Pizza
Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Meatball provolone is simply amazing, simple but so well put together I will crave this one again and again! Have been to other jj twigs; this one is very nice and comfortable inside and service was adequate since we walked in very close to closing... We will be back for Thursday special and others!

Great family place. I love their pepperoni pizza. The decorations according to the holiday are super cute. Very friendly. Sometimes if busy you might need to wait as you would at any other restaurant, but not un reasonably. This is a family owned restaurant and you can see the owners and their kids working at the restaurant. They are always friendly and helpful. We should support our local family owned restaurants.

We used to go there a lot more but for some reason it's just OK to us these days. Not sure what happened. We went on St. Pat's night and there was hardly anyone there. It was decorated really cute. We had a really good pizza that night and the service was good, so we will come again!

Still my favorite pizza place in Wauconda! Two thumbs up! Their pizza is piping hot no matter whether it's in dining in or delivery! Great food , great prices, sand volleyball , great atmosphere!!
(5)Corey M.
Best thin crust pizza around, this place is great in the summer, go over have a pitcher and some pizza and get out and play some volleyball! Great service and the outdoor bar in the summer is clutch. Anyone looking for a fun weekend day, I would recommend.

First time ordering and they got it totally wrong onions that were not ordered a pizza with cheese" under cook when asked to be well done patty melt no onions on it because they put them all on the pizza would not recommend this restaurant

Good service and good food. Kids were happy. Read old complaints about peanuts before we went here and they have now put buckets out. Floors looked clean to me.

I've been having Twiggs since my youth when they had the original location that burned down on Old Rand. I have loved their pizza for years, but I think that love affair has come to an end. Our last pizza was undercooked, and the apps were cooked until the insides came out. It just seems in recent years the quality and taste has gone down. We didn't have any of the corn meal on our pizza this last time and the flavor just isn't there. I'll miss their old pizza, and don't know where we will order from when I visit my parent's house. Once again they have no Lake Zurich location, and it is not worth the drive to Wauconda for improperly cooked pizza.

I really enjoy their pizza and Popper's. I personally dont enjoy eating at the actual restaurant. Im not a fan of eating in dark places, the booths are very hard not comfortable at all, and i really dont like that people are allowed to throw their peanut shells on the floor. To me its dirty, So I just order out because they really have good food. Wauconda Jj Twigs is one of my favorite pizza places in Wauconda. A little pricey though. Also be prepared, delivery really does take bout an hour before you get you're food.

Decent food and drinks, but really nothing special.

I usually order pizza to go at Twiggs, but one evening last week we decided to eat there. The pizza was great as usual, but the service was fantastic. Our waitress, Jordan, was very pleasant and very attentive. We never had to wonder if she was coming back. Great place to eat and you get peanuts too.

Yummy, YUMMY! Sure, bar food is a slam dunk, how can you go wrong?? Well, you can, but not at JJ Twigs! Loaded nachos feature fresh, crispy chips that are really loaded with toppings-helping this dish feed many as a snack. Pizzas are consistent, not Italian, but more American style, with small bits of sausage and a moderate amount of grated skim mozzarella. Crinkle cut fries are cooked crispy, fresh and delish. Service for dining in and take away are equally friendly and speedy.
(4)Melissa R.
We headed to JJ Twigs for a group dinner and what a disaster! We waited over an hour for our food - pizzas, chili, taco salad, nachos, and some kids meals. We had a large party, but besides us, the place was pretty empty. There was no reason why our food could not come out in a reasonable amount of time. At one point someone in our group asked for water and was told "it will be awhile". When we asked about our food the server had a terrible attitude about it and made us feel like we inconvenienced her by ordering food. Drink refills were nonexistent and our food arrived in waves so some of our party got food while others waits. Meanwhile tables around us were served. Our complaints and inquiries were met with shoulder shrugs and indifference. The pizza was pretty tasty but the service left such a sour taste in our mouths I doubt we will be back.

