Food is good. Tiny small space to wait in especially when it's cold out. When I was here there was a lot of screaming at each from the employees. Stuff like get over here now, you're not fast enough hurry etc. I felt very uncomfortable and out of place. We ended up taking food to go instead out sitting outside at the picnic tables.

Great little hot dog place. Lots of different specialty burgers, Hot dogs were really good Chicago style dogs & had cucumbers on them which I've never had before. Pizza was decent, sauce was a little too sweet for my liking. I will be back to try some of the specialty burgers.

Being at a college nearby, my roommate and I wanted to get some food delivered to us on a Sunday afternoon. A flier in our lobby had the menu for Jack Straw's and we decided to give the restaurant a shot. We ordered two Chicago style got dogs, a cheese thin crust pizza, and an Andre the giant burger. The total was a reasonable price for the amount of food given to us, but on the flip side it wasn't cheap. The hot dogs had all the necessary ingredients of a typical Chicago style dog. They also gave us jalapeños and sauerkraut on the side. They were appetizing but nothing too special. The pizza was larger than I had originally expected and was filling -- something that a college student always enjoys. The hamburger was juicy but the sauce was overwhelming and also attributed to the sogginess of the buns. However this is something that can be potentially avoided by eating in. Overall the food quality was decent at an acceptable price. We ordered our food and they told us that the wait would be around an hour. However n hour and 30 minutes passed before our food was finally delivered. Jack's Straw Pizza doesn't seem to be the best option for someone who is ordering for delivery, although the business does offer more variety for a restaurant that does deliver.

This place is awesome! These cheese steaks are killer! Super fast delivery too. I order here all the time and not once did I ever have an issue. Sooooooo good!

You know, I never realized that the official name of this place is Jack Straw's PIZZA! Why? Because I have always come here and ordered the 2 hot dogs & fries special. Yesterday, I broke with tradition and tried a slice. The pizza is very good. It has a doughy, pan-style crust with a flavorful, well seasoned sauce and the amount of cheese is just right. The sausage is just so-so but not that mediocre that it detracts from the overall pizza. This is a pretty darn good slice! The hot dog is a classic Chicago-style dawg with a fresh, fluffy bun gentling caressing a delicious Vienna natural casing wiener. The condiments are fresh and well applied although you get a pickle AND cucumber slices. I think next time I'll skip the cucumber. This really is a good execution of a Chicago-style Hot Dog. Service can be slow and indifferent at times although the young lady yesterday was downright cheerful and a pleasant change from the usual grim blokes that work there. Don't let that the deter you. Jack Straw's has very good food.

Terrible customer service!! Order takes three times as long they tell you then when delivered- late- food is cold! Never again.

Potential for five stars and have been eating here for five years. Great menu and good ingredients but they just can't get orders right. Thin crust pizza is best in the area but one time you may get too many onions and the next time "where are they"? Or too much tomato sauce and the next time not enough. They have the best fresh cut fries in the western burbs but they may come undercooked, overcooked, or just right. You never know. Today, I ordered a brat, mustard only, and fries. Yeh, it came with the works, mustard, pickle, relish, cucumber, and tomato. Fries were undercooked. The guy in front of me ordered a plain hamburger and got a cheese burger. Based on my experience, its a 50/50 chance they get the order and preparation right. Consistency would get them 5 stars.

absolutely awful experience. food was awful as was the service. the only person over the age of 16 was asleep on the floor behind the counter as if I (and other customers) were unable to see him..

The food was very good but also on the pricey side. Love the fresh cut fries. I would recommend the Maxwell Street Polish.

After only one visit, I've decided that Jack Straw's is a great place for carryout. Call in advance, get your stuff, and enjoy it at home. Eat there at your peril. My wife and I came here one beautiful afternoon following a visit to Wheaton's outdoor market. The building itself is very small, small enough to have no indoor seating and no public bathrooms. Teeny weeny. If you're eating there, you're eating outside, on one of the half-dozen big wooden picnic tables. And if you ordered a very sloppy sandwich, you'll be eating it for everyone in the world to watch you trying and failing to eat with dignity. Based on food alone - my wife's chicken gyros and my "Capone" cheesesteak - Jack Straw's is a solid four, pushing for a five. The cheesesteak was truly excellent, loading quality beef and cheez-whiz with peppers, onions, a few bits of carrot and cauliflower (really) and giardiniera. Great stuff. But what a mess. Barely into my first bite, the delicious mess broke through the bread-crease. Even keeping the sandwich wrapped in paper, it was a challenge to keep it together. Much of it fell on the table and all over my hands. Now, Jack Straw's must be aware that they make sloppy sandwiches, so why not offer wet naps? Without an available sink (no public bathrooms, remember), I was forced to rescue an ice cube from our drink in an attempt to clean my hands, with marginal success. Service was a little off. They didn't offer my drink to me while I waited for the food. When the food was ready, the drink machine wasn't, and when I asked them to bring the drink to me, once their machine was up and active, they seemed a bit put off by the request. And we had to open ketchup packets for the tasty but small-portion fries. And we had to deal with smokers. Not other customers, but two separate employees, getting their nicotine fix a little too close to our table. Come on, guys. If you can't smoke by the food while you're making it, what makes you think it's okay to smoke by the food while I'm eating it? This place is averaging 3.5 stars, and that's what I'd give it. (Funny how we can't give half-stars, but Yelp allows the average to be sliced that way.) But I'll put bread over circuses this time. We'll come back, but we'll call in advance and take it home. I have a sink there; perhaps I'll just eat directly over it.

