Just took down a bowl of their Baked French Onion soup like a champ. I love the gooey melted cheese that makes me work to get to the pile of carmalized onions. It is served piping hot so don't get brave and touch the handle. Since I was on an onion streak, why not order a 14" inch pie with Sausage and even more Onions. Its not like I was on a hot date anyways. The soup pretty much knocked me out so half the pizza came home with me that in reality will be late night munchies or breakfast. Might I suggest for dessert to jump on the video gaming machines, its seem to be my after dinner ritual. Highly reccommended. Server Sarah was a doll. She was awesomely friendly and quick with the refills. Oh and FYI...order a side of Hot Wing Sauce for dipping the pizza.

I can't believe I've never reviewed Papa Passero's. I guess it's a place I used to go growing up and haven't really gone there in years. Still feels like yesterday, though. So anyway, the pizza we had this weekend was great. We asked for it to be well-done and it was nice and crispy. The only reason I'm holding off on the last star is because the sauce could be a bit more... robust, if you will. We also had the nachos - one of those OMG huge platters. Since I'm vegetarian, we had them substitute beans instead of the chili. I think similar to the pizza, the nachos were excellent and would've been perfect, except the beans could've been more flavorful. Anyway, overall it was great to be back and I look forward to being back again.

I've been eating here for at least 25 years, since I was a young-in'..... Food is good but nothing special, it was the go to place for a Cheese and Sausage pizza on Saturday night, and not much has changed. They have expanded their menu and added seating, but the food is still the same... good, but not special. They offer 3 sizes (thin, medium and thick) for their crust. It's hard to define yourself if you offer 10,000 options. Just an observation... I'd definitely say you give it a try, but don't expect to be knocked over. It's a solid go to joint if you live close.

had great pizza but staff attitude just sucks. I would never go there again. The pizza used to be so good but has went done hill. The inside of the restaurant is dirty, spend some time cleaning the restaurant

The thin crust pizza is yummy.. have had it several times on my way thru visiting a friend in the Chicago area and I look forward to enjoying those square little slices of pie. It's got a nice crispy crust and a good ratio of cheese (mozzarella and provolone?) to sauce. Sausage and green olives is the way to go, so good! I think I prefer it to the thick and heavy deep dish Chicago is famous for.. probably cause I'm a New Yorker and we like our crust thin ;) This is my friends go to pizza joint and she's a Chicago native.

This is the standard for a suburban, family style pizza place. They have a big game room for fairly cheap. They host tons of bday parties for 1 year old through 100 years old. I've never hosted a party here but knowing the venue I would say if you are not snobby this is a great and affordable place to host a celebration. Onto the food...their nachos and Mexican fare is legit if you are OK with American style Mexican food. Lots of cheese, huge portions and they will customize if for you. Their pizza is pub style so it's not NY style or Chicago deep dish style. The crust is a bit thick, the sauce is a bit sweet but too sweet. They also have some of the best broasted chicken I've had anywhere. If you are hungover and in the area than hello...come here on Sunday. Their brunch buffet is about $10 and has the broasted chicken, 2-3 pizzas, and a whole lot of other stuff to comfort you. They have quesadillas with tons or cheese and get this...deep fried bacon. Oh yeah! I love this place for what it is. I remember coming here in college and meeting old friend and noshing on good comfort food. While they may not have the healthiest food, it is honest good comfort food. The waitstaff rarely turns over and to me it feels like home. Downtown Chicago doesn't have a place that equal this if you have kiddos and want them to have a place that welcomes them and your entire family. Love it!

This is a great, casual family place that we've been to numerous times. The food is always good, the service is friendly and the atmosphere is laid back. The dining room is nice-sized and always humming, though we never have to wait very long to get a table. Expect lots of kids whenever you go, they also have an arcade game room. They have plenty of televisions to catch any of the season's professional sports and beer served by the pitcher if you like. Favorite things to eat here include the broasted chicken, any kind of pizza or pizza bread, french onion soup and the chicken Parmesan. I'm not a fan of the wings, but they seem popular there. They recently announced they will have gambling machines installed. Hopefully this won't wreck the warm atmosphere they've cultivated over the decades they've been serving the area.

I grew up going to this place . Honestly has to be 35 years going back to whenever they opened. It was the best pizza, always packed, Great memories . I just moved back here recently and took my kids and family for first time. It really hasn't changed from what I remember. Same decor , same everything. I pointed things out to my kids like places I sat, stories of my youth etc. A few things that rubbed me the wrong way. The hostess seeing that we had kids sat us right by game room . We asked to move . The pizza is not 1980's Passero's. It was ....ok but not what I remember. Service was good. Beer was warm . Lastly ...signs everywhere for video gaming . On the walls, tables , door , etc. Sadly no longer a family place . Not many kids . Big emphasize on gambling . Reminded me of a going to racetrack in Cicero . Kids wanted to ask more about gambling machines than my stories. Sorry Papas we won't be back . Shame

