Unassuming. Casual. Friendly. And really good, quality food! Soup from scratch- NO STARTERS!! Accommodated my food allergy problems and created what I wanted. Very special! If you are near here or traveling through, try this place. If bet you'll come back again and again! Great find on my first trek to Waterloo!

We went to Waterloo recently for vacation... with the kids. This meant opportunities for a "grown-up dinner" were scant, but one night we decided we'd look through the book of local restaurants we had (we stayed in a great place we found on AirBnB) and Frederico's caught our eye. We didn't have a menu, so we looked them up online - no website. Hmmmmm. That was a bad sign, but we checked out a few of the reviews and they were all VERY complimentary - of the food, the service, the owner, the ambience, everything - so we decided I'd drive up there and order takeout based on my extensive knowledge of my wife's preferences. As soon as I walked in, I loved Frederico's. It's a small place, maybe 35-40 seat, mostly two-tops, all with white table cloths. Very unassuming, very intimate, very local. The owner has pictures of his kids (confirmation and that kind of thing) and the family posing together up on the wall, as well as picture of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. I was hooked. A young lady came over and when I told her I was ordering takeout, she ushered me to the bar and gave me a menu. They had Schlafly's beer (of course) so I ordered one up and perused the menu. They have everything you could hope for, and reasonable prices, too (almost all below $20). I ordered our dinners, sipped my beer, and took it all in. Nearly every table was a couple, with a few parents-with-one-kid thrown in, too. Everyone was chowing down and/or drinking and/or talking and enjoying themselves. While I was waiting, the owner came out and worked the room. It seemed to be mostly locals in the place, but I can't be sure. I certainly didn't feel unwelcome or get any bad vibes at all. The owner was genuine but quick, making time to say "Hi" - including me - before heading back to the kitchen. It was perfect. So was our dinner. If you're in the area, there is absolutely no way you can skip Frederico's. If you like italian food, this place is excellent. If you like simple, "old school", family friendly, local places, Frederico's is a must. I'd go back for sure.

A true story about Frederico's: I walked into the restaurant for lunch. There were no other patrons. "Are you closed?" I asked. The owner -- a wonderful man from Albania -- said, "Yes, we're closed on Mondays, but what would you like?" I told him I didn't want to cause him trouble, that I'd gladly come back tomorrow. But he insisted. "You drove all the way out here and you probably have a limited amount of time for lunch. I would be pleased to serve you." He insisted I sit down and allow him to prepare me a meal. He even gave me a free soda while I waited. This is the kind of service you get at Fredericos. It's why I go back again and again. The food is wonderful, too. I tend to gravitate toward the penne for dinner and the gyro for lunch. But the staff is top notch.

Great food great service and reasonable prices. The food was delivered at casual pace never had to wait for the next course. We had a peaceful sit down dinner after a very stressful day.

An unexpected surprise. Very good food. Very good service. I had the Pasta All'Arabiata and the cauliflower and spinach soup. My companion had the Chicken Parmiagiana, a salad and Spumoni, and a drink. $22.58! I'll gladly go back.

Salad is perfect, too bad I didn't stop there. The main course was rich and yummy. Left overs were enjoyed the next day. Can't wait to go again!.