Ordered from here last night for delivery. Friendly gentleman on the phone took my order and even said he would send the delivery girl with enough change because I had a large bill and wanted to pay cash. 70 minutes later I call to see where the order is. I am told it would be there in 5 minutes. 15 minutes later I call and ask again. They say it will be another 10-15 minutes. I ask to cancel the order and they say okay but put me on hold. Then they say no refunds. I ask them not to send the order. 20 minutes later the driver gets to our home and we send her away after almost 2 hours from our original order. She leaves and 40 minutes later she runs to the door, rings doorbell, and drops the cold two hour old food on our porch, and runs away. On the top of the box was a credit card statement from a card I gave them over a year ago. Crazy!! Fraud? We are looking into that. But just plain ignorant, absolutely insane!

Great pizza - best quality thin crust in Wheaton. My wife loves their green olive and mushroom and I'm a fan of their meat pizzas. Price can be a bit more than Capri or Rosati's - who also make great pizza - but Jack Straw's in worth the extra money because of their crust and ingredients. Service is hit and miss. At times you encounter caring and engaged employees who are a bit edgy - giving the place a nice vibe. At other times you encounter surly, "I don't care" employees and you leave wondering why you come back - but you usually do because three minutes of bad employees can be overcome by a great pizza. No place to sit and eat unless you are in your car or the picnic tables outside the front door.

Bland, boring and overpriced, that was our consensus. This was an "I'll buy, if you fly" experience. We paid about $9.00/meal. We decided at $3.00 per meal it would have been a good value. I had a chicken ceasar wrap + (crispy) fries and a Pepsi - no Coke. My lunch "date" had a burger + sweet poe. fries. The chicken was fried, I mean, what the heck. And veggies inside the wrap were lacking color and variety along with the breading on the chicken. The dipping cup supplied had what I guess was their ( I reference the possessive form very loosely ) dressing. The Ceasar dressing was separating and tart so it added depth to the food but not flavor. It also tasted more Italian than Ceasar. (Good, plain, straight balsamic vinegar would have been much better and closed to the taste they were going for) I have never been inside th place. I heard it was a long wait at 1:30ish on a Thursday. I would have been better satisfied at ___________. Given the location and the price I could go from a sit down at a LOCAL coffee house/restaurant, asian or fast food drive through.

Ok, so Ive never had thier pizza but their burgers are quite possibly the best Ive ever had. They are creative and sloppy. Top 3 burger for sure. If your looking for a big sloppy burger with good taste, go there. Frank Campeglia (The Food Club)

I wasn't to nice when I had to sign my charge with my finger on a cell phone but after I got over it I was rewarded. The food was great. I had one of their Philly's and my wife got their cheeseburger. Both were very good. A little pricey but I will be back again. I hadn't been there in years.

Let me start of by saying this: Jack Straw's is a Wheaton institution. This is a nice place for kids to go and spend their allowance on a burger, a hot dog, or baked piece of dough with questionable red sauce on it. For years, there has been a time-honored tradition of biking to downtown Wheaton's Jack Straw and eating junk food. However, if you're an adult, I would recommend taking a pass. This is the food equivalent of watching a "great" 80's or 90's movie with an adult's discerning eye. You might go all-in and buy The Karate Kid trilogy DVD box set on a whim, but then you're stuck owning The Karate Kid trilogy DVD box set. Some things are best left in the past.

The lunch special pricing is awesome! The picnic tables are great on a nice day. Service is not the most friendly but they get the orders right and in a timely manner so I'm ok with that. The pizza sauce is on the sweet side and the pepperoni pizza was pretty darn greasy... But was delicious. With all the amazing pizza places in the area I think place competes because of the prices and outdoor seating but not as the number one pizza. However it also provides pizza by the slice which is awesome!

  • Sam P.

Had to give Jack Straw's another shot, this time with a simple slice of cheese pizza. What a salty mess. Too bad, as it's a great location, and I love the picnic tables outside.

  • Bella S.

It's a hot dog place that's been there forever, but what I don't get is why is the staff so rude? It's rare I can get just common curtesy when I am a customer. I've gone for years because food is decent but overpriced, but I think I am done. There's other places to go.

    (3)
  • Ash A.

Delicious everything! This place is my absolute favorite, a true staple to Wheaton. The burgers are always juicy and full of flavor. The pizza by the slice is the perfect quick lunch item! The outdoor seating is very sweet! A classic hometown feel. I love spending a nice summertime lunch with friends at the picnic tables. I've been coming here for many years and it never disappoints, try it out! With all the chain restaurants out there, it's refreshing to find a restaurant that stays true to it's own unique style! And you gotta love the Grateful Dead collage in the lobby! Oh! Don't forget to get fries---my absolute favorite! Especially with that cheese sauce, mmmmmmm!

  • Jacob K.

Where is the sixth star? If you are in the area, from out of town, or wherever, this is your one stop shop for some freakin good Chicago food. Raised locally, I would never recommend another fast food joint for authentic Chi food. I highly recommend the Italian beef sandwiches, the hot dogs, man-burgers, and mafia cheesesteaks (my favorite is the Capone). Don't forget your cheese fries. For those reviews that bashed the environment and service, you just don't get it. That's part of the essence of Jack Straw's. It's part of the experience. Don't worry about the service, focus on the delicious food and having a good time with the family and friends you bring here.

