Was good for breakfast food. The crepes were on the sweet side, but would recommend this place for a good breakfast & friendly service.

I am told this place is called the Verdict because there are courts nearby and the people who work at the courts eat here. This is a straight up diner. They don't try to do the highbrow four or five dollar coffees or they're not lowbrow like Denny's. I've had breakfast here twice and it is exactly as I expected. The clientele, besides the people who work at the courts, are old folks, moms and kids, etc. so just ordinary people.

Oh, Verdict, I'm never quite sure how I feel about you. While I'm glad to have a breakfast-all-day place so nearby, I've experienced surly service from you a time or two and just not been as pleased with your food as I feel I should have been. Many of your servers are lovely (one or two are not), but the person who who seems to own you can be grumpy and even rude. Tsk tsk. However, HOWEVER, you do have some of the best gluten free pancakes I've ever tasted (and I've tasted many), so I'll keep coming back regardless.

Waiter was pushing and honestly not helpful at all. Food was ok, editable, but nothing to write home about. Never again. Bottom line.

I've come here a couple of times for an early dinner, before a meeting that's held just down the road. I've only ordered the BLAT with fries, and it's delicious. Huge plates of food. Good service. Nothing fancy, but the food is decent diner-style food from what I can tell. It's better than the fast-food joints around...

This is a very nice diner with good food, fast friendly service and reasonable prices. My favorite dish is the bacon and avocado omelet. It is a little slice of heaven

Please be aware that as of the weekend on Aug. 7th the Verdict has changed their operating hours. They now close at 3:30 PM everyday of the week. This will greatly surprise a lot of people who will be stopping there for dinner.

We enjoyed a late breakfast here recently and the food is delicious! I had the veggie benedict which included three poached eggs, artichoke hearts, mushrooms and spinach topped with a wonderful hollandaise sauce. It was sumptuous and mighty good. My wife had the "Innocent Skillet" and couldn't finish it. It was so big. Nice big cups of coffee and you have the makings of a really solid breakfast place. You've got to watch for the place or you might miss it, but it's worth the search.

In reference to Peter K's comment posted on 6/21/2015: I am thinking this is the man I was seated next to during Fathers Day breakfast this past weekend. I overheard the customer state that the kitchen was out of capers and that something was wrong with his onion, the server was visibly upset by how the customer handled the situation. She immediately sent the owner to the table but the owner's attempts to fix the order were met with vulgar language and rude, loud comments!!! I had to bite my tongue because I couldn't believe how mean the man was to the employee and the owner! My family and I have been coming here for years and The Verdict always serves up great food with kind service. The owner goes above and beyond to make sure you are happy!!! Do not let Peter K's comment deter you from dining at this restaurant!!!!

So where to start. We dropped in while looking for a place to eat on the way home. Pleasant surprise! The sick thing here is I have driving by "The Verdict" the last 10 years traveling here and have missed the great meals. Kirsty R review is one of the problem reviews as it is obvious she must have a vendetta against the business. To bad there isn't a way to to flag it. We will be back. Just met the owner very nice guy.

I've been to the Verdict on multiple occasions, but I feel like it's time to update my previous (2009) review. I love breakfast foods, and the Verdict does have very good breakfast, but I had eggs earlier in the day, and since it was dinner time, I decided to go with their dinner fare, specifically a Grecian dish. After debating between a few things, I decided on the Slouvaki Chicken Platter. It comes with a choice of beef or chicken, and I went double bird. There's a picture of the dish on their menu, so I was swayed by that. The meal also comes with soup or small greek salad, their house rice, potato, veggies, a mini loaf of their homemade bread, and a complimentary dessert (jello, rice/chocolate/tapioca pudding, fruit, or ice cream. Since I was a to go order, the ice cream wasn't an option. Also, I ordered double veggies instead of the potato. I'm not quite sure if I got double veggies (no pic, sorry), but I did get rice and a serviing of veggies in my tray. As for my soup, I went with the roasted red pepper, which is a common soup in their rotation (check site for daily soups). For dessert, I opted for the chocolate pudding. I really want to give the Verdict a 5 star rating... Food and the prices are right, but there's always a small issue with my experience. This time, when going through our to go orders (there were just 2; a coworker and myself), they forgot my pudding! I was really looking forward to it too. As for the rest of my meal... YUM! The chicken kebobs were actually my least favorite part of the meal. They were good, but nothing really stood out. They were skewered with red onion and peppers, but the chicken really had no outstanding flavor. Besides the chicken, everything else was excellent. The yellow rice had a slight butter flavor and pieces of carrots in it. The veggies featured green beans, broccoli, and carrots. They weren't wilted at all which was very surprising! The homemade bread was super good. About as big as an italian beef roll, the light brown roll tasted amazing by itself, with butter, and in the red pepper soup. The soup was my favorite part of the meal. Not sure what exactly is in the soup, but I will definitely be ordering again. No chunky veggies and not too heavy; not sure if it was completely cream or broth based. In the end, I actually did call back and pick up my pudding. I was also given a complimentary eclair. The custard inside the eclair was amazing! All in all, the Verdict is a great place for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, and I'm looking forward to my next visit.

