Food is alright...the carne asada is little sub-par but tacos were good overall. The low rating is due to horrendous service. The servers are completely non-caring...and ALWAYS miss out on important items when we order take-out. We ask them each time when we go for pick up, and they will answer yes and that they did put it in. The bag is tightly tied, so we just trust their words..come home...and find out something is always missing!!! 2 instances of no salsa, 2 instances of no tortilla, 1 instance of wrong tortilla, and 1 instance of no straws. We rarely got utensils....but we just use the ones we've got. 1 instance of wrong order and 1 instance of wrong number of order!! Seriously, don't answer that you put it in without checking and recheck the order each time!!! I don't think we have enjoyed ur food hot. It always becomes lukewarm by the time we go back to pick up stuffs. We gave you enough chances in the last 5 months since we moved to the area. And you blew it each and every time. Shame.

This place is awesome! Very clean, friendly and great service. The steak torta was awesome!! They even had the original Rocky on TV there. I will be back to this place without a doubt!!

Not only is the food good, the manager/owner is incredibly nice! We ordered delivery through a delivery service and they forgot our churros. When we called the restaurant to have them just credit our card back, the owner himself (since they don't have a driver) came and brought the churros to our house! THAT'S stellar customer service. I'm glad I found a local Mexican joint I love! Will definitely order from here again :) PS the chimis are HUGE!!! :)

dependable, good service and good food. when i have those cravings for authentic mexican, the first and only option that comes to mind is el alamo. came here on a weeknight with a craving for authentic mexican. i've previously had their tacos for take out and tortas. this time i wanted something different. after looking thru their menu with tantalizing pictures, i decided upon their house special the mocajete mar y tierra which was a cornucopia of taste with shrimp, short ribs, and octopus cooked in a spicy salsa, served in what resembled a mortar for grinding spices. impressive display and the tastes were great with just a squeeze of lime to brighten the flavors. great for dipping with chips and sharing with 2 others. satisfied craving. done. I'll be back. next time...something new. its a good place to take your family as the staff is patient and friendly. no rush, enjoy your time. salud!

El Alamo has very good traditional Mexican food, but really excels at the less-traditional foods. The seafood items are all excellent! My only (small) complaint is that the salsa that comes to the table with chips when you sit down is thin, very spicy, and slightly bitter. Perhaps a second (more gringo - less spicy and chunky) salsa would be a great option.

Overall a solid place for a burrito, some tacos, or a good Mexican breakfast. The place is cheap, fast, and authentic. While it is not as close as Chipotle to my house, this is my go to spot. What makes this place different than the hundreds of Mexican joints around Chicago that you already know and love? Well I really cannot think of anything other than its the best one that is close to my house.

The rating is for the category: Coolest Mexican Chicago 'Burb Dive This is the Mexican version of a 50's retro diner. The dining area is snug and very loud thanks to the heavy traffic flow and new age juke box in the corner blasting mariachi favorites. A guy in the table next to us was loudly and happily singing along. It seemed appropriate. Maybe it was because he was on his third humongous Michelada. Though we didn't drink, the margarita prices were fantastic. We arrived at 4:30 pm on a Sunday and by 5 pm the place was packed with happy couples and young people. My husband spiked my salsa with habanero sauce without asking and told me much later, so I originally thought it was just too spicy. Since I didn't get to try it in virgin form, I can't comment on it. Husband was reprimanded. We ordered fish soup, shrimp tacos, and whole red snapper. The soup was great, a huge chunk (bone in) with chayote, zucchini, and broth. The tacos had a slightly sweet tequila flavor, and the red snapper was divine and the reason we shall return. Then, it happened. A real mariachi came in at 5:30. They play three songs for $20. The table next to us ordered. It was phenomenal. Best Mexican restaurant experience in the area with a friendly staff that makes all the difference! Brittney Tun Food Writer and Culinary Enthusiast ideasthatsnap.com

Food is excellent and the service is super friendly. I have tried most of everything and it is always delicious. My picky son even ate the cheese quesadilla and rice/beans. We are definitely returning.

Great food spoiled by insipid service. No warmth whatsoever. Not rude - our server didn't care enough for that - but felt more like we were an inconvenience just by showing up. Too bad because otherwise could be a regular spot.