Great pizza horrible help!!! My friend and I had never been here before until today and unfortunately will never be back. The pizza is good but it doesn't make up for how horrible we were treated. well there is a parking lot right in the back and apparently it's employee parking we did not notice but It was a fair mistake. We ran in to pick up our pizzas and when we came out someone had parked behind us. we were blocked in & he noticed and came out to move it just as we we're going in to say we couldn't get out. Well anyway we apologized & said honest mistake. While he scoffed and pretty much talked crap to us then finally moved his car all angry about it. Needless to say I am very disappointed especially since I spent so much. He was completely rude and disrespectful.

I feel like I ordered to wrong things because these reviews all sound promising and delicious - super thin crust better than Manhattan?! Awesome fries?! Oops. I had none of that. I was craving crap food after a weekend of unspeakable gluttony, and grubhub was winding down to where your options are like The Barrel of Dust and We Serve Roaches, Inc. The reviews on GH and Yelp for Jack Straw were decent enough so I ordered - 6 teriyaki wings, 6 BBQ wings, and a Philly cheesesteak sandwich. Hey lay off me, I was starving (in my Chris Farley voice). The food arrived promptly and smelled delicious. The wings are breaded and fried (I don't love breaded wings) and really tiny, and the sauces were in the box with my sandwich, so I thought they'd forgotten my sauce until I was done trying to eat them. The sauces were ehhhh - BBQ was great, teriyaki was like a vat o' molasses. The Philly cheesesteak was ok, but greasy and messy and not authentic at all (peppers and mushrooms?). You know what Naperville needs is a GREAT Philly cheesesteak place, now that I think about it. Every time I'm in the city I force my unfortunate and cooler-than-me friends to get Philly's Best for dinner because it is incomparably delicious, but we don't have anything remotely close here, do we? Why don't we? DONT SUBURBANITES DESERVE CHEEZ-WIZ AND JOY JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE?! Oooh ok I digress. The sandwich was whatever. In sum, I'll try them again, I think. They deliver to my house and show potential. Next time I'll get pizza like I should have this time, and I'll hopefully update my review in a positive way!

I like their pizza, and I used to love their hot dogs (the Mexicali was my favorite). While running errands today in the area, I decided to grab one. What. the hell-o. happened?!?! According to their website, the Mexicali is supposed to have hot sauce, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, and onion (jalapenos on request). My hot dog had two drops of hot sauce, no cheese, very little onion, and too much lettuce I was blessed with two large tomato wedges, which I felt that one would have sufficed. The lettuce wasn't shredded; it was big leaves that I had to pick off because it was such a hassle to eat. Upon ordering, the employee didn't ask if I wanted everything on it, so I forgot about the jalapenos, but I most certainly would have liked them on the hot dog! I paid $6.09 with tax for the dog and a small fries. The fries were decent as I remember them being, but I had a lot of over-cooked/burnt ones. Very disappointing. Sad to say, I probably won't be going back here again. It's a shame, because this place used to be a favorite of mine.

Call ahead! Waiting in that tight space blows... They provide some picnic tables outside and that's enough on nice days. Otherwise take your food elsewhere and DON'T EVEN THINK about asking to use the bathroom. They have a drive through if you call ahead (do that, I like them so much better now.. customer service and friendliness are not their strong suit) The food is really good. Sandwiches and pizza are the name of the game. I'm all about their french fries... seriously, their fries are up their with Bono's in Lisle.. yes, they are that good. They also make some freaking great cheeseburgers (other family members tell me the Philly Steak sandwiches are delicious too) I'm told that they get their meat from the Wheaton Meat Market, which is saying a lot for the quality. The burgers are juicy (greasy?) and on a big brioche like bun and I love them. There, I said it. I've tried the deep dish pizza on the carousel (it's ok) and ordered their crispy thin crust pizza (they have corn meal on the bottom) which has lead to some dissension within the house. Trevor and I really like this pizza, Lisa does not. Trevor has moved out and no longer has a vote... so..... I really love their cheeseburgers (sometimes I get a double, oh yeah... Baby!) and fries.

If you're looking for a Cuban Sandwich in the Wheaton/Glen Ellyn/Lisle neighborhood get the Tony Montana Cuban from Jack Straws! I had it last night and it was unbelievably delicious. I've lived in and around Wheaton my entire life and have only dined here a few times, but after my dinner last night I can guarantee I'll be back sooner than later and more often. I am a bit of Cuban Sandwich fanatic (the best I've had are in Florida, and I'm assuming Cuba as well) so when I saw this on the menu I had to try it. The sandwich was made PROPERLY: seasoned roast pork, ham, Swiss cheese, pickles, and regular mustard - toasted on a french roll (if you don't have Cuban bread). Jack Straws got it right on the money! The sandwich was greasy but not a waterfall like other sandwiches. I even showed up a little late to pick up my order and it was still warm and ready to go. I'm serious folks, if you want to try something different from pizza/hot dogs one night, grab the Jack Straws Cuban sandwich. It won't disappoint. Oh, I also got the Chili Cheese Fries. It was basically a mound of chili, fries, and cheese with some peppers mixed in for a little kick. Heartburn inducing, but oh so good. Add them to your order if you're feeling extra gluttonous. Now, the only reason I'm not giving this 5 stars is because of the service. It wasn't bad at all when dealing with them face to face, but unfortunately the young girl who answered the phone spoke very softly and it was difficult for me to hear her while placing my order. When I arrived to pick up the order though, they were very prompt about retrieving it for me. So.....to repeat.....try the Tony Montana Cuban Sandwich. It's buried at the bottom of the last page of the their menu, but it's definitely a treasure to discover. (See what I did there?)

