Wow. We've been looking for a place like this for a very long time. Happened upon the other location in North Chicago but it wasn't on Yelp. So we went to the Waukegan location. We ordered the big f'ing gyro. It was probably close to a pound of meat. It was incredible. Next time I would probably asked to get it unassembled and order an extra PITA to have another meal later. we took our food home to eat and wish we probably would have eaten there because the fries would have been nice and crispy. The inside of the restaurant is very cute, diner like and was spotless. If you're looking for an awesome gyro then this is the place go.

My buds and I dropped by after a morning of fishing on the lake. I had George's Fries and the original gyro. The woman taking my order had a hard time understanding me. That's the reason for only 4 stars. The food was great. I've eaten a gyro or 2 in my day, most here in the states, and a lot when I was in Corfu Greece back in the 90's. Let me tell you, this is THE BEST gyro I have had since I was in Greece. The meat was moist and flavorful, The tzatziki spot on. The only difference between this and the ones from Greece was that in Corfu they cram a couple of fries inside the gyro. The fries were the BOMB! cheese, tzatziki, jalapenos, meat....WOW! And the unsweetened iced tea is absolutely great. And I really like the digital menu, you know what you're getting, the pictures do not lie. Like I said, I'd give this 5 stars if it weren't for the order taker looking at me like I was speaking a foreign language. I'll be back for sure.

I was so craving a nice big juicy gyro and thought I would try this place. I could forgive the 10-15 minute wait, and I could forgive the backasswards drive through. The problem is that I got the meat but no pita bread. I requested extra sauce and only got the one. The fries were fair at best. I called when I got home and he was nice and apologetic but didn't offer me another meal, just said I could come and get my pita bread. The meat was pretty good, but nothing without enough sauce and pita bread. Sorry, Georgie, I'm not coming back after that. Edit: changed 2 stars to 4 because I did return after a while and got the original gyro sandwich. I don't know if it was because I mentioned the no pita bread incident or just lucky, but I got a delicious gyro overloaded with tasty meat and extra sauce in warm soft pita bread. It was yummy. I will be back!

Sometimes racism is hard to detect with the naked eye, but you can always feel it when you are aware of it. Let me start by saying that I am Hispanic and a kindergarten teacher. I came in for lunch around 11:15am after a meeting, and they were not too busy. Someone who may have been the owner or manager was sitting with someone else discussing business. I noticed that this guy greeted every white person that came in, and he thanked them as they walked out. Pretty loudly, "Thank you, sir!" I was in there for half an hour. No friendly greeting. I thought, maybe he'll just say thank you as. I walk out. I noticed he didn't greet a couple with brown complexion. Figured it was just coincidence. Maybe he's busy. But again he thanked a white patron as he took his to go food. He was there maybe 8 minutes. I get up to leave. I clear my tray, make my way to the door, pause as I wait for people to walk by. And I walk out. No thank you, no have a good day. I just felt uncomfortable after I realized that all the white males were being acknowledged. Maybe it was because they were older. Still, it was something that didn't feel welcoming to me. The food wasn't so hot either. Literally. I waited 8-10 minutes, and I thought wow it must be made fresh! Nope. My fries were cold to warm at best. My meat was warm and dry in some parts. The bread was soft and the amount of food was good for the price. But this place was more expensive and lesser quality than you could find in Chicago. I think I'll skip this place next time.

This is one of the few restaurants around that is extremely clean, has great customer service and really good food. The jumbo burger here is amazing!

I just got a standard gyro and fries. For not being into gyros I gotta admit, it actually wasnt that bad. I would definitely come back here sometime!

Best gyro in town, but not limited to just meat carved from a spit. From burgers, dogs, fresh cut fries to the cod dinners, specialty gyros, and philly cheese steaks. Everything is great here and the portions are impressive. Newly remodeled. Brewskis are available if you savor one. The staff is super friendly too. Don't miss George's.

The chicken gyro is off the chain!!! The chicken is flavorful and it's HUGE. It was worth the trip while visiting Chicago.

