suburban hangouts when I am out that way.

If yer in for some drinking and ya don't care how ya come out. This is the place. It was a hot day and I was parched. We stopped for a couple of beers. The bar tenders were extra friendly. Large pour and excellent service. Will come back for the food as I know it's delicious.

They have some good food but my favorite thing to get is the French dip soup with cream cheese balls. They have a cool Irish atmosphere and this is a very popular place to go in the Willowbrook area. They have friendly staff also and cool people that visit.

Not much to say about this spot. Nice little towny/cozy feeling bar with cool woodwork and atypical architecture inside. Beer selection kind of sucks but they will occasionally have an awesome bells on tap. The food I've tried has been just bar style appetizers and they've been up to snuff. Typical stuff. Service is alright, not horrible, not great. They keep you're drink filled if you pester them about it enough. I'll probably continue to stop in if enticed by a pretty lady or good friends but I don't think I'd ever suggest this spot as a go to.

We enjoyed The Kerry Piper. Following advice from Roxanne E., we were able to sit in front of the fire and stayed toasty all during dinner. Our server, Jay was attentive and helpful. I had the Taste of Ireland (yum!) including corned beef (juicy), shepherds pie (tasty), fish (tender) and chips (so-so). My wife had the rosemary chicken (a bit tough). Smithwicks for me and a cabernet for wife. If you are using map quest or google maps, the restaurant is misplaced. Use the frontage road north of 83 (Kingery), turning at the just before Target. There is a small sign.

After longing for some good ol' Irish pub food I decided to check them out. The food was good, the atmosphere was good, the service was great. I had the taste of Ireland which includes fish and chips, shepherds pie and corned beef and cabbage. All of it was very good but the fries were way too salty. Other than that I was very pleased.

Excellent suburban Irish pub. Good food. Good pints. Have never had a bad experience and we've been going there for years.

Great Irish food, used to be better, the only reason why I gave 4 stars instead of 5, is their portion sizes have decreased noticeably, and the quality is starting to slip. The last 2 times I got the corned beef, it was really tough. I hope they can get their act back to the way it was, because I really like this place.

Stopped in to have a beer and order diner for the family. What a horrible experience. First it takes the bartender 10 minutes to complete her conversation and come and take my order. Then refuses to write it down though I tell her I'm ordering for six. Of coarse she forgets and has to ask again. I order an order of advertised $2 dollar cheese sticks and she tells me she has to charge me full price because I placed a to go order. Are you kidding? I just spent more than anybody in the bar. Worst part, I could swear she enjoyed it. Proprietor, please note that your Tuesday night bartender is horrible. I can't be the first customer she has cost you.

Decent Irish Pub with a nice patio. The band area is a little tight because it faces the bar with only a few yards in between. Good food and beer selection. If you are out in the western burbs and looking for a place to meet up with friends, I highly recommend this place. It can be hard to find if you don't know the area because it is buried behind some hotels and a Target.

We decided to try this place because several reviews for our hotel recommended it, as well as the hotel desk clerk. We're glad we did. We ordered a Pog Mo Thoin burger and a Reuben sandwich with seasoned fries. The burger was on a pretzel bun and very tasty. The Reuben had a surprisingly mild flavor, yet it was also very good. The seasoned fries were good, but a bit spicier than I anticipated. When we went, it wasn't very crowded, but the music was pretty loud. But it is a pub, so that wasn't unexpected.

I went to Kerry Piper the saturday before St. Pat's day for the Larkin & Moran Brothers. This is their "home" bar and have played here frequently. They had a large heated tent outside. Parking was difficult but with a lot of people expected. On tap outside - Guinness, Harp, Smithwick's, etc. My friend had been there before and she said food good so I will probably go back again. I will edit after experiencing inside. But it is a fine place. About corned beef and cabbage - it is not really an dish popular in Ireland, BUT made popular here in the USA so most irish places have it. But yes I will go back.

The Kerry Piper makes baby leprechauns cry. I was a regular at The KP back in 2000 and have slowly stopped going due to "improvements" management has made which was decreasing food quality, removing some of the best dishes on the menu, and slow service. This place used to be packed every Saturday night, but when I went recently to see a friend's band, it wasn't very crowded. Despite the slow night, it still took me 10+ minutes to get a beer at the bar. I think I'll stick to only visiting once a year on St. Patrick's Day for a pint of Guinness and some Irish music.