The go-to place for impressive gourmet burgers. This is where I order from when I have my boyfriend's guys all coming over-- as in its a very manly burger. I myself am a sucker for burgers with an over easy egg inside, and it's hard to find places around this area who can offer that. I like to call these "heart attack burgers" in light humor because they're big, packed burgers, they never skimp out on the ingredients. I gave them four stars because I think that they are on the pricier side for burgers, I believe I paid $9 for my burger alone, without sides or drinks, but I'm not complaining! It's very much worth it, and I can barely finish the whole thing on my own as is, so you definitely get your money's worth.

I had a Texasburger and a hot dog with relish, mustard, mayo, and ketchup. How much did they charge me for it? Thirteen dollars!! Pardon me, but this is not a place of only one $. The hotdog was really good, and the burger was okay. My main complaints, aside from the price, is on the staff and establishment. There was a cacophony of weird punk/rock music blaring through the speakers while ESPN was also on and loud on TV. And the staff was nothing but teenagers which would not be an issue were it not for the fact that the girl at the register knew absolutely nothing for she always asked another employee what was in the different items that I asked about, and their service, though not ghastly, was simply not friendly. So for a first visit I was really let down and left with no intentions of returning.

Jack Straw's is Wheaton's local joint for pizza, but I had a Fat Tony, which amounts to a cheesesteak with grilled veggies, pesto sauce and mozzarella cheese. I held the Pepperoni. My wife got a slice of double-dough sausage. The dough has sort of a yeasty tinge to it, but it was all right, and it doesn't matter because I think I'd just get cheesesteaks from here to eternity. It's a little bit hot, and a lot greasy. But the meat is very well seasoned and the veggies were the perfect texture and flavor. Definitely a local business that deserves your support.

First time ordering and will take a pass on ordering from them again. Pizza was OK but nothing great. Greek salad was missing olives and dressing appeared to be just olive oil with a sprinkle of spices - no vinegar that I could taste. Service was OK and delivery time was good

They've added two more MANburgers! The Belushi and The ODB (Ol' Dirty Bastard). I tried the Belushi which had two burgers, bacon, gyros meat, and a fried egg along with a ridiculous amount of toppings. Jack Straw's you are a fine establishment. I love you.

Despite the name Jack Straw's Pizza, this eatery serves a lot more than Pizza. I am going to touch on a few different menu items here and give my review. Before delving into the food offered here I think it would be a good idea to give you a quick idea of the restaurant itself. Jack Straws is located right off of Naperville Road and Willow in Wheaton. It's a tiny little building that looks like it was once home to a photo drop off place, or a very very small bank. There is a drive up pick up window, but you can't place orders there from what I understand, it's only there for picking up orders previously called in. There's only a handful of parking spots, and you can save money on that family vacation to the grand canyon as a reasonable facsimile exists in the middle of their parking lot ( well it's more of a big dip in the parking lot due to a sewer drain). There's a few picnic tables with umbrellas that you can eat at outside of the restaurant but there is no indoor seating. Now it's time to discuss their food. Since it's called Jack Straw's Pizza, let's go over the pizza first. Jack Straws serves both pizza by the slice and full pizza's. The by the slice pizza is a pan style pizza, it has a nice crunchy crust and excellent quality meat toppings. The regular pizza's are usually thin, though they do offer a deep dish option. Their specialty pizza's are the reason to try their pizza as the unusual combinations offered are unique and offer the best tasting experience. Next off is the Hot Dogs. Going by the moniker "The Hot Dog Critic" it would be foolish if I passed over covering theirs. The first thing I took notice of is the price. A single hot dog is 3.50. That's extremely high for a regular hot dog, but they do offer a two hot dog special including a drink and fries for 7.00. Their hot dog had a soft bun, nice flavor and the condiments were applied correctly. The pickle they use is cut a bit too thick and they include cucumbers which are only occasionally included on Chicago-Style Hot Dogs. Overall this is a very solid stock Chicago-Style hot dog but the thicker than usual pickle and the price make this a "try it once and see how you like it" situation. Finally I want to cover perhaps the most intriguing item or set of items on Jack Straws Menu, the "manburgers". Jack Straw's offers a menu of uniquely topped and dressed hamburgers, these are if anything a novelty to try with some being excellent, and others being a hodge-podge of different flavors. I have been very impressed some of their manburger combinations and would recommend these to anyone in the area looking for a unique hamburger / cheeseburger experience. Overall Jack Straw's is an excellent place to find Chicago-Style eats. They are a bit higher priced than most places and they do build up a bit of a line at times which can cause longer than normal waits for your food. Overall Jack Straw' comes in as highly recommended. The primary factors leading to its being rated four stars instead of five are their higher than normal pricing and the time it takes for your food to be ready being longer than most restaurants.