Drove by on lunch from work and on my way back decided to go thru drive thru to get lunch. Waited about 5-7min which i wasnt in any hurry so i did not mind. And let me tell you the wait was worth it. This is the best gyro in Lake County, i have had a lot of crappy gyros and i will be coming here more often for my gyro fix. they are HUUUUGE and just when you think you made a dent you put it down it opens up and holy molly theres lot of meat. (see picture) Fries are great, salty and skinny. Perfect for cheese fries, which i did not get and now im kicking myself for. But all in all this will be a frequent lunch destination for myself and my coworkers and even dinner :)

I'm actually here at George's gyros right now trying to order the Italian combo which comes with mozzarella marinara and sweet and hot peppers!!it sounded real good except the marinara sauce which I didn't want !! She told me I have to get the marinara sauce on there that's the reason why Its called an Italian combo!! I told her I don't want the marinara sauce I want everything else but that !!she insisted that I couldn't get it that way now I had to buy a regular gyro and put everything else on it that way!! Which is actually an upcharge from the original price of the combo !I went ahead and ordered it because I was hungry and it was cold outside and I didn't want to stop anywhere else !! So she was basically telling me I couldn't get in my way I had to get it there way or no way !! Sad to say their food is good but the customer service sucks customers get what they want esp with food allergies to certain things that they can I eat so if a customer asked you to change a small thing on the menu because of whatever reason that should not be a problem!!

Delicious burgers and gyros..home made fries are great..large portions

I got a traditional gyro sandwich meal. It was served quickly and was pretty standard. Not to die for, but just as good as others nearby. The fries were really fresh.

So, I've been wanting to try this place for a long time because every time I visit Waukegan my friend raves about it. So happy I finally got to try it tonight. The inside is nothing special but it is clean, well-lit, and with a rather cheerful vibe. The people behind the counter were friendly, patient, and helpful. The gyros themselves are totally amazing, some of the best I've ever had. The portions are huge and the sauce is delicious. The onions that come on top are fresh. I also tried the cheese curds and the french fries. While these are more in 4 star territory than 5 star territory, they were also very good and the fries are crispy like I like them. Overall I'd really give this place 4.5 stars but am happy to bump up to 5 for the pleasant and fast service. If you're in a hurry they also have a drive-through. I'll definitely be coming back when I'm next in Waukegan!

I first tried this place thanks to their deal they posted on groupon. I ordered over the phone and when I went to pick up the order the owner spoke had a conversation with us, was extremely nice and even asked us for feedback on the food. We had the gyros meal which came with fries and a drink. The fries were very good, and we were given a large amount. The gyro is HUGE and really good, and comes with a lot of meat. The soda was an extra large. You could even split the gyro meal with two people because it was so much. I live in waukegan and without groupon I would not have known this place existed. I will definitely visit again, due to the excellent customer service and most of all the delicious food.

Food was ok. Service is ok but we were the only ones in the place. I couldn't get a get glass of water. I am not sure I would go back unless I was starving to death and I had no choice.

The problem with Gyro places is that you never know what you are going to get unless you've been there before. They are either really good or downright terrible. This is one of the good ones. In fact, it's probably one of the best in the area (since Zabes closed). Besides the Gyros, you will not be disappointed no matter what you get here. They have a good burger, delicious italian beefs, and a perfect Chicago dog. If you are in the area and are looking for the usual Chicago fare done well, stop here and you won't be disappointed. Oh yea.. they also serve beer, which is a rarity for the usual hole-in-the-wall Gyro place. Seriously, you can sit inside on one of their dozen-or-so tables, eat a great Gyro, and slop it down with a cold brewski. The only thing that could be better is the overall atmosphere. It's a little cold and cramped. The parking lot is dinky (although there is always a spot), and the drive through window is on the passenger side (don't worry, you can reach). This really isn't a fault of the owner or staff, the building is a renovated Taco Bell that was in this location for approximately 300 years. Who cares though.. the food is great, the folks working there are awesome, and even the other customers in the place are friendly.
