I really have no idea why people like this place, it's terrible. The place was 1000 degrees with flies everywhere. The floors, walls and ventilation is absolutely gross. You can imagine how they clean their kitchen and treat the food. We had lunch and my baked pasta wasn't strained, amateur. Kids thought their cheese pizza was okay. There are much better places than this joint, won't be back.

CALZONE HEAVEN! Wa-Pa-Ghettis is the friendly neighborhood restaurant, perhaps the friendliest even. The staff is terrific every time you walk in there. The owner, Joe, remembers all the customers, and is one of the best known restaurateurs in the community. While the taste of the the pizza and pasta is just OK, and the preparation/presentation is not sophisticated, the ingredients are FRESH. Everything is cut and prepared daily in the kitchen, and therefore making it healthier and kinda like "home-made". The pasta and pizza is not the reason I'm giving it 5 stars... It the Calzones. I go there over and over and over just for the Calzones... The best in the business. Huge calzone, not greasy at all, good cheese, plenty of filling, and a great marinara to dip alongside. The price is terrific at $7 (as of fall 2015) which includes a drink. The place also does a ton of delivery and catering. They have some unique imported italian sodas that I haven't seen anywhere before. Go to Wa-Pa, try the calzone, and be happy...

I am a bit of a frequent flyer with delivery.com . In the burbs you have few options and Wapaghetti's has become my go to when I am uber lazy or want pizza. This is way better than papa johns and I would rather support a local business. The crust is thicker than I am used to, being a New Jersian/New Yorker. (I get to claim both. I worked in Manhattan for 10 years) but fortunately it is not QUICHE (meaning overly doughy, gooey mess). Sauce is flavorful. It is a little on the sweet side but it is still good. Calzones here are actually Stromboli if you are from NY area but are loaded with fresh ingredients. Love them. Cheap, big and not too doughy. Sandwiches are good too. Menu is kind of limited but that is a good thing. Do a few things well. Earn a repeat customer. Delivery is usually under an hour. Will continue to order from here.

This place puts the ZZ in post piZZa food coma *Badum Tsss!* Bad jokes aside, I have been quite fond of wapaghettis and their mighty double dough crust for years, ranging all the way back to my single digits. Sadly, about 6 months ago after moving back from out of state, I decided to take a skip down memory lane and order some of, from what I remembered, my favorite pizza only to be met with that all too familiar lesson; things you loved as a child tend not to translate all that well in the adult world. I was quite disappointed, either the quality had diminished significant or everything I thought I knew was wrong...or my childhood self just had a very lame palate and low standards. Luckily the planets aligned just right and tonight I decided, what the hell, why not order up some wapa's. So onto tonight's experience; Ordered online for delivery and it came on time and hot despite having the store call with a little snag in our original order. as other reviews have stated, really pleasant and helpful staff. We ordered a variety of pizzas and nothing disappointed. 10" low carb cheese pizza: really interesting concept. They basically use a sausage/spinach patty as the "crust" with sauce and cheese on top. (Only available in 10" and 12") for our gluten sensitive member this was perfect. Usually pizza night means a salad, but this gave her an option that didn't mean gluten free cardboard with cheese. 10" cheese whole wheat crust: this one got mixed reviews. one described it as "healthy tasting" which coming from a self-proclaimed junk foodie, isn't necessarily a good thing. That being said, I really liked it. It had a slightly sweet and nutty flavor with a chewy texture much like whole wheat bread. Nice to have a healthy option at a pizza place. Calzone (aka panzorati): huge portion filled to the brim with toppings. The only thing I would recommend is to get the moz instead of ricotta. And on to the real winner of the night; Stuffed crust shrimp Alfredo pizza. The Alfredo was amazing! Creamy delicious and huge. Stuffed crust was totally worth it and the shrimp, although of the tiny salad shrimp variety, was abundant. And that crust, oh how I missed ye. Soft, just the right amount of chew, that airy deliciously fresh dough I remember. Overall, tonight reestablished my faith in my childhood memories and earned wapaghettis my coveted favorite pizza badge. Thanks guys!