Those that have been here longer than I say our office used to be very close to Jack Straws and it was a favorite of many employees. Now that we've moved to the other side of the tracks, the trek is a bit longer and JS isn't the first place that comes to mind when we think Friday group lunch. We have ordered it twice - once through another site for delivery and a then again today for pickup. First, the drive-thru for pick up rocks. Easy in and out and very convenient our drivers told me (yes, there were two - more later). We probably could have used two bags to put the food in, but somehow they managed to get $50 worth of food into 1 bag and staple it shut. It was decently warm when it arrived back at the office, a giant plus. However, when the food arrived at the office we were missing part of the order. I hear you - these things happen. But we had been reluctant to order from them again because of our previous delivery experience where multiple items were forgotten. It is this lack of attention to detail that will keep us from going back. It is a bit of a drive, considering how much time one gets for lunch, to go there the first time, but then we had to send someone back for a hot dog. Nope, not again. Just can't trust that we will receive everything we ordered. It's too bad, said one of my co-workers, because the sloppy joe was really good. :(

I can't comment on the food since I sent it back. Rude rude rude workers. I work in the restaurant business and am pretty patient. The girl who took my order just wanted me off the phone. 1 1\2 hours later my food still had not arrived so I called and the guy that answered was probably the rudest person I've ever dealt with. I guess the driver got lost. Anyway 20 min later my pizza arrived and was told the bill was 58$ I ordered a medium pepperoni. I looked in the box and the pizza was folded in half. I did not accept the food and sent it back with the driver. I will say the driver was very nice and apologetic. I never received a call wondering what the problem was. I've wanted to try this place for awhile but now I've come to the conclusion I never will.

The food is pretty good but everyone seems to hate their job. They are located next to a college full of bright kids. Not sure where the disconnect is.

Pleasant surprise that they had good sandwiches for lunch. I got the tuna melt (it came with tuna and egg) and the bread was still toasted when we had it delivered. My coworker got the chicken Caesar wrap, which seemed delicious! Would order from them again!

Manburgers! Manburgers! Manburgers! All right, now that I have your attention, and if you have the opportunity to head out to Wheaton, this little quirky spot that has been here forever will steal your heart. Nothing fancy, nothing trendy, nothing classic, but definitely fun! After picking up a class for a friend down with the flu, I needed sustenance. In years past, an Eastwood, a Stallone, or even a Belushi would have sufficed (yes, those are some of the Manburgers), but I went for another sure thing, their pizza. Some of you may be thinking, 'gee Gemma, maybe your "nic" should be Pizza Woman'. Well, okay, but I stand with the best of them. Turn-style slices can have serious drawbacks. But not here. They keep them heavily cloaked in plastic wrap so you get what you are supposed to get when you bite into them: moist, flavorful, hot slices. Jenny waited on me and did a great job. For sliced pizza, you get 2 very ample slices and a large drink for around 6 bucks. She made a point of getting a decent carry box for me. While she did, another young woman took care of my drink and one guy was cleaning. They were friendly and fast. It's been awhile for me here, I needed a refresher that they do deliver. As to the flavor of the pizza, I loved the cheese pizza (It actually has a soft pizza bread type thing going on); the sausage pizza was good, too. This place does a heavy business during the day for lunch and for commuters, and they used to have a Mafia cheese steak that was awesome, as close to Philly as you can get. And their prices are really reasonable. A nice blast from the past for me - great job.

My husband and I order from Jack Straw's for pizza a few times a year--I grew up on their pizza, and it's definitely high quality but pricier than some other local options so we don't get it too frequently. Love their double dough crust. Yesterday when reading reviews, I saw a lot of mentions of their hot dogs, which I had never tried. We've been going around the area trying to find other good Chicago Style dogs. We're partial to Portillo's (gasp!) and haven't found one that really compares, despite trying some rather famous hot dog joints in the burbs (including Gene and Jude's). Last night we decided to try Jack Straw's dogs, hoping it would be close enough because this place is right around the corner from us. The service in the restaurant was questionable--it seemed like the restaurant was being managed by a bunch of 16 year olds on a Thursday night and the service reflected that--but we eventually got our food (while watching a few customers struggle to get the attention of the employees) and were pleasantly surprised. Don't get me wrong, we still both prefer Portillo's hot dogs, but this is definitely the second runner up in our books now and we will be eating them again. We both took off the cucumbers, but otherwise the toppings were exactly what we were looking for. And the natural cut fries are great as well--we also got the cheese sauce, which appears to be made of real cheese!

Lets hear it for half price pizza mondays. The food here is really good. I must say I really like the pizza here maybe it has something to do with the fact they had it when I worked at the pool in high school but the pizza here is really good. The fries here are also great and always hot. Be careful what size you order though because a large is really large. Based on the food alone I would give this place 4 stars. The reason it gets three stars is no in door seating. While it is great to come here on a nice day, this place is out during the winter. When you can sit outside watch out for birdie doo doo on the bench because they are right under trees and man do those picknick tables get bombed. Scenery could be better unless u think that mini van driving down Naperville road is hot. All in all though this is a fun lunch spot, just wish they had some indoor seating.