Update to my review...so bummed that the Verdict is only open to 3:30 now. Probably won't get to go any more since I have to work during the day. Very upsetting. Love the Verdict Restaurant! Although I have lived right by it for about 14 years, I only tried it about a year ago. What a surprise! Their Gyros are excellent. I just discovered my new guilty pleasure...Gyros and Eggs. You get the best of both worlds...breakfast and dinner! 2 eggs, fluffy hashbrowns (awesome hashbrowns) and huge serving of gyros and you can select pancakes as a side! So delicious! It's a huge amount of food for the price with plenty of gyros left over to take home for lunch the next day! They also have friendly servers and great service. I am so glad we found this little gem so close to home!

Good, solid Greek diner with great service, food, portions and prices. They even have oversized coffee mugs. Plus, it's called the Verdict since it's by the Wheaton courthouse and I love cheesy names. Hands down, they have the best breakfast in the area. Hashbrowns are crispy on the outside and tender and buttery on the inside. And, if you don't want to be a fattie and have the fruit instead of hashbrowns, they give you a very nice portion of super fresh fruit. Usually places that offer fruit as a sub give you a measly wedge of overripe cantaloupe! Not here. They have a ton of different benedicts to choose from including a smoked salmon option and it's under $10. Hello screaming deal! Their version with spinach is also delish. And, they have the BEST bacon in the world. I am not kidding. You get 4 pieces of the thickest and tastiest bacon and it's cooked just right so it's crispy and chewy at the same time. At lunch, you can't go wrong with one of their melts. I like the turkey one on rye. Their rye bread slices are humungous and they use real turkey not the slimey deli kind. With lunch or dinner, you also get your choice of soup. I've had several and all were very, very good with the chicken, rice, lemon being my favorite. The staff including bus boys have been here for years. This tells me the owners are good and treat their employees with respect. I really appreciate that. Ya, this place is a favorite of ours in the Wheaton area. Whatever we order it always hits the spot. Love it. Now go there and you will love it too!

Old Chicago Greek restaurant. Big menu. Great food and plenty of it. Reasonable prices. Great breakfast and lunch place.

I wanted to respond to Peter K's post. I, too, was having a meal during the breakfast rush on Father's Day at the Verdict. The servers were all doing their best to keep up with the volume of customers. From what I observed meals were being served in a timely manner. Ours was delicious. He was rude to his server, and treated her in a disrespectful manner by using foul language and speaking loudly enough that we could hear him. I think the servers and management at the Verdict are wonderful. Kudos to them on a tough day:)

If you can make it a point to come here you must try this place! Family Greek owned restaurant with an array of choices to pick from, HUGE portions, great prices, and friendly employees!!! Their specials include soup or salad, meal AND dessert. Definitely a must try!

  • Erinn N.

Ok to start they have my all time favorite soup every day chicken rice egg lemon. Soooo good! But besides that I have developed an obsession with their Greek chicken breast. Good food, relatively fast friendly service! Decent selection of food, will be back often!

We had incredibly slow service our first visit here. The Greek gyros skillet was a standout...the eggs were poached perfectly. Husband got the Cajun Benedict which had potential but was smothered (in a bad way) in the seasoning. Parking was easy and I liked the diner ambiance so we will give it another try.

The Verdict Restaurant is a small and cozy diner located off of County Farm road in Wheaton. Located just on the other side of the street from the large shopping center that is home to Target and Ultra Foods it might not be immediately visible to those passing by (I had never noticed it before) but is well worth keeping your eye open for. The inside is clean with a good amount of seating available, there's nothing particularly noteworthy about the decor. After walking in I was immediately greeted and seated, after looking over the menu I noticed that most of the items here are court themed (hence the name Verdict restaurant). I decided on a skillet called "The guilty" which contained cheese, ham, onions, sausage, and bacon. For a drink, I also decided on ordering the municipal building code violation also known as Cola (well, not really be it would be funny if they carried the naming convention scheme all the way). I chose pancakes instead of toast as the side. My waitress was friendly and courteous. Not too long after placing my order my food was ready. The skillet I received was nice and hot, the sausage and meat pieces were well cooked and flavorful. The big thing that made this skillet great was that the potato's at the bottom were nice and crisp. The eggs were spot on, and everything had just the right amount of seasoning. This was one of the better skillets I've come across. The pancakes here were fairly average but I did appreciate the thick and sweet maple syrup that came with it. Overall I was very happy with my meal. My general opinion of the verdict was very high, great service, great food at a fair price. I wouldn't say the food here is the best of breakfast places I've visited. But it's certainly in the top 3. I highly recommend Verdict Restaurant, the verdict is in and they're guilty of being a great place to stop for breakfast. Five stars, case closed *pounds gavel*.