Gave this place a try based on mostly positive reviews Went with my wife and daughter. Waitress, name was Kristina was the star of our meal! She gets 10 stars. Told her it was our first time here and we had asked what dishes we're best to order. She gave her choices which we decided against. She had brought us samples of the AL Pastor and steak samples without asking for them. They were just ok. We started out with a mango and a lime margaritas, which were huge for the $7.00 price tag. They both were good choices and tasted good. For a appetizer we ordered a small guacamole which was really good and nice portion size for $5.00, enough for the three of us. Wife and daughter ordered chicken fajitas to share. Price was reasonable $10.99 but were nothing memorable and did not have a wow factor. They came with the usual rice and refried beans and tortillas. I was in the mood for fish tacos and from the menu with picture the Pescado Vallarta looked really good.Said beer battered talipia. From the picture looked like a light batter with nice size pieces of fish. What I got was a hard fried pieces of fish almost burnt. The batter was like what you would get at a fried shrimp joint. Heavy hard batter. It also seemed the oil they used to fry the fish was old as the fish tasted like oil that needed to be change last week. The portion size was not close to what they served to me compared to the picture off the menu, nor did it like like the picture of what really was a beer batter coating. The garnishes came as advertised grilled knob onions, red cabbage and a mayo Chipotle sauce. Will we go back I doubt it but even with the disappointment with the food the waitress made a nice evening

We have been to El Alamo several times since discovering it through a Groupon. The food is excellent and a step above the usual neighborhood Mexican restaurant. We recently ordered the fish tacos and special fajitas and both were the best we have had anywhere!! The owner and staff are friendly and the service is very good. It's our new favorite neighborhood casual Mexican restaurant.

Really great Mexican food- friendly service, the owner (I think?) served us and gave us a run-down of what El Alamo was trying to do with their food. Lots of classics, but also lots of creative dishes! We opted for the creative, and we were impressed- Torta was great. More on the strength of the filling than the bread. I went with breakfast tacos with barbacoa and eggs, and the flavors were really well balanced. For about 8$ for my plate (10$ with soda and all), I was really well fed as the portions are generous. Pro-tip: when you're dining in an ethnic restaurant, a good mark of quality is a lot of folks of that ethnicity dining in. El Alamo was about half-Spanish speaking while I was there (thumbs up, bilingual servers!), so you know that they've got great fare :).

The food tastes great! When I went there it was crowded but we found a table to sit. The waitress was super nice. They have alcoholic drink specials like their margarita, definitely a must have. They have an extensive menu. Will be going back to try more!

Awesome little hole in the wall joint! So glad for the yelpers who gave it solid reviews! In town for business and needed a quick, solo but yummy dinner...so I strolled on in, was greeted warmly and quickly ordered a icy cerveza to go with the delish tortilla chips that were served within seconds. These guys have the salsa nailed...I don't know why that is a part of my mexican dining experiences that seems to lack but this was great! There were so many great choices on the menu that I wished I had company so I would have had the option to sample more. I ordered the Tacos Acapulco-really good but since I like spicy I had to turn up the heat a bit with the chipotle sauce they brought out along with some salsa verde. All in all a win--great tasting food for a good price with excellent service--definitely worth a stop in!

Really good place, great prices & great service, torta de aguacate are the best there, they don't always have delivery that's what it sucks but other than that everything it's great!

I have to say I was quite impressed with this place. I came with my mom around 5 for dinner and the place was pretty packed, so I assumed this place must be a hit! We were told to sit wherever we pleased and we instantly found an open booth. The waitress was very friendly. I usually do not have very friendly servers at mexican restaurants..However, this server was very sweet and helpful. You could tell she was very knowledgeable on the variety of food on the menu. Also, she never made a mistake and, after taking our order, reassured everything was correct. Another plus was the food came out fast! My mom and I ordered the Enchiladas Queretaro and a Pina Colada ( who could resist?)...Let me start by saying, it was the best pina colada I had in awhile. Oh and it basically the size of a sink so that made me extra happy. As far as the enchiladas, they were tasty and the presentation was very nice. It was not the typical, cheap presentation at other mexican restaurants. I think I would of enjoyed the enchiladas more if they were a little less spicy...but that was my fault! I did not read everything they put on it. There was so much on the menu so I failed to pay attention to all the components. This place is doing everything right! Way to go!