We went to JJ Twig's last year with a large group and the service was horrible. We had to ask for refills over and over before we could get one. The pizzas took a long time (we think they forgot to put in our order even though we kept asking how much longer it would be) and one of our guests never got the sandwich she ordered, even though we asked the server about it several times. When we complained to the manager, he apologized and gave the guest who never got her sandwich a gift certificate for later. (And no, she never got her sandwich. She finally told them to cancel the order). We decided to give it another try on Sunday because we needed a pizza place that was conveniently located for everyone. We called on Tuesday to make a reservation for Sunday for 21 people. They called us back to confirm it that same night. However I think they forgot about it because when we showed up they seemed surprised and it wasn't set up. We had to wait a little while, which was no big deal since we were the first to arrive. Once everyone arrived and got settled, getting drinks and/or refills was nearly impossible. People just started going to the bar and getting their own. That's how bad it was. We quickly found out that the waitress was the ONLY WAITRESS there that night. The poor girl was running all over the place waiting on tables for the entire restaurant! I felt bad for her and we tipped her appropriately even though the service sucked, but we will not going back to JJ Twigs again. They obviously don't care about providing good service to their customers.

A few years ago while house hunting we stopped in after a walk through. We had an excellent waitress and excellent food. This evening we decided to go again looking for something/somewhere we haven't been in a while. Our waitress was AWFUL!!!! I have been in the service industry since I started working and rarely complain about the service if the place is busy. But when you see everyone around you getting drinks while yours is empty is a bit discouraging. All of this would have been overlooked when our pizza came....but the bottom was burnt and it was less than average. Not once did she ask how are food was and the appetizer we asked for marinara instead of ranch...it came with ranch. We will never ever go back. Clearly the owner/managers do not care about their reputation because the staff was in no hurry to take care of customers.
(1)Ryan C.
Great pizza, ranch and chicken wraps. Sit down service is the worst in the area. You can wait up wards of 20 mins for a beer/drinks after ordering. Best time to go is buffet hours so you don't have to deal with the slow service.
(3)Melissa K.
Thin crust pizza is always good! They have a cheese pizza special on Mondays for like half price! The appetizers and sandwiches are so so we've been in the area for a while and feel like it "used to be better" I think at some point ownership or management changed hands and this place went downhill as far as regular food goes but the pizza is great best delivery pizza in the area
(4)Jason B.
The food is the worst bar food you can imagine; if you want to have cheap and either under cooked or burnt bar appetizer type good you are in the right place. Pizza is only thing worth ordering.
(2)Courtney F.
Just moved to the area from Chicago so my standards for pizza are pretty high. I ordered a cheese, veggie and a appetizer BLT pizza (which was my favorite). Overall their thin crust was very good. I most certainly will be back. I also noticed that they serve Root beer Beer which looks intriguing (never saw that in Chicago's numerous to cool for school bars). Lastly, they have a mini van/ bus that will drive you home (within a 5 miles radius) which is well, just cool.
(4)Katy S.
I've gotten food to go here several times. I never have a complaint with the food, it is consistent and consistently good. I usually don't say no to a good pizza, but the other items on the menu are really good as well. My only gripe would be calling in. I understand getting busy, and putting people on hold, but sometimes the hold times are unacceptably long. Once I called five times, was on hold for a total of about half an hour, and still never got a chance to order. Busy is busy, but it's not good for a business to leave someone waiting on the phone for ten minutes until it hangs up for you.
(4)Brian B.
I used to go here a lot for lunch but over the years, the food seems to have become tired with a stale set of options. They have a pizza lunch buffet for about $7 which is cheap eating I guess but the selection and freshness was uninspiring. I no longer think of this joint as a pizza place but just a bar to get sowsed at.
(3)Louise K.
I went here and had the BBQ Chicken Pizza that was advertised as one of the many new weekly pizza specials Twiggs is now having. It was so good and tasted even better with a Blue Moon Beer. The atmosphere was fun and my kids enjoyed cracking open and eating the free baskets of shelled peanuts Twiggs offers. Our server was friendly and attentive. I will definetly order this again.
(5)Peter H.
Really good pizza, cold beer, and kids love it. Small place with good service too.
(4)Sara M.
My family and I have been to JJ Twig's several times. The pizza is very good - especially the one with Italian beef and giardiniera - my favorite pizza EVER. The appetizers and such, yes, are bar food...but I don't know that you should expect otherwise from a place with "pub" in its name. And personally, I enjoy bar food every now and again. JJ Twig's is a fun place in the summer. They have a low-key volleyball league and outdoor seating. They also have a shuttle bus if you plan on having a few. Great place, we'll definitely continue to come back!
(5)Gina W.
First time and last time!!!!!! We ordered the double decker twig special and what we got was a THIN crust, cold pizza with no sausage on it like the twig special is suppose to have. Manager said we would get 50% off next time. I didn't think this was a great deal based on the fact it was cold and not what we ordered. I said there was a significant price difference between a thin and double decker. He tried to tell me it was only a $2.00 difference, when based on the menu prices on their web page it is over $5.00 difference for a large thin vs. double decker. And like I said, only veggies on it they forgot the sausage too. Customer service should be much better than this, trust me Lake county is lacking in the quality pizza places but you can still do better elsewhere!!
(1)Jill M.
Fun atmosphere and great pizza. Great for kids if you get there before the bar crowd and they deliver, which is rare in these parts!
(4)Nick C.
We ordered takeout here - a JJ Twig's Special Pizza (sausage, onion, mushroom, green pepper) plus pepperoni and bacon. When we got home, we found out our pizza ONLY had pepperoni and bacon on it (and none of the other toppings). We were pretty hungry so we decided to start eating the pizza. We called JJ Twig's and they said since we had already started eating the pizza, they really couldn't do anything for us. DISHONEST BUSINESS PRACTICE ALERT: they also refused to give us a credit for the price difference (since a pepperoni + bacon pizza is cheaper than a works + pepperoni + bacon pizza). We would have been wiling to bring in the uneaten portion as evidence of the mishap. A fair ~$5 credit would have saved a horrible review from appearing on yelp and saved a future customer. We will never, ever go back.