Horrible place. I got nothing right that I ordered and they had attitude about it too. Customer comes last here. Stay away.

The amount of food you get is staggering. The corned beef hash is homemade. The gravy for biscuits and gravy he is white gravy with a good amount of pepper. All in all five stars and the waitresses here are fantastic. These people move! I have never seen a better staff at a Greek restaurant. My fiancé and I just purchased a home in the area and we were looking for new restaurant to try. We just Yelp this this morning and I am thrilled to say this will be one of our favorites enjoy!

Pass this place weekly and finally decided to check it out. Went for a casual Friday night dinner. They had a lot of choices on their menu! My husband and I ordered pasta dishes; Mostaccioli and Chicken Parm. They were excellent. Being Italian and raised in the NY area, I know what good Italian food is and what it should taste like. The sauce was great! We went back again two weeks ago and my husband had a great burger and I had a good salad. Cute Greek diner with excellent food! Worth a visit!

I gave this four stars because the food is really good but they also have takeout which is really nice. My family lives pretty close to the restaurant and I can't remember the last time we actually ate there, we always order out. They're really good about keeping the food warm until we get there-even the soup is still really hot. They include bread every time which is also really nice. The food is all pretty good. The lemon pepper rice soup is amazing! I get some every time I go. I have ordered both breakfast and lunch items and have been satisfied every time.

I have to say this this review is YEARS in the making. I have been frequenting The Verdict for as long as I can remember. My Grandparents used to drive to The Verdict what seemed like every weekend. My Grandpa knew all the waitresses, knew the menu back and forth and was in love with this place. I have NEVER had bad service at The Verdict. That's a feat to say nowadays, and I hope that everyone else can keep that experience too. The service is always friendly, prompt and the servers typically have a great sense of humor as well! Oh, and the food is amazing as well!

This is the 2nd time I came here, and both times I really enjoyed the food. The staff was friendly, the restrooms are clean, and you have to get the steak and eggs medium rare if you're into bloody. Whether you are coming back from court, probation, or being sued, or if you're just in the area stop by because here we all get along despite what side your on. Peace at the verdict! Ask for Charlene, she is awesome, and very positive, made us feel welcomed.

The food (we got Grecian gyros and Grecian chicken) is very good but what swayed me to review were the absolutely huge portions and a dessert came with my meal (nice surprise). We went for dinner one evening and we both took home enough food for 2 more meals (seriously)!

We have been eating at The Verdict since they opened 18 years ago anywhere between 1 to 4 times a week for breakfast, lunch or dinner. We have never, ever seen a cockroach!!!! It seems strange that the reviewer that saw them also had friends who saw them in just 2 visits, and we have never seen one in all these years!! We have traveled a lot and find The Verdict to be one of the best in all aspects: food quality, value, service, and friendliness. They hire young people and train them to be excellent servers. We watched many of them graduate high school, college and get great paying jobs. There are also many, many "regulars" like ourselves that appreciate the cleanliness, friendliness, and value of this restaurant. We hope you give them a try, if you haven't already.

Cockroaches, cockroaches, cockroaches!!!! I use to eat here but years after eating here one day I spotted a cockroach. The food is good especially their lemon drop soup but after seeing the cockroaches I never returned. My coworkers were eating here one day despite me warning them they had cockroaches and they saw a roach crawling across their table. Hate to say I told you so, but I told you so. Service is OK nothing to brag about.

Solid place. Solid food, friendly, quick service and a nice big menu. Local family owned diner. Food is not spectacular but nothing is bad. The red pepper soup, served only on Mondays and Thursdays, is excellent, as are the fries. The portions are large. They serve a professional clientele due to it being so close to the courthouse, but they aren't stuck up. You can often chat with the owners as you settle your bill and they are there pretty much everyday. I've never had a bad meal.

  • Jennifer D.

Great price but horrible luch. Started w/ a salad w/ Italian dressing. The dressing was like when you don't shake the bottle, tasted watered down. Main course was pork oscar (pork flank fried w/ hollandaise sauce, crabmeat and asparagus), it was fake crabmeat...had I looked at the price I might have known so maybe that was my bad...but the dried up 'jerky' chop was what determined this post; hopefully I will save someone from this bad choice. I even found the dessert a bit off. I got lemon merengue and the top was great but the crust had a maple flavor. The only good point I can make is that all of that food came with my main course and was only like $12.