I have been to The Kerry Piper a few times and had decent experiences. The bartenders are great. However, I wanted to take my boyfriend out for a drink on his birthday, which was a Tuesday and even though they advertise as being open until 1am, they were most certainly closed at around 12am. I work nights so it was the only time that we had together and when we got there, the parking lot was basically deserted and no one answered the phone to check on if they were open. It was very disappointing.

My friend introduced me to Kerry Piper. I came here for after work drinks and dinner with an old friend and we had a good time. It was pretty typical pub food. I ordered the shepherd's pie and it was good! She ordered a burger that she also enjoyed. The sweet potato fries were yummy. It just felt like a standard pub. Nothing super special about it. Probably won't return.

This place used to be a favorite pub of mine. It is rustic and worn and the building is actually from Ireland. The new management has made some changes that I don't particularly care for with the menu and staff. The atmosphere is wonderful. The shows are usually quite good and its a fun place to get together with your mates. The food is usually yummy though I have had one or two disappointments. The beer and drink selection is what keeps us coming back. Its a little hard to find if you're not familiar with the area but worth looking for.

I've come to the Kerry Piper since it was built with materials made in Ireland. I always thought the food and ambience was pretty decent. We stopped in for a nightcap last night. No food. The service was REALLY slow. People were waiting in line to get in because empty table had not been bussed. We almost left for another place. Wasn't amused when a waiter kicked a knife on the floor over to the bus tubs. Not impressed when they used the same bus tub to hold trays of food as they delivered them. Ew. Maybe it was just an off night, but I think there are better Irish options.

This is a pretty cool little place. There really aren't many bars in the area, unless you go to the downtown are of one of the surrounding towns. All of that means that the Kerry Piper fills a much needed niche. It has a cool, somewhat authentic Irish atmosphere. It's a pretty cool place to hangout, regardless of your age (seems like one half of the room is all people under 25 and the other half is made up mostly of people north of 40).The location leaves a lot to be desired and the parking lot is rough. Food desperately needs an upgrade and while there is live music sometimes, that is definitely an aspect of this place that is being underutilized.

I really enjoy coming here in the winter time when they have the fireplace in full roar with a nice pint of Guinness in my hand. This has been one of my favorites in the burbs since turning 21. The food is pretty good as well, although I've mainly had their burgers. It's always crowded, so if you show up on a weekend, be sure to arrive early!

  • Chris B.

This place is hard to find, but its worth it to try at least once. Ive never seen it entirely packed, but there is plenty of room both inside and out in the beer garden. There is a stage for live acts... although I've yet to be really impressed with those. The crowd is definitly older, and I've heard from people that they like it that way. One night a week (Wednesday I think) they have their huge pub burger and fries for $1.00. It is plain though, any other topping will cost you .75 cents. Plenty of beer to choose from, but don't expect to get one for under $4.

Hadn't been to the KP in a long time, but it was chosen as a party venue for my dad so a small crowd convened on Monday night. About 15 people gathered for the event and they put us in the small "back room" area (under the stone arch, past the bar), which is a bit removed from everything else, so was perfect. Service was unobtrusive but managed to keep things flowing even as new waves of people arrived. Food was good: we had an assortment of bar snacks as appetizers (wings, Harp Strings, some kind of corned beef chimichanga things), and for an entree I had the fish and chips, which was good but not as great as I remember here, honestly. Naturally you can get any kind of cocktail, but one member went traditional with Black and Tans (no IRA jokes, please). Overall, it was a good place for the event and fine as far as the fare. I would return in the future.

This place knows how to throw one hell of a St. Patrick's Day party over St. Patrick's Day weekend....they, however make a KILLING doing it. So I started my St. Patty's Day Weekend in downtown Naperville and then met friends over at this place. Not that this place should be compared to Naperville establishments, but I'll set out the scenario.... This place is practically in the middle of an industrial area. They were charging for valet parking, we opted not to do that so we parked a few blocks down with the majority of the crowd. In order to head into their large tent out back you had to go in through the bar and pay a $10 cover!!! Yes, $10 and that included nothing...or, as the guy at the door said "for the band Maggie Speaks" Yeah, well the band played for an hour-ish and really not worth the $10 to hear a band sing to backing tracks. They had other entertainment here too and I get the bar has to pay for the entertainment somehow...just a tad bitter over paying that cover and to follow the $5.50 draft beers out back in the tent. This is an Irish Pub plus some so if that is what you are seeking for some fun...this would be your place. I have no idea what it's like when it's not St. Patrick's Day weekend, but in the few hours I was here I spent way more than intended.