I go here quite often the food is good. The reason for 3 stars could be me but very Loud music and the portions are a lot smaller with new management. The people that work there are very nice. I would recommend if you are looking for and Abe meal at ace price

My daughter and I were excited about trying a new Mexican restaurant, read the great reviews and purchased a Groupon. We ordered online for pick up and specifically said "no cheese" due to intolerance issues. 1) Not only was it a process to check-out and pay a balance, but I was asked to pay more because there was an error in the system. 2) By the time I left, approximately 15 minutes passed and the food was cold ... add a 15 - 20 minute commute and the food was VERY cold. 3) My daughter's taco meal had cheese, lots of it....it was melted on everything. We had to toss it. 4) They give themselves a "$" rating, but it wasn't inexpensive at all. Two meals (chicken tacos and cerviche) cost $23. And one meal ended up in the trash. So disappointed. Will not be returning.

Just got home from picking up my meal at El Alamo. I opened up my taco dinner plate and saw that it was loaded with cheese. This is an issue since I cannot eat cheese. I specifically requested TWICE on the order form to not put cheese on my tacos, yet it was packed to the brim with cheese. Not coming back.

I've lived in Wheeling quite awhile and had no idea this place existed. So glad we found it. Service and food were excellent. Had the marinated skirt steak and it was delicious. My companion had the battered fish tacos, equally delicious. We will be back!

  • Ritu W.

I love their fish tacos, u get a whole grilled fillet in one taco which is too generous. We almost always get the veggie fajitas with guacomole etc. Their gordita does not have much taste so we do not order it no more. Otherwise, food is always fresh, hot and flavorful with salsa on the side with mexican TV show playing in the background. I think they have karaoke on Friday nights. It's not a date night kind of place as it not fancy and very well kept. But kids are welcome.

What a refreshing take on Mexican food. This place is great - they serve authentic Mexican fare with a flare! We took my wife here for her birthday. I had the Arrachera El Alamo. A strip of perfectly cooked-to-order carne asade topped with a spiced ground beef and cheese. The steak was accompanied by the most delicious rice and beans I think I've ever had. To boot, one can really tell that not only does this restaurant serve great food, but they take great pride in their presentation. The service was great, too! My wife and the others in our party raved about their dishes as well: shrimp tacos; ceviche platter, steak and mushrooms, and fish tacos. Moral of the story - you gotta try this place. You won't be disappointed!

We have found a GREAT Mexican restaurant in El Alamo. This little tucked away place serves huge portions and fresh delicious Mexican dishes. The grilled pineapple with steak and chicken served in a half of a pineapple was out of this world. Our host Joequin was gracious and very accommodating. You've got to try this place. Look for the Groupon deals.

I went here a couple of years ago for dinner. We ordered and waited for over 45 minutes for our food to be brought to us. We waited and waited. We called over a waitress and asked where our food was so she went to check and came back saying the waitress that had taken our order had gone home and never put in our order. No discount, no apologies, absolutely nothing for wasting our time. I decided to forget that incident and give it another try. We got carry out today. They charged us way more than what they indicated were their prices on the menu. They also forgot to include some of our food. We called right away and the girl on the phone said she didn't know what to do and got a manager. The manager Hector said we could go back and get the food or our money. My lunch was up by then and I mentioned it to him and the only thing he responded was well if you want your money you'll come for it. This place has no customer service, the prices are way to high for the type of food they serve and the quality is horrible.

Solid 4 star! A lot of good choices, good atmosphere great service. I will be back many more times. I love the fact that they grill stuff with charcoal! I would say among all the Mexican restaurants in the neighborhood this one is in top 3 for sure, could even be number 1.

This place is as authentic as street food in Vallarta & every bit as good as my favorite places in San Diego; which is saying a lot! So much delicious food. Easily leftovers for another meal. 2 entrees, a quesadilla, a small guacamole, 2 giant micheladas & complimentary chips y salsa and mexican fried ice cream for dessert. STUFFED! CONTENT!