  • Joshua L.

One of the better breakfast places in the area, hands down. My family has been here a few times in the past year, and each time it's been absolutely delicious. I'm not a big eater by any means, but this is one of the VERY few places that I will push myself to the max stomach capacity to finish everything (and then some). The wait staff is extremely friendly and attentive, but it's the food that really drives the rating. Everything is prepared virtually perfect...hash browns are crispy, eggs aren't overdone, pancakes fluffy and moist, and bacon/sausage, delicious. I always get the standard breakfasts, while my wife usually gets a skillet. And we definitely need the extra order of bacon AND sausage (the pup at home lucks out with those leftovers). Why four and not five stars? The food is great, staff is awesome, prices are just/fair, location is close, and food is great (yeah, I said it twice), it's missing just that little "something" to get it to five. Perhaps a menu item that is truly original? Something that differentiates the menu from your standard ones.... I HIGHLY recommend this place and will continue to take my family there.

  • Paul S.

This place is run by an old-world Greek family that treats everyone like family. I've never had a bad meal here, and the portions are sized like you had a Greek mama that was trying to fatten you up. The place may not look like much from the street, but the food and great service are why this place is always getting repeat customers.

  • Gemma K.

Was I having lunch with a lawyer? Yes Am I a lawyer? No Was I dressed like a lawyer? Fortunately, yes. It's a good thing too: for a second I thought some sort of surveillance camera, with the ability to detect barristers from non, would sound off when I entered the place. Fear not, this little diner is a charming cross between a Ma and Pa kitchen, a bank, a law library, a conference room, and a judge's chamber. From the lighting, to the clientele rolling in after court session down the road, to the art work, to the "supreme court-like columns" it has atmosphere. It also has very good service and very good food! We managed a 2-seater booth for lunch and I really enjoyed my spinach feta pie. Great flavor and it came with a nice portion of fresh, fresh fruit. My friend had one of their lunch/dinner specials: artichoke and chicken linguine. I grabbed a taste; also very good. There were also about 4-5 different types of fresh soup, as well as 5-10 types of desserts; carrot cake looked good, as did the homemade apple pie. From the tons of stacked up "to go" containers, I suspect that is a massive additional draw here at The Verdict. I mean, do lawyers really have time for lunch? Should they have time for lunch? I don't think Tom Cruise ever had time for more than a sandwich, but every firm seems to be different. My verdict on this place: I'm definitely a fan!

Always a good meal. Very friendly staff. Very nice soup selection. Portions are generally large, so I always has leftovers for the next day. Not health food, not creative, but dependable and affordable!

Had high hopes based on the reviews, and my daughter and I eagerly decided to try the Verdict out. We went to have breakfast, and ordered crepes, pancakes, with sausage. Crepes were more like rubbery pancakes on the thick side. Pancakes were mushy, sausage was greasy and flavorless. The waitress literally slammed our plates down on the table. Wow, what did we do to offend you??? Won't make that mistake again!

My second visit to this restaurant as I did enjoy the breakfast there. I had a nice meal, the waitress was attentive and then when it was time to go I bought the bill up to the counter to pay....I had to go that way to leave...The woman who owns it started to accuse my waitress of not doing a good job because of me!!! She was very nasty to this poor woman...I felt terrible. I spoke up and told the woman that my waitress had done a great job and I was just paying my bill...she then accused the waitress of complaining about her to me as if we were somehow partners in this.... then she started verbally insulting me!!!! Her husband came over and joined in and it was just the most offensive thing I have ever seen as a customer..These Greeks don't know how to treat their staff or their customers and they clearly don't understand what verbal abuse is...It was incredible....I was simply trying to tell them the service was fine ...The husband told me not to tell him how to treat his staff and told me I didn't have to come back...WHAT are these people crazy....I happen to work across the street with several thousand employees and I have told all of my coworkers what happened and we are all boycotting this place for life. Truly the most disgusting two people I have met..they might want to look up the definition of a paying customer..I strongly suggest the two of them go to some kind of counseling to take care of their anger management issues..or maybe they should just move back to GREASE...the VERDICT on this GREASY Spoon is a huge thumbs down. Don't go there.

We came here for breakfast with a toddler. Everyone that worked there was very nice and very friendly, it was very welcoming. I *LOVE* how the menu has healthy options. It's nice to be able to go out for breakfast and not regret it. They have a huge breakfast menu, and everything looks good. I went with the Ironman Omelette. It's an egg white omelette with mushrooms, avocado, tomatoes, onions and green pepper, and is served with some fresh fruit on the side. I was a little iffy on how it would be with the avocado inside the omelette instead of just on top, but it was really tasty. I would definitely order it again. But there's so much on the menu i'll have to make the rounds before I get back to it. Good little diner to hit up for breakfast.