OK, so I'll start by describing the place. Nice wood furnishings, warm and comfortable, and typical Irish bar atmosphere with a nice big bar. Also during nice weather they have lots of outdoor seating and a great porch area. The beer selection is pretty descent, with your typical Irish selections. Although, I must state that they have $2 points on Tuesday nights, even imports!!!! It's amazing! The food is good, but nothing I've got to have. Typical Irish fare, maybe somewhat better than most. But nothing unusual really. The corned beef is pretty good, and the Bass battered fish and chips is tasty. But again, it just doesn't really stand out. I've never had anything bad there, just nothing incredibly amazing either. Service is pretty good, especially at the bar. The bartenders are friendly and helpful. Overall a nice place to go. Wonderful on Tuesdays!

First and foremost, I have been to Kerry Piper numerous times. Every time I went, I was excited to get the pot roast Boxty. Sadly, they recently changed the menu, and the Boxties have been removed. In fact, many of the Irish items have been removed including the Guinness beef tips. This Irish pub is now American pub grub with some staple Irish dishes like a Reuben and corned beef and cabbage. I had the Shepard's Pie (yes, one of the few Irish items) and it was pretty good. My mother had Fish 'N Chips, which was overlooked and dry. The other three had burgers, which ranged from "over cooked" to "decent" to "okay". The beer selection is still nice, and the atmosphere is about as Irish as it comes, including live music the night I was there. Overall, I was disappointed in the changes, but it does still have redeeming qualities.

Stopped here for dinner and beers with some work pals and had a solid time. They've got a ton of great bar food on the menu and good beers on tap. The venue was fairly quiet when we arrived, but was due to pick up with trivia on the agenda for the evening. I was out of there before the festivities, but it definitely looked like a good time. It's off the beaten path and you'll feel like one of the locals coming here.

Great updated menu full of pub and Irish fare. Friendly staff and cozy Irish pub atmosphere. Beer selection is average, nothing very outlandish. Good fish options during lent-- I loved the tuna steak! Great place for a casual night w friends. Outdoor patio is decent- looks out onto a storage facility and has 55 as background noise though. Very much love this place!

The atmosphere is fun and energetic. Bartender was all over the restaurant instead of serving the bar. The food was good enough. Highly recommended the cheese balls, those are the only reason I would go back!

First time i ate there was about a yr ago & i ordered the shepards pie & i thought it was pretty good . I ordered the shepards today & they must have changed the menu because now it says twice baked shepards pie & its def not the same or even close to being as good as before. I will not be ordering it again thats for sure

They accommodated our group of 10 on their patio Saturday evening with short notice. I really liked their menu offerings & the food was excellent. Lots of interesting choices, it was difficult to choose! Unfortunately the service was not great. The waitress seemed flustered during our entire visit. The wait between our beer orders was lengthy & our appetizers never came out. She did give us a couple free desserts at the end to make up for it.

This used to be a good place but I still can't get over the disappointment of my last visit. I went for lunch the Friday before St. Pat's Day- four days before the holiday. We were hoping for a nice lunch and to watch a little basketball. First, if you upgrade the flat screens pay the extra 10 bucks for HD, otherwise they look terrible and outdated and you can pick up some old style TVs on curbs and install those for the same effect. Second, this was lunch hour four days before a holiday, and not at all busy. Do a group of patrons in their 40s, 50s and 60s really need paper plates and plastic cups, forks and knives? Did we look like we'd start a riot and break all the glass because some band was playing eight hours later? I felt like I was on a grade school field trip. Coffee, beer, soup- all paper or plastic containers. Did you fire the entire kitchen staff and buy a lot of garbage bags to save money? This isn't a bar in Wrigleyville. If you want to compete with Emmett's and Countryhouse and other pubs serving food treat us like adults when we come in to eat. That means more than a one page "special" menu and disposable dishware. If you expect a lot of drunken white trash out in the parking lot at night to hear the band and drink cheap beer give them the plastic cups and fire up the neon Old Style and Bud signs. I'll skip this place after Sox games this summer and find a pub for grown ups.

It's not easy to find unless you're a local, but considering the choices in the area I'd be likely found here drinking a cocktail, if I drank. I have worked in the bar/club industry for 2 decades & it's a decent Irish Pub. If you're hungry get there early cause the kitchen closes at 9pm.