This is what happens when you get pasta from a pizza place. As well as fries and a philly cheese steak. I'd like to give the disclaimer that I kind of feel bad being the bearer of bad reviews, because the man who delivered to me was nice and so was the guy on the phone I spoke to. But I must tell it how it is. First, I placed the order at 8:59. The order came at 10:20. I ordered via GrubHub and they had told me it would come at 10:04 originally. I called around 10:10 and the guy said it'd be there in 5-10 minutes. WHAT!? Second, of course we finally got the food. I think both my spouse and I didn't appreciate it because we were expecting it to be like another restaurant. Regardless, if you're going to take a while delivering, make sure it's warm. It really..wasn't. I was also surprised to find my salad had no dressing? I thought because there wasn't an option I'd just get it. That's odd for a restaurant to have salads and not even carry one spec of dressing. The pasta WAS watery. Not appreciated (I should have just made pasta at home). And even the bread was cold. I still ate everything but it was NOT worth 26+ bucks.

It's not for everyone, but if you love thicker pizza with lots of cheese, this is the place for you.

Good place to go if you want some fresh homemade authentic Italian food. Don't be fooled by the exterior as there's enough space inside for 8 tables in a casual fast dining area and 8 tables in a dining room to the side. The owner is friendly and the prices are fair. I highly recommend getting the calzone on your next visit.

OMG I love this place!!!!!! There pizza is the best pizza I have ever had. I love how e has baseball photos from the local town up on his wall because that shows he is supporting local people. The owner is a really really nice guy, very personable and he does a great job running his business. Once you eat wapaghettis pizza, you will never eat any other pizza again.

Okay. This is for the pizza, and the pizza only, which had an amazing beer batter, nice spicy sauce and huge amounts of plain mozzarella. The turkey sub was horrible. Gelatin-y "turkey", iceberg lettuce, flavorless tomatoes, low-grade bread roll and lots of mayo. Stale chips. Horrible. But the people were nice and this was a fresh, handmade, quality pizza.

Wapaghettis has lost its touch. Although the staff is really nice, the food not so good. I ordered a "teddys special salad" i asked the girl on the phone what was on it..romaine, lettuce, tomatoes, artichoke hearts..thats was a done deal i love artichoke!. I came home opened the salad, it had baby shrimp on it! The shrimp was so pink! Never seen shrimp that pink! And the shrimp did not smell fresh! It smelled very fishy! well that just ruined my dinner! Thank goodness i ordered a bbq chicken pizza! Took 1 bite..and thought. .oh man i just wasted money on this dinner. The dough was too thick, not even alot of chicken! But there is alot of cheese! And alot of dough! Been going there for many years but i haven't been in the past year. Thought i stop by, because it was close to home. But i think thats the last time.

Mrs. B happened to find an Amazon Deals discount for Wa-Pa-Ghetti, and we decided to drive to delightful Wheeling for dinner on this dank day. [OK, it isn't a perfect alliteration; but I try, and often fail, to be an amusing auteur.] We don't visit Wheeling very often, and we had not been at Wa-Pa-Ghetti for many moons, but we needed to run a few errands in the area; thus, our review. Wa-Pa-Ghetti is quite an institution in Wheeling. This local favorite is the epitome of a nice, community-involved, independently owned neighborhood place that appeals to families, workers, and anyone who appreciates a home-made pizza, Italian entrée, or sandwich. They are involved in sponsoring local kids' sports teams and other local events and causes; and have done so for decades. We once had an interesting talk with the owner who told us about his efforts to offer an excellent dining experience. While there, they were setting up their party room to accommodate a birthday party. The restaurant is a carry-out and eat-in informal place. Counter service is the modus operandi here: they do not offer formal table service. The place is pretty spartan: its walls are decorated with a mish-mash of certificates, pictures of the Three Stooges, sports teams, and some children's' teams they apparently sponsor. I have always liked the friendly and efficient service they offer as well as the quality of their food. They claim to have some kind of special state certification to supply local schools with pizza. Due to health (high cholesterol) restrictions, I cannot eat pizza very often, so I ordered a simple sub sandwich and Mrs. B ordered a sandwich with beef, tomato sauce, and cheese. We were very satisfied with the size and quality of the portions. While waiting for our orders to be completed, we selected a window seat and were entertained by a woman who drove her van up to the neighboring Laundromat and proceeded to unload about a dozen black plastic bags of laundry on the sidewalk in front of us. She then unloaded a five gallon industrial-sized bucket of laundry detergent before she managed to find a legitimate parking space. So, I recommend Wa-Pa-Ghetti if you like a friendly family-run Italian restaurant, or if you are a laundry voyeur.