I've frolicked around the Carol Stream/Wheaton area for several years now and NEVER heard of The Verdict Restaurant until a friend of mine (who lives in the north suburbs and comes out this way for work periodically) suggested we meet up there after they were done at the county courthouse. WONDERFUL! FABULOUS! TASTY! I couldn't inhale my food fast enough! Seriously! Rarely do I ever eat so quickly, but both times I've been there I inhaled my food because it was so tasty. Besides their breakfast foods and their great prices, when I say I want hash brown "extra crispy" they know exactly what I mean. Both times I've been here the services was perfect. As Misty S. said, "attentive but not overbearing." I'm sad that I discovered this hidden gem just as I was leaving the area. I'll have to stop by when I'm in the neighborhood.

I wanted to see bars on the windows, FBI ten most wanted posters on the wall and maybe the host/hostess could dress in a Judge's robe complete with a gavel. That's just me being cheesy. I did appreciate how some of the menu items had "law enforcement" names. Like "The Innocent" basically a veggie skillet, followed by "The Guilty" a meat filled skillet. How could you not love a diner called "Verdict Restaurant" just down the road from the DuPage County Courthouse. A clean, tidy and family friendly spot. It was a nice stop after some shopping in the area. Friendly service from beginning to end and a HUGE breakfast menu. Me and my friend had lingered long enough to see that they offer either the breakfast or lunch menu after 1130. Lingered--yes, we didn't feel rushed or pressured to leave. Once we had our breakfast dishes cleared, our server still asked me if I wanted a refill of my coffee. I opted for the veggie egg white omelet, it came with a choice of hasbrowns or fruit and then either toast or pancakes. I just wanted the hashbrowns and fruit and they were fine with my request. The egg white omelet was great. The veggies were fresh and not overcooked and the omelet itself was not watery--which sometimes happens with lots of veggies. The omelet wasn't greasy either--another big plus. The fruit (melons and grapes) was very fresh, but the hashbrowns were just meh. The coffee is piping hot, but not as strong as I'd like. The verdict? I'm guilty...of liking Verdict Restaurant!

Just want to thank the yelpers who reviewed this restaurant. We live about an hour away but had business to take care of nearby around supper time. Since we aren't familiar with the area, we turned to yelp for help! So, what's the verdict on this diner? We voted with the majority of the jurors who declared the defendant to be guilty of serving delicious food in great quantities at reasonable prices! Enjoyed everything from the Saganaki through the rice pudding. I had so much food left over that I was able to get two more meals out of it.

This is my all-time favorite family diner! I've been here well over a dozen times. The food is delicious and the service is outstanding! The price is great. Also, this Is a great place to grab take-out. The menu has an enormous variety of food, so there is something for everyone! I highly recommend!!

Fast service, great price, good food. The waitress was attentive but not overbearing. Their menu was so big, it took me a while to read through. They have sandwiches, burgers, steaks, gyros, pasta, seafood, and even stir fry. GYRO PITA: For under $9, it came with 1 side and a soup or salad. There were plenty of meat in the gyro (so much that I had to take it home). The sweet and sour cabbage soup was really good. And what better way to end a meal than with a dumdum...love those suckers. The owner (or manager) is so friendly and funny. As we were exiting out of the restaurant, he furiously waved good bye to us with a big smile on his face.

My boyfriend takes me here when I want to remember my family. Having moved far away, I don't often get mom's homemade cooking but this place is my favorite stand in. I've even ventured outside of the traditional breakfast favorites of mine. The shrimp and crab pasta last night was just what I was craving. The Law burger was pretty awesome as well! And the name is so clever considering the vicinity of the courthouse. Both dining in and carry out are great, with great servers and large takeout portions.

Pretty decent coffee and food was better than I thought it would be after seeing the so-so decor. I imagine much less busy than Eggclectic and Egg Harbor as that's where all the Wheatonites go post church.

Had breakfast there once. Hash browns were soggy and tasteless. Found black avocado pieces in my omlette, which is not acceptable! Please serve fresh produce. Mushrooms weren't cooked at all, the whole thing again was just tasteless. Also gave me stomach pains for the rest of the day. Not recomending this place at all. If you want good breakfast, go to State Street Diner.

I cannot believe I have driven past this place a million times and never gave it a second thought! This small, family owned restaurant will meet and exceed your expectations. The staff and owner's are friendly and their service is superb and quick as well. The menu has anything you could ask of a diner. It has breakfast items served all day, lunch, dinner, sweets, steak, hot dogs, gyros, sandwiches, soups, salads, it has it all! The prices are very fair, especially since their serving sizes are quite large, which is good if you like leftovers! Overall this place will continue to get my business, so long as it stays open. Five thumbs up!