This place sucks! Stay away!!! We sat down and the table was dirty, no one bothered to clean it, so we did it ourself. Waitress was slow. We ordered our food (it should have taken no more than 10 minutes to make) well, 45 minutes later and still no food. We were fed up and got up and left. One more thing, the peanuts they gave us were not only stale, I also saw a bug crawling on them. HORRIBLE!!!

Used to be great but has gone downhill. Something happened when it6 sold. It was a great place with really great specials all the time and the best pizza. Then the new owners changed everything the past few years. Dumped all the old experienced help and hired friends and family who are pretty useless and rude. The pizza is never the same, the crust can vary each time. The thin crispy is maybe crispy one time and floppy the next. The bartenders are a joke now. Inexperienced, and not good with deep conversation. manager is the owners nephew or son, so that is pretty obvious why he is not friendly or attentive, same with the head cook. All the best specials are long gone and no one really goes there anymore, its a graveyard on Saturdays and through the week. Prices soared sky high for what is no better food than any other local place. However the level of service does not rise at all with the prices. They seem to change the menu every few weeks, which gets confusing. The noise level is atrocious as they tend the crank the speakers to painful levels during the jukebox playing, and even if it is only 2-4 people there which is often..it gets too loud to talk. Service, again is poor and selective. They truly need to boot who they have and hire better people who are more mature and experienced again. I would shy away from the place until the food consistency and service vastly improve.

June 23, 2010 This review is on the pizza only... I've never had anything else here. I'm an old fan of Bill's pizza in Mundelein, but they have gone way downhill and tastes very bland. However, JJ Twigs still has the really great thin crust, sauce that tastes like fresh tomatoes, great tasting Mozzarella, and perfectly seasoned sausage! Thanks, JJ's for keeping the tradition! I'll be back for more! Service was very friendly and attentive. Maybe it's a bit expensive, but your taste buds will thank you!

Best pizza I have ever had in my LIFE! That is all. Seriously, I am from NY and this place has changed my mind about what is good pizza! We CRAVE this pizza and go at least three times a month to get our fix. Favorite: sausage and garlic. ENJOY! (oh, and they have great beer selection and the bartenders rock)
(5)Brian M.
The Mexican pizza is awesome! The peanuts on the floor add to the ambience.
(5)Domingo K.
Watched the vikings game here the other day Bloody Marys were pretty good - though could use more horseradish Fried cheese was good too - the rest was kinda meh ... I for one am not into the whole throw peanut shells on the floor thing... They burnt the corn dog they brought my friends kid and forgot to bring the tator tots she ordered. My cod was nothing special Wont be back
(2)Jennifer G.
JJ Twigs is a casual pizza joint where you throw your peanut shells on the floor. The pizza is really good. The thin crust we had was cooked perfectly - crispy but not overdone and perfectly thin. The cheese and toppings were fresh and it was a really good pizza. I'm a fan of tasty sauces and for me the sauce was a little bland. But, overally, a really good pizza.
(4)April H.
As far as their pizza goes....Ketchup on a cracker, just like the Lake Zurch Twigs. Everything in this restaurant, besides the pizza, is deep fried. If it's grease you're looking for, this place is it. It's really nothing special. Bar food.