Love their pizza. I may not come here as often as I used to bc they're a good 25 min away but when I do its worth it. They also have very good sub sandwiches as well.

Bad. Just bad. Bland. Sauce was flavorless. Pizza had a 2 day old leftover taste to it. Never again.

This place has seem real funky cheese. I don't know what it is, but I don't like it. I like the texture and taste of the thin-crust pizza, the sauce is okay, but I can't stand the cheese. I opt for Joe's Pizzeria over Wapaghetti's anytime.

Love this place! Constantly order delivery and the pizza is amazing!! It definitely takes a little while to get delivered, but it's worth it! Such thick crust, perfect amount of sauce, and delicious cheese!!! Love it!!!

This is an authentic neighborhood "institution" - around since 1979 with the same owner. I came here for the first time in 20 years when I found them in the Entertainment book, and we came for Lunch, so I can't rate the Pizza, as good as it might be. We had sandwiches - I had an Italian Sub, my wife had the Italian Beef with cheese. Both were very good, far above the "sub shop' type - very authentic and natural. Subs come in 6 or 12 inch, but the 6 inch seemed longer (and of course bigger) than a Subway "6 Inch" - maybe it just was made to be an honest size here. It comes with chips for $4.79 - I think that's less than Subway charges for the same combo. That day the air conditioning was out in the main room, so the counter man directed us to the "Private Room" where the air conditioning still was working - they waited on us like a sit down restaurant there. The staff is very nice, the food is above average in all ways, and the place exudes a special kind of "neighborliness" that we liked a lot.

Wapaghetti's pizza has doughy crust, abundant melty cheese, and well-populated toppings. Their service is friendly and you get your pizza almost immediately-- plus, they have "samples" out that are essentially whole slices of pizza! They are certified by the Department of Agriculture and are able to provide pizza for local school functions. They also have a good Italian soda selection, and we were given free Matt's cookies (mm!) to go with our pizza. Finally, they even have a punch card system that'll earn you a free slice and pop after 6 purchases of the same. Enjoy!

I ordered pizza for delivery for four people and none of us were impressed. First, they got our order wrong, missing my favorite ingredients on the pizza. Second, they over charged us $10 and weren't apologetic about it, nor did they offer any sort of discount or coupon for the inconvenience. Third, the pizza was really not great. The c rust is so thick and doughy that it may as well be a bread stick. The flavor is pretty bland in my opinion, and canned mushrooms? Come on! Will not be ordering again from Wa Pa Ghetti's!

I realize that pizza is an extremely personal thing. This just happens to be one of my favorite pizza's in the city. If you love crusts, cheese, and a super thick doughy pizza, this one is for you: The crust on the edges is amazing and BIG. I love that dough-y bigness. This pizza is HUGE and topped off with a ton of cheese. If you can finish two slices, bravo! The toppings are baked in an excellent manner. I love everything about this pizza...the dough, the crust, the cheese, the tons of toppings I put in it (pepperoni, pineapple, extra mushrooms, green peppers, little bit of sausage) ...Oh man...I'm craving a slice right now.

Last week I was feeling crazy and stopped here. They used to shovel this stuff down our throats every pizza party in K-10 so you kinda get this odd craving for it. It is a really doughy pizza with a sweeter sauce and thick cheese. So I went to grab a slice. On Mondays they have dollar slices. Jackpot. Wait. The slices are half as big so they should just call them two dollar slices. It doesn't matter because they are quick to sling pizza out the door and if you are in the mood for it great. I have never had pizza like this anywhere else, so if you aren't in the mood to try a new type of pizza maybe this place isn't the best choice.