My friend just moved to Wheeling, so we went out to visit her and decided to check out the local Mexican joint! We called to order take-out, which was ready in about 15 minutes. I didn't go pick it up, but I guess the place was pretty empty - glad we got it to-go instead of eating in since it sounds like the atmosphere wasn't really too pleasant. I got chicken fajitas - and they didn't include tortillas, which sort of sucked, but fortunately my friend had some in her fridge! The fajitas were pretty good, the onions and peppers were marinated nicely and cooked to the perfect texture. The fajitas were actually a little spicy and had good flavor. The rice and beans were totally standard but I thought the guacamole we got as an appetizer was surprisingly fresh for a little hole-in-the-wall. It's all pretty standard Mexican food but everybody seemed happy with what they ordered and we'd definitely order from here again next time we visit!

Loved the chicken soup. Two very large pieces of chicken, and tortillas, red rice, onions, cilantro, lime and roasted chilis on the side. Came home, zapped the soup for a minute to make it very hot, and enjoyed it tremendously. My family loved their orders too. Couldn't eat at the restaurant because they have DJs on Fridays and Saturdays starting at 9 pm. It's too noisy for us. But we enjoyed having the food at home so in perspective this was not too bad.

Taqueria Alamo could be really good... if it served better food and had better service. My cousin and I enter this completely deserted restaurant and were met with stale cold chips with absolutely no taste. 5 mins go by and we finally order drinks. 10 go by and can finally order our food, Our waitress was making sure her facebook status was updated. I think I found it on fb: "Totally stuck at gay work ;-(" Maybe the cook was the one who liked her status, cause our food didn't arrive til another solid 20 mins. I got the Chorizo burrito, which you can see in the pictures above. Barely any beans and rice. Maybe that was a good thing cause both were luke warm and obviously had been sitting out for a while. The burrito itself was not too bad, but still lacked fresh good ingredients. With so many Mexican places in the area, you can't slack in anything to have me coming back.

Not a place for ambience, but a good place to get good Mexican food. I always get the chicken burrito and it is nothing like Chipolte. Although I do like Chipolte a lot, this is a different style of burrito, the kind you may get down in Mexico.

Just stopped in for lunch since I work down the street. Have never been here trying something simple for the first time. Their menu looks amazing so I'm definitely coming back for more. Have a full bar and amazing signature drinks. All meals are served with chips and salsa that'll give you insta-sweats. Overall, very impressed.

Me and my buddy were looking to go somewhere we haven't been to eat. This was the only Mexican restaurant in the area, so we went there. To start off, very friendly staff (waitress), smiling all the time which I appreciate very much so. Second off, the food was very fresh, including the chips. Steak in my tacos was done the right way, and Orchata was not to sweet (right balance) i recommend this place to anyone

El Alamo is not your typical authentic Mexican restaurant! It is far better! The food is phenomenal, you can't go wrong no matter what you choose to order. So authentic and delicious! The menu is huge! The tacos, burritos & enchiladas are so delicious!! However, they have many items that give El Alamo an extra flare. Fajitas served in a fresh half pineapple...omg, amazing. Heaping seafood and meat dishes that will leave you wanting more...except there will be nowhere to put more because you leave feeling like you won't ever need to eat again. The portions are big, the prices are just right. Full bar as well, with a great selection of tequila! Plus, on those nights you don't feel like leaving your couch...they deliver!

I was driving around one day craving a burrito. By accident I ended up at El Alamo. When I walked in, the staff was very friendly and the place smelled like there is something good cooking in the kitchen. I ordered a Torta Cubana to go. Few minutes later I had my lunch ready to go. I will be honest with you, within the first bite of my sandwich my mouth started to water. I couldn't believe how good the sandwich was. Chorizo was cooked perfectly, ham was nice and crispy reminding me of bacon, egg was cooked to perfection and the mayo topped it all off. I can truly say that, this was one of the best Cuban sandwiches I ever had. Believe it or not, I went back a week later and ordered the same thing. Again, no disappointment. I give this place so far 5 stars. I will be back to try more entries from their menu. I also overheard that the margaritas are excellent.

Visited this place with my girlfriend on Sunday. Originally, we were headed to a different taqueria in the same plaza, but it was closed for the day, so we headed here. The pros: Good variety of Latin dishes, so if you'd like a certain thing, it will probably be available. Place is small enough for your server to notice when something is needed. Fresh squeezed orange juice. The cons: The place IS authentic, but the food seems like it is missing something. Other places seem to 'care' more about their food and ambience, and this place falls short in that aspect. It's not the place to 'go' if you're after a great taco. It is 'satisfactory', therefore deserving the 3 star rating.