Gave this place a second chance the other night and The Kerry Piper managed to kick it up a notch. We still had a groupon to use and we went with another couple. Us men folk ordered Newcastle Ale and had the fish and chips. The ladies went with tea; one ordered a Boxty and the other (my date) ordered the corned beef and cabbage. Service was a little friendlier and snappier this night as the waitress was attentive and pleasant. We started with the gourmet pretzels and this was a really nice treat. Soft pretzels with spicy mustard and some cheese sauce. Go with the mustard, the hot pretzels with the spicey brown mustard was something I could have made a meal out of. Fish and chips were great, fish had a nice balance of fish and breading, chips were fresh cut russets and tasted great. Malt vinegar on table was right on. My date raved about the corned beef and cabbage again. Corned beef and cabbage is something that you really don't feel like making yourself so it's nice to have a place that does it right. The Boxty was OK but wasn't terribly exciting. Beer was nice and smooth, food was good, service was attentive. Kerry Piper is getting there. But the lighting is still something that I can't get used to.

Upon reading other reviews I hesitated giving this restaurant this high review but no I thought they deserve this so here it goes!! I've been to this restaurant but maybe a decade ago?? This restaurant is kind of a hidden gem! Tucked in a corner of the old Rt. 66 section on Joliet Rd. maybe a block away from Del Rhea's Chicken Basket (another hidden gem) if this place was only going on the whole interior/ exterior factor they'd win hands down for their old, out of date seating! Majorly needs a face lift!! There is a reason it's so dark in there! Plus its basically a bar serving food. But basically if you can go in with an open mind- it helps! We had some appetizer that was surprisingly good, it was corned beef and swiss deep fried then served with 3 different sauces. Then Mom and I both had the beef stroganoff which was extremely good!! It's been a long, long time since having food like this! Grandma would be proud! We had a few more dollars to spend so we got their creme brûlée, which also was to die for! So all in all if you can have an open mind and deal with their uncomfortable seating then give them a try! They currently have a Groupon running so perfect time to check them out!

I've been here a few times, including St Pat's day, and finally decided to write a review after having dinner here last night. The food has always been pretty average. It's a big menu, but nothing I've had has been great or flavorful. The best part about this place is the interior. Lots of nice touches to make you feel like you're in Ireland. The patio is nice for the warm weather, but unless you like to look at the highway and a storage yard, there's not much of a view. Although the cheese sauce had a lot of onions in it, the pretzel appetizer was the best thing off the menu. The Bushmills burger was way too small for the price and the "whiskey sauce" was lacking real flavor; I almost forgot it was there. The seasoned fries were good, but the portion was tiny. I've had some of their Irish dishes, and those are somewhat better. However for the price, I expected them to be better and bigger. The beer options aren't really impressive either. If you love every type of Miller and Budwesier variation on the market, then you're in for a treat. But drinks aren't cheap either- almost $6 for a Bell's. Come for some drinks and apps only when there's live music. There's other places in the area with better food.

After two nights of bad meals and really poor service at two other restaurants in this area, our group of four was looking forward to some good old comfort food on Saturday night. The Kerry Piper did not let us down!!! My Shepard's Pie was wonderful, my husband rated the Fish and Chips as great, and our friends had the Corned Beef and Cabbage which they loved! Our waiter was wonderful! Once he found out it was our first visit to The Kerry Piper, he made menu recommendations on the popular items. He also willingly made a substitution of broccoli for potatoes for those who ordered the corned beef and cabbage but were also watching their waistline. He checked back with us several times during our meal. His service level and warm smile earned him the extra tip money we shorted our horrible Thursday and Friday night waitresses! We will definitely return to The Kerry Piper on our next trip to the area.

Update-decent place to come, just not on St Patricks day. Bar food mostly, musty dark atmosphere, but we still like it on off nights when it's not crowded.

I like this place. They have a nice patio outside. The inside stinks like old beer, but the food is good. I especially like, NO, love the cajun steak bites!!! The corn beef sandwiches are really well done too. Lots of meat. Not too chewie. Perfect toasted bread. Everything else is just OK. French fries being the weakest link. Now the service on the other hand, that's another thing. If you are a heavy drinker, wether it's water, tea or booze, don't expect fast service. They WILL forget about you. Seriously, we had to get another waiter to get our waiter who left for lunch break or whatever the case. We've tried this place a few times. Groupon brought us in the first couple times and we liked it enough to go back without a deal. Still, I wold not make the trek out just for this place. If you have other things to do in the area, or want a nice ride, OK, but not just for the food. Overall, decent Irish American pub. Hopefully they can work on the wait staff and smells.