Wow. I had a burger and fries today, and I must say that my burger was about as good as it gets. I ordered the single Bundy Manburger, and well, I certainly didn't need the double or triple, that's for sure. It was a hot, messy, amazing burger. The fries were a bit on the soggy side, but they were fresh cut (or appeared to be), and hot. 4.5 stars if I could.

Jack Straws offers the best Chicago style dogs (loaded) & the fresh cut fries and an order cheese on the side & I am plenty full! We have only stopped by for the hot dogs, we can't resist them. We will be back!

Very odd that this place calls itself Jack Straw's Pizza. The pizza is horrible. I ordered one for lunch, specified three times that I was ordering for delivery, and promptly got a phone call 55 minutes later. They asked me if I'd ordered for pickup or for delivery. When I reminded them, now the 4th time, that it was for delivery I was instantly assured that the pizza had just come out of the oven. I've worked at pizzerias. I know the drill. The pizza sat there for 30 minutes before they realized they'd messed up, then lied to me. Don't lie to me. I'd rather wait an extra 30 minutes for a fresh pizza than swallow crow along with my cold pie. Or offer me a discount. I ended up paying $25 for one pizza that was cold and arrived late. If not for their incredible burgers (and I do mean incredible) I would never go back. Next time, though, I'll pick it up myself.

........ ........ ooooohhh..... ...(inaudible)....... Yes! More More More!..... ...... sweet Denise Schneider for all things holy!.... You'll have to excuse my foodgasm. This is my favorite pizza joint in the country. It's a good thing there is no inside seating at this place otherwise I'd find myself in some secluded corner booth caressing a square of that greasy sausage thin crust..... ooooohhh yah baby! Get out that Mozzarella shaker and give me some more! I like my pizza as I like my Ryan Braun, thin and greasy. Yes I'm a Chicagoan but I've always been more of a NY style pizza guy. Jack Straws does their thin crust better than Manhattan does their thin crust. I love folding over a a Jack Straws pizza square and the yellow grease starts dripping down my forearm to my elbow. Jack Straws has the other typical offerings like Chicago dogs and cheese steak sandwiches, but I only ever get the pizza. Nancy's down the street can't hold a Ryan Braun jock strap up to Jack Straws. Go with the Straw. Tell them I sent you.

Excellent pizza and burgers, and I am demanding with both... Hours: Being Wheaton, most of the city goes to sleep around 7 pm. Can't compare it to a 3 a.m. joint in Chicago. Fresh food, prompt service and reasonable pricing.

I am IN LOVE with Chicago style hot dogs. I've had Pink's in LA and I've had Papaya's in New York and Chicago is a style all its own. Vienna sausages topped with cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, peppers, mustard, ketchup, and a sliced dill pickle to tie it all up, it's got this very refreshing taste to it. I hear you can get this anywhere in Chicago, but since I had my first Chicago hot dog at Jack's, this is where I'll always think of when I have it again.

I will probably get yelled at by my boyfriend for not giving this five stars. I do have to admit that I was on the fence. It has quickly become his favorite pizza place and one of mine as well. What makes this pizza is fresh ingredients and imaginative flavors. Its small and locally owned and has a DRIVE THROUGH to pick up your pizza (pretty great on a cold night). One large complaint of mine is their hours, though. They are only open until about 8 pm. I felt like when we ordered at 7 pm one night they were kind of ready to be closed and not happy to make us our pizza (which they ended up putting double cheese on it instead of the double crust that we asked for and then charging us more then they said on the phone). I have worked in the food and beverage industry enough to know not to order something 15 minutes before a place closes - but an hour before AND we said we'd come pick it up?? come on! That would normally lower this review to three stars - but their pizza is THAT good that it doesn't deserve it. Plus, the employees there seem like pretty nice people... I think their lack of caring comes from *other* causes and I'm ok with that, in fact it should be expected at a pizza place. I'm not looking for customer service there - I really don't care unless you are outright rude to me! I just care that you make good food (and please don't screw up my order again - this has only happened once out of 4 or 5 times so its cool, but I don't want it to be a trend). I wanted to mention one last thing. I know everyone raves about their thin crust pizza - but I think double dough is where it is at! I did try their thin crust though, and I have to say I was impressed - even though I'm not a thin crust pizza person. Double dough is just heavenly though - and let me just say, went perfectly with the BBQ sauce on their BBQ pizza (yum!!). I want to try this manburgers that everyone speaks of. Hopefully I'll follow up with a review of that - and maybe that will even raise this to 5 stars. If you can make darn good pizza AS WELL as a freaking great burger.....I don't care how much you screw up my order or when you close! So yes, definitely go to Jack Straws and I would suggest trying all of their different pizza crusts before finding your favorite. You might be surprised!

I really don't like to give low ratings. Especially to independently owned places. However, my rating is based on one simply problem that could have easily been avoided. I asked for for a Hamburger and the girl behind the counter said, "cheeseburger?" I replied, "No, I want a hamburger." She confirmed that I wanted a hamburger and asked what I wanted on it. I thought we were good. Guess what I found when I went to eat my food when I got home . . . a cheeseburger. (Did I mention I'm not a big fan of cheeseburgers?) Needless to say, I was disappointed. Now, I don't want to appear to be crying over "spilled milk," but I don't see how this mistake could have been made given the fact that I thought it was corrected when I ordered. Aside, from the the cheese/ham-burger matter, overall my meal was fine . . . I really enjoyed the fries. My two star rating is mostly based on the mix-up situation and a just ok meal overall. I'm sure at some point I will try Jack Straw's again, but I'm just not sure when as this experience doesn't have me rushing back there anytime soon.