Two of our favorite things at The Verdict are the potato pancakes and the Blue Moon Smoothie. The potato pancakes are huge and full of fresh green onions and so yummy! My daughter orders the Blue Moon Smoothie every time we go to The Verdict and loves it. Made with fresh fruit.

Food is amazing I love the florentine eggs Benedict by far the best breakfast item on the menu. Serves is fast. And the red velvet cheese cake is absolutely amazing

Lots of good food at good prices! As the other reviewers pointed out, the decor makes you feel like you traveled there in a time machine. That's not going to keep me from going back! This place has one big menu. You can spend lots of time going over it. You want it, the probably serve it. There's soups and salads and sandwiches and gyros and pasta meals and fish....you get the picture. Every item comes on a large plate with plenty of food on it. The service is speedy and friendly. I went here for lunch, so I don't know what it's like at dinner, but there was a variety of people there. I saw families, tables of seniors and some guys working out a deal (probably some lawyers). The noise level was fine. This is located in a strip mall at the corner of Roosevelt (38) and County Farm Road, across from a mall with a Target, Kohls and Ultra Foods. There is some fast food nearby, but this is the only sit down place in the area.

I don't get here as often as I would like. Now that we've moved to Bartlett though, it's pretty close. As of last night, the Verdict is officially going into our the rotation. We met a couple of friends for a casual dinner and left happy and full. Success! I had the $9.99 Gyros Platter - a giant plate of gyros, onion rings (instead of fries), yummy chicken noodle soup and homemade bread with garlic butter. Normally, I think this comes with a scoop of ice cream, pudding, rice pudding or jello, but our waitress didn't say anything about it and I was so full that it didn't matter. Quite the deal if you ask me. My friend had some basted eggs, bagels, etc. - normal breakfast foods that must have been cooked right (otherwise she wouldn't have eaten them). Our kids both had chocolate chip pancakes, sausage, bacon and hot chocolate. It's a clean restaurant with a nice staff. Easy to find. Open when I'm hungry. It's a great go-to for any meal of the day! Trust me, we will be having more meals here soon.

One Yelp review for The Verdict in 2006, none in '07 or '08, now three in '09. Does that mean this place is getting hot? No. But it does deserve a few reviews, even if all of the others are 3 stars. The Verdict is a great alternative to fast food. It's a traditional Greek-owned diner. HUGE portions. Giant menu. 4-5 specials of the day each day. For a late dinner, I went for the BBQ pork chops, with soup, baked potato, vegetables, and my choice of any dessert in the display case. We brought two of my three pork chops home as leftovers, which made dinner for the two of us a few nights later. My soup was excellent, the pork chops and baked potato were delicious, and the piece of cherry pie I picked out was gigantic. (Note I said nothing about the taste of the cherry pie.) The place is large and clean, the service is great, and the prices are very reasonable. It's everything a diner should be. If you're on Roosevelt Road west of Wheaton, going to or from Central DuPage Hospital or the DuPage County Judicial Center, this is your best alternative for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or a late dinner. Just skip the cherry pie and go for one of the cakes. Or the Greek pastries.

I love the verdict! It is one of the family restaurants that is in my usual rotations for dining out . The menu so huge, sometimes it is difficult to choose what I want to eat! I would highly recommend any of their soups or salads. My usual sandwich is the chicken and avocado, served warm with melty swiss cheese. Yummy. They have delicious coffee and homemade bread and whipped garlic butter. Yummy again! My only gripe is that it is not big enough inside. The place is almost always busy, you would think they could have expanded into a bigger space by now!

Love this place and go there often. Everything is delicious and served quickly by friendly servers. You just can't go wrong with anything on the extensive menu. Try it, and it will become one of your favorites, too!

The Verdict is in, this place is AWESOME!! Went to the Verdict on a whim after visiting Cantigny Park with my family. We tend to seek out local family owned joints and this place fit the bill. So we dropped in for dinner and it was so tasty! We all opted for breakfast for dinner and it was such a good choice. The skillets were extremely tasty, but the the Pancakes, oh the glorious pancakes, they were the BEST pancakes I've ever had. A perfect mix of malted and buttermilk pancakes. The pancakes, I'm still not over them. Dinner for 3 including some insanely good pancakes, tea, and tip was 30 bucks!! The only concern I had was that service was a bit slow at times because they were so busy.