Went here for lunch a number of times back when I worked nearby. It's not a bad little place -- the atmosphere and decor are pretty nice, but how authentic I can't say (I've never been to Ireland). The food was always good in my experience. However, like a lot of "Irish Pub" type places the menu is actually targeted to a wide variety of tastes (e.g., nachos, spring rolls). Went here only once during evening hours and they actually had live music going on. Worth a visit if you work/live nearby or are just passing through the area.

My friend's boyfriend plays gigs here sometimes, so we come to show our support and get our drink on. It's kind of a fun place to do it, somewhere between an Irish pub, a dive bar and a grill. I'm not even sure how to describe it. The last time I came was around Halloween, and they had the giant, fake stone wall and covered with cobwebs. Drink specials were pretty good. They have your regular Irish drink on tap, domestic and imported bottles. My personal favorite will always be hard cider. It wasn't too expensive, either. But the best part about Kerry Piper is most definitely the Big Buck Hunt. Picture if you will, two inebriated girls battling to the death on this giant arcade game. I started out strong and impressed my friend. She asked where I learned to hunt and I reloaded, looked her straight in the eye and said, "I'm from Minnesota."

This review is about the pub only. I have not eaten here. It has the rich, warm feel of an Irish bar, with a couple of "snugs" off to the side. There are many options for seating, bar, high tables, booths, pulling tables together, etc. They always have lots of beer on tap, Stella was my choice (my recent adventure into veganism put all British beers and all the food off limits) and they had the proper glass. It is stumbling distance to the hotel so it's a double ++ for me. I'm always back whenever I'm in town.

This Kerry Piper reminded me of this one pub I went to in Ireland where they would do their best to ignore you if you were American because they know you're on vacay and the chances of you coming back are slim... except everyone in this Kerry Piper is American so the poor service really has no excuse. The place itself is decent, though it could use a little lower of a lighting level. Exposed brick walls, a few sectioned off dining areas, and the Irish version of kitschy covered walls make up its interior. We enjoyed their Tuesday $2 apps and $2 pints- almost worthy of a fourth star, but the service is just so slow that I'd say it's Irish luck that I'm still awarding the 3 stars. We did have a large group but our server didn't even try to look at faces to get orders at times. It was frustrating but we eventually learned that if you want a drink you need to order them 2 by 2 because they take so long to arrive (think upwards of 15 minutes) that you'll be done with your first before your second gets to you. That's not to say that the bartenders are slacking- they weren't from what we could see. We had a decent view of the bar's service station and could see when our drinks would come up, and sit, and sit, and sit. There appeared to be no teamwork among staff to help each other out, even though the place wasn't very busy at all; and if there was a manager there, you wouldn't know it. Our food was alright. Most that got food had the same grumblings- it was cold (prob had been sitting somewhere for a while like the drinks) and my veggie sandwich was so soggy (and cold) it fell apart the first time I tried to pick it up. I don't know that I'd go back but the boys were certainly interested in returning for the $2 Tuesday pint special.

I had a life-changing sandwich here last weeked - the Mum's Toasty cheese sandwich with the tomato rosemary dipping sauce. I am still dreaming about it, 5 days later. DELISH

I finally had my first Reuben and I'm glad that I got it here. This place is really cool. Everything is very Irish about it. The outside looks like an old farmhouse/ tavern and the inside is dimly lit with dark wood everywhere. The menu wasn't all Irish, which is fine because some people would prefer their salads over Shepard's pie and it's good that they accommodate. We ordered the calamari as an appetizer. I was kind of iffy about that but it was really good. One of the best I've had in a while. I ordered the Reuben and my boyfriend had gotten the pub burger. We always split our food when we go out just so we can try more. The Reuben was awesome. The corned beef was tender, the sauerkraut was tart, the dressing was really good and the bread was the perfect compliment. Their pub burger though tasted like it was a frozen patty. I was kind of disappointed with that because it really is not that hard to have fresh burgers and it makes a big difference. All in all it was good. Our waitress was attentive and sweet. Our food was fresh and flavorful and the decor was really nicely themed. I will definitely go back.