One word (well, really 2)-- manburger. The bronson burger is a guilty pleasure of mine. Who can resist a gyro cheeseburger? The fries are addicting and they also have awesome hot dogs and pizza. Oh, and they are the ONLY place that will deliver to us in West Chicago. Did you hear that, Jimmy Johns and Papa Johns??? Suck it. Thats worth 5 stars on its own!! This place rocks.

Delicious! My husband and I came here this afternoon, after walking through the neighborhood and feeling a little hungry. Since it was our first time coming here, we each ordered a slice of sausage pizza & a drink.... which was only $5! A great deal in my opinion. The slices were ready in a few minutes and they tasted very fresh. Very high quality ingredients and extremely tasty. I'm sure we'll be back soon to try their Manburgers!

While I was not a fan of eating at an outdoor picnic table during the worst summer of mosquitoes ever, I really enjoyed the burger. I ordered the Belushi and it was exactly what I was looking for. Very flavorful and messy. Fries were OK. Service was as expected.

I've always been on the search for the best hot dogs and fries in Chicagoland. I have tried tons of places known for their dogs and fries, and this place takes the cake as the best! That says alot considering how picky I am when it comes to dogs made the Chicago way and fries having to be fresh cut for me to really enjoy them.

The pizza here isn't 1/2 bad. I hate their fries. They ccut them fresh, but let them fall into this old sink and it's just gross. It's ok, i'm not a huge fan.

Jack's is just around the corner from our house, so it has become our de facto place when we need a quick bite or have a taste for grease. We are fans. It's reputation as a Wheaton institution is solid. When we were preparing to move into town, there were a number of times when we told people from the area our new address. If they ever had trouble picturing the area, we'd say "just around the corner from Jack Straw's," and they'd instantly say "got it," invevitably followed by "we love Jack Straw's!" We are big fans of their burgers, fries, hot dogs chicken sandwiches and pizza. Everyone we've served it to has agreed it is good stuff. We've also used them for catering a birthday party, and the food was hot, tasty, and plentiful for the money. I particularly like the Mexicali burger; on the other hand, I recommend you think twice before getting the Diablo burger (unless your belly is made of iron), as it is both crazy hot and ruthless with your digestive tract. The downsides are their nachos (terrible), their service (charmingly aloof when you think about it later, but frustrating when you are standing in the place) , their appetizer selection (or lack thereof), and the price of their pizza (well higher than Papa John's or other chain pizza places). Overall, Jack's is a great local pizza and hot dog joint and is worth the patronage.

I changed my rating from 3 to 4 stars and back again multiples times before finally settling on 4 stars because I think the pizza is just that good. I really love it. There are some negatives - the hours aren't as extensive as they could be, the staff has been rude to me and SLOW, and I think they are on the wee bit higher side of the price range. But we keep going back because I really just love their pizza.

I stopped in here after a Dentist appt (just a follow up) as I am always looking for the perfect pizza. I am a fan of the crispy thin crust and haven't always been able to find this in the Chicago area. I was pleasantly surprised that the not only had this type of crust but, also a vegetarian option ....AND a walk in special of medium 14" pizza and two liter soda for $10.95 which is a great deal I think. I took the pizza home with only two or three slices missing. The only drawback is that this outdoor seating only or carry out.

best chicago style dogs & the fresh cut fries are killer! lov'n the drive thru pizza pick-up, enjoyed the thin crust last weekend. keep this place off 'diners, drive-ins, & dives' or the service WILL take for-ever, not just all day.

Where do I start? Fries, usually good or great. Everything else, very average. Employees? Always rude, and I have been coming here ten years, never fails. Angry teens who hate their jobs angrily greet you. Prices are higher than similar places, but I keep coming because all my kids love the place and I love the fries. If it was up to me, I would go elsewhere.

    (2)
  • Marla F.

The 3 stars are the result of 4 stars for food and 2 stars for the employees. I rated in the middle. These people don't care what you think of them. What surprises me, as I stood for about 10 minutes waiting for my order, was they "proudly" display a Yelp sticker that say's they are liked on Yelp. Do they not read the feedback on the staff? With that said, the food is very good. The fries are natural home made tasting. The meatball sandwich is wonderful, although a bit salty. Large portions. Burgers to die for. After growing up in the area I have to admit that I've never tried their pizza. (I'm an Al's fan....see my review.) Yes, this was a bank drive through and has been there for years. It's the food that keeps them in business. What makes me wonder is how through the years they are able to consistently hire surly or aloof employees. Maybe it runs in the family. All in all you get over it and enjoy the food. BTW....there is a small t.v. on a pop cooler so you can amuse yourself while you wait. Perhaps I'll start calling ahead.....and try the pizza.

  • Lisa D.

Oh, Jack Straw's. Your food is tasty but your service is like the abusive boyfriend that you always THINK is going to improve but never does. I get a snack or lunch from there once every few weeks since I can walk there from my workplace, but be warned--it is not quick like a regular fast food joint. It doesn't really matter if you call ahead, either. Or even if all you are getting is an order of small fries. Or even if you are the only person in there. No, be prepared to wait for at least 5 and up to 15 minutes for your food. The hot dogs? Delicious. The fries? Amazing! Grilled cheese? Yum. Overall, the food gets 4 stars but the service gets 1.

