Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

LOVE this place . They have excellent daily lunch specials and overall delicious food . The staff is great and very attentive . Their green salsa is the BEST I've had anywhere in the Chicagoland area (and I frequent taquerias regularly). Their food is always fresh and tasty. I recommend everything on their menu. My stomach is grumbling as I type this so I'll end it here .

Don't be put off by this former Arby's location. After living in TX and So Cal, we are particular about our Mexican. Chips served with 2 kinds of salsa and pico de gallo. Tried 3 types of tacos (carne asada, carnitas and al pastor). All were excellent -al pastor, the best. Generous portions at reasonable prices - $2.25 each. Fresh guacamole side for $5. Carne Asada burrito was a little heavy on the lettuce, but still good. Realized this is a second location - original on Western since 1988. That explains this suburban surprise!

Love this place. The steak Gordita had great flavor.Taco El pastor was very good also. They have daily lunch specials. And there prices are great.I stopped here for lunch a few times ,when I m working in that area.pretty solid Mexican food.

Stopped by for some tacos with my buddy after visiting micro center nearby. I ordered the taco dinner (steak chicken al pastor) and it was perfect. Would visit again! Also, get their horchata. Mmmm..

Wow! This place just blew my expectations away. The chorizo gordita was juicy and when I bit into it I thought a flavor bomb exploded in my mouth. Al pastor taco was the same. Arturo's is authentic, but not too authentic if you know what I mean. Better than every Mexican place I eat at downtown. Great service

This place is pretty good. The salsa and pico they bring with the chips is pretty spicy. Prices are reasonable. Don't let the ex-Arby's location deter you - the food is great, the service adequate, and it isn't fancy - which is a good thing.

This place has a basic Mexican menu. Everything I've ordered from here is delicious. I love the fact that they have a drive thru. When Grande Jakes is busy, or I am in a hurry, or I want more than a delicious El Famous burrito, Arturo's hits the spot. Staff is always friendly too.

I know it looks shady and not very appealing, but this is a hidden gem! The food is fresh and outstanding. The prices are very very reasonable. Try the fish soup - it would be well over $20 at any other restaurant. It had every type of seafood you could imagine in it for like $9.00. Everything here is excellent.

My husband and I had been "running" all day and stopped at Arturo's because we were starving and were just driving by. The drive through was an unexpected bonus and the service was fast and courteous. We were very pleasantly surprised when we got home as the food was delicious! We have been back to eat in the dining room and it was even better! We will definitely be back

Some of the best chargrilled and marinated chicken anywhere. Portions are enormous for the value. This is quickly becoming a regular carry out destination for my family. Have not eaten in there but look forward to soon and to enjoying their huge margaritas. Really can't beat this place.

When I had come in U.S. first time, I was asked what cuisine was my preference...well, I didn't use to be very familiar with verity of foods... So that question was inconvenient to me...Once I remember, one lady (who didn't mean anything wrong), jokes to me, " hey, you don't know anything, where did you grow up?" We, in my country, mostly eat national food, but here in U.S. ethic food is daily.... Back to the place I wanna say; I am trying everything new, this place was in my " try list" and I made it. So, the place is totally Mexican, staff, interior, food etc....I came in and wasn't sure what I wanted, like I mentioned, I have been getting to know ethical food, but they represented me whole menu, additional questions were asked and answered too. I have gone there about three times in short period (means I like the spot:) had Chick tacos, ground beef burritos. I had tried tacos before so I can say how was it so far...delicious! Burritos was good too....I know there more to try in Mexican cousin, ready to roll...lol

Will not return. Worst service. Was eating alone. Went to bathroom. I had alot food left on plate and drink was thrown out. Table was cleared within 4 minutes of me being in the bathroom. Had chile relleno dinner. Will not recommend. Batter was very thick. Thicker than the pepper itself. Soggy. Sauce lacked flavor. They skimmed on the cheese. It was the poor quality cheese anyways. Its not a standout dish for this establishment. Tacos was champ. Had 2 kinds. The carne asada and the pollo. Both meats was fresh and generous portions. Thats what gave them 2 star. I would have left 3 or 4 star if it wasnt for the piss poor service. Coworkers have come to this location and raved about it. I came tonight dealing with bad traffic and was disappointed. So maybe it was just bad luck on my part.