Not a bad lunch special. I've been here twice. The first time they messed up my order, i wanted chicken, they gave me a beef burrito. They corrected it and both flavors taste great! I'll be back for lunch. I've only done pick up so i don't know about the sit it experience. And with the lunch special I order it inshore and it took only about 5 minutes for them to get my food ready. Speedy service with great food!

Visited El Alamo grill as I thought of trying some new joint for mexican lunch instead of chipotle.. It had wide variety of items on the menu .. I ordered chilaquiles ( lunch special ) . It was about $8 .. to be frank a bit on the expensive side considering it as a lunch special . Taste wise the dish was average...may be some chorizo on it would have made it better. The place is clean and service was quite speedy .. Again if given a choice for lunch between chipotle and El alamo i would prefer chipotle considering the price and quality being much better.. Again I am only discussing the lunch menu ..

I took home the flautas, assuming they would be similar to those at tacos el norte, and at the same 2.00 per. But these were thinner, about 33% shorter, and contained only about 1/3 the amount of ground beef. A ripoff, in other words....

The food here is great. Communication between management and staff is poor. I got a restaurant.com certificate on my phone to use. It says right on the app that you can do it right on the phone so I thought, "awesome, this'll be easy." How wrong I was... The guy taking my order kept on saying he needed the print out despite the app saying otherwise. Even after him speaking with the owner, and the hostess with a better grasp of English, they still would not take it. This was nearly 40 minutes of my wasted time. I even showed them that it says right on the app that I could use it without a printout, "just show this page to your server." I tried to explain to them how to process it, no luck. I don't understand why they couldn't have just taken the information (the same info that would be on the printed page) and deal with the business end afterwards? The hostess kept on telling me "We can't have the register short at the end of the night." All I was thinking was: why is this my problem, and why are you wasting my time with this? After all that crap, I just ordered my takeout and got home really late with dinner for my family. They didn't even give me any kind of discount for the trouble. We all enjoyed the meal, some of the best Mexican food in Chicagoland. The extremely poor customer service trumps the greatness of the food. I was extremely frustrated.

Usually when we go eat at Alamo we like the food and service is ok. Today however, we went in for a quick bite to eat before our drive home (we're from out of state). When we got there the waitress was nice-told us to pick a table and she took our drink order. She then came back awhile after and took our food order. After that is when the problem started. Two families sat down after us and their orders were taken and food delivered before us. Waitress never came back after she dropped off our drinks to at least give us a status on our food. We waited for almost an hour and we decided to leave. Our food was getting to our table as we were leaving and my husband told the waitress to pack it up to go. Also, I ordered the Molcajete de Mariscos and the sticker on the orange slices was never even taken off. My husband ordered a taco of asada and 1 of tripa and we only received the asada. We looked at the receipt and the waitress never even put in the order for the taco de tripa. We were upset the there was a family of about 6 people that got there way after us, and still received their food before us. We won't be back in town until probably December, but I doubt that we will go eat there. Although their food is delicious their service today was just way off. Very disappointed!

Went for dinner tonight & definitely will be back. Wife had a beef burrito dinner & I had the steak tacos. While I managed to finish mine, she had to bring half home because it was huge. Both were well made & very tasty. Definitely not the Americanized version. Our service was excellent & timely. About the only drawback were the Margaritas. They were made with some orange juice & had orange slices in them. Tasted a little weird. Otherwise I would recommend them when your in the neighborhood.

Mui Bien! This place is great for what they make. I had some chili relleno *TACOS*, which were not only tasty, but very inexpensive. Also had these mexican grilled onions...I forgot the name, but more or less amazing. I like this place. Very cheap for lunch and good quality....the beans are awesome too.

Bueno... Que puedo decir? I love Alamo - this is the go-to place for Mexican eats. I am pretty much set on tacos from here - they're even open for breakfast. There has been plenty a hangover solved by Taqueria Alamo, especially with a michelada! They have bomb piña coladas here, too. Friday night is "Karaoke" night - Count on drunk Mexicans, no doubt. I'm used to it. Love it!

