Quick and Good The menu is not elaborate, but everything they offer is very good. The staff is very nice and strive to remember you we have been several times and look forward to returning. The building is like some old Fast food joint, so it's not big or fancy. They focus on the food and service instead. Go, the food, service, and reasonable prices will bring you back.

It's El Potro.. It's not the best Mexican, but it's the available Mexican, for Troy. With that said, we come back on our way to soccer all the time. The prices are very reasonable, and the service is fantastic.. Chips and salsa are alright, should probably be a little thicker on the salsa, but different tastes for different regions in Mexico, so I get it. We'll keep on heading here as a quick stop for food before soccer practice.

Friendly staff, average pricing, good food, and tasty margaritas keep us coming back. The tamales are some of the best I've had. Smothered in the cheese sauce with sour cream and salad mix, it was heaven when the mexican craving hit hard. I do remember their rice and beans not being that great, so I just skipped on them this time. The chips were thicker than I like but they were still good. And, the salsa had fresh cilantro in it which is a step up from most. It's good for a quick fix in Troy.

By far the best Mexican food in this area since I have moved back here from Texas.

I believe the name means "The Colt," though the staff had better keep the place clean, or the name will quickly morph into something less flattering simply by changing a letter or two. I'm going easy on them for several reasons: 5.) It's relatively new, having opened in April, 4.) The construction traffic at the nearby I-55 interchange must be negatively impacting their accessibility and visibility, 3.) Today's dishes, shrimp enchiladas and chicken nachos, were presented well and tasted good, 2.) The server was more respectful and friendly than almost anyone else I met on this hottest day of the year, and 1.) The guacamole was fresh, chunky, and full of cilantro.

This place seems in need of a Mexican cook. I have been there several times and everything I have ordered was bland and didn't really have any flavor. Usually Mexican food has some spice and great flavor but I don't think they even salt and pepper their meat. The salsa tastes like straight tomato juice and even after dumping more than a normal amount of hot sauce that's on the table its still below average. I would say that the staff is friendly but that's about it. I was really hoping this place would be a better place to eat at since the town is pretty small.

Chile relleno and Chile poblano are excellent. Also tried Chicken Cancun....yummy! Only gave 4 stars because the seats for the booths are not very comfortable but the food I have tried is delicious! Also the Sangria Margueritas are great!

Very Friendly staff. Cuisine was good. They will make it spicier if you request it! Would spruce up the décor if I ran the place. But, food was good. Pricing is reasonable.

The food seemed bland. The one waiter was nice but part of my meal, the refried beans were missing and they did not taste that good to me compared to other places I have eaten with same menu. I was the only customer there for about thirty minutes and only two other folks came in after I was served. The price was not bad but I think I will not return. Plenty of parking. No television. Seemed clean but I did not check out the rest room.

Bland, and the fish tacos were made with crumbled up fish sticks. Good queso dip though

El Potro is Troy's newest Mexican restaurant. The place seems brighter inside than other Mexican restaurants in the area. The service was excellent as the wait staff were very friendly and attentive. The food was just ok. It was a little too bland for me. It was nothing to write home about. I hope they can improve their flavors and flourish in Troy.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