It may a good thing we don't live any closer to this place, it has the capacity to turn into an obsession. Best Irish restaurant we have found. Location is a bit odd, but everyone else is sublime. Good beer selection, good service, and a great depth of options on the menu. The Reuben, potato soup, and sampler platter (shepherd's pie/corned beef/fish) are current favorites. Definitely recommend this place if you're feeling like something different.

West and south of the city, on the old Route 66 lies The Kerry Piper. Named for the old piper who used to play his "Uilleann pipes" all around County Kerry in Ireland, this bar does it's best to re-create an authentic Irish pub. It's interesting to me that the bartender told me that the interior of the bar was designed and installed by a company in Ireland that "makes" Irish bars. Huh? I thought the real Irish bars were just that, Irish bars and that they just were . . . . .not made. Oh well- all the things you expect from an Irish bar in your imagination are here in The Kerry Piper. There are stone walls, rough hewn lumber beams, tables made from "whiskey kegs" and lots of dark wood tables and chairs scattered about. The stone fireplace dominates the one wall and there are farming implements (like ox yokes) hung about. Hmm . . .I wonder if there is catalog for such things and you just pick the decor out of a book???? The food is actually quite good. While there are plenty of typical bar choices on the menu (wings, calamari, and nachos) if you go- stick to the burgers (the patty melt is quite good) or go with some of their "Irish like" offerings like the fish and chips (quite good) the meatloaf (almost as good as mom's) or the beef Irish boxty. As for the bar- they pour a good Jameson and a proper Black and Tan. On one of the nights I was in there - there was live music and a group of guys sampling all of the whiskey in the place which made for a pretty fun evening. The service is not consistent. Sometimes they are on their game and other times I have sat and sat waiting for someone to come over. For the best service- sit at the bar as I've never had a problem there. All in all a solid choice if you are looking for a drink and some decent food in the area. And the person was right who said the Yelp map is wrong. The Kerry Piper is located on the service drive to I-55 (old route 66) on the northeast corner at Hwy 83. A bit hard to find but once you do, your first pint should take the pain of finding it away!

How do you feel about a tepid American take on Irish bar decor? Do you like your fish and chips to be microwaved fish sticks and fries from a freezer? Do you like it when your waiter doesn't give a damn? When your waiter asks if there's anything else you need while already starting to walk away? If you answered 'I'm all for it!' to any of these questions, you will love The Kerry Piper.

I've been to the Kerry twice. Both times the place was almost empty and absolutely freezing. The first time I visited was last January. I had the Taste of Ireland. That included corned beef and cabbage, shepard's pie and fish and chips. The corned beef and cabbage was good, the shepard's pie was ok and the fish and chips were mushy. My last visit was two weeks ago. The place was freezing again. Everyone in our party had to keep their jackets on during the entire meal. There was no lingering after the meal to have another cocktail. People wanted to get out of there and warm up. Given the lack of business, you can be assured that everything is pre-made and frozen. I decided to order from the specials menu, hoping that the food was more likely to be freshly made. I had the schnitzel and spatzle. The schnitzel was dry and the spatzle was just ok. I'm sure both were not freshly made. My best advice is to stick to the corned beef and cabbage and bring a stadium blanket. Oh, and order a martini. They fill those bad boys to the top!

We have been to Kerry Piper 3 times now and I must say, the food is great. I would bump my rating up to 4 stars if they could just figure out their service situation. We went in on a Monday night this last time and the place was packed and there was only one server on! There was no manager anywhere to be found and we should have walked out after the first ten minutes but the server had waited on us before and he was a nice guy. I couldn't completely blame him for prob the worst service I've ever received because how is he expected to run a whole restaurant by himself? If it's like that the next time we go in, we are going to walk out. People definitely have to try the toastie and the steak bites! The fried onions are the best!

I like this bar. No, it's not a super authentic Irish bar, because this is Illinois. For Illinois I think it is pretty cool. There is a stone wall, run downy Irish country home theme in here and it is very cozy. The bar is large, wooden and carved and has many a stool. There are lots of wooden tables and a couple high tops, so there are some options. The beer selection is pretty good. Of course they have the Irish and English beers but they also had some good ones for those of us who do not enjoy a thick, frothy brew. Obviously their whiskey selection is impressive and one of the times I was here the bartender took the time to explain to us what all the colors on the labels mean, not that I remember any of it. The food here is much better than the average bar fare and on the weekends there is usually live music. I really enjoy the bands they have there and they put on a fun show. The clientele here is definitely a little older, so this a great place to relax. Later in the night though, groups of younger kids sometimes wander in, but that is usually only around times like winter break. This would be a fun place to celebrate a birthday.