Love! Love! Love this place! I love their horchata, guacamole, habanero sauce, steak dish with rice, black bean and salad.. My bf is from Venezuela, and he said the food is great so I trust his taste. haha. It is not a fancy restaurant, but we eat here once or twice a month!

Similar to Los Huaraches, it's a solid place to get Mexican food in the 'burbs. Some of the meats are slightly over-salted, but their tacos are very good. What sets this place apart is their complimentary salsa. Most places give you free salsa and chips, but their salsa is delicious. It has a sweet yet tangy flavor but doesn't lose any of its spiciness. Personal Recommendation: Taco, Enchilada, Tamale combo plate.

Great food! (at least from what I had) Very nice presentation. Nice and friendly service. Only wish the interior & setting was a little nicer, more intimate. It would make for a good date night.... right now it's very casual.

We were looking for a Mexican restaurant as we recently moved back to Illinois from southwest....we decided to look on YELP and ended up at El Alamo in Wheeling. The outside of the restaurant was not what we expected (in a strip mall), but we decided to give it a try.. If you are looking for table clothes and a fine dining experience..this isn't it. The atmosphere is very casual..However, the food was delicious and the service was wonderful. Tortilla chips and salsa are a standard for all tables :) We loved the carnita tacos and orchata.... Very authentic..The rice and beans tasted great but could have be a little hotter (room temp). We will be returning!

NEW OWNER REVIEW I've been going to this restaurant for almost a decade. Seen it change a lot. It now has it's 4th owner since three months ago and the food/staff/prices are amazing. Tex Mex or Mexico City food can not get any better than this place. Rick Bayless can go shove it up his fancy ass! Xoco is decent but not for the prices. What separates this place from the rest? Service is excellent! Right when you sit down they bring over homemade salsa and chili sauce with freshly fried chips to dip. I had brunch on Sunday with my father around 11:00AM, place was not that crowed but gets very busy 12:00-1:00pm (after-church crowd) We got the following: Menudo, which came with fresh tortillas for dipping, a plate full of cilantro, fresh white onion and red dried chili's. The broth was rich and full of red chili flavor, the tripe was squishy and yummy. An overall excellent hangover soup. Pozole, thick pork junks, hominy beans, and rich red chili broth. Came with traditional diced radish, sliced avocado, and cabbage. Another excellent dish. We also had some tacos al pastor, perfectly spiced, a little dry but we put some fresh lime on it with the homemade chili sauce, yummy. They are not traditional al pastor with pineapple junks in it but this is just as good. Washed it down with homemade Horchata, great flavor and cooling. All of this for....$26 bucks! That's a steal! Ok, so I kept wondering if I had a really off night since continuing to see all the 5 star reviews after mine. I thought I'd give this place one more try. And I'm glad I did! Things have definitely changed: the decor has been updated and looks much nicer and cleaner. I think it may be under new management as another reviewer stated. My friend and I both ordered the Lomo de Res in Chile de Arbol sauce and both thought it was great! Nice and spicy and huge portions! Chips and salsa were good too! We were really pleased with the waitress as she was super friendly and even gave us some complimentary chips/salsa to go after we mentioned we might like some with our leftovers. She didn't skimp on the extra tortillas we requested either. Next time I will try the chicken tacos as I think they will be much better than last time. I'm glad I gave it another try!

I had the craving for something spicy and satisfying today and the chilaquiles con huevos en salsa roja was just what I needed. The first three bites were just right and as the heat built up, each successive mouthful was equal parts pain and happiness. So good on a colder day like today.

What a cheap thrill!!! Haha Best Spicy Guac ever (I asked for lotsa jalapenos, and they delievered)! and a 1/2 portion (enough for 2 people) was only $2 bucks and some change! I loved our waitress...the sweetest, friendliest woman ever! I ordered the mini burrito plate...which was enough for me, after I stuffed my face with spicy guac and chips. Slightly more seating than your average taqueria. Food is amazingly good. :)

Was looking for a good place since moving out of the city. I tried this one based on the reviews and I enjoyed it as well! I ordered the taco dinner with steak, two fish tacos and a chips and pico de gallo. Thought the steak was a but chewy and could've been more tender and was confused by the tomatoes in the fish tacos, but overall everything else was excellent! The pico de gallo was good and quite spicy. I'd also skip out on the churros as they were stale and must've sat out for a while. Definitely will be coming back since this place is so close to home!