Went in the midst of a huge rain storm! Service was chaotic, but I understood. Their menu(s) are huge; I wanted breakfast food and we went at 1, so I had to ask for that. Thank goodness we got there before the power went out, I got at least one cup of coffee (really good). Our service could have been better, but what else can you do besides re fill water? We got our food pretty quick, but our waitress didn't come back at all, she was probably dealing with kitchen chaos. I got a pancake combo, and I wanted turkey sausage and two bacon strips, opposed to one sausage and two bacon strips. I ended up getting five turkey sausage links, ate two of them, asked for bacon (waitress took my WHOLE plate away to get it), then came back with bacon. The bacon was fried to a crisp; I wasn't going to complain, because I still got DOUBLE MEAT!!! YA BABY! Plus, she probably had to spit on my food for being a stickler...I would have...haha, just kidding! I got scrambled eggs, the meat, and whole wheat pancakes instead of regular. Needless to say, I've had better service here before, but this was fine. Kudos to them for running on a generator since the power went out...and OPA!

One of our favorite lunch spots, crowded but always seated immediately. I like the avocado stuffed with seafood salad. The portion is huge- a whole avocado stuffed with their delicious homemade seafood salad accompanied with cottage cheese, fruit, tomato slices, & feta cheese chunks. Included is soup (both cabbage soup & roasted pepper soup are delicious), and a loaf of warm bread. A real bargain at $9, Dinner has some wonderful Greek traditional foods, all huge portions. Haven't tried breakfast there, so can't comment on that.

I agree with the others. Traditional, Greek family diner. Good food, large portions, and a massive menu selection, including all sorts of pies and cakes, a la Baker's Square. The saganaki (flaming cheese...really... it's on fire) is a fun novelty. As the others mentioned as well, the decor is hopelessly outdated. Seems to last have been redecorated in the late 80s. And the mirrors everywhere are a bit disconcerting. There's nothing hotter than watching yourself eat as gyro tzatziki sauce runs down your chin. Neat-o! Also, everything I've had there is borderline extremely salty. It's still mighty tasty, but I find myself drinking gallons of water when I get home. Still, a great place, and I'm glad my friend introduced me to it. I'll keep going back!

A classic American/Greek diner with a wide menu and solid service. The food is good and unfancy. Try the chicken gyro pita and onion rings. Breakfast dishes are solid. It's no-frills dining that will suit everyone's taste with a lawful theme.

The verdict is a staple for county employees and lawyers during lunch time. While the food here is average and nothing special it is still a good place to go and have lunch. The service here while very friendly is a bit on the slow side which can make it hard to go here and get back to work on time. The menu does however offer many different choices so if you are going with a group everyone will most likely be able to find something you will like here. Also they are very accommodating if you have any special requests. On my last visit I ordered the burger. My first impression was how large it was and how big the portion sizes are here. My burger tasted pretty good but was a bit on the dry side but about what I expected from a typical dinner. My conclusion would be to say if you are in the area stop in but I wouldn't make any special trips to eat here.

So, a restaurant near the DuPage County Courthouse called the Verdict? Cheesy! But so am I, so I figured that I must try it. Breakfast all day long? Loving it already. Cuz, let's face it, when we're getting on I-290 at 7 a.m. in order to be in court by 8:30 a.m., this chica doesn't often have time for breakfast. When we're done late morning (sometimes early afternoon), I am still in need of some sort of eggs. Skillets? Yessir, they got 'em. Cute names too. The "Innocent" = veggies and cheese (right up my alley) and the "Guilty" = lots of meat. Very clean inside, very 80s diner feeling. Friendly and prompt service. My coffee cup was never more than half empty and there was a pitcher for water on our table. Food came out super-fast and hot. Perhaps I've gotten spoiled, but it was no Omega. However, it's very convenient, fast and gives me my "egg" fix when I'm in dire need. AND NOW FOR THE CHEESY PART... The Verdict? Not quite innocent, not quite guilty...guess that means it's a hung jury which means I have to declare a mistrial and return for another go.

I've been a patron for at least a dozen years but have been treated rudely for the final time. The food is ok - nothing extraordinary but quite filling. But to be chastised for not wanting to be seated next to the door on a cold winter day (and the restaurant was only half full) settled it for me. Goodbye, Verdict.

Nice place, very busy. Looks like a lot of locals come here for dinner. HUGE menu. I thought the chicken salad with cranberries and almonds looked good, but ended up with tuna salad. I like tuna salad, it's just not what I ordered. My husband got the julienne salad, which was huge and absolutely packed with meat and cheese. He loved it. I also had the Greek lemon chicken soup, It was the best I ever had. Nice dinner for about $20.00. Great service, convenient parking, reasonable prices and about 10 minutes from home.

The Verdict is what all Greek-owned "booth resaurants" should aspire to be. No matter what time of day, one of the two owners greets you and seats you. The lace is always busy, but the service is invariably prompt. I have eaten here for years and never had a bad meal. The prices are ridiculously low for the quality and the menu is so broad that if you can't find something that appeals to you, you must have grown up on another planet.