Excellent! Can't say enough about this place. They start you off with chips and three dipping options. There's an Avacado Green Sauce that is amazing, a pico type dip that is great and a red sauce that I tend to leave alone. Can be quite spicy. Then onto the food. I come for lunch as I'm from the city and we have an office in Northbrook. They have excellent lunch specials for CHEAP! Chips, Dips, drink & meal for less than $10!! If you haven't been yet. GO! Service is fantastic as well. Definitely my favorite Mexican in the area!!

This place is unreal. Best Mexican food I've ever had. Hands down. And the prices can't be beat! Crazy cheap. Also, the employees are so sweet and welcoming!

I have been here twice now for a family dinner and both times we have left stuffed! They are always very accomodating when our party of 10 plus comes in. Our food and drinks come out fast and hot. The place has a drive thru, full bar, and all your Mexican favorites. I wanted to give them 5 stars but the steak was not the same on our second visit. It was a bit chewy which I did not like. That is probably the only negative thing I have to say about this place. One of my favorite things to have here is the sope. Nice and crispy loaded with toppings. The chorizo is good here too. Not too greasy. They place has a great selection of Mexican beer, sodas and waters. There is also a juke box to play your favorite songs. I will warn you, the music plays at a high volume. Too much for the crappy speakers to handle.

This place is a gem. I had some of the tastiest lengua tacos in recent memory and the fish and shrimp tacos my partner ordered were delicious as well. I preferred them with the onions and cilantro, but you can get them "American style" and they were tasty that way as well. We topped it off with a piña colada and left VERY satisfied. My only regrets are that there is no milder salsa at the table (although the spicy green tomatilla salsa is amazing) and the guac is a little bland. The service was prompt and courteous and ensured we will be repeat customers.

Great food, horrendous service. We will be doing to go from now on. Try the shrimp tacos

This place was somewhat of a disappointment. I had a craving for mexican (I usually do) and this place seemed quite good based off the pictures and reviews. My guest and I arrived at 5 and the restaurant was empty. Our waitress arrived quickly to our table and we ordered a piña colada and guacamole right away. However, service really lacked despite the restaurant being pretty empty. Both the guac and piña colada were good. Probably one of the best piña coladas I had! So yey as far as that goes. For our meal, I ordered the fried tacos and my guest ordered the enchiladas with the red sauce. I really can't say I enjoyed my meal. Nothing was special about it and the sour cream had a really strange taste. I tried my guest's enchiladas and the red sauce completely ruined it. It almost tasted like metal. Any ways, the problem was fixed quick and she got them without any sauce. Overall the experience was just not that great. I will not return in the future cause the food and service just lacked.

Awesome place we stumbled upon while searching the interweb. Walked in and didn't smell like dirty fryer!!! Amazing!!! Clean as can be. Food was great! Loved the salsa sampler they brought to the table. Burrito was Delish and not overly greasy. And the service. BEYOND GREAT! Nice guy, great at his job. Anticipated what we needed before we could even ask without being annoying. Go! Give them your money!!! You won't be sorry!!!!... Now I want a burrito...

The food and service here is incredible. Steak Fajitas are the best I've ever had. I'm usually very critical of restaurants and nitpick at little things but couldn't find anything at this place. Arturos delivers amazing food and even better prices.
(5)Sarah D.
Arturo's has the best looking and best tasting piña coladas I've ever tasted. It had more of a coconut flavor than any of the others I've tried. The lime margarita was pretty good, too! It wasn't very busy for a Saturday night, so I had a good time relaxing and enjoying the soccer game. The Mexican gyro gordita I had was pretty nice and filling, and the tortilla chips and salsas that came with were good as well. The wait staff was also very friendly. I'd definitely make Arturo's a regular place to visit.

Tasty, quality food, with good lunch specials.

Came to Arturo's Mexican grill because it's been on my bookmarks to try for quite some time and we decided to check it out on a Friday evening one night. We got here around 6:30pm and it wasn't too packed so I picked out a nice booth by the window, the place is definitely spacious and for a Friday night I was surprised there weren't more people there, but maybe it was still early or maybe people were doing more carryout orders. Once we were seated our server brought us two types of salsa and warm tortilla chips. The green tomatilla salsa was super spicy which I really like as it has such a kick and tons of flavor. The red regular salsa was okay and definitely more mild but both went nicely with the warm chips while we waited for our order. We decided to go for a bunch of tacos since the pics a few people posted looked awesome, we tried the pastor tacos, the carne asada which is the steak tacos, chicken tacos and the lomo tacos which is a different kind of marinated steak. The chicken tacos I would definitely pass on and the two best tacos here are the pastor tacos and the carne asada. The pastor which is marinated pork had such a yummy sauce but it wasn't over drenched in sauce which I wouldn't have liked. That one was probably my favorite. The carne asada was also super tasty and not too chewy which was nice for a steak taco and the best part is most of the tacos are like $2 a piece so it's definitely not expensive to get full here. The tacos you can also get with lettuce, cheese and tomatoes if you want those extra toppings but I just like them with the meat and maybe a little bit of onion. The people working here are very friendly and our orders were brought out fast and efficiently. I would definitely come here again knowing the staff is super nice, the atmosphere reminds me of a local place in Mexico and the food is tasty. It's not the best Mexican food ever, but for a suburban place it's definitely worth a try. Oh and my friends swears by their whole fried fish which you can definitely also try.