I love this place! I have been eating here since I was a small child (when they were in that strip mall on the corner of Dundee and Wolf) and have always had a fondness for their thick doughy crust, acidic sauce with a hint of red wine, and loads of cheese. Never greasy, always fulfilling. Some of their toppings come from a can (the mushrooms especially), but other than that this place has the best pizza in Wheeling hands down. I miss it so much now that I live in the city.

If you like thick-crusted pizza, I would recommend Wapaghetti's. Without a doubt, this is my favorite pizzeria. The place is a little dated, but the food is so good that it's easy to overlook the atmosphere. I sort of grew up on the pizza and now I crave it every few months.

    (5)
  • Jake M.

Terrible pizza. The worst I've ever had. The crust is not cooked enough, practically dough and for such a thick crust there is literally no cheese or toppings. There are like to pieces of whatever topping per over sized slice.

  • Steve P.

Wapaghetti's catered our office party. For 20 people they gave us the best deal for the best food. They beat out the big chains for value. This little small business will surprise you! Italian Beef, Garlic Bread, Pasta, Salad, BBQ chicken, and the better pizza in the Northwestern burbs. Courtney is wonderful. Very professional and took good care of us.

I grew up on this pizza and have frequented the Wheeling location since I was a wee lad. I would come here with my buddies and we would compete to see who would eat the most pizza. My record is 7 slices from the 18 inch pizza. The pizza is so unique and the crust is doughy and is often times discarded but ask them for some additional sauce and dip it in! The owner is super cool as are the workers. The food is fast and so is the delivery. The catering is excellent too. There is no place like this and I would gladly return to Illinois just to have another slice! and Joe is a Wheeling legend!

It looks like they have expanded to a few other spots. I have been eating this amazing pizza at this location since the year of their inception. The dough is honey-wheat bready goodness. Sausage is the way to go here and don't even think about asking for extra cheese. Believe me it's not needed. Slices are enormous and I am not sure if I am proud of the fact that I could most definitely beat anyone if they were to hold a "Pie-Eating" contest. Everything on the menu is beyond Good. If you feel like a baked potato with all sorts of toppings on it; Wa-Pas is the place to get one. Delivers to a large area too. Good prices. Friendly staff. 4 stars because I can't eat them everyday. If I did, a crane would be needed to pull me from my home. JK 5 Stars

Well, I'll qualify this review by saying the calzones here are amazing and I probably would have been ordering from here for many happy years to come, but I ordered for the second time today and was left with a pretty bad taste in my mouth. My total came to $14.02 (calzone, side salad & can of soda), which I wasn't told over the phone, but not a big deal. When the delivery driver came, I handed him a $20 and asked for $2 back. The driver said, "oh, you wanted change? Did you tell them that when you called, because they don't give change to their drivers." I left the food with him, came back inside & immediately called Wapaghettis to let them know what their driver was telling me. They laughed and said, "oh, they'll try anything, won't they? He had change when he left here. We'll talk to him when he gets back." I managed to find $15 in my wallet and gave the driver a 98-cent tip as a result of what he tried. I'm glad the people answering the phone at the restaurant thought what he tried to pull was funny, but I sure didn't. I don't make all that much money myself, but I have always believed in tipping well. After all, we're all in this economy together. So having a delivery driver who not only lies to customers, but obviously thinks they must be idiots, doesn't go over well with me. Wapa, I love ya, but there are other calzones in the sea.