We had our engagement party/shower here on August 23, and I gotta say it was the perfect place for it! Our hosts acquired the back room ("Papa's Hideout") for our event, and even though the patio outside is open to the public, no one outside of our party ventured in. The room size was just right for the amount of guests we had, but they have other rooms available for smaller parties as well. For a three hours, we received unlimited pizzas (quite a few varieties) and salads. Our hosts also paid for three hours of unlimited alcoholic beverages (four different beers and two wines). Water and pop were also provided, of course. Unfortunately, being the guest of honor I wasn't able to acquire pictures of my experience here. I will say that the pizza was absolutely delicious, but the crust was a little different than I'm used to. I think M ate an entire pizza by himself, but no surprise there. The salad and the three different dressings that came with it were great as well. I didn't get to see much of the rest of the restaurant, except a couple of times to use the restroom, but it is spacious. I really like the overall atmosphere, and I hope to return to try some of their other menu items. There's really not a bad thing to say about this place, as far as having a party here is concerned. The staff was professional and courteous. The pitchers of beer and bottles of wine were constantly filled or replaced, as were the pizzas and salads. If you're thinking of hosting a party or other special event, I highly recommend Papa Passero's.

First time i went we got pizza to go. It wasnt the best pizza ever (sauce was too sweet for me) but the staff was great as we waited. My friend liked the pizza though but I would not get it again for myself. I like savory, not sweet. Wasnt terrible though, just my preference. I will try their other food too though.

This place is located on South Cass avenue, and very popular for its lunch and dinner buffet. A perfect place for adults as well as for kids. Ambiance is very nice and classy, good decor with separate bar. We tried Calamari and Papa's Pizza. This was a short visit so I was not able to grab most of the things from menu. I will definitely visit this place soon. This place is must try.

I've been here a couple of times. This is Family Joynt. Sporty bar. It has old and dark decor but I like their food. Good calamari, tentacles and lightly breaded yummy. Cooked perfectly not rubbery at all. I would come here for the pizza thin crust is the way to go! We got the Loaded pizza, mushroom sausage pepperoni onions green peppers. Pizza came out pipping hot! Gooey cheese and full of flavor from the meats to the other toppings. I was surprise that it was still warm even when we were done and asked for a to go box! They had a buffet dinner but we didn't like what we saw. They have different rooms that you can rent for parties. They need to change up the decor, it looks old and outdated. They have a lot of flat screen TVs around the main dinning/bar area to watch your favorite Chicago sport teams. If you're in the area and want good quality pizza and you don't care much on how the place looks, come here and dine in or take out. I'd go back here again.

Awesome ZaZa (Pizza for the layman)! I truly enjoy this fine establishment. It takes me back to the old grade school days. A lot of screens to watch sports and great service, appetizers and thin crust pizza. They do have a good lunch buffet also. I look forward to going back!

My husband and myself ate lunch here on a Tuesday, during their buffet. The service was good. Wait staff was very pleasant, but the food was lacking. I tasted the lettuce salad with the cole slaw and I will say the cole slaw the best I've had in a long time. The French onion soup was way too salty but the potato soup was tasty. Their pizza was cold and the prepared sandwiches had WAY too much chipotle in it. Some of the items had obviously been lying in the pan either too long or too hot, but they were not visually appealing. The bill was $24 and some change + tip for 2 drinks and 2 buffets. I don't think we will be returning to the buffet.

This restaurant was a childhood staple for myself growing up in the Western suburbs of Chicago. Every birthday party, baseball banquet and family get togethers were held here. The last time I was at Papa Passeros was...1998....until TODAY. The smell immediately hits you as you enter the outdoor hallway before you even get into the restaurant. Its the smell pizza sauce and years upon years of a mild cigarette smell (not in a bad way) which is actually very comforting. Once you open the door to the restaurant you're in for a treat. The interior is EXACTLY what a true pizza parlor should be. Dim lighting, neon bar lights, exposed brick walls, gold hand railings, and a layout based on multipe pocket rooms with one main dining area. The first thing you will see is the bar ahead which is a good size without being the focus of the establishment. They have party rooms off to the sides which can hold up to 20 people and the main dining area has plenty of seating. The actual size of the restaurant is huge considering all of the side rooms they have. They have plenty of Chicago sports memorabilia to satisfy the eye. Oh and did I mention they have an arcade room. I'm not talking about 1 Pac Man table machine in the corner with an out of order sign on it half the time. I'm talking about a full blown arcade, tokens and all. This part of the restaurant is really the bonus for the kids which is why they have so many birthday parties. The food: The Pizza is awesome. I almost always focus on toppings but it's the sauce that makes their pizza. The sauce is zesty and bold. The load on the cheese so it's extra thick. Get just the pepperoni and you will be satisfied. Also the medium pan or they call it the "usual" is the way to go. Another key to having a solid pizza parlor is the cups you get your drink in. You know what I'm talking about...those red or blue plastic cups..and yes they have those. Also the place is an RC sponsored soda place which screams oringinal Chicago tradition. I for one got a beer and their craft beer selection is decent. They have about 8 different drafts with about 4 of those being truly craft. They also have some really solid specials on a huge sports style chalk board hanging next to the bar. Overall this place is a Chicago institution. No it's no THE best pizza in Chicago. That's not the point. However, the establishment itself might be my favorite in all of Chicago based on everything I said above. If I lived closer to Papa's I would be there every weekend. It's dim, warm, everyone is friendly and the pizza is awesome. I'm already planning my next trip back.