Went here last been got with my sister for dinner our server was very annoying! We asked for hot sauce she goes over what they have we say we'll take Tabasco but then she also bring out 4 other kinds. Then she explained why they were all good... Um thanks? The food was good at best we shared an order of chicken nachos and a chimichanga. It took us forever to get the server back for anything which was very annoying. When she came to pick up our food she commented on how we finished all the food.... After she walked away we both felt as it was an insult. Like what did she gain by saying that? Also we split the food but it's not her job to point out we finished 2 plates.we asked for the check so we could leave but she never came back to pick up the check so we walked it up there. On the front counter they had all the dirty dishes that were cleaned off of multiple tables! It was nasty they weren't even moving them they were just chillin there. Won't be back it's not clean and the service is lacking.

Great food and a full bar if you are staying in. Fast drive thru if you are in a hurry. They have Hecho Coke! (For those who like Mexican coca cola).
(5)Kcmc M.
Been there a couple times and both times very good. Food is very tasty and the service is very friendly and good. The atmosphere is a comfortable setting where you can relax and eat. Go to Mexican food place!!

First, don't know which Arturo's a previous reviewer thought would appeal to "yuppies" but I'm pretty sure this isn't it. This about as authentic as you can get. I'm not sure that it is the best of the local Mexican restaurants but it is becoming a family favorite. There are 2 types of Mexican restaurants around here: those that focus on ambiance (frequented by typical suburban people) OR those that focus on delicious, authentic food (frequented by people who know how real Mexican food should taste. Arturo's is definitely all about the food but has a bit of ambience as well. We have been here several times now. We enjoy the complimentary 3 salsas and pico de gallo with chips. The pork al pastor is good. The coctel de camarón con pulpo has a great flavor, is a generous portion of seafood and artistically presented. The chilaquiles had an excellent flavor but a bit mushy for me. But the family favorites are their tortas. Very affordable, pleasant ambiance and good food. We will be back

My husband went one time by himself. He suggested it for us for dinner one night. The steak tacos and chicken tacos were tasty. My husband would have preferred white meat for the chicken, but it was very flavorful in my opinion. We'll be trying it again. And love that they have horchata.
(4)Rita S.
Its hard to find good authentic Mexican restaurants in the suburbs. Arturo's has great authentic food and great prices. They have a drive through which is even better for a fast pace dinner to go.

This place stinks of sewer gas. I was here last year during the flooding of the Des Plaines river and thought that it was affecting their sewer system. It was so bad that the smell was mixed with gallons of pine sol in attempts to cover it up. I've driven by this place monthly since then but couldn't get the courage to go back in. A couple of weeks ago I gave in and stopped by. No sewer gas odor when I entered, near the register or at the table. On the way to the bathroom I started noticing a horrible sewer gas odor. Something is not right with the plumbing in this place, there are very serious health hazards associated with sewer gas odor. Somewhere in this building there is an open sewer pipe. The Wheeling health department should be closing this place down until they can get properly functioning drain/waste piping. I've noticed this both times I was here, 12 months apart. Why no other yelper has commented on this is a mystery to me, that being said, this place only has a few reviews.

Best Mexican food in the NW suburbs - period, and I've been looking for a long, long time. Great tacos - I've tried the carne asada, lengua, al pastor, and chorizo, and they all rate as high as all the taquerias I've haunted in my life growing up Mexican in Chicago. Great sides too, the rice and beans are delicious, the sauces are great, and the complimentary chiles en vinagre are yummy and authentic. The only gripe I have with this place is it's poor business savvy - the last restaurant at the location was awful (tacomiendo), and they have not had the good sense, five months after taking over the space, to take down the old sign. This place has tremendous potential... I hope more people try it and report in as to how they like the food.