The best Pizza in the NW suburbs! My personal favorite pizza. They know how to make good pizza. The crust is amazing, the sausage is ACTUAL sausage, not the crumbly, falling apart stuff at some places. Everything here is quality and the prices can't be beat. The little shop has room to sit and eat, and there is history all over the walls. The owner is really nice and the staff is too. Hands down good stuff! Go there!

came here over the weekend to celebrate my daughter's 7th birthday - got an awesome living social deal for a "make your own pizza" themed party. the staff was very friendly and nice, and the kids had a blast! the owner came out and sat down and talked with us for awhile - his name is joe, and he's a really nice guy! the food was great, so was the service! :) excellent visit, thanks to wa-pa-ghetti's for making my daughter's birthday special!!!

all i can say is i will never order from there again it was the worst pizza i have ever had. all you taste is dough and the cheese taste's like cardboard. and they are expensive and not worth it.

  • Danielle S.

Came back to Wapaghetti's just because I wanted to try it again. It wasn't greasy this time around, and overall it was really tasty. I like their thick crust - it's like a breadstick! However, their delivery took forever, and they are so, so expensive (we ordered a small cheese/sausage and a large half sausage, half sausage & mushroom and it was almost $50!!). Yikes. Another time we came to pick up our order. The inside is pretty disgusting. It's not like a restaurant at all. It wasn't clean or inviting. It was dead quiet (no music..no people). Not so much. I don't know if I will go back. It's good, but I don't want to pay that much for just pizza!! I can go out for a pretty decent meal for that much.

I grew up in Rolling Meadows and had a Wa-Pa-Ghetti's only minutes away. It was my favorite pizza growing up but then they closed and no other pizza has ever filled that void. I now live in Prospect Heights and have had Wa-Pa-Ghetti's three times from Wheeling. The taste is sure the same and boy did that bring back some good food memories. However it is certainly not the same pizza by any means.. There is just way too much crust and bread and that bread takes over the whole pizza. I have not ordered from Wa-Pa-Ghetti's since and that makes me sad.. Hopefully they will lessen the bread and strive for excellence again.

Wapghetti's is a staple at most Yelp events! They keep the pizza comin', delivered hot and fresh! Everyone always love the pizza -sometimes so much it's one of the most popular foods and they tend to run out fast! I've also had Wapaghetti's at friend's parties when I used to live in Wheeling. It was around the corner from many of my friends' houses so they would always order delivery. Good stuff!

We eat here pretty much every Wednesday. I'm not a huge fan of the thicker crust pizza, but their Thin-n-Crispy pizza is THE BEST!!! If you don't their pizza, then try any one of their numerous daily specials. You can't go wrong with their Subs, Italian Beef, Italian Sausage and/or Meatballs. The staff goes out of their way to take care of you and they do a FANTASTIC job catering office parties and school events.

Great pizza, used to always come here on Monday or Tuesdays for their $1 Pizza Slices, well worth it. Great pizza, great location, easy parking, awesome coupons. Work with schools and local companies to deliver pizza I heard. Wish i could get a slice, but I live in the city now.

Their Alfredo Sauce pizza is simply amazing! Today, they brought us the wrong (but still delicious) pizza and to make up for it they gave us the pizza for free and brought us the correct order! Now that's customer service!

Have been eating Wapaghettis for years since they served hot lunch in middle schools. Love the Pizza, pizza cones are cool, owner Joe is so nice and friendly. They have a party room, do birthdays and holiday catering as well. They have a Crusing USA and Ms. Paceman / Galaga in store which is fun! They have all you can eat Pizza and Pasta for under $7 and Monday slices for $1.95. Their pizza is thick, cheesy and delicious. I can't even complain about anything here, sorry!

  • Chris W.

Whose ready for some badass Sicilian style pizza? I am. You've gotta get ready to do a lot of chewing though. They've got some crazy dough that's ULTRA tasty to munch on. If you're not a fan of chewy dough the Sicilian pizzas aren't for you. Their thin crust pizzas are good too, but when I eat here I want the Sicilian. They also have really ghetto self advertising online which is cute. And nice staff.

For about five dollars they offer a standout italian sub sammich with chips, prefaced by a generous house salad.

I haven't had their pizza, but their sandwiches are quite good and are affordable. Nothing fancy here, just good down to earth food. Whether you go for the Philly Beef, the sausage/meatball bombers/etc they are all good.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
