Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

By far my favorite mexican restaurant in Wauconda. The only complaint I have is that it is no longer there :( Not sure how long ago they closed, but I surely do miss them.

Was out running around far from home and stumbled across this place. Walk in and it looks like a dozen other mexican restaurants. Far from it! The menu is extensive and covers everything from tacos to seafood. Mexican music playing on the jukebox and mexican coke is just the start. The chips and salsa start things off and the have great flavor! The enchiladas oaxaquenas are DELICIOUS. I will go out of my way to stop by again next time I am anywhere near this place.

I lie somewhere between 3 and 4 stars with this place, but overall it seems good. Got take out here on a weeknight, the wait was a bit but not to the point it was excessive. I tried the seafood soup and sadly it was just ok, perhaps I can give it a good but that's it. The broth really had little personality, not having the richness and depth of a great seafood soup. There was a good amount of seafood, mainly octopus, squid and mussels, with a clam, crab leg, fish tail and some faux crab for good measure. The steak burrito on the other hand was much better, I would say it was very good. The standout for the night was the pork tacos, among the best I've had. The pork had a nice amount of spice, but not too hot, it was moist and delicious. I would definitely stop here again, but would try another seafood dish hoping for something better. Still, you could do much worse than this place. An additional selling point might be that there was a sign for karaoke there on the weekends, up to you.

Let me start by saying that this place can be a little confusing to find. The sign on the south side of Rt. 176 is apparent enough but the restaurant is not in the front, which has a sign that says "For Rent", but is actually on the side in the middle of the building. Fairly confusing so keep this in mind. I haven't written a review in a while partially because of Yelp's policy of "filtering" which I find incorrectly done. Some of my reviews have been "filtered" and I know no one connected to any restaurant I write about. So Yelp is not doing a proper job. Now let me state that this restaurant is without a doubt one of the best in the McHenry/Lake County area. A clean and average looking place with table salsas that were fresh and fabulous. A red flavorful one and a green salsa that was served warm, both with a little spice and thin warm chips. They actually brought a small bowl with cut limes to cool the heat. I also ordered guacamole which I say is, without a doubt, the best around and the best I ever had. I love Mexican food and this place quickly moved up my list of favorites. I then received my order of enchiladas with the traditional rice and beans. The rice was moist and delicious and the frijoles were equally tasty. The enchiladas were very appetizing with a homemade ranchero sauce and the picadillo filling wasn't just ground beef but a flavorful blend of spices and potatoes which you find when a chef cares about the details. There is absolutely no doubt that I will go back, in fact I might drive the 10 miles right after I finish writing this because it was sooo goood!

I would say that my husband and I are regulars at El Pulpo #2. We go there about once a week, and the food is always amazing. I like the parrillada de mariscos; it's a huge skillet full of seasoned seafood (enough for leftovers) and it's under $15! The service is always friendly and prompt. Don't be discouraged by the low-key exterior - you won't be disappointed!