I've always had a good time here. Food is good, the beer is flowing, and usually there is good music (i can think of one major exception. One night we came here and the band sucked! I can't believe they let them play! Lol sounded like a mash up of Harry Belafonte and the song Iko Iko. Both good on their own....but this band was not pulling off...whatever they were going for.. unless they meant to sound like a cat in heat...) Like I said, USUALLY good music!

I love the Kerry Piper! Great beer, staff,, fresh food and casual fun atmosphere. Everything is good. Know that when there is a band it does get loud. Can't wait for spring to sit outside.

I was in town for one night looking for a place to grab a few pints. The Kerry Piper had a great atmosphere, the service was great, and they had a nice selection of beers on tap. Also they had a Celtic band rocking out a 6 pm on a Sunday evening.

Good food and good music. The food is very good. So good that I think they should have a few more tables. The decoration/architechture inside is pretty cool. They have good live music on a regular basis and they keep their web site current and informative. It's right off I-55 but a little tricky to get out of and back onto the highway. I say, stop by the next time you are anywhere near it.

This review and rating is for the restaurant portion of the Kerry Piper. It does not cover the bar. The Kerry Piper has a delightful outdoor seating area. Its primary appeal is that the ambient noise level is much lower than most al fresco venues. The pub is not on a major highway or street. When the weather is nice, this is one of my favorite places to eat outdoors. As for the food, the selection is pretty much that of most other Irish pubs. However, the quality of the dishes is better than that of most other pubs. Several of the entrees are home recipes. Portions are generous, too much to eat in one sitting. And soup/salad plus dessert can be added to a dinner for a truly small extra charge. The service has always been reasonable when I have eaten there. The waitress stations include portions of the interior bar and interior dining area as well as the patio. They handle the stress well, providing friendly and capable service. The Kerry Piper is a nice change of pace from the Chicken Basket.

Very authentic Irish pub. We went on a Sunday evening, so the restaurant wasn't too packed. The place has a great look about it - old, weathered tables, bar stools, chairs, etc. and a great looking bar. There's an abundance of seating both at the bar and at the tables. We decided to go in for dinner on the recommendation of friends and it was delicious. I had the Fish and Chips and it was U.K. authentic. The tartar sauce was homemade and delicious and the fish was fresh and fried to perfection. The chips were fresh and hot when they came out on the plate. All in all, a delicious dinner. The bar serves every authentic Irish drink you could possibly imagine: Guinness, Black and Tans, Jameson, etc. Apparently the bar also has really fun celebrations for all Irish holidays and other fun events/happenings. They have dancing, parties, New Year's celebrations, etc. A couple of my friends went for New Year's and said the prix fixe deal was great and the atmosphere was fun and friendly; everyone had a good time.

I have lived in Burr Ridge for 25 years and have never gone to this pub. On a Saturday night in October, we decided to try it. At 6:45 pm the restaurant was somewhat empty, with some families eating dinner, allowing their kids to run around the restaurant freely like it was a playground. The waitress told us to sit anywhere, so we chose to sit as far away as possible from those family tables. Our waitress was courteous and attending. We looked at the menu and saw that, yes, this is pub food.My husband ordered the fish and chips and I ordered a corned beef on rye. Then, I noticed another table getting these long sticks, which looked delicious. We ordered the corned beef deep fried sticks for an appetizer. The corned beef sticks were just ok. Hardly any flavor and could have used some cheese or salt. The fish and chips looked good but also, no flavor. My husband said the fish tasted like they were frozen too long. However, we both liked the french fries and coleslaw, which is my initial test for a place. I ordered a corned beef on rye. It looked wonderful but again, no taste in the corned beef! There was 1000 island dressing, horseradish dressing and a mustard type dressing that came with it but without those dressings, the corned beef would have been blah. I was expecting a saltier, cornier, corned beef and was disappointed to find it was just meh~ Service was good, atmosphere was cold, dark, depressing. Maybe with an Irish pub band and more people, this place could wow people for just a short time to drink a few beers.