I was delighted to find this tiny little place close to my apartment. The idea of a drive-up pizza place seemed pretty odd to me, but once I actually tasted the pizza I forgot all about that. Being from New York and not really being a fan of deep-dish pizza (I know, sacrilege for a transplanted Chicagoan), I was thrilled to find really good thin-crust pizza. The crust was perfectly crispy with just the right amount of herbs on top to make it genuinely tasty without being overwhelming. So far pizza is the only thing I've had from here but will have to try some other stuff they have to offer as I've heard very good things about it.

Jack Straw's is a great neighborhood joint. It has all your basics: pizza, beef, hot dogs, sandwiches, ect. There is a nice drive up window if you call your order in and picnic tables outside as well. As far as the service goes, I didn't have any problems, nor did I have to wait (admittedly I was a little late picking up my order). I will probably go back seeing as it is nearby.

I used to eat here every day. Literally. The fresh-cut fries, oh I could've eaten them until I was having a heart attack. Lately, not only is there a new employee every time you are here, they are freaking out and rude, and the food is either rotten or has been sitting out. They have a pizza slice special, but the slices will sit there until they walk out the door by themselves....and the fries lately, oh my yummy fresh-cut fries have gone rancid. Rancid oil or something, even had a friend try 'me and she agreed. No mo Jack Straw's for me.

I'm always on the lookout for good pizza, and this place takes the cake (or pie?) for places in my area. I always get the thin crust, which has the crunchy, cornmeal crust that you see on south side pizza. Great sauce, plenty of cheese and they're generous with toppings. Ive samples other items off the menu and I've been very happy with my choices, but its the pizza that keeps me coming back. Word of warning...the staff can be rather rude. Ive only phoned in my orders, so I cannot speak for their staff in person, but everyone comes across as if they're too busy to give you the time of day...or they've been in business too long to really care if that personal touch is met. I've been surprised twice by a nice staff member, but overall, I know what to expect. A little hint...be ready with your order before you call and dont ask too many questions and you'll come out unscathed. Delivery if fast and my food is always hot...because of this, I dont mind the poor phone etiquette nearly as much.

Love me some serious Manburger. Admittedly, I cannot finish one on my own - and so Jack Straw's remains a perfect place to go to with my sweetheart. (If you plan to do the same, make sure you're comfortable with your date seeing your carnivorous and kind of Neanderthal side. Modesty DOES NOT stand a chance against two thick patties topped with slices of heaven). The Eastwood is my go-to menu item. It has everything you could possibly want on a burger: beef, chicken, bacon, hot sauces and some veggies. Highly recommend - especially if you like a little kick to your burgers! I refrained from giving Jack's a full 5-stars for a stupid reason: the seating. The outdoor picnic tables are an awesome place to chow down in the summer months, but when it gets colder, you're out of luck. There isn't any indoor space in which to maneuver your meal. But then again, Jack's priority is making delicious burgers the size of your head rather than fretting over matters of ambiance. Can't wait to go back!

This place is great, one of the few original Wheaton restaurants from my childhood left! No more Cock Robin (insert sad face). This place is becoming more known for their "Manburgers" than their pizza, which is great for business! I always have loved their thin crust. Let me go into a little bit of detail! Always good deals, really good fries (even though I don't eat fries anymore). I place most of the blame for my childhood obesity on them, due to always riding my bike and getting two pizza slices during middle school summers! The pizza (by the slice) is awesome. They have a lunch special with either two slices of pizza OR two hot dogs and a drink for like $5. With an adjustment for inflation, I bet it is more today. They have specials Monday-Wednesday on pizza. Really awesome sausage thin crust. I believe they use Wheaton Meat Company for their burgers and meat. I'd go with the pizza here personally, but it's been years since I've been back due to way too many of my former Falcon classmates working here! If you're in Wheaton and want a pizza, I'd choose this place other all WHEATON places. If you're in Carol Stream, Glen Ellyn, or Winfield...check my pizza list!

Excellent pizza and burgers, and I am demanding with both... Hours: Being Wheaton, most of the city goes to sleep around 7 pm. Can't compare it to a 3 a.m. joint in Chicago. Fresh food, prompt service and reasonable pricing.

Perhaps they've improved since the one time I tried them a few years ago but I didn't find anything about the food appealing. I keep contemplating going back but why torture myself?

It's ok, i'm not a huge fan.

best chicago style dogs & the fresh cut fries are killer! lov'n the drive thru pizza pick-up, enjoyed the thin crust last weekend. keep this place off 'diners, drive-ins, & dives' or the service WILL take for-ever, not just all day.

Ok, so Ive never had thier pizza but their burgers are quite possibly the best Ive ever had. They are creative and sloppy. Top 3 burger for sure. If your looking for a big sloppy burger with good taste, go there. Frank Campeglia (The Food Club)

I love you.

It's a hot dog place that's been there forever, but what I don't get is why is the staff so rude? It's rare I can get just common curtesy when I am a customer. I've gone for years because food is decent but overpriced, but I think I am done. There's other places to go.

Manburgers! Manburgers!

First experience was not great but they did a lot to try and make it better and I really appreciate that. I may try it again. I like that you can order through grub hub.