Horrific owner Liz is rude and unreasonable. This woman needs to see a doctor. I had to edit my favorable original review after tonight's encounter. Their other Yelp account contains many more reviews with a similar experience. We ordered from here 2-3 times a week. We loved this place despite the 50/50 chance our order would be messed up. Pretty frequently they deliver it wrong. Last Sunday we ordered and again the order came wrong. This time we decided it wasn't okay and called to explain what happened. There was no manager available to come to the phone to resolve the issue but we were told the manager would call back that day. We explained what happened to the girl who answered the phone so she could tell the manager. We never received a call back. We called tonight and the same girl that answered the phone last Sunday answered again. We first asked to talk to the manager to discuss Sunday's issue but again the manager was unavailable. The girl remembered the incident and said the order will be comped tonight because of the wrong order last time and lack of service from management. Also that the manager would call right back this time to discuss last week. Great, that's perfect. The delivery guy arrived and asked for payment! He said the bill had a $5 credit applied. Apparently, after sending the wrong order last time without making it right, failure to call back to discuss it last week, and again failure to call tonight it warranted a measly $5 off according to the owner/manager named Liz. Not only did Liz feel $5 is fair, she didn't feel she needed to call to discuss what happened OR to notify us of a balance on the order. Wow. Anyway, we called back while the driver was here because we had no cash to pay him since we normally pay by debit card over the phone. Of course, the manager is not available. The driver decided to just leave we were waiting so long for a callback. She finally calls back and my fiancé explains everything that's happened. She didn't really listen. Her response was "she was not supposed to say that" in regards to the girl who said they'd be crediting our account. Well maybe if you were actually available to speak it wouldn't have been an issue. There was no "I'm sorry." or anything of the like. The owner/manager Liz continued to argue about the incident without any concern for our experience rather she just kept justifying a $5 credit etc.. Listen $5 would have been fine but that's not what we were told. Now you're throwing the nice girl who tried to help resolve the issue under the bus. It was impossible to explain anything to her and she was wild and unreasonable. There was complete neglect to ask what happened on her part. All the while we tried to explain she blabbed on uncontrollably constantly interrupting clearly not understanding because she's not listening. This is when I asked for her name and she said Liz. So I asked if she's the owner. She said yes. Pretty sad we eat there enough to recognize her name as the owners yet she has no clue about who her regular's are. She should at least be concerned that any customer had a poor experience. Anyway, I asked why as the owner is she not trying to make this right? I explained we are frequent customers and asked if she really wanted to lose our business multiple times a week over her poor service and $14. I also asked if was common practice for customers to be expected to eat what they are given not what they ordered. I mean, this isn't mom's kitchen I'm paying you to order from the menu and expect to receive precisely what I ordered. That is how a restaurant typically works. She yelled at me and said I was being " mean " to her. My god are you serious? What does she expect? When you treat your regular customers poorly and serve the wrong order people will be upset. She then screams that she doesn't care if she loses our business or if we ever come back and hangs up. I'm deeply saddened that the OWNER LIZ can't resolve a simple issue. Mistakes happen. But, be accountable and responsive. Apologize and offer equal compensation to cover the mistake. It's not that hard. Based on the numerous other reviews referencing similar issues I guess this is not uncommon. I loved ordering from JJ Twig but I guess the expectation of good customer service is too much for LIZ THE OWNER to handle. Thank you Liz for making it clear that our 4 years of supporting your business were worthless. You're clearly a very bad business owner that doesn't care about customer retention. Returning the first call to discuss would have resolved the issue and prevented you from this embarrassing incident and leaving loyal customers no choice but to never return. Many attempts were made on our part to resolve this directly with you. All of which you chose to ignore rather than evaluating what went wrong and working to correct the issue. Such a shame.