The Kerry Piper is a pretty decent Irish pub. I've only been a couple of times and they just so happen to be on St. Patrick's Day during lunchtime. The patio is of course packed since St. Pat's is typically the start of nice weather. I was glad to see that this year they got rid of the patio umbrellas because last year they were blowing in the wind and it was very bothersome. Chris was our server and kept the beers coming. He even did a shot with some of our group, which was pretty awesome. I ordered a corned beef sandwich and it was pretty good. I was let down that our server told us that they "didn't make any 1000 Island dressing." BOO! One fun thing about this place is you'll get people of all ages and all are talkative -- it's nice to meet some new people and network or just share a laugh with the group next to you. Good times.

First, the map of where this is at this time is incorrect. It's off of what used to be the old route 66. You have to get behind the Target in the area to get to it. The part of Route 66 it is off of runs just parrellel and just north of IL-55. If you can find it, I love the restaurant for the setting and types of people. In general you will see late 20 somethings through early 50's. Business suite types to biker types. All in all a easy going and positive atmosphere and a nice patio section that works well for groups of people when you want to get away from the bar area. Where I ding them is for the music. They are just not a good venue for live music which is one of my favorite things. It's not a bad setup, so with hope and time they will start working in better bands.

OK....I've been to Ireland a few times, and this is the fakiest recreation of an Irish Pub I've ever seen. The dudes at Fox's or Toner's would laugh. The Guinness is fine, the food is mediocre and the service is, generally, slow. The Royal Guinness Lancers were somewhat disappointed and we probably won't be holding too many meetings there in the foreseeable future. Update 06 October 2010 ... Well, we had the opportunity to revisit this place. And, actually, the corned beef sandwich was pretty darned good. No complaints. However, the service was still dreadful, and the fakey atmosphere hasn't been improved so I really can't raise the star rating. I would like to get my hands on one of those Guinness stratocasters they have though.

Kerry Piper... Living in this area I have to know where all my Black and Tan locations are. This place is, of course, most kick ass on or around St. Pat's Day... The tent is packed with 300 of your closest and drunk friends. It's a cool place to check out a band... Kinda' closed quarters but who cares! I guess all of the wood and stone in here is Imported from Ireland. I wouldn't know the difference, but it looks good. It can be a little slow getting drinks at the bar sometimes... maybe understaffed??? The beer variety is awesome and the mixers aren't too pricey. As far as food goes, I couldn't say... I've used this location primarily as a watering hole (although, I've heard it's good). A word of caution... This place is right around the corner from the Willowbrook PD station... Turn left out of here and use Frontage Road instead of Quincy St. to avoid a chance meeting! They aren't too bad, but may have a limited sense of HUMOR!!!!

After a previous poor service experience, we decided to try the Kerry Piper again. BIG MISTAKE. We had impeccably bad service. I would think twice about ordering anything more complicated than a beer. We ordered soup, burger & two kids meals. After an hour and a half - we couldn't wait any longer. Oh, I had to wait longer for the server to get me a check for the drinks. The bartender/manager apologized several times, but it was way to late for that. We will not be back and I don't know how this place can stay in business. Hopefully this was an off night, but I will not be back to find out!

The Kerry Piper is a classic Irish Pub located in nearby Willowbrook. The Irish Pub Company of Dublin modeled the interior of this Burr Ridge restaurant after an Irish countryside cottage. Traditional Irish music is a hallmark of many meals, and a well equipped fireplace adds a cozy feel. Wednesdays are my favorite day since there is Pub Trivia. My choices are the excellent burgers on the menu

If they advertised as just a regular bar, Kerry Piper would be pretty good. But an "authentic" Irish bar? Only in a fake Disney/Epcott kind of way. The fieldstone stone walls another reviewer mentioned? Actually, painted drywall. Rough hewn timbers and country furniture? Again, cheap and fake looking. Our hotel clerk said it used to be the best place in the area, but they started going "corporate" a few years ago and killed the atmosphere. Having said that, as just a plain old bar, it wasn't bad. Nice selection of English/Irish beers. Friendly atmosphere, although it's a bit too bright. Quite a few tvs to watch a game, but that doesn't help the whole authentic Irish thing. If it wasn't within walking distance of our hotel, I'd have skipped Kerry Piper and gone down the street to the BW-3.

Awesome irish pub with great food to boot! Been here many times and the pog mo hoin is an awesome burger. I've been here multiple times and haven't gotten anything I didn't like! I recently had the apple and chicken boxtie which was huge, but I easily devoted it as usual.