Pretty standard and meh for the area... Nothing to write home about. The food is plain. The usual rice and beans with a pile of something next to it.

Simply amazing. I've only done take out, but I can tell you the nachos are to die for. It's essentially an entire meal in itself. I dock a star only cuz I don't know Spanish and it's sometimes difficult making an order over the phone, but that's not a major issue. It's soooooo good!

We've only done take out . I'd stay away from the barbacoa. It was drenched in sauce and way too salty. The rice and beans are some of the freshest and tastiest we've had in Prospect Heights/Wheeling. My girlfriend loves getting the enchilda and taco combo plate. This place was highly recommended by some friends who know their mexican food.

Taqueria Alamo has great food. They start you off with free salsa and chips. The food is delicious and the service is fast and friendly. I always recommend the tacos. Carnitas with the works. If you want something else, try a torta or burrito. Spicy chorizo too. Good stuff.

Taqueria Alamo is the best Taqueria place in town. Wow, I am amazed at how tasty the food is and yet CHEAP! I always order the Taco Dinner with carne asada, delicious! You gotta give it a try!

I grew up in California, then moved to Texas, then moved from Texas to Chicago. One of the worst things about the 3 years I lived in Chicago was the fact that I couldn't find any decent, real Mexican in the city. Then I found the Taqueria Alamo...and I'm happy. Real, good, Mexican food. Honest-to-goodness GOOD Taqueria. Wow.

This place is great for solid Mexican food - not Tex-Mex. I have eaten most of the menu and I would say the sopes are my favorite.

I was extremely busy at work so my brother picked me up some food at this joint during my lunch, so unfortunately I can't comment on the ambiance of the place or prices. Having been caught off guard by my brother in regards to what I wanted & due to lack of inspiration from my pathetic brain going through the attorney's paperwork, I thought I would play it safe & go w/chicken quesadillas because you can't really mess that up. WELL, I guess I thought wrong because they were not very appetizing. All I tasted was this greasey flavor & salt. What grossed me out was when I picked up a quesadilla & my hand was covered in this fanta -orange colored grease. I refuse to acknowledge it was "sauce" because there was no flavor to the food other than the salt. I barely even managed to savor a taste of my chicken. Bleh. It didn't help that the food was lukewarm, now mind you this place is not far from my work at all & it was lunch time, so I expected my food to be at least warm! The lettuce was really old because it was turning brown, so it wasn't fresh & they gave me ONE tomato slice. Yea, got that? They go all out with the chicken & decide to save money by giving me one tomato slice...& I wanted more because it actually was ruby red & fresh. In addition, I only got maybe a small dollop of sour cream on top of my wilted lettuce. I gave them two stars because they do give you a hearty portion & stuff them to death with chicken & cheese (flavorless though). I would not recommend this place unless you are willing to have your blood pressue go through the roof!

Pretty good place!!! I really enjoyed the fact that this place didn't have the same mexican menu you see all over. Burrito, or taco and pick your protein, that is boring. This place had tongue and tripe taco, come on now were talking!!! They also had some good looking tortas, I can't wait to try them next time.

I love this place. Really love it. As a person who has been in the restaurant and hospitality industry for more than 20 years, I can say that I'd rather eat here than some of the Michelin starred fluffy eateries I've been to. The seafood is great considering how far away from salt water we are.

This place is awesome, but you'd completely miss it if you weren't looking for it. We only found it because we moved to the area and saw how great the ratings and reviews were already! We've eaten here about 5 times in the past 2 weeks, and we absolutely love it. They start you off with free chips and salsa, which is a great start considering they are some of the best chips I've ever had. We've tried a variety of things already, but our favorites are the chorizo tacos, the chorizo burrito, the shrimp tacos, and the chilaquiles. Everything is so fresh and delicious and the prices are completely reasonable. Oh, and the service is awesome too! The waitresses are so friendly and they always have a smile on their face. Even during the busy lunchtime rush your food comes out quickly!

Good Mexican joint in suburbs. The tacos and burritos are big and filling. The margaritas are ok and are a little diluted with ice. Good ambiance and play loud music at night.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