Great restaurant. The food is always good and the portions are big, I have had their breakfast skillets a few times and it's amazing. The menu is huge and includes every meal, you can have breakfast all day. The service is great and atmosphere in the restaurant is very nice. I have eaten here only a few times but I would recommend it to anyone who likes Greek food and big portions. Or just anyone who wants breakfast throughout the day.

I must have driven by this place about a dozen times and never tried it until today. This type of mom-and-pop Greek place is pretty ubiquitous around Wheaton and the surrounding area, but I have to say this place is probably the best I've tried so far. An extensive menu, enormous portions, and good coffee made for a great quick lunch. We got there relatively late for lunch (around 1:30) but this small place was still relatively crowded. Service was great and prices are very reasonable. We'll definitely be back.

DO NOT EAT AT THIS RESTAURANT. Unfortunately, the service at The Verdict is ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE as I had an awful experience at this restaurant this past weekend. I've never been treated so rudely before at a restaurant. They were sorely understaffed for a Sunday morning with bus boys taking orders at tables. We had made a reservation in advance and we were told that our reservation would be taken since it was Mother's Day. When my family and I arrived at the restaurant, the owner George seemed confused and perplexed when I mentioned we had a reservation to him. He sat us down, but we were there at least 15 to 20 minutes without anyone giving us any service. Only one time did a waitress check in and said she would be back. She did not return. Meanwhile, again the owner George seemed to be more concerned chatting up with friends of his at the table next to us and not bother to notice how long we had been at our table without any service given to us. My wife had to get up to get her own coffee and then she ended up serving all of us as well hoping that would spark some attention. It did not. I finally had to get up and ask the owner George why were not being given any service and he reacted belligerently to me telling me that our entire party had not arrived and this is why no one was serving us. I said to him that he and his staff couldn't even bother to serve us basic coffee or at least mention to us that no service would be given until our party (of which only 2 we were waiting on) was completely there. I had a toddler there as well and he couldn't even bother to notice that as well much less serve or ask of his needs. I told him that my wife had to get up and serve us coffee and he couldn't even have the decency to acknowledge or apologize for this. Instead he started blaming me for his lack of service. What a completely rude and arrogant man this was. He started to bark and yell at me and then I had finally had enough. I took my family and we left right away after having wasted our time and George absolutely tarnished the start of our Mother's day. I don't live in Wheaton, but I will never ever eat at this restaurant again and I will advise anyone I know not to patron this place as well. George should be ashamed of himself and I would give this place 0 stars if I could.

I just moved within walking distance to the Verdict, so naturally we wondered over for dinner one night. Both the service and food was great. Like other reviews have commented the theme is super cheesy, and decor is kinda 80's/tacky. Like most Greek diners the menu is HUGE, and the portions are also huge plus you get soup and bread with most meals. We plan to come back for breakfast soon!

I have been to this classic Greek family-owned restaurant several times now and have enjoyed the experience each time. The wait staff is very friendly and helpful. They recognized me the second time I ate there and it was quite a while after my first visit. I feel comfortable having lunch there by myself and know that I will be in and out within the 30 minute window I typically have during a work day. The coffee flows and the noise level is lower than a typical diner. The food is good and comes in large portions. The menu is quite large though, so ask the waitress to help narrow your choices if necessary. They will tell you what's good! I recommend the spinich pie or Greek skillet. Monday's soup du jour is excellent as well.

WE LOVE THE VERDICT! If you aren't in the mood to cook and you want some delicious comfort food...go here! If you have your in-laws in town and you want to eat breakfast/brunch at a good price with delicious coffee...go here! If you want to eat out and you have no idea what type of food you're in the mood for...go here! The Verdict's menu is enormous...seriously, you'll find something that sounds good and it'll be a huge portion of good quality food. Their salads are all fantastic and HUGE. Their sandwiches, melts, wraps, etc. are all very good. We'll often order 2 wraps "to go" on a weekend when my family is in town...they are HUGE and always cut in 1/2, comes with a side AND soup...we'll get one with fries and one with fruit...these 2 wraps with the sides and soup feeds 4 adults easily and costs about $15. We also love the staff...always friendly, they are nice and enjoy kids, accomodating, etc. They are also quick...we never wait on an order. I truly love this place and I'm sure you will too. Oh yeah....get the Greek-style "chicken rice egg lemon" soup... so delicious!

My friend and I came here to grab some breakfast, quite fitting after coming out of the courthouse down the street. The food was good, your usual breakfast diner fanfare. The portion size is big and I do like their pancakes. My friend got the American Justice Skillet and he liked it a lot. (Notice a theme here?) The service however is a tad slow, no frills, no "flare" and that goes for the atmosphere as well. Overall, it's just a good place to get some grub. I think we are coming back here again on October 25 when we have our next court date.
